I worked directly with the owner of Bella Vita as the wedding planner for one of my clients, and unfortunately, this remains one of the most unprofessional vendor experiences I have had in the wedding industry. During the wedding, the owner made an incredibly inappropriate comment directly to my bride, telling her that she "wasn't the prettiest bride" she had seen, but that "she'd do." There is simply no circumstance in which I can imagine that being an appropriate thing to say to someone and particularly a bride on her wedding day. Unfortunately, my interactions with the owner throughout the event were also extremely difficult and unprofessional. The issues weren't limited to customer service, either. The food was served cold, and the brisket was tough and chewy. As a wedding planner, I take vendor recommendations seriously because the professionals we recommend become part of our clients' experience on one of the most important days of their lives. Based on my firsthand experience working with Bella Vita, I would not feel comfortable recommending them to my clients or other couples. read more

Just what I needed another incredible dish to enjoy at my favorite restaurant in Michigan. The Shrimp Scampi was just a perfect meal & after you finish you feel great! Not bloated like so many other restaurants make you feeel. Great service from one of their well trained servers & prompt to boot. It's like stepping back to a time when people truly cared about how they treat you when you dine in their establishment, they have pride in everything they do, and that goes for the chef as well. Not only was dinner comped, but the entire bill was taken care of - this is how you do it! What a truly hidden gem. We have been dining in the Boyne City area for over 15 years and never knew this restaurant existed. It is located in what looks like a pole barn. Don't be fooled by the exterior. Once inside it has a warm, inviting family fun atmosphere. The wait staff is very well versed. I am of Italian descent and this food is authentic. From the bread to salad to main course, all was top notch. I had the lasagne which had ample amount of sauce and good ratio of cheese to noodles. Very tasty and authentic. My husband had the fettucini con fungi with wild mushrooms that was decadent but not too rich. Both dishes were mouth watering. They offered a nice selection of wine. The service was good and we didn't wait very long even thought the place was packed. We will put this on our rotation the next time we are at Boyne Mountain. read more

We hadn't been to Bella Vita in a long time. A friend called and asked if we would join them there for dinner, and it sounded good. We ordered my favorite appetizer, the Cambozola cheese with roasted garlic. The cheese was perfectly melty, but the garlic was undercooked. Instead of spreading on the crostini, we had to place a clove on the bread and bite into it. We wondered if bread would be offered or served, as there was a bottle of olive oil and a shaker of seasoning on the table, but no. Maybe we needed to order it?? One diner in our group ordered the squash bisque which he proclaimed delicious. My husband and I shared a Caesar salad which was very generous, fresh, and tasty. A tableside sprinkling of Parmesan would have been a nice touch and really taken it to the next level! Chicken piccata was ordered, pasta with morels, Bolognese, and chicken with gnocchi in a pesto cream sauce. The portions were very generous, everything was piping hot. The food was all very tasty. The gnocchi, however, was tough and chewy-not the pillowy morsels I would expect in a supposedly "high end"restaurant, and for the price paid. Overworked dough or overcooked, but not up to par. Will we go back? Maybe. But there are lots of choices around our corner of NoMi, so maybe not. read more

My husband and I had a lovely date night here! The staff was amazing and the owner Matt was wonderful! Our sever Logan was friendly and had wonderful entree and wine suggestions, she recommended the Chicken Piccata and it was so juicy and had a crispy skin on the outside that was really flavorful. My husband had the Walleye and it was excellent. Dont forget to try the Cam and Garlic appetizer and the Fig Salad. read more

We tried something new tonight for dinner . When we pulled into this place I thought, yikes, but then once inside we were pleasantly surprised. I had the lamb tenderloin and my husband had the linguine fructose de mare...both excellent, both delicious. I should mention that we had the carpaccio for our appetizer. For dessert I ordered the flourless chocolate cake that I had asked to have it to go, so I could eat it at the lake. Our server, Alex, was excellent and very attentive. We'll be back. Delicioso. My only complaint was the Malbec I ordered was on the vinegar side. Maybe open for to long. Might want to keep an eye on that. I couldn't finish my glass. read more

Bella Vita used to be a summer only destination in the Boyne city area, but now is open year-round with service on the weekends in the winter. It's an Italian slanted eatery. It has improved over the last couple of years. If you want Italian in the Boyne City area this is the place to go. read more

The food and the service was amazing, but mostly the fact that they accommodated a party of 19 on the day we were looking was so much appreciated. We could not find a restaurant to eat at since most things were closed on a Monday and we had our whole family together. They made it work and everything was amazing. The Walleye, the Bolognese, the salmon was amazing and I could go on but everyone in our party of 19 was very happy we found this place. Highly recommend going here. read more

Though this isn't your traditional Italian menu, everything was amazing!! We went here to celebrate our engagement with family, and we couldn't have picked a better place! Between the 4 of us we had sea bass (x2), walleye and ribeye, and we all ended up sharing a bit of each, and couldn't get enough, or decided which was our favorite! Also the minestrone and morel soups to start the meal were to die for...and I'll be dreaming about the triple crown pie until we can make it back!! My experience at Bella Vita: Went with my family , 2 of which are young. Was sat in a section with 20-25 drunk golf buddies. The tables they were sitting at should have held 14-18 max. The entire time the men were yelling and cursing and telling speeches. I went to complain to the bartender whom presumably was the owner and he told me "I'm sorry you were sat there but I only have limited weeks to make money, and that was a big group" (or something very close to that effect. Couldn't care less about my or my children's experience. To be honest I found the whole thing including his response pretty despicable. I understand sitting big groups, but he oversat the tables by many people and instead of giving them half the restaurant and sitting everyone else away from them, he ruined mine and another tables evening (also embarrassed me) to make 400-500$ extra dollars in total. Oh but he took 3, 10$ glasses of wine off my bill- maybe he can also help my children to "unhear" that 90 minutes. Being that desperate to turn a buck is never worth it in life. So sad. read more

This one is a definite winner! Don't Judge this place based on the building or decor, the staff and food is impeccable. The lasagna is exquisite, the lamb t-bone flavor was divine and they have an excellent selection of Italian reds. We will definitely be back, this is the best food in the area by far. read more

Restaurant is located just outside of Boyne City. The restaurant itself is a bit dated, but complements the Up North experience. They have a nice menu, complemented by specials. A visit here is certainly a nice treat after a day enjoying what the northern Michigan has to offer. read more

We have a favorite waiter at Bella Vita, so my mother in law requested her. Linda treats us like celebrities. We really like her. She is so personable and made sure we always had everything we needed. A real asset to the place! The food was as wonderful as I remembered. The walleye is one of their specialties. Lots of traditional Italian foods, with a local Michigan influence from the ingredients. It was morel season, so I had to have a cup of morel bisque. HEAVEN! Lots of mushroom-licious flavor. The walleye had a mozzarella crust and a sauce that was creamy without being heavy. I think hubby picked the best dessert of all: Triple Crown Pie, with multiple layers of flavor. I remembered that Bella Vita gets noisy due to hard surfaces, so I got my mother in law to agree to getting us there early so that we'd be able to hear ourselves talk. Fantastic from start to finish. We had a Rollatini Melanzane for an appetizer which was perfectly cooked, followed by the Fettuccini Alfredo con Fungi and their special of the day - scallops with citrus curry sauce and angel hair pasta. Service was quick and friendly, the food was fast, but paced well, and the Sicilian wine was a perfect accompaniment. We will definitely be adding Bella Vita to our list of recommended restaurants. The atmosphere was lovely, but a little loud. Our server had a hard time hearing us over the ambient noise from other diners' conversations. I think a few sound panels would solve this problem and really enhance the experience there. read more

Had dinner with 7 people during the 4th of July weekend and it was a delightful experience. The food was delicious and our server [Laura] was extraordinary.
