Wine House is a spacious, un-intimidating wine space. The first time I visited, I was greeted immediately and felt welcome. I asked the employee what they recommended based on my love of Larmandier-Bernier, and they conceded they didn't currently have it, but they asked what I liked about it, and what budget I was comfortable with. I gave them my parameters, and they recommended a blanc de blanc that I really enjoyed, and they unpretentiously shared information with me about the champagne. They have a mailing list you can subscribe to in store or online, and be sure to do it! They make sure to only mail you news about the types of grapes/regions you choose. I am always happy to open their emails b/c they are purposeful and infrequent. They always offer a special on a dozen wines, so I finally decided to take them up on it. I submitted my order online and during COVID, they operate with curbside pickup. After I submitted my order, I emailed asking for the weight of the dozen b/c I was planning to walk back w/my dozen. David very quickly replied with a kind recommendation based on the distance and weight he estimated. I arrived with a 60L backpack in tow, I gave them a call that I was outside, and they safely placed my dozen outside and patiently waited while I packed to confirm that I was able to transport everything myself. They also include a description of each wine w/the dozen purchase including pairings. The dozen is a GREAT deal b/c it averages to about $10 a bottle for quality wines that I will certainly be buying again. read more

I was on a search for a specific Gigondas wine that I had to replaced asap! I went to three other wine stores and could not find the specific wine I was looking for. I drove around the city for hours looking for a wine that nobody carried anymore. I was disappointed, sad and worried, but Wine House Limited changed everything... well, not everything, but made things a little better. The store did not have the same Gigondas wine I wanted, but they did have in-stock a "better" one which I ended up buying -- a little more expensive, but I'm sure totally worth it. I also bought a couple of other wines for only $11 each. Wide selection of wine, great/reasonable prices and very nice people. I especially like that you can order on-line and have it delivered or if it's easier for you, pick up your order at the store. I would totally be back here again. Amazing selection of French wines, especially Rhone and country French wines. Good selection of Burgundy and Bordeaux, particularly from lesser known/regarded producers. So Stephy, what did you end up doing this weekend? Oh, I went to France and did a stop over in Portugal, what about you? Okay, sooo maybe I didn't actually go there, since those Capital One miles don't seem to take you as far as you'd hope, but I did go on a whirlwind and educational adventure at the Wine House on Saturday. We were supposed to go to Napa this weekend and after other plans got in the way, the plan for wineage was sadly postponed. So we decided to at least get some sort of wine fill in and head here. As we were driving up, I was debating whether or not my friend might actually be a serial killer since it seemed like he was taking me to an abandoned lot or something, but then yay, he's not a serial killer and actually just a wino in the know! Phew. When we walked in, I instantly liked it. It's a huge warehouse with wine, I mean, what the hell else does one need to put a smile on your face. Oh? What's that? You need case discounts? They've got em! Oh and you need a guy named Peter to take you through the place and teach you more about wine in 13 minutes than you would learn after reading Wine Spectator for 3 years straight? You're in luck, cuz he's there as well. I got turned onto about $200 worth of wine on Saturday and while that may sound like a lot, when you break it down, I only paid about $11-$14 a bottle and that my friends, is an awesome score! So now I get to spend the next few months trying wines I've never even heard of before and most certainly can't pronounce. but I know they will be "leathery," "dense," "stemmy," and definitely NOT "fruit forward." Two words: Dirty Dozen. We happen to like things that start with "dirty," but besides that, its a genius way to get to try new wine every month. A mixed case of wine, pre-screened by the best in the business, for $119 including tax! It comes with a print out of their description of each wine and what it would go well with--we consult this little bible every night and are almost never let down. I'm not just using them for their Dirty Dozen, however--I often go in to ask what I should bring home to go with bacon-wrapped scallops or thai chicken or rosemary salmon or whatever crazy concoction I am all excited about making for dinner that night or to bring to a party and they always hook me up with something just right. We are lucky enough to live mere blocks away from this wine temple, but my aunt and uncle even drive from Oakland for the deals and selection here! I saw a sign advertising a wine place while walking around my neighborhood months ago, and promptly forgot it. But then, a few months later, I saw the sign again and since I had time to kill, decided to actually walk to the store. Unlike most stores that sell wine around these parts, there are very few Californian wines (or US wines in general) in this store. The specialty is french wines, something I am somewhat familiar with but by no means anywhere near an expert in. Luckily for me, they do know what they are doing there, and seem to be quite good at providing the right information for the customer at hand: Recently I had a wine tasting of US Varietals compared to their corresponding French Regional wines. I was assigned the Burgundy, so I asked about a good one that wasn't too expensive, and I ended up with a very nice bottle which was incredibly well priced. A couple of weeks later, I went back in to look at something else, and while I was walking around, I overheard a guy ask about wines to drink 10 years out. He received a much longer and complex answer than I received (although the same bottle that I purchased was mentioned). Anyway my point is, if you are interested in French wines, this is a good place to go! read more

This place is my go to supply shop anytime I'm in town. Very friendly staff that can dial you in on some really great and unique picks. Just tell them what you'd like to spend and a little bit about what your preferences, and you'll walk out with some interesting and delicious wines. There is something available at every price point, which is lovely. They even special ordered a delicious Pinot Noir for me and emailed me when it was available for pick up. I'd never heard of this wine store (despite that it's been here for over 40 years, me for over 30, and I'm a prodigious wine buyer) until I stumbled upon them having the second best price in the country for the '16 Beausejour. On looking at their website, I noticed that I was even more lucky in that they were having a sale, and I was able to pick a very well priced '16 Pape Clement. The store is immaculate and well-organized, and the person who helped me was courteous and knowledgeable. Their concentration seems to be Bordeaux, and mine is more Napa and Tuscany, but I'll definitely be looking to funnel some of the business I've been giving to K&L to them when I can. Wine House has an incredible selection of wines from France! They are direct importers in many cases and can get some amazing deals on wines. We buy cases for holiday parties, and one of the gems we discovered there was the J.Laurens Cremant sparkling wine (a silver label) which at about $9 a bottle was an absolute steal! We've had quite a few hit and miss with the Dirty Dozen (12 bottles for $99) but really loved the accessible way of trying 12 different wines from various regions in France (mostly) without spending a fortune. They have an excellent staff that is so knowledgeable and friendly. Just wear some warm clothes when you go for a leisurely shopping experience - the warehouse is pretty chilly! read more

Great find in a random location. They have a GIGANTIC selection of French wines organized by region. The rest of the space is filled with Californian, German, Spanish, Italian, Aussie/NZ, etc of pretty variable quantities. Lots of cool stuff about this place. You can buy bulk--I think we might have looked here for our wedding wine if we had known about it a couple years ago. As their supplies run low, they discount individual bottles. They also sell a monthly "Dirty Dozen" wine sampler for about $100)that would be cool if we could drink that much wine. They have a email and print newsletter that describes their new stock. Besides the inexpensive stuff, they certainly have their share of higher-end wine that I'm frankly too intimidated by to ever buy. Friendly and helpful staff. It's worth just stopping by to look. Some of the nicest and knowledgeable team I've met in SF.. They do great stuff without the pretense, which is so incredibly refreshing. There are many places in the city, but these guys have the best selection of old-world wines, at some crazy low prices. Their advantage is that they are direct importers (no middle man), and in a part of town where rent can't be as much. I stumbled across this place accidentally on my way to the gym and to my surprise it was a wine warehouse! I never knew this existed in the city. If you like french wine, this is the place for you. With the exception of champagne, I have only tried red french wine and I'm not a fan. They also have a decent selection of California, Portugese, and Spanish wines. The prices are good and I highly recommend coming here if you're looking for something different to try. The staff was very friendly and informative and the place was empty with ample parking. I didn't buy anything, but I will definately be back to purchase a bottle of champagne or possibly a french white. read more

The Wine House has a great selection of wines and is run by friendly people. If you have a bunch of family coming into town (or are having a party), you can buy "The Dirty Dozen" for about $100, which is a case of various wines they've picked out. Unfortunately they don't let you switch out any of those wines, so you're taking a chance. The nice thing about getting the DD is that you're forced to try lots of different wines that you wouldn't normally choose. Sometimes you come across a winner, sometimes you get crap, but it's always interesting. I'd much rather take a chance and buy the DD rather than getting wine from BevMo just based on how many points it is, particularly since the DD has introduced me to so many French and Spanish wines that otherwise I would have never tried. read more

If you enjoy drinking wine, you ought to visit here at least once. An amazing selection of French wines, with decent selections from Germany/Austria. A moderate selection of West Coast wines, many of which are reasonably priced. This is the sort of place where you can get a lot of cheap bottles or a very expensive bottle. The Dirty Dozen is fun, although some of selections seem to repeat from year to year [or at least that is my impression, but there still are some new ones]. If you know what you are looking for [or ask the staff if you don't], this can be an excellent place to pick up some cheap and yet very good wines for a party. I just stumbled across this place today, after going to the Potrero Whole Foods (it's just a block away) and as a highly functioning wino who loves a bargain, I was delighted to discover wines from all over the world, in the $10 range. The salesteam of three were all very friendly and knowledgable. After two years of driving past their signs on 16th and 17th I wandered in here for some last minute holiday gifts. What a fantastic place! It's set up like a warehouse, but with descriptions of each wine, everything organized by grape and country of origin and many knowledgeable sales people on hand to help you choose, it feels more like a luxe experience albeit with bargain prices. They had bottles priced from $4 to $100+, certainly not everything on the market but plenty to keep me intrigued for some years to come. I look forward to going back again soon! read more

The Wine House is to SF what Kermit Lynch is to Berkeley. You can pretty much solve any wine dilemma there. And as you grow wealthier, year after year, they have plenty of over $50. bottles to satisfy your curiousities of what a $50. bottle of wine tastes like. That said, there are plenty of under $10 bottles at the front of the store and rarely have I been disappointed. Excellent wine advice, too. read more

This place rocks! I have been a Wine House customer for many years. When I lived in SF, it's the only place I ever bought wine. I still (and will continue to) make the trek from down the peninsula. If you like French wine, this is the place to go. The selection is unbelievable and great quality. I have bought very few things I haven't liked. They have an awesome sale in the fall as well where you can pick up some real bargains. They have limited selections from other places (Italy, US, German etc) with some great choices. Most of all I love the staff. It doesn't matter if I come in looking for an $8 bottle of wine or an $80 bottle. They find you something great at any price range and don't make you feel like a lesser human if you aren't picking up a case of Silver Oak (like some other places) or are some kind of wine snob. read more

Every experience I've had at the Wine House has been positive. They have the absolute best selection of French wines, their specialty, of any wine retailer in the SF Bay Area...Robert Kacher selections galore. Ben and the staff at the Wine House are fabulous! They know their stuff well and are willing to help you find what wines might work for you, given all your particular tastes and interests. If that weren't enough to bring you in, their prices are more than reasonable, especially if you get a case (which you can mix/match) and still get the discount! It's somewhat hard to get to during the week, however, given that they are only open until 6P. I recommend rolling in around 11A on a Saturday and taking your time looking around and chatting with the staff...you're bound to find a basket full of wines you'll like! read more

Imagine they took the wine section of Costco and gave it its own little warehouse out in warehouse-land (aka Potrero-Showplace-Mission Bay). While I'm a huge fan of my local wine shop, the San Francisco Wine Trading Company, this place is awesome enough to lure me across town occasionally. Like SFWTC, the selection here is mostly international, not Californian. In fact, it's mostly French, with a nice selection of German and Austrian (*not* Australian) wines as well, so if you have a favorite obscure european wine region, you've gotta come here. Staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. And, like pretty much every retail shop in this uber-industrial area, they have a big "We are open to the public" sign out front to re-assure potential customers. read more
