I've been here twice, once for takeout, and once dining in. It's great. The staff are warm and friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and attentive. The food is amazing. I also really like the inviting ambiance of the whole place! The only downside is that you have to park downhill and behind the restaurant, and there doesn't seem to be any wheelchair accessible entrance. The bathroom is neat and tidy. We found this unexpected gem while visiting family in CR and we're SO happy we did. Located in the old Spicy Basil spot, this cafe is very small on the inside and there are only a few seats so snag them quick if you're planning to dine in. However, we got our food to-go and it held up impressively well. My husband got the steak burrito fully smothered and it while it wasn't reinventing the burrito wheel, it was an impressive bite. I had the spicy chicken sandwich and it exceeded my expectations - the brand on the bun is a nice touch as well. The elote wasn't quite as impressive as the rest of the meal but for Cedar Rapids it's a rare find. Overall, it was a great, easy lunch to grab that left us full and happy. It's SO nice to have another great restaurant pop up on the SE side and the spot is a great transition from the food truck. read more

Omg! The food here is AMAZING! This is not a fast food restaurant. Its no wonder this place was nominated "best burger in Iowa" this year, and took the #2 spot last year.. they really have thier act together here and I will definitely be back! Customer service is off the hook!! Friendly and helpful, the whole restaurant is absolutely spotless! The ONLY thing that could be a negative is that its a little pricey, but for what you get it's WORTH EVERY PENNY!! You can't go wrong here! read more

Swung thru the drive thru to try the chicken tenders. They are HUGE and very tasty. The homemade chips were yummy- especially dipped in the three cheese sauce. Definitely will order again. Drive thru worker was quick and very friendly! read more

Two words... tomato bisque. This is a must have when you order. Second, you probably need to get there early or be willing to wait a bit. The food is top notch so this little hole in the wall fills up fast and you're in close quarters. The staff is very friendly and you look right into the immaculate kitchen as you eat at the bar. We went with the conquistador burger and she got the conquistador chicken. The clips are very good and we split that because we also got the bisque. As they say, 'finger licking good.' They also have a cold section where you can buy their salsa, and other cold products. It's just a wonderful find, next to a Burger King!! read more

This place had quite a few great reviews on local facebook pages so was excited to try the famous alfalfa experience cold sandwich. They sure did pile on the dill spread! It was tasty, maybe a little extra salty for my liking. I also had the fresh potato chips which were good as well - best piping hot. My husband had the prime brisket burrito- smothered. It was decent. I thought the meat was too salty (maybe I'm having an off day with salt?) and refried beans overpowered it a little and no real spice to it so a grilled jalapeño might be an option for them sometime (also not sure what all their options were to add some spices). Their space is on the smaller size but very nice inside and since they are moving to a larger space soon I'm sure it will be good for them to add more seating for their customers. The service was excellent as the staff were super friendly and engaging. The owner is nice and is a good conversationalist. read more

My wife and i went here this past weekend for lunch. While the building is very small it was super clean and the service was outstanding. One of my favorite new restaurants in CR, which means a lot considering I was born and raised to eat local in this city. Tim, the owner, is a great guy. He always goes above and beyond to make sure you have the perfect experience. Salsa Guy has been a staple at downtown farmers markets but their new store front is arguably better. I highly recommend the brisket in just about anything. The pulled pork sandwich is another major favorite. Service is always super friendly and fairly quick, despite the long lines. The location itself is quite small but you can usually find parking in the back. There are a few options to dine in but I like taking it to go. It's quite expensive, but definitely worth it if you're craving a savory treat. And if you are willing to spend a little extra, try out some of his special sauces. Whether you're looking for a cold deli sub or a loaded burrito, you really can't go wrong here. read more

I was going through the drive thru at the Blairs Ferry location for this review. I was there just before Noon and there were only a few cars in line. I ordered the Brisket Burrito and tried ordering the street corn but they were out!? It was exactly $16 for the burrito. I've never paid that much for just a burrito so I guess my expectations were a bit high. The taste itself was wonderful but the rice mixture was overwhelming the burrito. I expected at that price there would be more meat and I feel that it was quite expensive for mostly rice a few potatoes and a little meat. Maybe someday I'll be back to try a regular sandwich but it may be awhile. read more

What a gem The Salsa Guy Cafe is! The street corn and pork burrito are excellent and priced well.

It's a great place. The people are friendly, and the food is great and large portions. I went with the chili and brisket burrito. The chili was dynamite--just enough heat but not overpowering. The brisket burrito was very good, too. I ate half and took the rest home. I will be back to try the pastrami. read more
