Part of the Raley's family of supermarkets, Nob Hill is your typical western grocery store. Well stocked aisles (usually), mid-tier supermarket pricing, amiable checkers. The store doesn't feel well trafficked so I hope it hangs on. I always check expiry dates because of the slow foot traffic and not being certain of how often their stock turns over. All the usual meat, fish, bread, dairy, fruit, and veg, plus shelf stable goods. I have not tried the Peet's nor their bakery or any freshly prepared foods. Nob Hill Foods on Grant Rd. in Mountain View is a huge grocery store with a lot of parking in their associate parking lot. Besides the typical offerings like the produce department, and meat department, they also have a full deli, a Peet's cafe, a bakery, and a florist. The frozen food aisle is like 10+ cases in length! The interior feels like two grocery stores in footprint, you can get a workout just walking these aisles. Due it it's size it never feels crowded. Nob Hill Foods offer a military and first responder discount if you show ID, and a loyalty program. The service was very friendly. The $5 Mondays, their weekly specials, are a good deal if you leave near the store especially now with inflation issues. Nob Hill is not welcoming to new customers. I had just finished getting my blood drawn at El Camino Hospital and thought I would stop by the market to maybe pick up a coffee cake or pastry for breakfast. Nob Hill is right there on Grant so I thought why not? Saw an ad for steak at $7.97lb and thought, hey, that's a good deal, I'll pick up a pack. Kept looking around for coffee-cake or pastry and figured they don't really offer fresh bakery services when I saw a woman putting out bread from a delivery. No cashiers around at 7am so I went to the self checkout. I tried putting my number in but it wasn't recognized so I had to wait for an employee to help get me registered. "Sherri" comes walking up a few minutes later and I told her I need to get registered as a member to get the discount price. She informed me that even if I register now, it would take 24hrs to take effect. So then I asked if she could swipe her card for me and she said no. Well, ok, let me try my wife's number and yes, my wife's number went through but it wasn't picking up the discount. That's when "Sherri" told me that I need to "clip" the discount on their app in order to get the sale price. That's too much hassle to also install the app so I just put it back and walked out. "Sherri" showed very poor customer service, did not try to help me out and did not care to sign me up or register me as a new member. That's ok, I prefer Safeway anyways and this was a reminder to just skip Nob Hill, waste of my time to even bother looking. read more

Back when I lived in the neighborhood, this was my go-to grocery store -- I shopped here every week for years. Better quality than Safeway without prices as high as Whole Foods. 10 years later, to my surprise, not much has changed. The store is huge and seemingly never crowded. Some of the workers have been there for years -- maybe even decades. Although, like everyone else, there are times when they feel understaffed. The produce is plentiful and seems fresh; a reasonable amount of organic options. The meat counter used to be a huge strength. It's still solid but not as amazing as it used to be. Pre Covid I used the in house sandwich counter and Peet's coffee regularly. They never seem to be open any more. Probably just reduced hours. They've also closed off one of the entrances -- that might have made sense during the pandemic but seems odd now. This is still the best grocery store nearby but not worth the drive for me anymore read more

Recently, Donna helped me prepare an outstanding bouquet and went out of her to decorate it when I mentioned what the occasion was. Nob Hill is known for superior produce quality, but you get what you pay for. It also comes with higher prices than Smart & Final, or Sprouts, let alone Safeway for such produce. Beautifully decorated supermarket in the same shopping center as Ranch 99, now permanently closed Sweet Tomatoes and In and Out Burger. No recycling of plastic bags here, unlike Lucky or Sprouts. Usual masks and social distancing measures. Came here on their $5 Monday. Wife picked up 4 lbs asparagus for $5, 8 count strudel fingers, $1.77 lb red grapes, 16 oz Sukhis Vindaloo chicken, 16 oz Sukhis coconut mango curry chicken, all for $5. She also got $8.14 worth of round corned beef at $2.97/lb. We only come here for sale items, as they are more expensive than other stores. The Sukhis items are normally $9. Costco sells 36 oz Sukhis Chicken Tikka Marsala for $14, but sold the much less popular 36 oz Sukhis coconut mango curry chicken for $10.49 in October. Unlike Smart & Final across the street, Nob Hill has self checkouts. If you have a return, go directly to the employee overseeing the self checkouts. A lot easier than Smart & Final, where if you have a return, you have to stand in the regular line, wait for them to call the manager, and you hold up the entire line behind you. When they have specials, you have to buy before the weekend. After the weekend everything's gone, as they often don't restock sale items until Wednesday, when new prices come. $2.50 20 oz Soy Vat Island Teriyaki sauce here Thursday, gone Tuesday. All the other varieties of Soy Vat plentiful. Would you pay $5 for a gallon of apple juice? One time they had $5/gallon Martinelli Apple Juice. I went to the Nob Hill on Monroe St to get the Juice. They never stocked it, and told me to try here. Came here to the Grant store, and they were sold out on the first day of the sale . Gave me a rain check, but had to come back 3 more times in the next 30 days , before I got my 4 gallon limit. In the past I have gotten the $7.97/lb Norwegian salmon. The salmon fillets were in 1.25 lb to 1.5 lbs weights, a nice contrast to the 2.5 lbs to 3.5 lb weights of local farm raised salmon fillets. You and the wife ever try eating 3.5 lbs of salmon? Just got the supermarket mailer for Wednesday's ads. Safeway has round corned beef for $1.88/lb. Too late to return that $2.97/lb corned beef to Nob Hill, as wife shredded the receipt! Read a lot of the Yelp reviews, and they mention the superior flower department. Last time I got flowers was for the first date with my wife -my current wife, back in 2003! read more

The vibe is fab grocery tucked away on Grant Ave. Love this store. Warm feeling. American soft rock playing! The staff is super friendly. And for me the convenience of Peet's for a caffeine top off cannot be under emphasized. A cup of Havana is part of a healthy breakfast! Haha! This review is specifically for the sushi department. This is hands down the best grocery store sushi I have ever tried! Tastes just as fresh as a restaurant. I work in a nearby healthcare facility and my coworkers and I visit every week for our favorite sushi! I've been a customer of Nob Hill since moving here 30 years ago. I've always been able to get great produce etc while here. when we have our holiday parties, we would order a whole prime rib which is alway excellent. A couple of months ago, they had a special on their pork rib chops but when we went, they were out of it. so we got a rain check. we went back a couple of times without success. this time, the butcher said he would personally cut and reserve the port steaks for us. we wanted a two bone pork chop instead of normal one bone. While my wife waited with my son in the ER at the hospital down the street, I made a trip to Nob Hill to get my son a snack. As I was leaving, a shriveled old troll of a woman who worked there was walking in the opposite direction. As she walked by, she glared at me with a facial expression that looked like she had been sucking a lemon. Actually, she looked like a pug wearing a beanie and glasses (and sucking a lemon). But I'm not one to judge. I flashed a smile as we crossed paths, but she didn't reciprocate. Instead, after passing me, she made a comment implying that I was stealing the two items I had just purchased: a bag of dates and a baguette. I've never stolen anything in my life. I had to get back to the hospital and didn't have the time, a reason, or a desire to dignify her accusation with a response, so I kept walking. Then she shouted, "Asshole!" I hope she checked the security cameras, saw me pay for my groceries at the self checkout, and felt stupid for even suggesting that I was stealing (who am I kidding, that ain't going to happen). I don't know what can be so suspicious about a middle-aged white guy walking out a door (from the direction of the registers, no less) with a baguette and a bag of dates. If she were checking receipts at the door, I could've easily put her suspicions to rest. There was absolutely no reason to suspect I stole anything, and certainly no reason to call me, a paying customer, an asshole. It's absolutely ridiculous. Other than having an open-mouth drooling, pants-wetting level of senility, there is no excuse for that type of behavior, and she should be fired. The fact she felt free to call a customer an asshole speaks volumes about this place. Despite the higher prices, I used to come here to get my groceries because it's a little closer to home. Not anymore! Should I talk to her manager? Yeah, probably. Maybe I will. If I don't, I hope this review suffices. I definitely would have spoken to the manager at the time if I wasn't in a hurry. Alas, these types of things always seem to happen at the most inconvenient times. As if paying ridiculously high prices wasn't enough, paying customers may also be harassed by the employees at this place. I don't know about you, but I deal with enough crap in my life. I don't need this. I just want to get my food and go home. For now on, I'm driving just a little farther away to get my groceries at Safeway, and you should do the same. Screw this place. read more

Racial profiling in full effect at this location. Will no longer shop at Nob Hill. I went through self checkout and while I was waiting for my receipt to print I had an employee violate my personal space to lean over my shoulder to see that the receipt was printing and then he said 'oh, okay' and walked away. I had two items and there was no one else using self-checkout so I'm not sure what other issue there could have been. I asked him and he fumbled for words and made a few awkward gestures which further confirmed his frame of mind in my opinion. I just went in and spoke with the store manager who was very polite and seemed to understand my concern and he said that he would talk to the employee in question. I've previously had bouquets re-wrapped with bows at other grocery stores, so I thought I'd do the same for the engagement bouquet. To my delight, Sara in the floral department went ABOVE & BEYOND with the bouquet! She wrapped the flowers so gorgeously and took her time to piece together the best arrangement. This is a special review for Sara, one of the store managers and such an excellent human being that deserves this special note. Sara always goes the extra mile for her clients and with a big smile and positivity. When I come with my young girls to buy flowers, she is so kind and gives them a balloon, which they love and wanna come back. Store overall very good. Many quality items. However -- the fresh produce section is terrible. The avocados seem like they've gone through freezing and un-freezing, and most of them are fibrous mush inside and unusable. Blueberries are mealy. Strawberries are sour. Go to Whole Foods for better fruit and avocados. read more

This place has a poke/ceviche bar. Sold! This is a very similar type place to Whole Foods, but with a lot more space overall. It's a little cheaper than Whole Foods as well, but key words being "a little" as it's still pretty pricey. Still its located in a very safe area, and there are a ton of choices for food. I felt very comfortable here and the service was very friendly which goes a long way in my book. If you're in the area and in quick need of food/drinks then this should be your spot. read more

I called the store to ask what time the deli closes, and they tell me 10pm daily. So I drove 20 min to this location, and am standing at the deli at 9:35pm. Which is somewhat last minute, but it doesn't take that long to clean and sanitize a meat slicer. And I only wanted two different meats. So I ask the gentleman working the deli if he was still open, and all he says to me is "No, our meat cutters are off now." He doesn't apologize or say anything else. As I start walking away, I see the sign on the deli glass. I love Nob Hill's produce, meat, deli and customer service. But this is the first time I've had bad customer service at any Nob Hill location. Sad to say, but I'm willing to drive an extra few miles to another location from now on. read more

Today, I had an over and beyond level of customer satisfaction experience at the florist in Nob Hill. I came in not knowing what to get my sister who is celebrating her 60th bday. During this pandemic, we were not able to join her for her special day. Sara from the florist department patiently spent time with me matching the different colors of roses. Hands down one of the best Nob Hill Foods that provides superior customer service, and for that reason, I'm hooked! Every department I wondered into, the staff always greeted me with a genuine smile. They really make a huge effort to provide every customer, the best experience possible. One of my favorite hangout here is their in-house Peet's Coffee. They have a huge lounge inside with sofa and all! They also have a huge outdoor area for you to sip your favorite beverage, or simply, enjoy a fantastic hot meal from their deli dept. The supermarket arms race continues. Since Whole Foods moved into the area and Safeway has upgraded all of it's local branches, there's yet a new contender in town. The old Nob Hill Foods here moved into the old Circuit City location and it is HUGE-MUNGOUS. I got a postcard in the mail the other day where they were touting a full US Postal Service counter in the store itself. So when I had to ship some things for work I decided to drop by. Sure enough they had a section of the supermarket dedicated to shipping. Now I don't have to go downtown to the post office and deal with that assness because this is just so much closer. They are doing a grand opening and it was already super bustling. However everyone was very nice/helpful and I got my stuff shipped out in no time flat. I think this might be slightly larger than the Los Altos Whole Foods which is simply insane. Too bad I had to go to work or I could have spent a few hours looking at the selection. I'll return for my weekend shopping routine and update the review accordingly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Short update. Ok so I came back after work and this place is even more insane than I thought. Besides the post office, there's a mini US Bank branch in here. You mean I can get a home equity loan with my produce?
