The steak sandwich with barbecue Guinness mayo is incredible. The best thing I've ever had. Their fries with aioli are made with love too. They call their BLT what it really is: a bacon sandwich. Makes it sound like something you'd get at the state fair, but it's actually a quite-well proportioned BLT with an awesome pesto mayo, that's doesn't feel too heavy like the name may suggest. They seem to have a few reasonable healthy options too. The veggie wrap is pretty good with a good wrap, fresh veggies, and balsamic vinaigrette. Must be around 270 caloriesish? And the spinach and hummus wrap actually has a little kick and makes you feel really healthy with how loaded it is with spinach. I thought I'd written my review of NODO already but I guess i hadn't so here it goes. SWEET POTATO FRIES, SWEET POTATO FRIES, GRILLED CHEESE, SWEET POTATO FRIES, BLUEBERRY LEMONADE, SWEET POTATO FRIES, BREAKFAST BURRITO! I went there 3 times the first week that i found it. I've been there several times since. Best sweet potato fries in IC, and the Blueberry Lemonade is my favorite drink without booze in it. As far as the food choices Wendy always gets the veggie wrap which is great and i love the grilled cheese. It has multiple types of cheese in it, and aioli and tomato's. It's so good that it hurts me when am so craving the breakfast burrito with actual chorizo. If you are on the Ace hardware side of town and are hungry check this place out. I HOPE it keeps enough people coming through the doors to keep my cravings satisfied for years to come. WHERE IS IT?? This is my favorite restaurant in Iowa city!! I miss this place, so so good.:) Really excellent BLT with pesto mayo and orange tomatoes. I also worship the ham, mango, and mozzarella sandwich. The steak sandwich is one of my fiance's favorites, and he also often gets the C&P. We almost always get the sweet potato fries--highly recommended. Hummus and Spinach Wrap with Sweet Potatoes Fries. The fries were delicious. They were salted and greasy but probably still healthy than regular fries. It came with a dip that was perfect for the fries. The wrap was good, but I'm going back to try the Steak Wrap, they said they was their most popular. The food was good and the atmosphere was good! We were skeptical, as we pulled into an Ace Hardware parking lot, but could not have been more pleasantly surprised. I had the Mango and Ham grilled sandwich, and my partner had the corn beef - both were great. We also shared a big basket of the sweet potato fries, which are to die for! Everyone raves about Nodo, which has prompted me to come back several times, but every time I leave I can't help but think that it's pretty overrated. The sandwiches are quite good. There are plenty of vegan and vegetarian options, as well as sandwiches for meat lovers such as myself. I always opt for the hot sandwiches, but there are cold sandwiches, wraps, and salads as well. My favorites have been the cajun salmon sandwich and the mushroom sandwich. Be prepared for a messy meal--these sandwiches will fall apart. My complaint about Nodo is that you don't get much bang for your buck. The sandwiches are moderately sized, good for a lighter lunch, but you're looking at $8.00 for a sandwich with no side. If you're looking to add fries, a side salad, or a drink, that'll add up to around $10. While the sandwiches are made with fresh ingredients and taste pretty good, they're a bit expensive for the amount of food you actually get. read more

This place was delicious. I had the #4 which basically tasted like a BBQ cheese steak. It was unbelievable. My mom has the peanut sauce veggie wrap. #28 maybe? It was really good too. Spicy though. The reason I gave it 4 starts was mainly because of the price. We each got the sweet potato fries served with garlic aioli (which was amazing) but not included with the sandwich so it was a bit expensive for a sandwich shop. This was a perfect pitstop for us on our road trip. They have a great selection of food options and a variety of vegetarian options. This place doesn't look like much, but it packs a wallop with its fantastic food. This was our first visit and I cannot say enough complimentary things about every bite of food that I ate. Seriously, you will not regret eating here. They also take phone orders for pickup, if you're in a hurry. My father in law described his steak sandwich as 'to die for'. And it definitely looked it. I got the veggie wrap. The balsamic dressing used was tangy and amazing. The veggies are more than the typical carrots and lettuce that you usually see on veggie wraps. My husband got the C and P and described it as 'the way corned beef should be'. I eat here on occasion, when I am feeling wealthy. I enjoy the sandwiches here, don't get me wrong. BUT...the last sandwich I ate was $8.00. The bread was small and thin as was the remainder of the sandwich. It was a salmon salad sandwich, a take on the classic tuna. It came to my table looking anemic. My son ordered a small Latte, although it was good quality, $4.00 for 12 oz. is Paris pricing! I know that the sandwiches are unique, made to order, and ingredients are carefully selected. That's why I gave them 4 stars. The foods really good. But I notice most reviewers are young and hence must have a lot of disposable income. With age comes wisdom. If the owner reads this even a pickle spear or a small side will greatly increase perceived value. read more

This restaurant inside the hardware store (go through the first set of doors and look to your right) offers minimal seating and is clearly intended to be more for the grab and go set. I went with the nodo steak sandwich. And, honestly, it was a perfectly fine sandwich - everything was cooked properly and it was wrapped in foil to stay warm. My biggest complaint: it looked disgusting! Imagine a sandwich that is entirely brown and is oozing all manner of brown liquids. No lettuce or even pickles here to break up the array of brown. It took a little time to convince myself to take a bite. Once I did, it was a pretty good sandwich! But I just can't get over that initial "oh god, do I really have to eat this" moment. If you're likely to have a similar reaction, so for something more obviously green and friendly, with perhaps a bit less sauce. read more

You have heard of hole-in-the-wall places.... Ace Hardware literally put a hole in the side of their store, put some metal sheets up to separate the food from the 3 tables and a bench the workers must have made and they pump one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. The Ciabatta bread was laced with garlic and the bacon was thick and crispy while not burnt. Do yourself a favor and go get breakfast here, coffee isn't great but that's not what you're going for. read more

The one systematic downside, and something that hasn't changed in years: the food takes a rather long time before it arrives (especially for sandwiches!!). So if I have less than 45 minutes for lunch I usually skip NoDo and go somewhere where the preparation is faster. Confused that I had to actually go into the hardware store's doors in order to get inside, but that didn't matter. For such a tiny little place, the food was incredible. I had the Nodo Pork Sandwich with sweet potato fries after the cashier recommended it to me. The food came out pretty quickly and the smells were delicious before I even opened my mouth. The sandwich itself was a bit messy, but in the good way, where you actually want to lick your fingers. The sweet potato fries were just salty and sweet enough to off balance the rich flavors in the sandwich. I had driven 6 hours before stopping at Nodo, and I'm glad I did. If I'm ever in Iowa City again, this is definitely where I'll be going. read more

This place makes one of the best sandwiches that I've had in the area. I've had about half the menu at this point, and from the C and P to the Ham and Mango, these are some really nicely conceptualized and executed sandwiches. Great spot to pick up lunch to go. The location isn't great, but in my experience with sandwich places, the best ones always have crappy locations. Plus it's in the same building as a hardware store. Buy some tools and get a sandwich.
