But after learning to pace myself a bit more and using more of my legs and hips, got the hang of it and enjoyed both the technical skills and aerobic workout. Boxing is both intuitive and counterintuitive to me. Shannon (great instructor) explained how clenching your fists or having tension in your arms counterintuitively leads to weaker punches. And that relaxing the arms up until the moment of impact is the most effective way to punch. It feels very unnatural, until it isn't. The legwork also feels counter-intuitve initially and then it starts to make sense (ex jab as your lead foot steps forward, cross off your back foot) Good mix of both men and women, beginners and intermediates. You'll get a sweaty intense workout (if you choose to go all in), and then off-ramped by some light core work and a cooldown stretch. Pro tip: come early if it's your first time. They recommend half an hour before class. They'll help you tape up your hands, pick the right sized gloves, and show you the basics.

The workouts are seriously amazing -- combining authentic boxing technique with full-body conditioning that keeps every class exciting and empowering. Huge shoutout to Mannie, Sara, and Gio -- these coaches are simply exceptional. They bring so much energy, expertise, and encouragement every single session. Whether it's a high-intensity group class or a focused 1-on-1 session, they tailor the training to your level and help you improve with technique, motivation, and constant positive support. Their passion for coaching and genuine care for members is what makes this place truly stand out. Every time I leave class I feel stronger, more confident, and inspired to show up again. If you want a fun, challenging, and incredibly supportive boxing community, this is hands-down the place to be!

That wasn't until he got a demand letter and then suddenly she could use it. We never attended a single class other than the trial. He actually went so far as to hire an attorney rather than just do the right thing and refund me my money since he lost nothing he lost nothing and somehow someway after getting multiple extensions from the courts, they cited with him, not even allowing me to present my evidence for my case when I'm the one who filed and paid for the small claims trial. Apparently, the magistrate thinks since the nonprofit handles the payments, I didn't lose out on $890 plus the $50 filing fee plus the money I spent to send him the demand letters He walked out of there like a little kid and a candy store how pathetic! I waited and told him wow you look so proud of yourself stealing from a young woman and her children when you lost nothing. Your own invoice states no refunds in the event the student stops attending classes before the six month timeframe elapses, funny thing is we never attended a single class other than the free trial! I never signed a contract. I never got any paperwork from him. I cannot believe what an utter scumbag this guy is, are you that hard up Gabriel must not be since you hired a lawyer instead of just being a decent human being and refunding me my money That's OK cause karma is a real biatch and you're gonna meet her real soon What goes around comes around and I don't like to wish bad on anyone, but this guy deserves everything he has coming to him Big tough guy MMA fighter with mush for a brain So disgusted, so disappointed in the entire system that people like him get away with robbing the most vulnerable Please don't bring your kids to this guy and trust him with them, do not give him a dime without making sure you have everything in order if you are going to bring your children to him People lick his butt because they think what he's like a rockstar or something? I should've walked out of there the first day when he completely ignored me and then for payment, he gave me a business card and had me take a screenshot of his pricing Never signed a paper never got a contract never attended a class but he thinks he's entitled to keep $890 of mine Absolutely pathetic, if I could give him zero stars, that's what he would be getting this guy is just the worst. I'm actually going to reach out to the new station and see if they want to do a story on him. I'm also going to be looking into other avenues, such as filing a complaint with the city and the Better Business Bureau and anybody else I can.

The instructors motivate you to feel strong and empowered, and the front desk staff are always great and make it a point to remember you. Of course, the workout is insanely good, no question about it--you will sweat a lot, push yourself, and probably smile because it's super fun. Also, the playlists?! Incredible. So far I've taken classes with Brooke, Will, and Brian, and they are all amazing. Take the intro class if you're new, and it'll definitely help you get a sense of what's coming. But if you can't, the moves also appear on screens around the room and the instructors do an excellent job guiding you through each section. What I really love about UBG is that they welcome people of all backgrounds, abilities, and identities, and you'll see that reflected in their group classes. I can't speak highly enough about this awesome boxing gym. Thanks for helping me see improvements in my mental and physical health already!

I only visited once, so I normally would not leave a gym review based on a single visit. However,…read moresomething about this place felt off enough that I think it is worth mentioning. This is, for the most part, an unstaffed gym. I genuinely do not understand the business model/ value proposition. This is a 24-hour facility for members, but the space is extremely small, about the size of a one-bedroom apartment. There is only one bathroom, no shower, and no changing room, yet the membership costs over $200 per month. The workout itself is self-guided kickboxing, with about 8 to 9 stations and monitors telling you what to do. You work out on your own, so it could be just you in the entire gym, or you may end up sharing the space with another member(s) and rotating through the stations together. From what I understood, staff are NOT on site for most of those 24 hours (cost reduction). Trainers are only present during very limited windows, and if you happen to come during those times, they may help with your form. What does not seem well thought out is the overall setup: a 24-hour facility with no staff and no security on site for most of the time. *** I do not think they thought through the safety aspect of this setup. I would definitely not feel comfortable or safe using this facility during unstaffed hours. Unstaffed gyms raise several safety concerns: unauthorized access/tailgating, personal safety risks including harassment or assault, and the lack of immediate response in a medical emergency. At that price, I would expect not only better amenities and greater exercise variety, but also a much stronger sense of safety, supervision, and overall value. This basically feels like a small apartment gym with a few specialized kickboxing stations and no security on site for over $200/month.

From day one, I felt at home. Francisco did my assessment and set the tone with a thoughtful, personalized approach. Corey, the owner, is so down-to-earth and even jumps in on classes. I've also trained with Jamie, Billy, and Damian, and every single coach brings both expertise and energy. They actually watch your form, coach you through adjustments, and push you in the right ways. What sets FL apart is their model: semi-private sessions (10 clients, 2 coaches), which means you get personalized attention without losing the motivation of a group atmosphere. The programming is smart--focused on movement quality, strength, and conditioning that translate into real-life performance. As someone training for Hyrox, this has been a game changer. The community here is just as strong as the workouts. People cheer each other on, and it truly feels like a team environment. Palo Alto, you're lucky to have this spot--I can't recommend it enough.

A nice acquaintance introduced me to this gym and I will admit that I was a bit intimidated. I've never really felt "at home" in a gym or workout place. But everyone was so nice and encouraging and from the first meeting this place showed me that it was really something else. We have officially been part of this community for three years now and I've never felt judged or diminished, rather appreciated and encouraged. Also, the community is so diverse, as are the coaches- who are seriously ALL amazing. It makes such a difference to see a range of bodies, ages, to hear from Celia Cruz to Chicago to M83. And they have such patience with my clambering children and even pups. I think seeing their mom lift heavy weights helps them see themselves as able and strong as well. My life is so much healthier and happier having this place to make me stronger and less stressed. I really do see this as one of the best investments I am doing in myself and well being for the long term. So! If you are local and are hoping to find a place to workout, that will take you as you are and just encourage you and push you to reach a stronger, healthier chapter of you you should check them out.
