Unfortunately, this place really let me down. I left my dogs here feeling very positive about the place, even if it was in a very odd location. My dogs seem fine and were probably well cared for. When I picked them up, however, the owner greeted me with "I need to have a talk with you" in a confrontational and, quite frankly, rude tone of voice. She accused me of not telling her enough about my dogs. Actually, at first she accused me of one of my dogs not being potty-trained (which he is), but then it was that I didn't tell her that one of my dogs can occasionally chew things. He chewed up a yoga mat they usually board at other places with that he'd never chewed before, and this made them angry because he got diarrhea. UPDATE: He got diarrhea because he picked up whip worm from their facility. He was all clear when I had him at the vet two weeks prior. I don't know why she seemed so upset about it (she never said why), but the worst part was, several minutes into being negatively lectured by the owner, I spoke up finally getting rude back at her and said "I'm sorry I didn't tell you every little thing about my dog. You were very busy in the lobby when I dropped off, and I had to leave. I just want to pay and get out of here." Her daughter yells at me "Don't you talk to my mom that way!" In a manner that suggested she was going to start a fist fight with me. They've been in business long enough to know what can happen when pets board and what they need to know about people's pets. They should have a survey with simple questions addressing their areas of concern. Simple solution! Otherwise, how could I possibly know what to focus on when you ask me "Is there anything I need to know about your dogs?" In short, they were highly unprofessional and not good with people. They are extremely cheap compared to other places (about half the price). I really wanted to like the place, but left feeling very upset. read more

Sorry to see so many one-star reviews. OK, the place isn't pretty and the staff are sometimes frank. I'd much rather someone be straight with me and good with pets, which is exactly what they are. I've taken my dog here twice (once for 10 days, once for 5) and I couldn't be happier, nor could my dog. I've spent a total of 10 minutes in there and my dog has spent (quick math) 21,600. Who is more important in that context? I'm very happy with their care for my dog, their honesty in dealing with me and her minor issues, and her health and happiness each time. And especially given their prices, I really can't imagine going anywhere else. For anyone on the fence I recommend giving them a shot, checking your ego at the door, and seeing what you get in return. I got quality animal care from true animal lovers, people really good with dogs, for a great price. read more

These caregivers are wonderful with my dogs, extremely helpful with his training and let me know how he's doing. I highly recommend this place! They care very deeply for all the pets they care for and it shows in their passion for what they do! I have a Standard Poodle and a Mini-Poodle and they both have done daycare as well as boarding and always with great results. read more

I've been taking my two dogs to Desi and her awesome team for nearly 4 years. They love going there, and I never have any worries about leaving them in her care. She loves all animals and will treat yours like her own. I love that she has half day daycare available at lesser rates, and you can pick up your animals on Sundays. I'm really surprised to see the one star reviews, although they may not be known for stellar customer service or being able to charm you with winning personalities, they do a stellar job of caring for animals and that is what matters to me. Desi also makes sure the place is kept clean, and all dogs are up to date on their shots. She truly cares about each and every fur baby that comes through her door. read more

I wanted to take a tour of their facility but wasn't allowed to until I turned in all my dogs vet records and all info about him which I thought was strange but whatever. I was honest in every aspect of my application online and let them know that my dog isn't big in elderly people and that he had grabbed an old mans arm at the vet because he walked into a small doorway after I warned him to walk away. She then emailed me back saying their facility wouldn't be a good fit for him because they have an older man who does the night stuff who has been working with dogs 10 years. That I should take him somewhere that has individual boarding rooms since my dog goes after people. That offended me because he didnt go after the man the man approached me in a tiny space. I emailed her back explaining how he isn't scared he goes to paradise pets and I was getting another dog and wanted a cheaper place to take two animals but I would continue taking him to paradise since he does so well and ill just take the new animal too. She got very sassy emailing me back and defensive about how cheap her facility was saying shame on me for judging and that I should look at their track record.... No where in my email did I shoot down their facility. Whatever I guess but working somewhere with animals she should know that just because an animal had one incident with biting doesn't mean he "goes after" people. I just thought she handled it very rudely and Im almost glad Im not leaving my pet in the hands of someone like that. Paradise pets is expensive but my dog loves it there so he can just go there and I will continue to be told how great he is and not be yelled at for dumb things. Update: as you can see the owner commented on this post over a year later....her comments don't even involve me that was a completely different customer considering I never visited their facility after the email I received....so that's awkward read more

My 13 year old lab has been going to #1 Petcare since he was a puppy. He's always excited to go and the staff has always treated us great.

Rude staff, very judgmental and suspicious. Owner is particularly rude and if you look at other reviews, you can see her awkwardly scrambling to cover herself and proving everyone's point. I would never bring my animals here. Do yourselves a favor and take your business somewhere else. read more

I called here to inquire about boarding out pets. Owner was very rude and unprofessional. Told me her kennel assistant had quit because she'd rather run around with her boyfriend. I requested to set up a tour of the facility and was told there as absolutely no way she could allow me to look at where my dog would be staying. Very sketchy and I chose to pass. Could be a great place but they really need to invest in some customer service training. read more

I have been a client of #1 Petcare since they first opened. The business has never been run very professionally, lots of personal drama. I kept going there through the constantly changing rules that unless you follow them on facebook (which I don't) you would have no clue about, because I genuinely liked the owners. Well, I guess I didn't get the memo one day and drove 15 miles to drop my dog off for daycare before work only to find a note on the door saying they were closed! Rather than drive my dog all the way back home and be late for work, I went to a competitor of theirs and they took care of me on the spot.(should have done that a long time ago,the new kennel is great!) When I called #1 Petcare a couple of weeks later to cancel my boarding appointments the owner was super sweet on the phone and kept asking if anything was wrong. As soon as I told her I was upset about the note on the door saying they were closed her whole demeanor changed, started screaming at me that her daughter had surgery and I should have known because it was posted on facebook and then hung up on me! Not even an hour later a friend of mine showed me a facebook post from #1 Petcare owner saying what a horrible, selfish person I am and I should think about her daughter and not myself! Bottom line, when you run a business, leave your personal life at home, and don't treat your customers this way! Very Unprofessional!! read more

I made an appointment to take a tour during lunch. (I had to wait until my dog had its 4 month shots which I thought was strange since I was visiting and not my pet). When I walked in I gave my name and said I was there for a tour. The owner looked at my friend and yelled who is that and why is she here. I explained she also had a puppy and was a potential client. She yelled I was breaking the rules and she had not told me I could bring someone. She kept yelling that she should not be there and we were both in shock. The daughter then says follow me as the owner continues to yell from the desk. My friend says how do they know your not my partner and the daughter yells I am a lesbian and I am personally offended. What is wrong with theses people? We were not impressed with this facility and called 2 others who said just stop in no appointment necessary we have nothing to hide. We felt sorry for the dogs that had no toys to play with. Cheaper is not always better...you get what you pay for!! read more

We took our dogs here for doggy daycare 3 times a week for several months. In that time we had a few issues with the owner changing the rules, but it was just annoying things. My dogs were always very happy to go there and would get excited as soon as we turned onto the ally. Then one day I turned onto the ally and my pit bull hunkered down on the floor and I had to pull him out of the car. The same thing happend the next time, but my boxer was still excited to be there. When I asked if anything had happened recently that would elicit this response the owner replied "No, but he is a pit bull. They have a chemical that builds up in their brain and they eventually snap. You can read about it on the internet." That was it. I took my dogs and left and have never returned. I don't know what happened, but I know something happened to my sweet pit bull there. He's never reacted that way at any other kennel or the vet. read more

There is a reason that this place is significantly cheaper than other doggie day cares in Bloomington-Normal. Their customer service is horrible. The chance of getting a smile from the staff is slim, which then made me very uneasy about having my dog spend the day there. There also were times when I would bring my dog home and he would have SO much energy - way too much energy for spending the day at doggie day care. When we would take him to other day cares, he would come home and sleep the rest of the day. It made me wonder if he was able to play all day or not. He isn't the most perfectly well-behaved dog but he loves to meet other dogs, and with help, he can be successful and have a blast. I seriously wondered if they just put him in a crate by himself because they didn't want to deal with a dog who actually needed some support in socialization - which is the main reason why we liked him going to doggie daycare. When I would go in a pick him up, I would try to ask questions about how he did and how the day went, but they just didn't care/didn't give any specific responses. Other day cares would go on and on about how he did, if any time outs were needed :), etc. #1 Petcare would tell me he was fine but there was also an uneasy feeling I had about what really happened. I would just say to avoid this daycare in general. If your dog is perfectly well behaved at all times, then I you may be fine, I just don't feel well about the overall care my dog received at their facility. read more

We changed our dog's daycare, after a few visits to a competitor of #1 Pets'...because the former location didn't give us a tour, seemed distracted/over crowded and at times our dog was in a 'back room' where we weren't allowed to go...(after online research/reviewing reviews of others and asking around town- we found and called #1 Pet Care) and let them know all this and that I felt she wasn't getting the socialization with other dogs she needed; she was around 6 months of age, when the #1 Pet Care team gave me a full tour of their facility, they ensured safety and even a trial/observation of her interactions w/the dogs already attending, to ensure she received the best 'placement' with other dogs, and got 'what she needs' out of her trips to daycare. The location is perfect for us and I love the in and outdoor options! Our dog goes 1-2 times per week and she is always excited to be there, and tired when we bring her home...we love the employees, and always get a good vibe, friendly hellos, and care/concern when we drop and pick up our pooch...we always recommend #1 to our friends/family, because we have had nothing but a great experience with them every single time!
