Nixon Home Improvement completed a job for my new home located in (Broward County) Parkland, Florida, USA They installed two whirlpool tubs in two separate bathrooms. Plus needed to replace the surrounding tile with Nixon's Home Improvement help and a tile designer on selecting a good quality tile Nixon's Team picked up and installed the bathroom tile work. My job had several different stages and phases with patience and open communication things went exceptionally well. Plus his painter painted four bedrooms in one day. He was neat, clean and efficient plus they helped me choose the paint colour and quality. Paiting around a closet fixture was a huge concern and his painter made the job seamless. Regarding payment we paid a deposit then the next amount was requested and paid and balance paid following completion and walk through that closed things out. Very talented team that showed up when promised as I had demolition crew that prepares the job, then clean up then plumber then electrician then tile expert. While painting was completed first as scheduled in four bedrooms. I sent a text or called Contractor he responded back in a reasonable timeframe and remained professional at all times. Avoid Nixon Home Improvement, the owner Nixon Lajoie is so unprofessional, he will promise you everything and anything at very affordable cost, and later he will deliver less than half of what you already paid him to start wit. I contracted Nixon last July 2022, today January 19, 2023. I already paid him 72% of total cost and has not finikshed my kitchen, not even half. Now Nixon does not answer my calls, does not answer my texts. His business is not accreddited with Better Business Bureau, he has more than a dozen complains there and he doesnt care. Nixon is a serial liar. If you contract this business you have 90% chances that you will regret it and loose most of your money. He demolished my kitchen immediately, send me the wrong cabinets that did not fit, he still owes me 3 cabinets and the quartz countertop. Stay aware from this guy! He was horrible. We had a covered patio torn down and rebuilt in the same spot. Nixon never came to check on the completion of any subcontractors and told me 'if it looks good to you, just pay him'. How do I know if it is done correctly? Thats why I hired a contractor! As a result, work was done half assed and three times longer than I was told. In the end, Nixon never completed the work. The work that was done had to be redone on multiple occasions. The roof leaked after the first run and Nixon actually told me the 'warranty was up'...after 2 weeks!? I continued to call Nixon to repair the roof. On the rare occasion I could get him on the phone, he would say that he's going to fix it, the roofer did bad work and it's not his fault, he will pay for a different roofer to do the job properly, he's coming right over or he'll be over later today, etc..ALL LIES. He never once returned. He never had anyone else come and he never refunded a penny. This was a $25,000 job and yet I spent last weekend and the weekend before that fixing the structure again by myself. Warranty? Good luck! He will tell you that he's super religious and he doesn't work on Sundays because thats his day for God. Meanwhile he is a total thief. One star is too good for him. Nixon Lajoie aka Nixon Home Improvement was paid 9000.00 (half) in April 2022 to build a lanai. The process was so messy with him regarding submitting paperwork to the City of BB just to get the permits. I repeatedly had to call the City to find out what the status was after going back and forth with him on why he wasn't getting this right. In June..AFTER he bounced a check for the permits with the city, I told him no more. Give us our money back. On 8/10 he gave us 5 money orders for 1000.00 each and promised the 4000.00 in a week. He has come up with every excuse as to why he cannot pay...got into an accident, waiting for a check from his suppliers etc... I asked him how does he operate a business if he doesn't have cash flow. As with another unsatisfied customer, he cashed my checks at a check cashing store. I don't even think he has a business checking account. (he did ask me to make one check for 8000.00 out to NIXON and not the business. I said no, I made out to the biz but he still was able to cash at the ck cashing store) I believe he is a fraud and I am so sorry we believed his line of BS when he came to our house twice. I had a positive experience with Nixon Home Improvement. Nixon was always available for any call or text. He was fair priced and his workers were always on time and completed good work. I had 1100 sq ft of flooring removed, new tile Installed, and new baseboards installed. My only negative is that I had to provide thinset, grout and leveling spacers. Nixon and his team has continued to impress me over the course of the last three years. First, he and his team completed a build out on my home that turned into a beautiful home office. Nixon Home Improvement installed 200 sq ft of tile in our sloped Verandah. Nixon had the tile work start on the date he said he would. There was one minor hiccup. One of the installers did not show up after lunch. Nixon promptly had another installer in the afternoon to survey the work to be done. The next morning at 8 am the work continued. Both installers were experienced and diligently and professionally installed the tile. After inspection of the completed work, I noticed that the grout color in a separate area did not match the existing grout. He promised that the grout would be replaced the following working day. He gives a one year guarantee for the performed work. I can recommend that this firm did what they said they would do promptly and efficiently. read more

I don't like writing bad reviews about small companies but this experience really annoyed me. We hired Nixon to do some painting and crown molding for us. His pricing wasn't drastically cheaper, but spoke to him a couple of times, seemed very polite, so wanted to give him a chance. They advertise to be general contractors and thought it would be great if we had a reliable one to have around to do misc projects around our new home. Did a very decent job with the painting. However the crown molding was left unfinished. Although all the boards made it up, half upon inspection were left uncaulked or unsanded. They sloppily put up molding in the bedroom that they never came back to fix although we called Nixon multiple times and he promised to return. That's even after telling him we had more jobs we'd like him to quote. Guess he doesn't need the business. Didn't get any pressure like the previous reviewer to complete payment before the project was done - which I wouldn't have done anyway. But there were frequent misunderstandings in communication and what we were actually paying for. Contract loosely written, which I'm a stickler for. In the end, the project ended up costing hundreds more than expected because of additions he claims weren't included in the contract although we clearly discussed them prior. When I let him know that it wasn't his property, he promised to return it, then let his contractors use and abuse it and never returned it nor replaced it. Also, NEVER give him all money up front. One of his contractors cut electricity to our whole bedroom while expanding a closet. He did eventually pay to have an electrician come and repair the power loss (after 2 months), but electrician had to remove brand new baseboards Nixon had installed and Nixon would not send a contractor out to repair/replace the removed baseboards. They are just leaning against the wall unsecured. He doesn't measure. Just guesses at square footage. Had me order double amount needed for wood floors. When I called him on it and told him he would have to pay for excessive wood flooring, he said I must have had it wrong. Fortunately, I had note he had written showing his handwriting and how many square feet I was to order. Finally, two of his contractors were happily setting up their sawhorses in my living room to cut floors for bedroom. I would have had sawdust everywhere! I had them move outside with saws. He does not check in and supervise his subcontractors. He gave me 3 references whom I called and got good reports from. They must have been his only 3! I tried to do my research and make a good decision in hiring a contractor, but sadly this contractor did not stand up to his promises. read more

Nixon is a classic swindler type of contractor. He does all the typical scams that worst "contractors" do. At the beginning he promises the best renovation for a low price. Then he hires cheap unprofessional subcontractors and they do a terrible job. If you complain he fixes some minor issues, but he doesn't fix any major ones. For example, the tile in the whole house was installed incorrectly, the spacing between tiles is not consistent, grout is coming out, and he says it's impossible to fix. But the worst comes at the end of the project. As soon as he gets 80% of the money he disappears, doesn't answer the phone and stops paying to subcontractors. Needless to say that there's no schedule or any type of time frame that he keeps. The two week project becomes two month, then three, then... after 6 month you find yourself in the middle of the project without a contractor and with subcontractors who don't want to finish without pay. So I ended up paying subcontractors for at least 30% of the job to finish the project. read more

We worked with Nixon on a few smaller projects, with some level of success. Slow and sloppy, but he seemed like a nice guy and seemed to come through in the end. Then we decided to use him for a large project. HUGE MISTAKE! Our final project was never started, although he was quick to take 30% down. He took the money and ran, never submitting paperwork to the City (Boca) for Permits, yet blaming the city for the delays. In March 2020 we paid him the first draw, for architect work. HORRIBLE architect. Back and forth numerous times, completely unusable end result. However, enough for permits. Then we paid him 30% in April 2020 (check cashed April 17, 2020). We followed up every few weeks for progress status. He said he was working with the city on the permits, and they were slow due to COVID. It sounded reasonable, but the months kept rolling by. In November 2020 I called the city and the Permit had been withdrawn by the city back in Sept due to the GC not submitting any of the required paperwork. We fired him immediately, and have been unable to get our money back. Initially he seemed willing to give us some back, even wrote us a check to 'hold' until the end of Dec. When I went to cash it, it was a bogus check. Made out for $4000, but written as Four dollars. The bank would not cash. We've still been trying to get some of our money back. Nixon took a deposit from me in January 2021. I was going to have some work done in my bathroom. but due to a family illness I was unable to start the project and asked Nixon if he could return my deposit. He stated that he gave it to a shower door person for a shower door that was to be part of the project. I said I understand and if that was the case they could deliver the door to me and i will hold in my garage until I can complete the project. To date i have not received the shower door or a refund of the deposit. ZERO work has been done and NOTHING has been delivered. I hired Nixon to remove popcorn, remodel a bathroom and a bedroom. I moved out of my home so his crew can do the popcorn work. He was supposed to be done with the popcorn in 7 days, we attempted to move back in after day 9 and arrived to a house that was destroyed and a bathroom and bedroom that was only demolitioned. His crew was unprofessional, unskilled and always napping on my porch during lunch. When I began inspecting the work, they destroyed the 23 recessed lights that I spent over $4000 installing 2 weeks earlier, damaged my $2000 wall mounted TV, broke my bathroom vent stack, left clumps of plaster everywhere, spray painted the ceiling instead of using rollers and in the process spray painted half my walls, curtain rod holders and floors throughout the house. I told Nixon that I would rather he not finish the job. We went over the estimate and came to an agreement that he would return $1500 and I was not going to ask for the damages so I can hire someone else. He was supposed to pay me within a week and I never heard from him and he never returned calls or texts. My attorney is now handling the matter. He is a fraud. He has no knowledge of home remodeling and has a crew of inexperienced workers who are not craftsman.
