I spoke with Mare, who's amazing by the way, and she suggested I try Ashiatu massage. I had never heard the term before. "Ashi" means foot. Therefore, it's a barefoot massage that involves using bare feet to apply strokes, assisted stretching the muscles. It's freaking awesome. I'm totally weirded out by feet, but I needed this. It the room looks all BDSMish, but it's totally not. She uses drilled poles to steady herself. I was so apprehensive but excited at the same time. Mare's sweet disposition put me at ease. I really valued my experience because I didn't think about her bare feet. I was relieved and listened to the flute and waves. If you're open and want to try a different type of massage, then this is a viable option. Did I mention they take FSA/HSA, too? Check of their list if serves. He was polite and did take the time to ask about any problem areas. He stated he does body work. At the time I had no idea that was different from a relaxing massage. It just sounded like a way of listening to the body. There was alot of focus on my upper body (shoulders, front and sides of neck and in between shoulder blades) which is where I stated I feel the most tension. I didn't receive a whole body massage. There was alot of what seemed like working on different pressure points throughout the body, I don't know if that's the way to word it but it definitely wasn't a massage like I have experienced with past therapists. Also, there was conversation the ENTIRE time. I couldn't be rude and not respond but a relaxing massage to me is one with no talking unless I am signaling pain or the therapist asks about the level of pressure. I was really looking forward to a nice relaxing massage since it had been years since I had one but that's just not what I received. Bummer. Noting the place was really nice, clean and welcoming. The ladies at the desk were pleasant and greeted me with a smile.
