Ordering is simple, request vegan and it can be made. Place is clean & quaint, a respit from the bustling Telegraph Ave. I got the Pagoda (made vegan) and the bread is clearly the star of the show. But the filing collectively delivers in good form. The fresh ingredients, the kick from the jalapenos, amazing. A really good Banh Mi, made as they were intended, with attention to detail.

Great Banh mi, the quality of bread is fantastic. A consistent go to and service is very good. Ambiance is chill college vibes as well. I've been here many time and have never been even slightly disappointed.

I was taken aback when 2 orders of banh mi came out to be $30... Honestly was disappointed by the banh mi. The sandwiches were deceivingly smaller than they appeared in pictures... While the ingredients were fresh and the French bread was soft yet toasted just right, it wasn't really stuffed with meats or the stuff you actually cared about enough. Adding on an egg costs you an extra $2.25... like what?! And because they cut your sandwich in half, the egg is only placed on one half of your sandwich, loool. To be fair, at least it looks pleasant and isn't messy, but that's pretty lame that they jack up the price of an egg that much and it doesn't even fit the whole sandwich. :( Additionally, pate is an extra $2, which I could barely taste on mine so that was already a major bummer. Service was minimal - I did takeout. I don't really have a desire to go back after this unfortunately.

i would always pass by this restaurant when i would walk to class. finally tried it today because i was craving a banh mi and im so happy i did! the bread was perfectly toasted, the chicken was seasoned very well (perfectly salty), and the amount of vegetables was perfect. if you looked in the website and noticed the interesting ratio of bread to ingredients, don't fret. it's not accurate (i was wary as well). in a good way! filled me up! also the owner was soo nice and welcoming. will definitely be coming back!

I found this hilarious for some reason.

Been craving banh mi for some time. Decided to stop by here before our hike. First off, love the name. I always said if I had a bakery, I'd name it Nina's Nom Nom's. Too bad I'm not a morning person. Anyways, I digress. This place serves just banh mi: No pho, no spring rolls, no Thai iced tea, and no restroom. Got The District 3. Forgot to ask about the inspiration for the name but it comes with liver pate and pork loaf (cha). Pretty good sandwich. Not sure if it's because I was pretty hungry by the time we finished hiking, but the banh mi was very satisfying. If I'm ever in the area again for hiking and craving a banh mi sandwich, I know where to go.

Sucks to write a bad review, but I'd skip this place if you are looking for a good Banh mi. The lady working was nice, but the sandwich was seriously lacking. I spent $25 for two combo sandwiches with extra pate ($2 extra), and the pate was definitely not worth $2. To my surprise there was only one slice of meat, where usually the combo contains multiple types of meat. I understand that times are tough, but they may benefit from investing in upgrading their food to match customer expectations.

Food: The banh mi was good, but the filling was light, especially for the price. It was mostly bread with a few thin slices of meat. Appropriate to what you'd actually find in Vietnam, but for an American restaurant and for American prices, it's a little small. I would be willing to pay a couple of bucks more for just a little bit more meat and veggies. I believe the price is high since they have to account for the rent located on Telegraph, a busy street. Drinks: We ordered the basil seed drink and lychee tea. They were great. The basil seed drink was sweet with a hint of that signature herbal aroma. The lychee tea was refreshing, and it comes with one lychee; not too sweet from the lychee, not too bitter from the tea. Very delicious Service: The lady behind the counter was very warm and welcoming, there was a few regulars who came in and created a familiar type of atmosphere. The restaurant itself, I think, may have been undergoing a slight/minor renovation as there were some boxes of stuff out, but not in the way of the seating. They have a couple of tables that could accommodate a couple of groups of a few people but not a lot for a big party.

The pagoda - tofu and iced lychee tea

I had the pagoda sandwich which is one of their vegetarian options, containing tofu. I think the lemongrass flavor could stand to be even stronger but otherwise it was decent. There's not a lot of banh mi places in that small area (south side of UC Berkeley campus on Telegraph) but it's likely cheaper to go somewhere else for the same size of banh mi. The lychee iced tea was also decent, it didn't really stand out to me but wasn't too bitter or too sweet for my liking.

The Telegraph Cheese, add grilled chicken

I loove the banh mi here (specifically the Telegraph cheese with grilled chicken). The bread always tastes fresh, and they also have some unique banh mi options that I haven't seen elsewhere. They offer vegan and vegetarian options too. I always order the Telegraph Cheese (cream cheese banh mi) and add grilled chicken (+$1.75). The cream cheese adds a nice creamy texture to the sandwich, and it's delicious. I thought it sounded weird until I tried it myself. Their lemonade is so good too, but they put LOTS of ice. I've also tried the District 3 classic combo & highlands beef - these were just ok. Overall, I love the Telegraph Cheese banh mi. The banh mi I get here costs $9. Not the cheapest banh mi in the area (ba le is only $4), but definitely still yummy and a great choice for unique banh mi's.

Being college students With limited time in our busy schedules, getting food for in our system is often neglected or under prioritized. But having a cheap solid sandwhich place like nom nom bahn mi close by really changes that. Being able to order via snackpass or in person, the wait was virtually nothing. The sandwhich quality was decent. although I feel like it is really hard to mess up a bahn mi sandwhich, I do feel like they could have put in a bit more meat. While the price was a far cry from what I am used to in the san gabriel valley, I am glad it is still below neighboring shops to give students a quick and affordable option. Also the nom nom bahn mi logo is kinda cool

    District 3 - classic combo

We dropped by the place on a weekday for lunch and was surprised by how cute the interior decor was for the place. Photos of Vietnamese daily life hung around the area, with wood accent walls gives a hint of modern and traditional mix. I ordered the District 3 - classic combo. Upon first biting into the Bahn Mi, I was immediately overwhelmed with the pickled carrots. And there was a lot of carrots, like ALOT. Interestingly, they were not pickled in the way I'm used to, less vinegary and much more sweet. The pork loaf had a good bite to it and the pate was creamy and smooth. Overall, the Bahn Mi was dryer than I preferred. Maybe more mayo and pate? Bread was tad bit dry and hard, but could've been due to take out. Lychee tea was refreshing. Strong lychee flavour in aromatic black tea, perfect pairing to the bahn mi. I'm hesitant to try any other Banh mi since it is not my preferred style. But very cute shop and friendly service!

I appreciate their twist (tangerine sauce instead of nước chấm) but it was too one note for me...IMO, it needed acid and herbs. Plus, I miss the texture of peanuts. * Bánh Khọt: Viet Mini Pancakes w/ shrimp, coconut milk batter, herbs, pickles ($24): https://tinyurl.com/34nx7sat - Served at dinner only Fav dish of the night, the savory bánh khọt was delicately crispy and slightly custardy in the center with a snappy shrimp drizzled with fragrant scallion oil. It came with romaine, mint, and perilla leaves neatly layered for easy wrapping. The lettuce was a bit soft and soggy tho, and I think they forgot the pickled veggies. Served with a tiny portion of tangy sweet nước chấm. * Bò Lúc Lắc: Shaking Beef w/ soy, garlic, onion, cherry tomato, arugula ($26): https://tinyurl.com/3rkpukct Meltingly tender cubes of filet mignon but light on the seasoning and aromatics so it was bland. Chunks of pork belly are caramelized in sugar and braised in coconut soda and fish sauce - rich, savory with a good ratio of lean meat to fat (4 pieces). Wish they used more braising liquid when warming up, as some pieces were a bit dry. S E R V I C E Warm, friendly hospitality. The pho was a bit off in terms of the broth-to-noodle ratio. I usually like to taste the broth first before getting a bite of everything, but as soon as I dipped my spoon in, I could already tell how many noodles were packed into the bowl. Once the noodles loosened up, there wasn't much soup left. The broth itself was darker, but not in the rich, deeply flavorful way. It tasted more like it had been seasoned heavily at the end with too much bouillon, fish sauce, or something similar, making it too salty without much aroma. The brisket was good, and I did enjoy the traditional toppings like tripe and tendon, but I probably wouldn't come back for the pho. The rice plate with lemongrass pork and shrimp was decent. I just wish there had been more scallion oil, and the salad didn't add much to the plate. Fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, and carrots would have gone a long way.
