I love the bagels but I hate the customer service. One of the employees continuously forgets to leave cheese off my bacon and egg sandwich and has very little work effort. All of the employees I've seen work very slowly and look like they're being forced to work at gunpoint. Just recently I ordered a bacon and egg sandwich on sourdough bagel, NO CHEESE, which I expressed at least times. 10 minutes of watching three employees mosey on down to making my bagel, I finally had a bagel in my hand. I had no time to check the bagel because I was in a rush but when I did, to my dismay, it had cheese on it, and that is not the first time. If I could give zero stars, I would. The gift card Noahs sent to me after 6 months was suppose to be for $25.00. There was no balance on the card. I'm not surprised - they are so incompetent. Everytime I call, the person says they don't handle it and they don't give a phone number for the people that are suppose to be looking into it. It's a scan for them to take people's money. I have no confidence in getting this resolved. In regards to the store, poor customer service. I suggest for everyone to go elsewhere and hopefully they will end up closing their business. read more

I LOVE this place. I get a dozen bagels every week. They'll give you freezer bags too... if you slice the fresh bagels, then freeze them, you just pop one in the toaster in the morning and you have a perfectly fresh bagel anytime you want! I love the bagels (and the "egg mit" sandwiches), the consistently friendly and helpful service, and the great location. I really recommend this place. There is this guy there who gave me an order for free cause he knew I was a regular & also cause I told him the last time I came by, I was charged for tomatoes when I didn't get any in my bagel. (It was a different person helping me at the time.) Giving me a free order because of my past situation was good customer service he gave me. If I could give him stars, I would give him 5. I love this location. Everyone I have dealt with has truly wanted to provide the best customer service. The bagels are cooked perfectly. Call ahead and they will pack up your order and have it waiting for you. They'll even bake the order just for you! My son eats a bagel everyday so I come here every other week. If I notice a problem after I get home they make it right on the next order. Love these guys! read more

Noah's leaves alot be desired. The staff is always friendly but the decision making doesn't seem to be up to par. They OFTEN run out of the most popular bagels. One would think to make more of the popular bagels and less of the nonsense. As well, perception shows alot of confusion with the staff if there is more than two patrons waiting. When I was a kid my mom invented a word, "kvatchy" to describe balloon bread, like Wonder Bread, where the best thing we could do w/ it was tear off the crusts and wad it into a gummy ball to eat it. That's what Noah's Bagels are like. When Noah Alper first opened the bagels were wonderful, about half the size they are now, and harder textured. I may be a native Californian, but I know a little about bagels. Then he sold the business and the bagels went corporate, corpulent and soft. Some spokesjerk for whoever makes then now described them as "sandwichable". As my grandmother would say, "Feh!". Today, walking by we saw a sign in the window advertising Christmas bagels in the shape of wreaths and candy canes. What a fucking joke. This place is a JOKE. I alway try to give places a second chance, but so far they have messed up on every order and they keep forgetting to give me my blueberry muffin. Cheap on the cream cheese. I hate to bash Noah's (such a community staple) but after one too many bad experiences here, I feel that I simply must share my review. The long and short of every visit: They're slow. The employees always seem to be confused, and the entrance/egress/ordering approach is weird. I feel like they don't listen. Truth be told, they really aren't that friendly here. The food: Noah's is pretty good. Generally, the bagels are tasty (love the cracked peppercorn potato) but you pay a lot and don't get very much. The egg mitts are thin, and I often feel like I can eat my sandwich in two or three bites. Come on, a bagel should be hearty, you know? Oh, and the coffee is icky but that's a personal preference. What really compelled me to write this review, however, was a few weeks ago when I went here with my husband on a weekday. It was before noon, and there was one other customer in the store. She had already ordered and was waiting for her order. The clerk took my order (bacon and cheddar egg mitt). Both the other customer and I waited for about the same length of time. In that time no one else entered. The clerk handed her her bag and she left about 2 minutes before I got mine. I wanted to eat right away, so I took the bagel out of the bag as soon as we left. Instead of an egg mitt on a cracked peppercorn potato bagel, there was some weird rye or wheat bagel loaded with veggies and what-not. Okay, turn around, go back, walk in - still no other customers there. I very politely tell the clerk that I've been given the wrong order and hand him the bag. He looks inside the bag and the reaction on his face is like he's never seen a bagel before. He looked and seemed really, really, confused. I basically have to explain to him what I ordered, wait while it's remade, then leave without so much as a sorry, a coupon, or even an offer for my husband (who didn't order anything) to keep the error bagel. The whole thing seems to have just perplexed them. And I should mention that no other customers have come in since we returned. I work in customer service and was very pleasant through the whole thing, but seriously . . . I can find several hundred calories to consumer elsewhere. read more

Has anyone at Noah's New York Bagels ever been to New York? And if so, did they ever eat a bagel there? Real New York bagels are not big fluffy pillows of air. A real New York bagel is smaller, denser, chewier. What you are producing is more akin to wonder bread than a New York bagel. You should be ashamed for even calling them bagels. There were 3 employees behind the counter and only two people ahead of me in line, yet they weren't serving anyone. They seemed to be puzzling over something, two huddled together, and one just standing near the door to the back room. After several minutes of suspended animation, I couldn't wait any longer. This is bar none my favorite Noah's. The staff are universally kind, sweet, and hard-working. Rose & all the others deal with impatient, hurried, and (sadly) something rude-as-hell customers with a smile. I am frequently in awe of the BS they put up with - customers yelling at them for a wrong order, for taking a little too long with a bagel, all sorts of minor things - and they never break character. I would have been fired a long time ago if I worked there. As a customer, do everyone a favor and remind yourself of a few things. (1) These people aren't paid much, and they work HARD. (2) It's a bagel shop. Calm down. Noah's makes the bagels they make. If they're not your favorite bagel, take your bagel business elsewhere. (3) Treat people nicely. Even when they make a mistake. Check that - especially when they make a mistake. Say thank you. Say please. read more

Since I just wrote a pretty negative review of Noah's on Telegraph (at Durant), I want to add that the Solano store is much better. The people who work here do their best to get customers in and out and to make sure that people are happy when they leave. I come in several times a month at 7:30AM, usually taking my bike inside the store with me, to buy some bagels. I'm usually able to get in and out of there in 5 minutes or less, even though there's no lack of customers at this hour. I should add that the early-morning customers are often buying large orders for office parties or other group events and that some customers ask for complicated espresso drinks with their toasted bagels. Nonetheless, the staff (including especially Martin and Sylvia) scramble to deal with difficult orders and prevent bottlenecks. read more

However, this location messed up my orders at a rate of 100% (I go about once every other week) from using the wrong flavored schmear, messing up on coupons/discounts, no lox in a Nova-lox sandwich, and just plain deliverance of the wrong order. I spent my entire childhood in the Bay Area and we'd always get our bagels from Noah's, not always from the store, but they would also be sold at the Berkeley JCC and we would usually get them there. However, if the selection at the JCC wasn't to my mom's liking, we'd go to the store on Solano, but given the reviews below, I can see why we hardly ever bought them in store. Good bagels, good coffee and friendly service. Unlike some reviews, I did not get much "shmear" and wish they gave me more :/ I know having like half a cup of cream cheese is a lot but I barely had any on mine. The coffee was nice, it didn't taste burnt and there was a good selection to chose from. It also wasn't scolding hot meaning I could drink it right away instead of waiting. The staff was very friendly. I am not sure why everyone is complaining about this location, I didn't see a problem with my bagel's soft-ness. I'd rather visit Noah's any day then grab a plain bagel at other cafes, at least you have selection and good flavor. read more
