Fish n Chips; tater tot's; coleslaw

I visited here last weekend on a weekend getaway up at Lake Cushman in a group of seven. This place was recommended by a local and did not disappoint! You're not going to get anything fancy in a place like this, but the food was great, and the food came out quickly! My fish n chips blew me away and the samples I tried on other plates were very good too, particularly the clam chowder. The service wasn't the best, but the food more than made up for it. Would definitely come here again.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]A nice and simple diner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The addition of seafood, like oysters and crab, makes for a unique take on breakfast.

    So much crab!!!

My son and I stopped here after we went to the annual Fresh Alaskan Halibut and seafood sale at Fresh Market. I had searched for good breakfast In Hoodsport and The Tides MORE than lived up to our expectations! The Crab Benedict was AMAZING, huge clumps of fresh dungenuss crab and poached eggs cooked perfectly. Right after I took the pic my son spilled a full glass of ice water on it - yikes! But they brought me a new one, no problem. Service and food both top notch-definitely worth the 40 min drive even without the seafood sale!

All the food was made from scratch. Fresh fried oysters were the best fried oysters I've ever had! So very fresh, & juicy meat. The clam chowder was so perfect; the consistency, taste, freshness, potatoes and diced clams were all excellent. The Big Foot Breakfast was hearty! The hand graded hash browns, sausage links, and over medium eggs being the shining star of the plate. The Swiss cheese omelette was good with fresh eggs and lots of cheese. The French Toast was made with Texas toast bread cooked to perfect. Not served with powdered sugar, a plus for me! The service was great, very prompt and caring people. Our server just got out of the Marines and was a pleasure. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dining room was a typical small town diner. Stools at the diner and comfortable table seating with armed wooden dining chairs where we sat.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There have been many places we want to leave reviews for, but felt compelled to get this one written while still in the parking lot.

Hard biscuit and even left note on back of receipt. Gave receipt to staff and told her there was a complaint the back. No response

Went on Tuesday 6/23/26 and ordered blueberry pancakes which cost extra. Only half the pancake had blueberries. Very disappointed tried one more time on 6/24/26 for breakfast. I ordered one biscuit with sausage gravy. Biscuits were hard like yesterday's left out overnight and the gravy couldnt even soften it and gravy tasted bland.

On our last day, we came here for brunch! It's a VERY POPULAR spot and they don't take reservations so it's a first come/first serve. When we got there, we were told to wait 30 mins so the staff (assuming he is one of the owners) took my number and would call. We went outside to wait and that same guy, came out and said we had a choice of a table or the bar! If we are at the bar, we wouldn't have to wait bc the table still needed to be cleaned etc so we went for the bar. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Diner feel of a restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food is EXCELLENT! I got the oyster browns (fried oysters) with hashbrowns and sunny side eggs (obviously they ask how you'd like your eggs!) BF got the corn beef hash! We had split their French toast and man, that marionberry sauce and the French toast overall, was not too sweet! I was about to get the stuffed French toast but was told it was more like dessert. Wow, we'd definitely be back!

    Gravy and biscuit!
    Rayven J.

Came in and they sat me down immediately and the wait time for food wasn't bad at all considering it all came out fresh and very hot. The food is definitely good I do recommend especially the fried oysters and the gravy and biscuits (actually has meat for once lol). Only down side for me was the customer service, wasn't the most friendly with me. But I am a 23 year old alternative chick with a lotta face metal in a more elderly environment. So I'd say I'm biased in that regard anyways.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The little restaurant had a nice family owned vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The server we had was very sweet, she said it was her first day and she did great! The manager (I think) was less than pleasant and should take notes from her newbie server on how to treat guests. Food was good. Biscuits and gravy had a ton of flavor! If you like fennel you'll like these. Stuffed hashbrowns were good but nothing special. We were confused as to what the side pancake was supposed to be.. came out on the plate as a big blob. Hashbrowns and eggs were good! Bacon and sausage cooked well.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Great food with seasonal specials, good service and friendly atmosphere![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The Tides has a solid menu with tons of variety for breakfast, lunch and supper. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Winter hours are in effect as it slows down quite a bit during the colder months.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Support these local folks by dining at The Tides!

A total dive kind of place! Everything was deep fried and saturated in grease. The Shrimp wasn't breaded and fried, just deep fried. The fries were extremely limp and greasy. The fish dripped grease! But the water was good.

    Oysters and eggs

Breakfast this time was a success! I had Oysters and Eggs, which was 5 fried oysters-yummy!-and perfect poached eggs with hashbrowns. I made the mistake of subbing a biscuit for toast and the biscuit was inedible. Dry, white and gummy, not a biscuit at all. But i was full anyway. Husband had hashbrowns with bacon and veggies mixed in, topped with 3 fried oysters, and scrambled eggs. He liked all, but wondered why he got 3 oysters and i got 5!

Great food and service. Offers all day breakfast was a fantastic meal - best meal since being in the road - left home Friday, it's Tuesday! The beef barley soup was amazing and grilled check sandwich tasty!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Wonderful diner,![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

My wife had the burger which was decent, and I had the rockfish bowl which came with smoked rockfish (delicious) complemented by kale, sweet potatoes, fluffy eggs, chives, and more. Healthy and good. What I love about the menu items here is that they offer very nutrient dense foods. I love their use of colors and vegetables in their dishes. Ambiance is a casual setting. You go to the counter and order food, pick up a bucket with a number on it, and they bring it to you. You find a seat outside by the water or in the restaurant. Instead of informing me she wasn't able to she instead decided to become aggressive towards the sweet cashier helping me out (older lady). She was using an unacceptable tone towards us and her coworker who simply asked her a question on our behalf. Don't care if she is a manager or an owner. You never treat your customers like this or your fellow coworkers like this. She needs to get her attitude and anger checked because she caused a very uncomfortable situation for literally no reason. The older cashier even apologized to us for the other lady's outburst. That women had no business being in any form of hospitality service. Terrible experience ordering and it ruined any good service and food that came after. This kind of service makes people NOT want to return despite any other positives.

I recently learned today that all businesses that have these Christmas trees, will donate them to a needy family that reside in our lovely Hoodsport community. Isn't that absolutely wonderful? We ordered a BLT subbed sweet potato fries and an 8 piece fried chicken and Jo's with macaroni salad for a side. We placed today's order to go and Kathy was very friendly and attentive. Being that it is Monday night football with the Eagles at Chargers, the place picked up business. The lively chatter was welcoming. A stark contrast to the quiet gift my Hoodsport neighborhood up the mountain offers every single day. I met the owner Eric, and Val who went straight to work in the grill area pumping out food. My husband liked his fried chicken , Jo's & macaroni salad. I asked him if money was not a concern, which chicken would he prefer, the Market or Model T? He quickly replied "without a doubt Model T!" It's pressure cooked to order and so juicy!" I had a taste of the Mac salad and it was delicious. One of the best macaroni salads I've tried. I enjoyed the BLT and the sweet potato fries. We did order a $9.99 bowl of the brisket barley soup. It was hearty, full of barley. I would prefer if it had more meat though. There were only tiny bits of meat in the to go container that had me questioning if it was a cup instead of the bowl I ordered. We have leftovers which is nice. And next time, I believe I'll order the taco salad. Val had just made one and its presentation was on point.
