Cute little B&B rentals at entrance

The vegan options here are super limited. We were grateful for our VRBO that had a kitchen as we prepared most of our meals. This restaurant does have some vegan options but they are really limited. Like really really limited. The smoothies and different drink varieties are great. I had a lavender lemonade and my daughter had a chia lemonade. Hubby ordered a turmeric smoothie and my mom had water. She ordered chicken a la plancha (not vegan) and the presentation was very pretty. They used really fun and cute bowls/plates. They had a spicy/sweet salsa that was pretty tasty. Hubby ordered one of the vegan veggie sandwiches and although it looked pretty bland the flavor was on point. I definitely regret not ordering this myself. Instead, I ordered the entomatadas and they were super bland. The veggies seemed frozen or possibly canned? I'm not sure but it wasn't even the right veggie combo I would expect in this dish. The side salad was pretty good. They served it with balsamic and oil. For my daughter, it was a real struggle to order for her. After lots of back and forth and misunderstandings (I speak Spanish too), we ended up getting "fried" tofu with white rice and carrots because they hardly had any kid friendly veggies. The veggies with embedded with the white rice, I pictured more of a stir fry but that definitely not what we got. Luckily, my daughter did eat some of the food although it was definitely not what I had in mind. My plate and my daughter's plate were the most boring of all. Also, they could not make enfrijoladas vegan because the beans have lard in them- this is such an easy substitution and I don't know why restaurants continue to add lard. Anyway, it's an okay restaurant to check out. Wish they had more flavorful vegan options.

This is by far the best kept secret for the most delicious, organic and unique food in the area. It not only offers Mexican food but also twists in Italian, Indian and other cuisine. The atmosphere is so serene and peaceful, unlike any spot around here. It is so special and the most delicious meal. You won't be disappointed!!

Great food! My husband says he has taken me here during a previous trip, but I keep telling him that's impossible, I don't remember dining here before and this place is memorable!! It's a good mix of American-Mexican food. The best thing about this place is that they can accommodate any dietary restrictions. I have probably been here about 3 times this season. They make all their own juices FRESH!!!! They offer outdoor seating and take Covid-19 precautions. Compared to the establishments in this remote town, their prices here are on the higher side, but it is worth trying it, at least once!

Cleaner eating, food is well prepared however not nearly spicy enough. Their juices are a good way to start the morning. ......

Nomada Organics was my absolute favorite spot in La Ventana/El Sargento. I went for lunch or dinner as often as possible, which was 4 or 5x a week during the 5-weeks I was there. Note: Breakfast is 7-1pm, Lunch is 1-2:30pm and dinner 5-9pm. They're closed on Sunday and close at 2:30 in the off-season.

Wow. What a gem! Healthy, fresh, slow food. Beautiful atmosphere and great service. I had the chilaquilles (sp?) with a fried egg. My husband and the Entomatadas. Everything was amazing.

Wonderful organic food and a great little shop filled with local art and farmer's market products. I could come here everyday!

We were told the best Chili Rellenos are at "Caleb's", a breakfast and brunch cafe, opened by an American woman in 2003, and still going strong as a bakery and restaurant. The Chili Rellenos are a 'battered' version, dipped in flour and whipped egg, then fried to a golden brown, melting the Monterey Jack cheese inside the Poblano chili (see the photo). Served with rice, refried beans and corn tortillas, it is everything locals brag about, and certainly a full meal! Current price (May,'22) is 120 pesos ($6.00 US). Sherrie chose the cinnamon sticky bun, and it was every bit a signature breakfast entrée. Don't forget to ask for butter. The owner came to our table and explained the history of her starting a restaurant - tied to her value for Christian service to the local community. She was a delight to talk to, so upbeat and positive, obviously committed to the best dining experience she could provide. The food was delicious and perfectly prepared. The prompt service in an open-air patio and ambiance was all 5-Stars... ...so happy we stopped here, it was the best chili relleno in town.

They also ensured to answer any questions or curiosities about the items off the menu which I appreciate! Avocado Smoothie (5/5) - Thick and not overly sweetened. They give a lot more than the fruit smoothies and I asked for a to go cup to take the rest with me. Mexican Breakfast (3.5/5) - Got it with chorizo and it comes with red sauce and a fried egg. The portion was fair and was filling, however, it was overall average! Matthew's Breakfast Sandwich (4/5) - Open-faced toast and is filling as well with potatoes. Comes with bacon, eggs, chicken and melted cheese on top. This was really good with hot sauce! Overall, Café de Ciudad is somewhere I would go to avoid a wait. It might not be the most aesthetic, but if you're looking for a brunch to get you going, this is a solid spot.
