Good late night spot! Visited this place with friends at around 10pm. The salmon sashimi special was both affordable and delicious. I also strongly recommend the ebi-katsu sliders. I hate trekking downtown on a weekend but after visiting nomeizakaya and trying their brunch on a patio, it makes the trip worth it. They recently revamped their brunch menu and included some unique items like Gyoza with truffle cream and omurice that stood out to me. The flavor of these two dishes were immaculate! The chicken bubble waffle was interesting - my first time to try both dishes as one on top of the other. The brunch menu is only available on weekends until 3:30pm. This review is mostly for the bar in which I had a very positive experience while I waited for my take out order. After a long day of being a tourist, I ordered a tequila shot, lychee iced tea, and a sake bomb. Bartender was nice to provide water in between these drinks and was not judgemental. Waiter recommended I make the lychee iced tea sumo size which increases the alcohol content and not the volume of the drink. She must've known I needed a boost because it was a great recommendation. The takeout food turned out okay but the rest of my night turned out better after being at this bar. Would recommend stopping in for a drink or two! read more

Nomé never disappoints! Tried the Shoyu Butter Steak medium-rare off their Featured menu and it was cooked perfectly tender, - paired with the creamy mashed potatoes, it was a superb dish overall. My favorite was the pesto! - yam fries with rosemary aioli; I'm normally an aioli hater but the rosemary struck such an interesting note - honey butter corn; this is how vegetables should be eaten - unagi rissotto; a small size perfect for its richness - something that starts with a c and had steamed fish cakes and udon; a little out of my comfort zone but my friends loved it - (cold!!) black sesame udon with tofu and vegetables; my favorite dish but it didn't taste much like the black sesame I'm used to (maybe because sugar wasn't added?) but rather some other umami sense I couldn't name Food arrives really quickly so come hungry. I've now dined at all 3 Nome Izakaya locations. Here being their newest location is now my favorite. It's less crowded for now, which means faster service which is what we got. The staffs were so patient with us as we were a group of 7. We made reservations for a Thursday night for 7:30pm and the restaurant was only about 60% full. Love the old school R&B music playing in the background. Menu is by a QR code. Menu was extensive. We ordered a bunch of stuff and there was not one thing we didn't like. Update: it's been three days since my visit and I'm still recovering from whatever I ate that day. ----------- Original review: I was excited to try the downtown location and visited with a friend that lived in the area. We got the 1$ special orders of Lucky and Malpeque oysters, as well as the Japa burgers, beef tartare, oden soup, and fried pork belly. I was actually telling my friend that this could become our regular food place in downtown but later on when I got home, I suffered from food poisoning. That was the only meal I had in the day, and I'm still in pain from the symptoms. The service wasn't as good as the other two locations. I agree with their Google review in that the girls who were in charge of seating and taking orders seemed to have attitude and at least to us they were definitely more boujee and fake polite than actually being friendly. Also, there were two times where our plates were being taken away despite us clearly still eating. It felt like we were being hurried to finish our meal and I personally felt unwelcome. Maybe the downtown location is intended to be a more posh and upscale vibe, but it didn't impress me. I'll stick to the two North York locations for my oyster cravings. read more

I am definitely coming back on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for their $1 oysters! They have a variety of oysters to choose from but definitely first come first serve. We booked a reservation ahead of time to make sure we get there when they open! They served their oysters with a large selection of in house sauces, which was super unique! They did run out of some selections of oysters by our second round of oysters and we were the first customers of the day (on Wednesday). Not sure if they just haven't received their shipment yet or not. But the oysters they served were fresh though. There were only two people shucking though so the service was slow once two more tables were ordering. We also tried other dishes like their Nome's Fried Chicken. We really like the different sauces they offered. We got their wasabi sauce and it was super appetizing! The portions were a little small though We also got their Korean Beef Tartare. Their sauce was a little bit too sweet for us, but I like how it was served on deep fried seaweed rice crackers. We had to ask for some salt for the tartare to balance out the flavours. The third location located in downtown Toronto. Hailing from its origin location in north york. They're known for the buck-a-shuck and ebi mayo. First of all I must say the service was excellent, the servers were on point and polite. My issue lies within the food. If you been to their north York or don mills location, when you order it in their downtown location the food doesn't taste the same. I think there needs to be improvement and consistency in the kitchen side. When we ordered the spicy mayo, for some reason it tasted like curry sauce. The burgers didn't taste the same either. Took my family of four here on a Tuesday night at 5pm. Overall, ambiance is super inviting. Glass windows, natural light, clean modern building. Food: we went more for happy hour so we got 36 oysters. $1 each. The deal is real, confirmed. We got the fried chicken with spicy mayo (sauce was delicious) and burger sliders. Nothing to rave about the food, but met expectations. Price point: expected except the oysters were a steal. $16 chicken and $20 sliders. Service: was good! I liked this restaurant a lot. I recently brought my family there for my birthday. I will not be going back. My partner ordered a roll and first piece he had tasted like butane. He tried and couldn't eat the roll because it tasted so much like fuel. He told the server. The server offered to replace it, but he wasn't feeling well after the butane. The manager came over and began explaining to the table next to us that it was supposed to taste like that. After our server pointed out she was speaking to the wrong table, the manager turned at began her spiel again to us. She started at a 6/10 annoyed. She explained that it's a torched roll so smokiness was part of the flavour. We explained that we know that, but smokey wasn't the flavour, butane was. She explained again that's how it's meant to taste. She offered us a cheesecake instead of taking the inedible roll off our bill. We declined. The manager got more and more annoyed. The whole time she was speaking to my boyfriend and mother, she was gesturing with her hands and her long finger nails were right in my face. I literally had to bob and weave to avoid getting poked in the eye as she berated us for not accepting inedible food. My partner said that the right thing to do was to take the roll off our bill. She agreed and left. We waited for another 10 minutes before our poor server returned to give us the bill. The manager didn't take the roll off our bill, she only taken 10$ off the 22$ roll. I know the server has no control, so making the server come back to us instead of doing it herself as the manager was pretty bush league. We have visited Nomé Izakaya's other locations previously, one at Yonge/Sheppard and the other one at Shops at Don Mills. It is great news that they have opened their third location in Downtown Toronto, which is just a 10-minute walk from Rogers Centre. Some of our favourite dishes include Tiger Shrimp, Sashimi Salad, Tuna Brioche, and Shrimp or Japa-Burger (Slider). During the winter season, we especially enjoy their Spicy Nagasaki Chanpon with Udon. Congratulations on the new opening; we are looking forward to the warmer weather for the patio season! read more
