For $28 something I got two large delicious orders of egg foo young smothered in a deliciously savory brown gravy which each came with a pint of steamed white rice, a 2L of soda, and 3 almond cookies for $1. Ordered General's Chicken and beef and broccoli combo. The fried rice was dried out and hard (i.e. very old), the chicken tasted old too, also hard (not Crunchy as you'd expect from being fried). The egg rolls that came with the combos were decent as were the crab Rangoon we got, but like most had virtually no crab meat. We also got large bone in ribs. Desperate for Chinese food, my partner and I gave this restaurant a try. The adventure began with the woman taking our order. For the life of her, she could not get our phone number right. She must have had us repeat it 5 times before my partner finally became annoyed. A second woman then took the call and claimed the problem occurred because my partner gave them more than one phone number. What? That didn't start us out on the right foot at all. Still, we ordered for delivery. Between the two of us we ordered ham fried rice, General Tso's chicken, pot stickers, and egg rolls. Although we gave exacting directions for delivery, the delivery guy came to the wrong door. I don't know if that annoyed him, but he refused to look me in the eye for more than a second, wouldn't smile, and barely had anything to say to me. Oh, well. I love pan fried pot stickers, and no one seems to make them the same way. I thought their pot stickers were pretty bad.They are small and unevenly cooked (some were very dark) with a very doughy texture. UGH. The ham fried rice was similarly unpleasant. I don't know if any frying was done at all; it certainly was cooked all the way. The nutty texture was annoying. No. 1 Express comes as close to the perfect "take-out" place as exists on Cleveland's Eastern suburbs. Fresh vegetables and meats, good sauces, generous portions and very fair pricing. On this record-setting coldest day, I ordered 30 entries and soups for my company (creating our own Chinese buffet) and our employees LOVED the food. The food quality has dropped significantly since the beginning of the year. What normally took 15 minutes to deliver is now regularly taking over an hour. Do NOT order from this restaurant. Their obvious lack of any concern for their customer becomes shockingly apparent any time you have them on the phone. While the cheap prices and convenience of online ordering might seem appealing, the incredibly sub-par customer service and managerial handling of the situation was appalling. My group of friends and I decided to have a fun evening, and wanted to finish it off with some Chinese food. As Number One has usually been pretty okay and we knew the prices were cheap, we decided to order here. This began an entirely huge fiasco, culminating in our commitment to never order food from this restaurant again. A few of my friends were talking, and they remembered that one time, they had ordered food and, after ordering a certain amount of food, were allowed to order a free order of fried cheese sticks. We decided that they sounded good, and that we wanted to do it again. Because we ordered a different amount of food this time, we wanted to check out how many orders of fried cheese sticks we could order for free. In all, my group (which was rather large) decided that about ten orders would be awesome and would make the night even better. On the receipt, we were told explicitly that the 10 orders of fried cheese sticks would cost $0.00 We decided to call in about 45 minutes after we placed our order to check on its status and make sure that there had been no errors with its ordering. We were told the order would be there soon, and were told absolutely nothing about any additional cost. Upon the arrival of the delivery man, we were informed that not only would we not be getting ten orders of fried cheese sticks (we were offered one), but also, none of them would be free. Wanting the fried cheese sticks, we decided to sign for them. When we got back inside and got settled, the girl who put it on her card checked her bank account, and realized that the money had been pulled from her account, with the additional charge for the fried cheese sticks, before we had been told or accepted the additional charge. This is simply not okay, if you know anything about laws (IRS, 2014). Upon realizing this, we became rather upset. It wasn't so much about the fact that we didn't get the fried cheese sticks that we wanted (although we really did want them, it was understandable the they restaurant's website had made an error), but rather about the fact that their website was misleading, and we didn't want other people to make the same mistake and be disappointed. Knowing that most of their clientele are college students, we could imagine the disappointment that might happen upon expecting multiple orders of fried cheese sticks and not receiving them. We decided to call them to see what could be done to make sure it didn't happen again. Upon calling them, my friend explained the situation, and was laughed at for her being frustrated. The woman on the phone was highly condescending and ended up passing my friend on to several other people, before the call eventually "dropped" as she was waiting to be transferred to the manager. As the problem had not been addressed, we decided to call back. This time, another friend called, and we were clearly frustrated. The customer service she faced was atrocious. Throughout the phone call, she was told that the incorrect charge was her fault, that they would NOT update the website (even though they KNEW that people had problems with it), and was spoken over nearly the entire conversation. Although we repeated multiple times that we were NOT interested in a refund (the charge was pretty small, and it wasn't a big deal to us for this time), this was the only solution that was offered at any time during the nearly 30 minute phone conversation that culminated in my friend being called stupid and getting hung up on. This lack of professionalism is disgusting and shocking, and I am beyond upset. What could have been resolved through a simple conversation, and what could have saved them future trouble, ended up being an aggravating and upsetting phone call for everyone within my friend group. The fact that they refused to acknowledge that they had illegally charged the card more than we had agreed to pay before asking our permission is beyond absurd. Secondly, another inappropriate thing occurred. In order to place the order, we needed to provide a phone number, which we gladly did. After the phone "disconnected," we missed a phone call and then received a text message from what we believe to be a personal phone to the phone number we used to place the order. In entirely poor grammar, a brief explanation was given, instead of responding to our concerns. This using of personal contact information, which was assumed to be kept confidential, is simply not okay. I am highly disappointed with the service we received tonight, and I will be urging all of my friends to not order from here again. If I could give zero stars as a rating, I would. read more

When we received the order, which was charged on our credit cards, they WROTE IN an extra charge. Not typed, HAND WRITTEN, because we were "wrong." Horrible, horrible experience. Waited an hour for food when I live 10 minutes away. When I called to see the status of my food, they said the manager would call me in 5 minutes. They never called back. When the food finally arrived, all three of the meals tasted bad ( we've ordered here before and liked their food before). Additionally, the sweet and sour chicken did not come with sweet and sour sauce. When I called to tell them the food wasn't good and their was no sauce, I realized my phone number was blocked. I called with a friends phone, and finally got a manager. When I told her the issue, she said the food was good, and the only thing they could do was make another trip for the sweet and sour sauce which could take another hour since they are busy. I said that we wanted new food or reimbursement for the one really bad meal, in addition to the non existent sweet and sour sauce. The manager refused and said they were too busy to help me and hung up. I would give it a negative rating if possible.
