This beauty supply appears to have everything you need! I came in looking for a particular brand of Marley hair and they actually had it! I don't think it's a brand people commonly buy so I was pleasantly surprised to see it. At the time I went, there weren't any sales associates walking around to help me find another type of hair I was looking for. There was a gentleman on the phone placing an order for additional inventory. I don't know if he's the owner or manager but once he got off the phone he was very helpful. He knew exactly what I was looking and showed that it was hidden because people will commonly try to hide it for one reason or another. There were all the things you would expect a beauty supply to have, jewelry, wigs, extensions and all of the various product brands you know and love. Unfortunately, ALL sales are final so that's the major reason for 4 versus 5 stars. So it doesn't matter if the package is unopened with the seal intact with a receipt. Once you buy, it's yours! I may do some price comparisons in the future and double check how sales tax may impact my purchases, but I'll likely be back. Remember good hair is hair that's taken care of. read more

Over priced and rude. I'm new to the area and so i was looking for a new beauty supply store to shop in. I walked in and the staff just looked at me didn't even say anything then most of the stuff is locked up and over priced. The shea moister condition i wanted was $17 at this store. Which it's normally $10-14 so I went next door to Walmart and find the same thing for $12. This store does have a lot of different things and is very big but the price just isn't right for me. read more

I came to this location at at 7pm and they were not open. There hours of operations are 9am to 8pm. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and came back the next morning at 9:45am, still not open. Please keep you hours of operations up to date. It's a real inconvenience. read more

I've been a customer of No. 1 beauty supply for a very long time, more than 10 years. In comparison to other beauty supply stores in the district and surrounding areas, their inventory is large, and the prices are reasonable. The customer service is great! The staff is always available to assist me when necessary. I have and would recommend this establishment to family and friends. Pretty run of the mill beauty supply store here, not a huge selection but it's in a nice big space and they probably have what you need if you're not looking for anything too fancy. And they must have an issue with thieves because they watch everyone like a hawk. Those Sunday hours, 10am-5pm, were a blessing (#PraiseHim) because this head truly needed saving. I went in to purchase 10 packs of Marley hair and bought a brand that was terrible in texture (Vanessa?). I didn't realize until I got them home but I quickly ran back to the store to exchange and they were fine with that as long as it was the same price per pack. Okay. The parking situation sucks now that there's not parking on Georgia Ave but there are some shady looking alley spots in the back that I didn't mind because it was broad daylight. Overcharging and Rude!!!! Came in looking for Havana hair but they only had Marley hair which was fine but not the end of the world. Man who checked me out was unfriendly and disinterested I'm assisting customers. Their hair selection was limited and $6.00 a pack when other beauty supplies only charge $5.00. I needed alot of hair and wanted to know if discount. You can say no but it's how you say it and its overpriced. I will never go there again. Best beauty supply for all of my hair care needs. Friendly and helpful staff, clean and open space. Although parking can be a pain, I usually find a spot on the main street or a side street. Today I went in for a few things and the cashier was friendly and professional. He made sure that I was informed about my items before he rang them up. Also, on my way out, I dropped a $20 bill and he along with the guy at the door stopped me to let me know I dropped the money before I got to the door. My son and I were impressed. Being that I moved here in July, I was super confused as to where to buy braiding and twisting hair. When I looked this up, I found it wasn't hard to get to. You can park in the walmart parking lot across the street and walk over. When you go in, it's super huge. They look like that offer everything and have different brands of everything. The marley/cuban twist hair I got was 5.99 and then I also got a pack of three bundles of twist hair and it was 12.99. Super affordable! read more

I went to number 1 beauty supply store on Georgia Avenue today. The people that work there are very nice. I walked in and immediately was asked do i need help. I was looking for Outre Remi Tara 2.4.6 Color 1. They had it. And it was actually cheaper than other beauty supply stores a $10 difference. I was really satisfied on the price and the store. And they also didn't follow me around like some beauty supply stores do. I would definitely go back. 5 stars read more

I came to this store because it was near my home and I was in need of some hair products. As I was shopping, no one offered me any help and I was the only customer in the store. I was in there for a good 30 minutes when the owner walked across the street to the police station, and called them to the store because he was accusing me of shop lifting and I wasn't even done shopping yet. Needless to say I kindly left the $50 worth of products I was going to buy there and walked out. While I was shopping I did notice that some of the products on the shelves seemed a little old because they smelled kinda funny. I would give this store 0 stars if it were a possibility. The customer service here is absolutely terrible. I came to purchase bomb twist hair which was priced at 3.99/pack. Once at the counter I was told that the hair could not be sold to me as someone had missed priced the hair. I explained that I needed the hair and asked if an exception could be made for the 5 packs that I had. Immediately the store owner/manager began yelling (and I do mean yelling) at me and my cousin that he would loose money selling me the hair the way it was labeled and I explained that the pricing error wasn't the fault of the customer. I stopped by because it's the closest beauty supply to me and I had a hair style I wanted to try that required extensions. It had a decent selection of hair. Coming from Chicago I'm more accustomed to warehouse style shops in that there are larger locations that carry so much more than what I've seen here. This store in particular carried the basics, I looked around at the other offerings, nothing special. Last minute and you're not trying to go far, this might be the spot. I'm still searching for a bigger beauty supply and one with less pricy hair. I don't believe Marley hair was always 5 dollars a pack, goodness that's expensive. I've gone to this beauty supply a couple times. They have a decent amount of selection. They run out of natural hair color weaves for braiding and crochet a lot. I'm surprised they don't over stock those colors (1,1B). The women are nice and they do watch you like they may have a problem with thieves but the neighborhood is sort of sketchy. If you need the basics they have and some pricier brands for natural hair in "locked cabinets" you have to request. (Shea moisture, ms Jesse's, etc.) read more

No 1 Beauty Supply/ Georgia Ave - I looked through the store for Nexus products to found none for my efforts in trying not to disturb the help since they were helping other customers and didn't seem to know what I was asking for as though they had never heard of the company Nexus. Finally the owner told the clerk to go back to the register and that he would help me. He walked as though he were looking for what I asked for and tells me to go to Safeway or Giant. I looked at him shocked and asked, "Really, you're going to send me to Safeway for Nexus products!" I didn't realize how loud I responded and it wasn't intentional but that made me hot. Did he actually think I was that stupid? If you don't want my business I don't have a problem with going to another state to keep from having to deal with the ignorance. Well, first let me start off by saying that I am an African American Woman and my experience considering I have only been to this business once, was the opposite of the only other review. When I entered the store, I was not nor did I feel like I was being cased by a bank surveillance camera. I browsed a few aisles freely and comfortably. The only thing I would surely advise them to beef up on as far as customer service goes is to reiterate to their staff to make themselves more available to customers who may need assistance. Other than that, the staff was pretty friendly and helpful once they directed their attention. Sadly to say I can understand why they may have behaved in such a manner as to make one feel as though they were being singled out due to race...It's "THIEF" and "YOUR"...If that's how you speak and spell, I could only imagine how u look, dress and carry yourself overall....I would probably follow YO every move as well, smdh!!! read more
