I really loved my number 5 chicken artichoke on sourdough. My husbands number 6 Nodo steak was really good--I loved the onions and mayo and cheddar (the beef was a little dry but mayo helped that). The star of the show was the freshly cooked basket of sweet potato fries with garlic aioli. We almost didn't get a side and I'm SO glad we got them. Really quirky place that has two levels of seating. I ordered the Bahn Mi which came with fries. The Bahn Mi was very Iowa-nized which is not a bad thing. Instead of sliced pork, they used pulled pork which was tender. I thought the fries and the dip was the star of the show. Seasoned perfectly and sauce was mayo based with different spices. Nodo has the BEST sandwiches!!! Highly recommend the ham and mango sandwich if you like fresh mango. My friend took me here and it honestly surprised me! I had heard about the hype, but it does live up to the name. The restaurant itself is cute- you walk in and order your food and you can take the stairs upstairs to find a cool cellar like seating area to eat. It's roomier than appears. I cannot out into words how wonderful this establishment, for a variety of reasons. The fries are excellent, everyone working there seems to not only like working there, and it was one of the first places in Iowa my sister took me too after I moved. But no, the reason I wrote this review was because I asked for some extra salt on my fries, explaining that I had a bad day at work and wanted them extra. They proceeded to leave a wonderful note on the bag, as well as tuck in one of their wonderful fresh baked cookies. I am so happy to be back in Iowa City and stimulating our local economy again! A friend offered to treat us to dinner so we all went to Nodo for something quick before our Friday night rituals. My husband was adventurous and branched out of his comfort zone (thanks for your recommendations fellow Yelpers) by ordering the c&p. I can't say I've ever heard him order corned beef before but he was stoked to try something new. Unfortunately, the sandwich fell a bit short. He wasn't a big fan of the tangy taste of the coleslaw in the sandwich. My Thai peanut wrap was slightly lacking in flavor, maybe add some more sauce? I also wish the tofu were marinated. The fries were great- crispy, slightly greasy, and perfectly salty. Paired with the aioli sauce, you can't go wrong with these. Beware, the portion size is small and intended for *one* person. Overall, Nodo was okay. The service was fine. The food was fine. The atmosphere felt like a college dorm with random string lights dispersed around the restaurant, but maybe that's a vibe? I can't say anything terrible but I likely won't be back because my experience was mediocre. read more

Whoa! DELICIOUS! This place definitely lived up to the hype. It's in a cute little restaurant off to the side of a nice walking, downtown area. I ordered the ham and mango sandwich and the sweet potato fries with garlic aioli. The sandwich was fresh, unique, and delicious! I would recommend it to any first-timer. Holy Sandwiches, Batman! Nodo is an Iowa City staple when it comes to sandwiches, wraps, soups and salads. My last visit was a Friday night. I grabbed the Cobb Wrap and my partner had a Nodo Burger with cheese-- we shared fries. We ordered then went upstairs to grab a seat overlooking Dubuque Street. I adore they have an upstairs spot. The Cobb was light and pleasant, even though I didn't see it had a bleu cheese spread and I actually despise that. So that's saying something! The burger was juicy and well executed. But the star is always the fries with that AHHH-mazing aioli. Service is professional and polite but slow as hell more often than not. Honestly, a star was docked because of that trend and because the women's bathrooms oddly have no doors? Not cute. I'd recommend checking out their menu online first, it can be overload searching through their crowded but carefully written chalkboard menu.
