This is a sweet spot in an old building in downtown Shelton. If you want a fancy building this is not the place. If you want kind service and a positive environment then this IS your spot. We came in early on a Sunday and Tim greeted us and took our order. He also cooked our delicious breakfast. My omelette was cooked perfectly and my husband's breakfast quesadilla was giant. It's a two meal breakfast for sure. There was nice chatter about the restaurant and you can see that these people are in to helping others. If you want an excellent American Cafe breakfast straight out of the 70's, come here. Huge pancakes. Generous portions of everything else. And lots of bacon treats for your hound. Shhhh, they even let me bring in my medium small Aussie. The staff was super friendly and went out of their way to make sure you have everything you want/need. This is a hole in the wall affair, so just park on the same block and search for it. The only reason this place didn't get a full 5 stars is that it looks like it hasn't been cleaned for a while. We went here because it had great reviews compared to surrounding restaurants, but I'm not sure why. We were informed that our food was "being cooked in old bacon grease for good flavor, so don't be scared when it comes out dark". Turns out that was an excuse for the food they were about to bring us, which tasted like straight rancid oil. The ambiance was incredibly uncomfortable. The chef was not wearing a hairnet despite his incredibly long and unsecured hair, he also didn't wear gloves a single time, and they aren't shy about using Great Value condiments. The owner is very friendly. The guy who served us was a bit dry, but good. The ambience was that of an old small café with most of the seats being at the counter. It's the "Big Guy" that gets Nita's 5 stars. Best breakfast burrito I have ever had and I spent decades living in California With some of the best Mexican food you can find. I enjoyed having breakfast at Nita's. I liked the eclectic atmosphere , for example the coffee cups are not the standard restaurant issue coffee cups. They are ones you would get if you had breakfast at a friend's house. (Which I enjoyed) ... Mine had flowers and my wife's cup had an ad for a local business. I had biscuits and gravy and my wife had an omelet. Both were good. The service was great and everyone was friendly. If you only like the standard cookie cutter restaurants you may not like it here. Absolute hidden gem of a restaurant with an nondescript appearance but amazing service and food for an unbeatable price. The small restaurant isn't very glamorous and looks like it largely hasn't been updated since it's glory days of the 60's, complete with vintage milkshake and ice cream machines as well as a vintage diner bar with original stools, but it has the old school charm of a family run business that has been doing the same thing for decades. The food is basic, although their menu does have some vegetarian and keto options available, but it is all executed extremely well and you can tell it has heart. The prices are unbelievable too in todays current market, with a standard breakfast plate or burrito running you $10, a cup of coffee $2, and my personal favorite here, the breakfast sandwich "Daybreak", is only $5! It's literally cheaper than the Safeway Deli for a sandwich twice as big. The service is great as well, George is an amazing person who has so quickly become one of our favorite people to go see in town. Absolutely don't be turned away by the appearance of this place, it's an amazing restaurant for a great breakfast that won't break the bank and is better quality than the other breakfast places in town. read more

As always - one must review with reasonable expectations. I stopped in and ordered a breakfast plate... 2 eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, and toast. It was all very good. In fact I was very impressed on my eggs. I asked for over medium... which I have always understood to be a runny yolk and solid white. Apparently, this is a challenging way to cook eggs because I never - maybe 1 out of 10 - get the egg this way. The white remains runny or the yolk ends up more cooked. But these guys nailed it. As you can see from the pic, included with the review, they must have checked it, but I'm good with that because it means they actually care enough to make sure I got what I ordered. I would have loved the food to be hotter in temp, but that was a minor thing overall. Great service... it nice being greeted and it seeming sincere. They took care of my drink order right away and were helpful in answering some of the questions I had about their menu. I would gladly recommend this place and I will be back. read more

Like a step back to 1962. I almost expected Rod Serling to come forward with a monologue talking about stepping back to a more simple time and place with honest, hard working people. A small town diner with a very old school wait staff. Mostly all counter seats but, for large groups of 2 or 3, a few tables in the back. The food was well prepared, but with out a lot of frills. My spousal unit had a piece of salmon for lunch that was a generous portion with fries and all done just right. I had my usual check out the diner lunch: grilled cheese and fries. Done well, simply and not greasy. The fixtures in this place look like 1962, the year Nita's opened. Oh, the chrome!! Not "cute" but real. All were polished, clean and still functioning to serve their menu. There was a Hamilton Beach twin screw milk shake mixer that still makes shakes from hand scooped ice cream (not some semi liquid gunk). Pies have always been a specialty of Nita's and there were three or four on the specials board For that large chunk of salmon and my grilled cheese, we paid $18 (the salmon plate was only $9.95, of which you'd easily pay twice that in Olympia). As far as small town, classic breakfast/lunch counters go, this is a 5. However, limited hours and the fact they don't take any plastic (I guess consistent with stepping into 1962), a star is deducted. read more

Well, I really wanted to like this place. The reviews were so good..... maybe there is not much in Shelton to talk about??? This was disappointing to say the least. I like to support struggling businesses especially Mom 'n Pop joints but they need to step up the cleanliness a bit. The floors were filthy and the one seater bathroom needed a good going over! My heart went out to the two adults working their buts off because the young girl who was the waitress (must have been a family member) really didn't want to work. No family pride or interest shown here. She should have been strengthening chairs and vacuuming after scuffling over with our food and sitting back down to fiddle on her phone. They were polite and quite friendly, and our burger, fries and salad fresh and edible. Sorry to say that that is all good I can say about this place. We stepped in at lunch time and they were out of iced tea???? When I sit down in a place and all I can think about is cleaning there is something wrong there. Still a great place to eat and I've been going there since I was a child. It's still cozy and relaxed and they put out home style great food as always. If you haven't been there do yourself a favor and try it. If it's been awhile since you've been there you won't be disapointed. It's still one of my favorites and it's also like taking a step back in time. We got more than enough to eat for a darn good price. Nita officially retired and sold the business about 3 months ago to a regular that kept the original atmosphere and menu( pies are still there!) so you can all heave a sigh of relief! Took a little side trip through Shelton on our way to Ocean Shores and stopped in Nita's for breakfast based on their 4.5 rating. The prices were extremely reasonable, the food was very basic but the coffee was really not good. Super cute family owned business, overflowing with history. The decor of the restaurant does a good job of showing off the history of the town. I've always been greeted with friendly faces and good conversation. The food is amazing and definitely tastes like a home cooked meal. I find myself craving a daybreak (their version of a breakfast sandwich) at least once a week. The menu is very easily modified to fit dietary restrictions and they even offer keto menu items. Um......barf. I'm trying to recall a more horrible food experience than this place but I'm drawing a blank. Cheeseburger sucked, worst ever. Potato salad, yuck. Cole slaw, nope. Crab sandwich, garbage. Fried Oysters, worst I've ever eaten (tried to eat) in my entire life. French Fries, terrible. This horrid experience started with 2 half full glasses of ice water, well, one had ice, the other had 2 almost melted pieces of ice. The "Nita's special burger" is that indeed, a special place in hell exists for this incident called a cheeseburger. The burger didn't taste like anything that resembled a burger, nasty sweet relish, and the texture of the burger was closer to a unseasoned failed meatloaf. The fried oysters were the WORST. They were dark gray, flat, tasted nothing like an oyster, and the batter was unseasoned flour then pan fried to a gooped up caked on mess with some nice black burnt bits stuck to the bottom on all 4 of them. I'd eat the ass end out of a dead Rhino and ask for seconds before going here again. We didn't finish anything, even half of anything that we ordered. Pure filth. The only question I'm left pondering is should I get prepared for a night in and take some anti diarrhea pills or let my body purge itself of all that is Nita's? On top of the worst food I've ever paid for, this place is a dump. Napkins stuck on the floor, rickety ass furniture, and thrift shop decor. I should have known when the girl behind the counter gave us that Walking Dead look, you know the look, the look that indicates something sinister is going on in the back, don't eat here, run, run as fast as you can. Lesson learned, I will NEVER EVER subject myself, or anyone else, to this dumpster dive. Oh ya, that awesome looking burger and fries that is in someone else's review no longer resides at this shitpit. LOVE LOVE LOVE this place!! I moved to Texas in the early 70's but still get to go back occasionally to visit. I get such a feeling of joy when I see that Nita's is still cooking away. The food is ALWAYS just as good as I remember. Don't try to compare this to some gourmet restaurant. This is just good ol' home cooking at great price. Yesterday, after riding on the Vance Creek Rail Riders, we went into Shelton looking for an authentic small-town place to have lunch. When we walked into the very small Nita's Cafe, the owner who was sitting outside, told us, "welcome to 1952." That really was the vibe from the barstools to the formica countertops and tables. The cook however was straight out of 1968 with his tie-dye shirt and overall aged hippy appearance. I liked that he could just talk to us from the kitchen and ask how we wanted things. Did I mention that this place is very small? The owner's young daughter also helped serve us and made my son one of the best milkshakes he's every had. I had a cheeseburger which was perfectly cooked. No frills, just a solid all American burger with lettuce, tomato, onion and a side of fries. My wife had a ham and cheese sandwich which she also enjoyed. My son had a chicken parmesan sandwich with the afore mentioned shake. The owner talked with us for much of the lunch. He was an interesting guy, having come from Harlem, New York, but now a long-time resident of Shelton. We thoroughly enjoyed interacting with him. Our lunch experience could not have been better and I think we will eat at this place every time we come through Shelton. read more
