Love, love, love See's chocolates! We are fans of dark chocolate and See's is really among the best. I order See's as gifts for folks out of town and they love it too. The Lollypops are also a big hit - they last a long time and are a perfect sugar hit. This store is easy to find, the parking is ample, and the staff are friendly.

Nice ladies at this location. I came in to get assorted chocolates, lollipops, and dark chocolate marshmallows. Amy G. offered me a sample and she described a few chocolates. I chose the apricot bon bon which was delicious and had a tart flavor. It doesn't taste like the usual chocolate covered fruits. The bon bon has the fruit and a thick caramel like consistency. The parking lot is small and it's easy to get out.

It's probably the best bet to get a gift that is cute and unique but you want it to lean more towards being western and not too kawaii and anime. Think of gifting a punny keychain or cute Jellycat versus a Chiikawa plushie or anime acrylic if that makes sense. Meaning that it's probably easier and maybe more acceptable to get a slightly more normie a gift here than it is elsewhere. As you can see, I'm learning what it's like to touch grass and re-integrate into human society. There's a good number of plushies, Jellycat and unique ones like a pink fairy armadillo mole one, tote bags and socks, nice range of jewelry, lots of California themed goods if you're looking for souvenirs that aren't mega generic, and they have a lot of other items as well. As with the quality and high regard some of these items have (Jellycats are NOT cheap), it can be a bit pricier, so make sure that you shop around and check prices elsewhere and that you actually truly care about the person you're getting stuff for and it's not a forced obligation one (family member you're ugh with or coworker Secret Santa that you barely know). Maybe a couple cute things I had my eye on, but it wasn't really for me (speaks volumes about me), but I can see how a store like this works in a pinch if you're gift shopping.

But it was invisible to me. Until today, anyway. I am so happy I finally found it. Because Gourmet Works is much more than a store that sells candy and chocolate. In fact, as the name would suggest, it's more of a Gourmet food store and Gift Shop than a Chocolate Shop. But it's also a hella cool chocolate shop and that's the main reason I will be sure to return. Right when you walk in the door you are surrounded by an astonishingly large variety of items that would make the perfect gift for a loved one, or for yourself. Because, I ain't gonna lie, there were at least a dozen items that I considered buying for myself. I thought to myself, you know, I do so much for me, and it seems I rarely properly thank myself for my devoted patronage and self care. If you are interested in high quality gourmet gifts, Gourmet Works is definitely the place to go! They carry so many products you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere. Gourmet Salts, Dried Herbs, Pasta Sauces, Dried Pasta, Curry Sauces, Masala Simmer Sauce, Special Preserves and Jams. An impressive, well-curated selection. Then, at the back of the store you find the kind of Chocolate display case that dreams are made of. Oh my Lord! Just the Truffle side alone would be enough to melt anyone's heart. But the other side, with the astonishing variety of hand dipped chocolates is where I lost it. I saw the Almond Bark and stopped dead in my tracks. I stared at that Almond Bark. The Almond Bark stared back at me. We were locked into that stare down for what seemed like an eternity. I was sure neither of us would ever give in. But then I blinked. Somehow I became aware that the wonderful woman behind the counter was asking me if she could help me. As I regained my senses, suddenly I felt so embarrassed. How long had I been staring at that Almond Bark? How many times had she tried to get my attention? I had no idea. I tried to play it off like there was nothing going on between me and that Almond Bark. I casually inquired about some Chocolate Covered Caramels with Sea Salt on a totally different shelf in the display case. Then, of course, I had to buy a couple of those Chocolate Covered Carmels with Sea Salt, to cover up the whole situation with me and the Almond Bark. I purchased a couple ordinary, un-chocolate covered Caramels with Sea Salt too. The woman behind the counter couldn't have been more gracious. She didn't let on that she knew exactly what was happening and I wasn't fooling anyone with the whole Chocolate Covered Caramels with Sea Salt charade. So, my thanks to Gourmet Works, and the gracious woman behind the counter, Padmaja (her family owns Gourmet Works). It was such a pleasure to shop at your wonderful store! Mikey C says: I'm coming back for you, Almond Bark!

Most of the items I have purchased at Shady Lane fall under the category of jewelry, but I have also been very pleased with their selection of offbeat, small-maker clothing and outerwear. I appreciate that I can buy holiday gifts for a wide range of family members, from babies to adults, under one roof. A typical visit for me involves spending between ten and ninety minutes poring over their collection of Trollbeads (IYKYK). Then I move on to the artisan jewelry, the crystals, and the small woodworking (think jewelry boxes). And then, when possible, I blow kisses to the little dog behind the counter! I've also been to a few of their special events over the years, including a PassionArt Designs glass bead extravaganza. PS: It's taken me years and years to finish this review because it's one of my favorite places ever!

GIFTS: I was so shocked at all the gift options in this place! And I almost didn't go in because it's located INSIDE the community senior center. But I found the things they sell remind me of what you'd find at Cranberry Hill, nice quality, only this shop is smaller and the prices are lower. Gifts for ME too...lol. Given the pricing and cute stuff, I might have (definitely did) buy a few things for myself too. EASY TO FIND: Anyway, it was easy to find, they had a sign. You just turn right as soon as when you walk in the double doors and they're right there. The center is that huge lot by the duck park, and the senior center is at the far back of the lot. PRICES: They really have a wide range of pricing because of their selection so I feel I can easily find something price appropriate for the person I'm buying for. They had a ton of small things under $5 (even $2 and $3 dollar things) like little mats for under your coffee mugs, but higher end like the amazing colorful hand knit scarf I bought...for myself. It was hand knit with that extra thin yarn...a million stitches and only $45?! Bring on fall! CARDS?! What? YES and so cheap (good riddance Hallmark). Tons of cards like those high end Papyrus ones at the store that are more like a part of the gift, only these started at only $3.50 a card. Crazy. HAND-CRAFTED: Sometimes I think "church bizarre" when I hear that, but they said everything in there was hand made and it looked so professional to me. SELECTION: They fit a lot of stuff in that little shop. Candles, paper art, purses/bags, jewelry and lots of beaded things, knit things, towels, even children's stuff, and a ton of hand sewn gifts like placement settings, and cup holders, etc. Even some of the jewelry (Pom-Pom key chains and seed bead stuff) were teen friendly, along with some of the fairytale paper art boxes. TWO CRAFT FAIRS: They were advertising a craft fair and said they do two a year, in May and November and that it's supposed to be huge with tons more stuff, so I'll be heading back for that. MEN: Honestly, this seems is a great place to men to find gifts for the various ladies in their lives.
