Ever since living abroad for five years, I always have to see a good soccer game every now and then. So last Thursday, I wanted to see MANCHESTER UNITED (England) and a good ROMA (Italy) game. Debatably the best bar on Brady street. The go to for all things soccer, especially during the World Cup. For big games, even champions league, they will close off warren street and have additional TVs and a satellite bar. Always a exciting crowd to be around. The outdoor patio is a great spot to kick it during the summer. Plenty of seating, drinks, TVs and now, food! The menu is small but delicious with burger options. During busy times they will also open up their second floor, as the main bar is narrow pub-like hang. They're also very involved and do things like a live playing 88Nine Radio Milwaukee's Sound Travels with Marques Ducette on Sundays. If all of that wasn't enough to get ya in, come for the cheap drinks. Prefix is a shot of jamo and a PBR for $5. Plenty of beers on tap and behind the bar. Decent cider options as well. read more

Cool place where you can get a drink, watch the game and feel like you are really experiencing Milwaukee. How can you go wrong on Brady Street?? Well maybe don't answer that question! Went here to join some friends for the Wisconsin game this past Saturday night. The upstairs is where we spent our time and I am always impressed with the friendliness and experience of the bar-tenders. I am a vodka and can guy but I always try out their drink specials and their bloody mary's are very good! There are televisions throughout to watch whatever game your into and I have heard the patio is the bomb too...but I am going to have to wait for some warmer weather to give it a gander. awesome patio, great hangout spot on a Friday night or even a random Sunday afternoon with the hip/eclectic brady street vibe. there's some patio food of burgers / fries / etc ... I've only drank here so no opinion on the food beyond the fact that it's nice that they offer it. some of their known for drinks include a redbull slushy (rage), and more recently an ice shot you can then throw at a bell. small inside, so be ok with being cozy if you show up later at night during the busy hour. read more

They have 6"x6" little shit sign they made themselves stating if u leave tab open we slap your debit with additional 30% fee. I'm going to make up my own rules too. Friday and Saturday nights? Not so much my personal jam. I hate how people push and shove past each other in this place without regard for personal space. Also, it can get a little young/loud/annoying in here on Friday and Saturday nights. I'm a little too old for that -ish. HOWEVER: Hanging here for a Thursday night Packer game? Wicked fun. Three big TVs strategically placed for your viewing enjoyment. Also fun: cheap PBR/Lakefront stuff, and I guess I never realized that their beer selection is pretty wicked rad. (Read: beer nerdy.) The Nomad is slowly becoming my favorite Brady street bar. located within crawling distance of most of the lower east side, its best to leave your car at home and bike (parking!) or walk, since motorized vehicle parking around Brady st is at a premium. They have a large array of local and crafty beer here, as well as a kick ass bloody and your normal fully stocked booze shelf. Bartenders are witty (important) and remember you after you've been here a few times. I generally keep my stay during the week when its more of a local, neighborhood feel to the place. Weekends here are INSANE (think Eastsider on fishbowl night), they're so packed you can barely move. While it appears half the bar may be outside smoking, there's actually no room to get inside! Worlds shortest happy hour, Prix Fix, quiche soccer [futbol] decor abound, and a loyal trivia night following all make the nomad a quintessential Brady Street staple. I really want to like the Nomad. It's close to home and I find myself here every month or so. But every time I go here I have the same experience. It starts with me patiently standing at the bar with a $20 in hand trying to orders beers or drinks. I'm not snapping my fingers or waving my money at anybody. Just patiently waiting my turn. But the super cool bartenders always take care of the "regulars" no matter how long I've been waiting. I understand the importance of having regular customers but how hard is it to look up from the beer your pouring to give me an "I'll be right with you". You're not some holier than thou hipster, you're a bartender at a small bar. It makes me angry just typing this and thinking about the lousy service. I do enjoy the place overall. There's a great beer selection and the sidewalk patio is great on a summer afternoon for people watching. But the atmosphere can be like a high school clique. And if you're not part of the regular customer clique it seems like the staff could care less about you or your business. And I realize that I'm about 10 years older than the average customer here, but get over yourselves people. You're not nearly as cool as you think you are. read more

Nomad is on one of the few big open, perfect corners on Brady St. It's a great place to experience Brady St. and what it's all about. Situated right across from Walgreens and next to the Dog Haus, a liquor store, and across from Malone's and a Jimmy John's, it's nestled in an area that sees a lot of action. During the warmer months it's especially fun sitting right out front on either side and partake in some good ol' people watching, drinking, and just soaking up what MKE is all about. Nomad is a "soccer" pub mainly as they show any and all major games. They do play other sporting events when on. It's just a great spot to enjoy the game. Upstairs is also a nice area to get away and sip on a few pints. It's small though so be ready to cram in. All in all the spirit of this place is what keeps me coming back. It's just one of those happening places that makes you want to stick around. Great staff and great service! How did I forget they have the killer Happy Hour! It's only 15 minutes. Okay so this place is BLOWING UP right now with the World Cup madness, but it's been a long-time favorite of mine. I've heard some people call the place "hipster", but really there is a diverse crowd of kiddos entering this place, hanging outside on the tables and ordering the Prefix (PBR and a cig for $5--ok that does sound hipster) But they have great beers, great service, and now it's even more fun with the World Cup insanity. This is one, if not the only, bar in Milwaukee that I could go by myself (and have) and feel just totally at ease and comfortable. Ended up at Nomad entirely at random after seeing a show at Shank Hall. First, the place was really busy for a Sunday night, which was a pleasant surprise - we kind of expected everything to be dead, but I guess Milwaukee has a good Sunday night scene. Yay! So, a fair amount of people, but not so packed that you can't get around. The decor definitely fits the "world pub" theme, and they had a really fantastic deejay playing reggae-ish tunes. I'm not a huge reggae fan in general - I mean, I don't dislike it, but I don't go out of my way to listen to it either. That said, he had a great lineup of music which we really enjoyed. The staff was really cool, and prices were good. If I find myself in Milwaukee again, I'll stop by for another Spotted Cow or two. read more

I've enjoyed The Nomad many times. I've also not enjoyed The Nomad on a few occasions. My favorite memory from this beer & shot bar is from the time I sat outside for a few hours on a nice summer Sunday. We had a ball tasting good beer & participating in extensive people watching. The human diversity was off the charts. The bar is at the heart of the Brady Street experience. The Nomad can be the kind of busy where your body rubs against dozens of people per hour. The space is quite narrow & some citizens aren't concerned with your personal space. They open the upstairs, at times, to help the issue. But I've got growing issues will dudes bumping & rubbing & breathing & sweating on me in close quarters. Especially if they aren't being nice about it. "Treat me like a gentleman, sir. I say. Have you no grace in common society? You've rubbed your entire body against this madam & that; and now you've done the same to me." If you're considerate & take it slow, speak politely & say "excuse me," you're doing it right as you pass through a cramped crowd. You know those dudes that give you that impression of aggression and intrusiveness, and not in a good way? That's annoying and unnecessary. That said, it's typically a fun loving bunch that packs themselves in for the night. Large sample size, folks. Some people don't think about bumping into people. That's not the Nomad's fault. It us, general humanity. But it is also an element in a consistently bustling nighttime Nomad. Nomad is popular & has a solid beer selection. The outside space is perfect for people watching on Brady. And since the sink is located outside of the bathroom, you can also monitor the hygiene habits of the locals who are rubbing against you. Wash yourselves, weirdos. And slide past each other in the orange glow of the Brady Street lights. read more

I've been told Nomad is the place to be by many a milwaukian (and during the World Cup it definitely is!). I've given it a few tries but have yet to fall for the place myself. One of their main deals include handing out a cigarette with their pbr. Most people smoke these just outside the door which makes for a not so pleasant smokey entrance that ends up sneaking it's way into the atmosphere too, which for me is not a very pleasant aroma to enjoy my beer. When the bar isn't very crowded and crazy the waitstaff is very nice and it can be a good experience, however more than likely when you end up going it's a mad house and manners go out the window. Last time I was there a bartender spilled someone else's drink on me and didn't even apologize or offer me a towel/napkin. I was astounded by his lack of respect and udder rudeness. Unfortunately this has spoiled my experience and I don't think I'll be back anytime after the World Cup is over. On a side note the craziness they host out in the street for the World Cup is definitely worth going to! Hopefully you don't have to deal with too many rude bartenders that way. read more

The Nomad reminds me of one of those bars outside of the Harvard/Kendall Square areas in Cambridge, Mass -- that are outside the radius that tourists stay within, serving basically a split between weathered townies and the serious scholarly types, all having happy and rude benders together. I don't know what exactly it is that does this for me. Maybe it's the slightly surly, highly sassy staff? Maybe it's the eclectic, sometimes weird but almost never water-street-douchey clientele? Maybe it's the Magic Hat #9 on tap? Maybe it's the fact that I've seen this place packed at closing and then again at 10.30AM the morning after? (And I'm SURE at least half the people there CARED that Manchester United was playing.) Maybe it's just because it's so badly lit that I can't tell otherwise? It just works. -- PS: I *HATE* that it is smoky as all hell, but 8 more months till none of that in Milwaukee! read more

I want to preface this review with one point, that being that even in some of the most disappointing experiences I've had at bars and restaurants, I rarely write anything publicly about the issue as I prefer to discuss any negative experiences with management at that time to rectify any issues and prevent it in the future, and generally management is receptive to feedback. A friend and I visited Nomad's patio on September 7th to grab a drink. My friend went up to the bartender and asked to order a Ranch Water, a hard seltzer that I myself have never had prior, and my friend maybe once prior. My friend simply liked this particular seltzer, plain and simple. The male bartender immediately responds to this request with "That's from Texas, are you sure you want to support that?" My friend was immediately caught off guard by this response and was entirely unsure what this bartender was referring to. Before she can even get another word in or try to understand the point the bartender is trying to make, he immediately follows up with "I mean, f**k Texas, you really want to buy something from there?" This eventually drew attention from some of the staff as well as customers on the patio. My friend asks again "Can I please have the ranch water I asked for?" The bartender eventually says "Sure" and opens the fridge door, only to then point to another bartender and make that bartender get the can on seltzer instead, I am assuming due to the fact that this particular bartender does not want to sell or even touch this beverage. I would like to clarify that my friend is a female, and we soon realized that this bartender is evidently upset over certain political / health care policies that have been implemented in Texas. I would like to clarify that neither of us sought to order this drink to "Support Texas", nor do we agree with the policies I am assuming this individual is upset about, nor are we from Texas, or have ANY SAY in Texas' policies. My friend was NOT EVEN AWARE OF WHERE THIS DRINK IS SOURCED FROM. She simply enjoys the drink. He simply made an assumption based off of her drink order and became verbally aggressive because of it. After my friend received the drink she ordered, this bartender went on to complain to the other bar staff who were working at the time, saying things to the effect of "I can't believe this woman just ordered a cider from Texas" and so on and so forth. It goes without saying that all of this made my friend beyond uncomfortable, with the entire bar and some customers staring at her and the bartender due to him making a scene of her drink order. In short, this bartender decided to harass my friend over a drink she decided to order because of views that SHE DOES NOT EVEN HOLD, because this bartender is apparently incapable of going to work and separating their views from their work responsibilities, and sees it fit to make customers uncomfortable if he even thinks that someone may disagree with him. I'll say it again just for clarification, I don't think myself, my friend and this employee disagree on anything, except evidently the fact on how you should treat your customers who have done nothing but walked into your establishment and asked for a drink that YOUR establishment decides to source. If any of the staff at this bar has an issue with the company that makes Ranch Water, you are more than welcome to have this discussion internally on what alcoholic beverages you decided to stock and which you choose to not stock. That is the correct way to handle this. As a private business, you may purchase whatever beverages you would like. But it beyond unacceptable to source beverages and then have bartenders berate a female because she ordered a drink YOU decided to put on display for sale. I'm absolutely disgusted with the way this individual acted and how assumptions were made which resulted in my friend being publicly chastised and we will absolutely not be spending another dime at this establishment. read more

This is the quintessential travelers bar, from the plethora of art and artifacts from around the world, the map on the wall, the Thai bathroom signs, and the soccer games on the telly. I love soccer! :D Every single time I go here, I end up talking to some of the most interesting, intelligent and well-traveled folks. They have an upstairs now, but I am a traditionalist and sit downstairs every time. Worth a visit if you're in the Brady Street area, for sure. read more

While normally I love the Nomad, who ever was the bartender today, Sat. at 4pm during the Badger game was awful. I stood there for ten min waiting for her to notice me, all she could do was yap away with her friends. Awful, she needs to be trained on how to be a better bar tender. So, it may not really be a worldly pub, but it is pretty darn good. A huge selection of beers on tap, including some harder to find ones. They usually have some sporting events on some big tvs and if there is a soccer game on there is no better place to be. I used to attend the bar trivia and enjoyed it, but haven't been back since my team's big second place finish. I want to hit it up again some time to take home the gold. The only thing that can keep me away is the clouds of smokes. I'm disappointed to say that Nomad turned out to be a standard bar but one with a nice patio. I was initially very much intrigued by the 'world-ly' décor and vibe. We noticed a board by the bar listing their various specialty cocktails, and I was happy to see a mix of common ones (paloma) and their own concoctions. Well, we go and order a few, but the bartender's response was "I don't know how to make them." Wow...this alone should give a place one star, but whatever. We settled for other drinks/beers. They were also playing top 40 music, which was fine and expected, except out of nowhere, the volume got cranked up ten notches and was excessively loud and unbearable. Stopped in here on a Sunday afternoon and it seem like a really cool place. I'd describe it as a typical dive bar, everyone seemed really friendly.Inside was packed so we took a few seats on wall outside, it's actually on the side of the building. The $5 Pre-Fix is what brought us in her and it's well worth it. It's cool because the bartender even put the cig in the hole in the pull tab. It's great having Nomad just around the corner, always a solid option for when you want to step out without making a big to-do of the night. It's casual but not pretentious and one of the few bars on Brady St. that makes the area feel like a neighborhood and not just a destination. Not gonna lie, my friends and I hang out here all the time. If you're into football (the european kind), you have GOT to get to the Nomad. They open early on the weekends to show live Premier League games and the crowd is usually awesome. You'll encounter people from all over the world and all walks of life that get together to bond (or talk crap to each other) over the world's most popular sport. And if you happen to live in Milwaukee or get lucky enough to be in town during a major soccer event (i.e. World cup or Euro cup), the Nomad throws huge block parties shut down the street, bring in huge TV's on wheels, and give away tons of soccer gear! Besides soccer, this place is just generally a good time. Definitely recommend the "Prix Fix" (Shot of Jamo, PBR, and a cig for $5) or some of their delicious tap beers. If you're feeling lucky, play a round of dice with the bartenders to win your shot. In the summer, hit the recently updated patio to watch the colorful people of Brady St. I don't know if I've ever spent a day on the Nomad patio without seeing something ridiculous. Not sure if I'd recommend the Nomad on a weekend night because it tends to get really crowded and isn't as much fun - but during the day on the weekends or weekday nights, the Nomad is a must. read more

I was with a group of people and was enjoying their bar, atmosphere, and the staff seemed to be cool. Then when I got the bill, they charged me for double pours when I didn't order them or was asked if We wanted singles or doubles. This made my bill go from 40 to 70. I asked to talk to the manager after the bartender just stated, "it's only 3 bucks per drink just pay it" the manager then gave me a condescending answers stating "Milwaukee law states all drinks are assumed to be doubles and the customer must clarify they want singles." This must be a new law considering I've been going to Milwaukee bars for several years and have never hear of it. Absolute joke. I straight up never leave bad reviews. I'm the type of guy who tips crappy waiters and waitresses and I couldn't stand them. Just make sure you don't look at the bill before you leave and you'll be happy. read more
