This place is magical. As soon as I walked in, I was happily greeted by the staff and offered a sample. It really felt like a quintessential candy store. I walked into See's Candy Los Altos Long Beach location and was immediately greeted by 3 friendly staff members. Alexandra S. assisted me with a custom pack of about a pound and a half variety of custom packed candies. She was very patient making sure I was aware of the types of candies I was selecting, she answered all of my questions and I asked a lot considering this was my first custom pack. She the let me know she'd be happy to wrap the box and made sure I was aware of the different types of decorative wrap, she helped me decide the best selection for the occasion... Alexandra was so pleasant, this was not my first time in that store but being my first custom pack she really made the whole experience a very pleasant one!!! The main lady that works here is very rude - they are not flexible, do not try to accommodate any special requests or go out of their way to help you. I came in during a Valentine's Day rush with a baby and it was just poor service all around in addition to waiting over 30 min to get helped. It's called "the happy habit" for a reason. The most exquisite chocolates in the world. Back in the day, See's Candies made their own playhouses, better than the usual playhouse. One could play candy shop- like the proverbial "kid in a candy store." The El Camino Real See's is an institution in Los Altos. They always have free samples, friendly service, and the store is immaculate, bright, shiny, clean. A happy store. Their best chocolates are their truffles and marzipans, as well as their marshmallow-filled ones and mints. While many upscale chocolate places, especially in Silicon Valley, are pricey, See's is perennially reasonable. A happy habit indeed. read more

Some things you (should) know before going into a See's: you're going to be offered samples. you should buy some pineapple truffles. you will be surrounded by chocolate that's actually more than affordable. Some things you should definitely know before going into this See's: you're going to be offered FOUR VARIETIES of samples. you should buy some pineapple truffles. A box of them is about $8 (that includes 12 truffles). The hours are a little inconvenient (and hard to find!) but you're rewarded for your calorie-expending efforts in handfuls of chocolate. It's like Willy Wonka, but less sadistic, which is what I look for in a candy store. read more

Who doesn't like chocolate and other candies? This location for See's Candies -- next door to Whole Foods in Los Altos/Mountain View -- is probably my favorite. It still has that "mom and pop" feel despite being part of a candy chain. The store itself is clean and, well, old-fashioned (in a good nostalgic sort of way). My experience with customer service has always been good at this location. This is a great place to buy gifts. It tends to be our go-to spot for those people in which we don't know what to buy. There are only a few parking spots in the front (along El Camino Real). Sometimes, no one is parked in those spaces in the front (leading some to believe that the place is closed). However, there is plenty of parking just behind the store. Tip: You'll be offered a sample while at the store. On a few occasions, I turned down the sample and was offered something else. read more

Nice ladies at this location. I came in to get assorted chocolates, lollipops, and dark chocolate marshmallows. Amy G. offered me a sample and she described a few chocolates. I chose the apricot bon bon which was delicious and had a tart flavor. It doesn't taste like the usual chocolate covered fruits. The bon bon has the fruit and a thick caramel like consistency. I am super disappointed and so frustrated with the store! Looks like they don't care about their customers at all. So much time and nerves spent on it!! And they still don't care, they don't even bother returning a promised call. I was promised to be called by a manager, but I never was. I had to call myself to solve my problem, and I am still being ping ponged. After 7 days still no solution! No clear answers, no compensation, just nerves and lots of patience needed from my side to resolve it. Placed my order 7 days ago, still no clue where it is and why it is not appearing in the system or when it will be shipped/delivered. I placed my order to be delivered to my host family on December 22nd, and when I started tracking it on 27th it turned out it was not in the system yet. I called customer service and they said they never got this order and they advised to call the store. I spent about 30 minutes talking to the store. At first, they said they never got my order. They couldn't find it. I assured I placed it, they were questioning me about location of the store if I am sure that I came to this particular store. I provided them again with all the information, then they said it probably got lost or misplaced somewhere and they said they will look for it and call me back in 3 hours! I said the store will be closed by then since I called them past 3pm, and on the website it showed it was open until 5pm. I said I can wait, and then once of a sudden they said they found my order. I don't know where it was sitting, but it was not taken care of! I asked when it will be delivered. They put me on hold, then they told me it is being processed now, but I checked in the system it did not get updated. They said they were sorry it got lost, but they will process it. I asked why it took so long for the order to be placed, why it was just sitting there. They put me on hold again, and after like 5 minutes they picked up on conversation again saying that nobody promised delivery by Christmas. I told that I did not expect delivery by Christmas since it was already 27th December I just wanted to know status of my order and get solution to it, since it was already 6 days after I placed it. Obviously they did not know what to tell, I could hear lies coming out each time after I was placed on hold. Probably team members discussed what better to tell me, but it all did not make any sense. I needed some of their enormous milk and semisweet chocolate drops for my chocolate chip cookies. Apparently the semisweet only come in the 16oz and the milk chocolate come in the smaller 4oz bags. I rarely come to this store as they did not honor company discounts like the Sunnyvale store did back in the day. The nice lady behind the counter pulled the bags from the back as it is a smaller store and it was more than apparent they were already geared up for Valentine's Day. How can you not love a place where employees wear old school white "nurse" uniforms with black piping and they ply you with a free delicious piece of chocolate when you enter the store. The chocolate may not be the best in the world, but to me it represents an unbreakable tradition. Christmas isn't Christmas without an assorted box kicking around and some Scotchmallow bars and See's Gourmet Lollypops in our stockings. We even announced the birth of our daughter with See's chocolate cigars. Until they discontinued their candy sticks ( boooooo!), the orange, black and white striped ones were always included in the Halloween candy we handed out at the door. Now that I live in Vancouver, BC my See's fix can only be satisfied at a seasonal mall kiosk with limited stock in Bellingham WA, but whenever I hit the Bay Area you can rest assured I pay a visit to this location. read more

My boss needed help to buy some chocolates for his wife and asked if I can help him get some from here. Since I had to make a bank deposit for the company, I said, "sure". I came here right when they opened and at that time, they weren't that busy (less than 5 customers). By the time I stood in line, there were literally 10 people behind me. There were only 2 ladies working behind the counter and the line just seems like it wasn't moving. While I was patiently waiting, I was given 2 pieces of chocolate to munch on. My boss must love his wife because everything is so expensive here. I left with 3 pounds of chocolate and the total was over $57. This is with a $5 off coupon. My favorites are the Peanut Brittle (probably best I've had anywhere) and Toffee-ettes (so good and so much better than Almond Roca). See's is good for two things: gift-buying (although not on Valentine's Day, you generic sap) and PMS. Occasionally my hormones rage to the beat of but-ter-scotch-square-but-ter-scotch-square, and I must partake. I always end up sacking a couple of polar bear claws (vanilla coating, peanuts, caramel) which are also more or less satisfying. I've sampled a number of other things over the years, but nothing else strikes me as sufficiently good enough to warrant the trip. The chocolate-covered caramels aren't much better than the ones out of the bag, and I keep forgetting how disappointing the vanilla buttercreams are (you can get better ones out of the Brach's bin at the drug store). Then again, it's hard to go too far wrong with chocolate. I've never seen this See's with more than one customer in it, perhaps because it's next door to Whole Foods. I want candy. When a girl wants candy--get out of her way! This See's is in my barrio. It has tons of parking, and the employees are always really friendly. Sure it has the same selection of goodies as all the other See's, but it's not nearly as difficult to go here as it is to go to one of the stores at the mall. I'd give um 5 stars if they had a drive-through window... Drive right up, jump out, walk up and tell the friendly little old lady what you want, slap down a few bucks and you're done. The place where I work prefers premium candies for our clients and doesn't want something mediocre. I've bought mints and mixed junior candy varieties from Smart and Final, Office Depot and Walmart but they still never fit the bit. One day, I made the mistake of buying See's Candies' Mini Pops that come individually wrapped in gold with See's logos all over. Flavors come in Assorted, Butterscotch, Vanilla, Chocolate and Café Latte. There are two locations that I always frequent and Los Altos is one of them. Whenever I go inside around 5pm on any given day, there's hardly anyone there so I get personalized service. The service is friendly; the staff is always there to help and is very patient. I know they take lots of time to put the cellophane wrapped candy bundles together, and any one of them would go out of their way to open the packages and get what I need out to buy if something was inside I needed. Because my company reimburses, I always end up buying 8 boxes; 4 Assorted, 1 Butterscotch, and 3 Café Latte. Each individual box is $3.60 each and if you buy two or more, they give you a discount making each box $3.25 each. Once you start popping them in your mouth, you can't stop. It's always nice to walk in the store and be offered some sweets even though you aren't buying. And if you only buy one piece, the employees are really nice to not charge you for it unless you buy more than 2. During the summer months, only Assorted boxes can be found because of production. So if you like Café Latte as much as I do, you better stock up and save! read more

If it wasn't for how delicious See's candies are, I would probably never buy them again after my visit today. Beverly, you certainly are a gem. I have never been blamed for someone else's inability to weigh out a pound of anything until now. After I apologized for apparently not knowing my chocolates are too dense to fit perfectly in a 1lb box I was told that arguing with me wasn't worth the trouble. At this point I am flabbergasted as I too work in the service industry and would be fired if I talked to customers like that. You must have had a truly terrible day. I'm sorry my mother got hit by a car and now I have to pick up her See's without knowing how to order, how inconvenient for you. It is really sad that I was this insulted by my experience that I was motivated to open a Yelp account.
