If you ever take a trip up north, this spot is a must try. I tried some delicious Asian fusion dishes that were very unique! To start, the atmosphere is beautiful, with the restaurant right on the harbor of Little Traverse Bay. The ambiance inside was welcoming, with the bar being connected to the outside seating. The service was also amazing, helping out with food and drink recs as well as constantly checking in. The food and drink were the stars of the show. We had the ahi tuna tacos, sticky ribs, crispy shrimp bao buns, and buffalo chicken lollipops. There were so many mouth-watering shareable options that we had to just get a bunch of those. Loved every bite! The drinks were also phenomenal. I tried the moon rabbit, which ended up being one of my favorite drinks I've ever had. Gin, ginger, lime, cucumber, and sesame oil - unbelievably refreshing combination, give it a try. Overall this place was phenomenal and it will now be a must have on future trips up north! read more

Nomad in Bay Harbor is such a beautiful restaurant with an elevated, upscale feel, and the location is hard to beat. It sits right on the water, making it the perfect spot for a nice meal with a gorgeous view. I'll be honest--the food used to be pretty mediocre in my opinion, but I'm not sure what changed because they have seriously stepped up their game! Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. We had the shrimp bao buns, burrata, lobster pappardelle, and the flank steak with grits, and every single dish was a 10/10. The flavors are unique, interesting, and so well done. The portions are also surprisingly generous. It's definitely on the pricier side, but you're getting high-quality food AND a substantial amount of it, so it feels well worth it. The restaurant is beautiful and clean, and the service is always excellent. If you're in the Bay Harbor area, I'd definitely recommend giving Nomad a try--you won't be disappointed! read more

We ventured up to escape The Venetian Festival for an evening. Had never been to the shoppes. Nomad was booked but the indoor / outdoor and open aired bar was available. If you've not been to Bay Harbor, this spot makes it worthwhile. Not every seat is great in the place, but the booths and the bar are very well designed. The view provided outside was an art festival assembling on the lawn of this intimate and opulent harbor. The scene had my mind somewhere between a pharmaceutical ad and Marilyn Manson's, "The Beautiful People." Our server / bartender was super welcoming. We enjoyed a Spritz & a mocktail Mojito. Both well made. We split a large chop chop salad. (Enough for 4 for a light sample but plenty for 2) She had the heirloom risotto and I opted for the spicy sausage rigatoni. We loved the food! We stopped at this quaint restaurant in Bay Harbor for a belated Valentine's dinner before getting to our hotel in Petoskey for a snowboarding weekend. There was live music near our table, too! Drinks and presentation were great - I had the fig and thyme negroni sour, which was lovely. For shared plates, we started with the George's bank scallops which came with poblano pesto, saffron aioli, rutabaga, and butternut squash. Next we had the lasagna al forno with Wagyu beef, short rib, Italian sausage, ricotta, aged Gouda, and mozzarella. The combination sounded incredible, but it was a bit dry for our liking. Finally, we had the little neck clam bucatini with miso butter, oven dried tomatoes, scallion, and furikake. I would've appreciated a thicker or more flavorful sauce, but this was a nice experience overall and I'd come back! read more

Beautiful restaurant right by the Bay Harbour with great decor, view of the water. The energy was underwhelming. Got seated in the restaurant toward the back and felt like the noise level was very quiet and service staff was sparse. The restaurant is family style and encourages sharing. We had two starters; Pesto Burrata and Chop Chop Salad. The bread on the pesto burrata was the star of the show. The rest felt like a caprese salad with pesto and red pepper sauce for garnish. Good...not great. Chop chop salad had all the right ingredients but just felt they were limited. The flavors were good just not much substance...very lettuce forward. We had two entrees; Corn Agnolotti and Flank + Grits. Corn Agnolotti was visually very appealing and great flavors. Could have been served warmer. Flank + Grits was solid with nice flavor profiles together. Felt like it could have been outstanding and just feel short of being special. Biggest disappoint was service. Our server was below average. Ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir. He presented the wine and luckily, I noticed before he opened it was the wrong label. He got it changed. When he poured the wine for tasting he spilled slightly on the table and the glass. I used my napkins to clean it off both as I had white pants and he didn't move to clean up until after I tested the wine. I asked him to bring me another napkin. It took two trips before he brought. When we got the bill, both bottles were on it. He removed when I pointed it out but disappointed he didn't catch it. Also when we first ordered our 4 items, he commented that we had more than enough food...almost implying we had too much. Every time he would come to clear a course he would comment on how we finished it. At the end, he came to our table with the check ready to present and said "I am imagining you aren't interested in desserts." To which I replied, I would love to at least see the options. Nothing caught our eye, but I didn't love the presentation of the after-dinner options. Even offering coffee or tea would have been a better ending to the meal. Felt like we got food shamed. The lady beside us also had to dash to the bathroom as she was served a food item that had one of her food allergies. Poor thing was in the bathroom trying to recover. Not the experience I am sure they wanted either. Feel like there is potential but service and food execution needs to elevate to their pricing levels as those are top notch. read more

Read lots of good things about this place so we were really looking forward to dinner. We had reservations but we got there a little early so we had to sit at the bar a while. We actually saw people being sat that came in after us so we asked about our table. They apparently forgot about us as we were sat right after that at a table that had been open for a while. Although the bar was really nice and we had some great cocktails it is not good being forgotten. Once we sat down and reviewed the menu we settled on some pork fat fries and Charlevoix cheese co bites. Both were very good. However there are a lot of fries so be careful to not fill up unless that is what you want! For our main we got the Prime smoked ribeye. This was really good the second time. The first one was over cooked. Our server was great and made sure we got a new steak cooked properly. The manager stopped by as well. Appreciated the attention. read more

Walking in, the place is beautiful! The decor is very unique and well done. There was a live performer playing guitar and singing. The patio overlooks the lake and it was breathtaking at sunset Food: We ordered a popcorn shrimp bao that was my favorite; shrimp was crispy and flavorful on the outside and soft on the inside, paired with some scallions. Also ordered Brussels sprouts which were good but had a bit too much sauce that was kinda salty and heavy. Pork ribs were excellent; fall off the bone and well paired with watermelon and red onion. Service: Was good at first, then as the night got busier it became nearly impossible to get anything. Service is odd tho...when I asked the server to 'please hold the cilantro' he strongly advised against it on orders from the chef. Then he served me cilantro. This is not a restaurant for supertasters...cilantro is everywhere...or substituters. Another visit the chef or owner had commanded that a small party in a private room was not to be kept waiting for anything, ever. Odd to witness a 90-minute parade of managers and servers...including our server multiple times...while we waited for various courses/items. There was definitely an 'in crowd' vibe and John Q Public was on the periphery, at best. Dangerous waters in the hospitality industry. Hope they hold up because the food is good. read more

What a FANTASTIC place! Great location and view of the water, the inside of the restaurant is beautiful and cozy - reminded me vaguely of the inside of a boat which I'm sure they were going for. Menu seems to rotate which is nice, there were some things I had seen on some menu pics from Yelp that they didn't have. It'll be a surprise! My coworker and I ended up getting a bit of everything: faroe island salmon "carbonara", the sticky ribs, wonton chips with both sauces, "bang bang" shrimp bar, and lastly the branzino. Loved all of them - we ended up eating 99% of the fish, it was so good. Even our waitress was proud of us for eating everything! Drinks were yummy, food was yummy. We had the Devi Eggs, the Scallops, the Bao Buns, with the lasagna and the ribeye for dinner. Our server suggested we get our ribeye medium rare, chef's choice. Of course we went with chef's choice since I like my ribeye mooing. Our ribeye, as you can see from the photo was medium to well done. My husband was devouring the meat, it was tasty still, but I was not happy. When I pay $62 for a ribeye I expect perfection. Sorry chef, but that was not deserving of 5 stars. You were off your mark. Lesson learned... cut into the center of your steak before you eat it. Especially if you're paying $62 for a steak. BTW- the lasagna was to die for. I'll be back. read more

We had the absolute worst service at NOMAD. We visited on a Wednesday night and the restaurant was not overly busy. Our server took over 15 minutes to visit our table initially, which was a clue to how the service would be. After we received our drinks, it took her another 20 minutes to come take our small plates order. Then we didn't see her again for 40 minutes, at which point our drinks were empty and we were more than ready to order dinner plates. Once the dinner arrived, we did not have any plates to share the dinner (which is the point of the restaurant) or silverware to eat it with. We saw the bus person more than we saw our server. At the end, we were not told about the 3% service fee for credit card payments until after we paid. Our bill was $300, I wanted to make sure the manager was aware of the service, because obviously this is a nicer place. The hostess looked over the entire restaurant and could not find him. He then called me claiming he was with another table, which was not true because the hostess looked everywhere for him. On the phone, he apologized for the terrible service and offered to comp a round of drinks if we returned. Why would I come back for a free round of drinks? That's ridiculous. The food was great, but the service was awful. I will say, I saw so many other servers who were clearly wonderful and who looked at our table with pity throughout the night. read more

A nice cozy space in downtown Bay Harbor, right by the harbor with great food and ambience. We got the pole beans, corn risotto, fries, pea hummus, hamachi crudo and lobster pasta. The beans, fries and pasta were great: probably one of the best fries i ever ate and really good beans. My husband loved his pasta and said it had substantial amount of seafood for the price. However the crudo, corn risotto and hummus were less successful. For dessert we got the chocolate mousse cake and banana split. Loved the icecream, a very innovative take on a classic flavorite. Service (Katie) was mediocre; she didn't even bother to check on us while eating, except for when we asked her about my food, which was served lukewarm (with no mention of temperature on the menu that we all expect); she also didn't offer to pour the empty glasses after she saw we finished our water; lastly, she simply forgot to ask about extra drinks, and handed us a dessert menu without even asking for permission first...treats other tables with more attention and respect, simply because we are seen as a family (with kids). Would not recommend sitting here (table 8). Next, food was ok; my food didn't have variety of texture and instead was all soft and cold (which I don't find pleasant to eat whatsoever); other food was bland in sauce and flavor; texture was slightly off as well. The atmosphere at Nomad. is loud and chatty, with mainly older groups of people being tended to, all run by middle and younger ages of waitresses. Be careful of what water you pick as well: she offered us tap, still, or sparkling without note of price up charges; so, unknowingly, we requested sparkling water and paid an additional $8 up charge. Had dinner here tonight for our anniversary. We are vegetarian and they ran out of the one vegetarian pasta entree by 730pm on a Saturday. We tired to make do and ordered a number of small plates, which our server assured us would be staggered. 10 minutes later everything we ordered was on our table. Our anniversary dinner lasted less than an hour. Food was great, especially the pea hummus. The service will make us not go back. Sooo we ordered them a pizza to our hotel (Villages Suites) and went downstairs to Nomad. It was a Saturday night, but no issue scoring a table outside with a lovely view of a gorgeous wedding set up in a tent next to Nomad. The service started off pretty slow, but I'm pretty sure our waitress wasn't aware we had been seated. Once she discovered us the wine and food came out pretty fast. We shared the ceviche, ahi tuna tacos, Brussel sprouts and shishito peppers. I could probably do without the peppers next time, but the rest of the food was really good. 3 shared plates was plenty for the 2 of us, but the 4th was a bonus. Our waitress was very chatty and sweet and it was a lovely meal sans kids. It's a little trendier than the other spots I"ve been to up north, but we enjoyed it. In fact we enjoyed it so much that we tried to take our kids back the following Tuesday night. Unfortunately they couldn't accommodate our party of 5 even for take-out so we ended up eating a charcuterie plate for dinner at Sips next door. read more

We were looking for a nice restaurant to celebrate our anniversary while traveling and we chose well! When making the reservation, we told them it was our anniversary and two glasses of complimentary champagne were at our table when we arrived. As a vegetarian/carnivore couple, we always tend to order too much when in a tapas/small plate restaurant and we did it again! Started out with the antioxidant salad and Jalapeño cheddar biscuits with maple butter to share and both were delicious. Then hubby ordered the Bao buns (3 but could order 4) and liked them. I ordered the Brussel Sprouts and as soon as they arrived, I knew I wouldn't be able to finish them, even though they were delicious. We wanted to leave room for dessert; we were full so ordered the gelato to share - three rotating flavors - I think cherry almond, a chocolate, and cannot remember the third but a great way to finish our meal. Service was attentive but not overbearing. We were sitting at a high top with a view of the harbor and a television playing an old black and white Raymond Burr movie with no sound so we were happy to add our own dialogue. Place was a little over priced, but worth it for the ambiance of Bay Harbor in the background. Hostesses were great saving my fianaces hair emergency... her ponytail holder snapped at dinner and they searched high and low to find her a new one. Started with the bang bang bao buns and they just kinda had me feeling meh. Cocktails were pretty expensive, but definitely tasty. I had the Nomad Old fashioned, and no regrets there. Black cod was delicious. The Sesame seeds truly made this dish. Came with charted asparagus and could have slept on the Asparagus bed it was soo good. read more

We've now dined at NOMAD multiple times and have to say that it's finally, truly hitting its stride. This location has been home to more restaurants than we can recall since Bay Harbor Village initially opened, all of them compromised in one way or another. NOMAD is the most complete and best restaurant that has occupied this space, and is in the running for the best restaurant in the area, in our opinion. We dined with friends on July 14th, ordering multiple dishes for the table to share after excellent advice from our server. The Bang Bang Shrimp Bao buns, Lollipop Chicken pops and Mediterranean Market board were all delicious and a great way to start our meal. We also enjoyed the Parsley Garlic fries (2 orders for 6 people was plenty) which were perfectly crisp outside and fluffy and warm inside. The Dijonnaise sauce was the ideal accompaniment. Just outstanding! For main courses we enjoyed the grilled Octopus, Pear Sachetti, Wagyu Burger and especially the whole Branzino with Serrano Chimichurri. Honestly everything was just delicious, perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. The Branzino is easily enough for 2 people to share, making its price easier to justify. When taken as a whole, including the lovely setting on Bay Harbor lake and the outdoor seating with both branded umbrellas for shade and a fire pit for cooler evenings, NOMAD simply provides a wonderful, unique and delicious dining experience. Yum!! "Tapas"-style which meant sharable plates. We were expecting small portions and wanted to order a ton but be warned the portions are huge! Got Shisito peppers (sauce is delicious), ceviche, onion rings and spicy sausage rigatoni. All very yum. We really wanted to try the ribeye but our waitress (correctly) told us it would be way too much food. I took my parents here for my mom's 82nd birthday - we arrived at 5pm with our reservations and not many people had gotten there. They do have a nice happy hour period that we'll try in the future - that ended at 5 or 5:30. We enjoyed Aperol Spritzes and then tried the Tandoori chicken skewers (delicious - there were 3 so one for each of us), followed by the Peking Duck Baos (3 again - one each) - also good but a little messy and saucy. Then, they brought us the bigger plates at the same time - the Saffron Spaghettini and the Braised Pork Shank. Those were really good - we all had a lot to enjoy - I would say one dish fewer would have been better but we were happy we tried all of these things. We couldn't say no to a dessert so we tried the beignets with ice cream and chocolate sauce which were not as good as the rest of the food. Views of the water were great and ambiance too. A little loud for the seniors - good outdoor tables if the weather cooperates for you. We were inside. I would go back again for sure - next time probably for Happy Hour. read more
