Decided to try Blue Danube for a massage this morning and it exceeded my expectations. I've had massages at several luxury hotels and have paid triple the amount for massages that haven't been nearly as good. The location is very convenient-- lots of parking nearby. They also have great availability for last minute appointments unlike some other spas in the area. Stacy did such a wonderful job. I got an hour long Swedish massage, and the pressure was perfect the entire time. I've told technicians I like medium-hard pressure before only to have light pressure the whole time. She was very firm and thorough and got out all of the tension I've been carrying in my neck and back area. The hot stones were a nice touch. The only thing I could see improvement on is maybe a longer hand and foot massage, so I'll mention that next time. But honestly the focus on my back was much needed for this time. I'm really happy to have found this spa nearby and can't wait to come back. read more

I recommend blue Danube highly. I frequent this spa and the massages are consistently done well. The place is clean and everyone is really professional. It's on Cal Avenue so the location is conveniently near mollie stones and restaurants, in case you wanted to couple your visit with a meal or errand. The only down side is that the hourly rate is relatively expensive but there is a discounted rate as well. All in all, a reliable spot and they are branching out with new services like nails and lashes. Trust me, without naming names, there are definitely shadier places even in Palo Alto. I am in awe of how excellent each of the staff massage therapists are with soft touch therapy, hard knot hand work, and gentle yet firm back and leg massage. The owner is Chelsea and the attention to detail with the beautiful aesthetics in each room along with the lobby are a testament to her passion for excellence. The clients fascinate me! PhD students coming in the late afternoon to "chill out", recently a mother and daughter in a couples room enjoying Mother's Day together, I've seen this tall professional athlete three times that comes in for 90 minute sports massage, and twice I have seen groups of four both times getting massages before they walk down California to have a group dinner! They've started tagging on a 3% credit card processing fee on their massage now. This comes as a surprise because there's no disclosure before the massage about this fee. Not on the price list at the front desk, or anywhere else. It's a fee of less than three bucks, so the amount is tiny, however, it's the fact that it isn't disclosed before the fact that's concerning. I'm not a fan of surprises when it comes to money, unless it's a good surprise. The massage is good at a very competitive price for Palo Alto. There's nowhere else quite as affordable around here. This place is a gem. First, location is very convenient. There's plenty of street parking around and is good when you have errands to run on California street. It's a new place that recently opened so the facilities are brand new inside. I called the store and easily got a same day appointment for 1 hour massage. The owner is very kind and gave me an amazing massage.. best I've had in a while. I was having neck and shoulder problems and regularly go to Massage Envy which has recently had masseuse changes that don't apply enough pressure for my needs. The owner kneaded by neck and shoulder and back very thoroughly and also had great expertise on applying pressure in the right spots and angles. I called on Saturday to make a last minute appointment for a Swedish massage. I was greeted by a very friendly lady at the reception desk (owner maybe?). My masseuse was very professional and thoughtful with her questions about areas I wanted her to focus on. For the first 15mns, she kept asking how much pressure I liked. I said I didn't like a deep tissue massage so she was very careful to check with me quite often and explained how much she should press to release the tight muscles. I felt quite comfortable during the massage and walked out feeling so relaxed. I highly recommend this place, clean with friendly staff. Plenty of parking. Had a couple massage, he received deep tissue, i had a Swedish massage. The massage wasn't anything extraordinary. At the end when my date paid for the massage; i offered to pay for the tip. $10 for each masseuse. It was concerning to me that the owner of the spa demanded a specific tip amount $20 each. Told me to keep my $10.00. I believe tipping is an important way to show your appreciation for good service, it should never be mandatory or demanded. This kind of behavior can make customers feel uncomfortable and ultimately damage the reputation of the spa. After, the demand of $20 each i refused to pay for the manner fact of; however, my date still tipped it wasn't $ 20 each though, $15 each. However, i will not return back to the Blue Danube Spa after that experience. Its important for businesses to prioritize customer satisfaction and make sure that every guest feels valued and respected. read more

The owner is very welcoming and friendly, but I went in for an hour deep tissue massage. It was not good at all, the masseuse rubbed at my bones.. at times it felt like she was just holding me (like my feet). I even told her at one point that the way she was rubbing my bones with her elbows really hurt and asked for more pressure at certain points, but she just seemed over it and clearly seemed tired.. I really wanted it to end for most of the massage. As I walked out, the owner checked in with me and explained that she was a new hire. It's understandable, but it wasn't a cheap massage and while it annoyed me, it also just made me wonder what the masseuse is going through, I don't know. Awkward. I had a gift card from Mother's Day that I was excited to use. The girl was nice enough but the massage was not one I have experienced before during a basic Swedish massage. Let's just say I wouldn't have approved my husband receiving this massage. Anyway, I'm out ready to pay and the girl follows me out and stands there waiting for her tip. Ok cool... I'm workin on it. So I give her what I think is fair. Especially considering this awkward situation. I gave her the envelope and she speaks another language to the front desk. They refer me to a sign that tells me how much to tip. It was awkward as hell. I gave her another $10 making it the high end of a tip for that range and walked out. So weird. So awkward. I have gone here twice. The first time, I scheduled via their website for the 730PM slot but when I arrived at 7PM apparently my slot was not showing up in their system even though I got a confirmation email (which I showed them). I had to wait for an hour and a half because there were only 2 masseuses available to handle all the customers. The bathrobe in the room was also already used and was not replaced, so I had nothing to use. The redeeming factor was Lynn is very, very good, probably the best masseuse I've ever had. She knows exactly how to find and relax ALL the knots. She is also very kind and compassionate. For my second visit, which I booked solely for Lynn's expertise, again there was a lack of proper management of the schedule. When I was already on the way, they called me asking if I can go at a later time because they were very busy. I told them I was already near and cannot turn around. When I arrived, I waited for 45 minutes past my scheduled time and the spa was nearly closing. Thankfully, it was another amazing and relaxing massage by Lynn. Just want to emphasize that Lynn is topnotch but the scheduling aspect is disorganized and all over the place.
