Mediocre at best. I ordered a root beer float, called in and asked if they could change the root beer to Dr Pepper/pibb instead since there was no option to. The first employee said no, I asked why and he just handed me over to the manager. The manager said that it's no problem. so that's resolved, right? Wrong. I get a call a minute later with the manager asking me to repeat what I wanted again... a dr/pibb float... I get my food and you know what I received? I have only ever wrote one review in my life before, but this deserves one. If I could give it negative stars I would... to be known for award-winning pork tenderloins is extremely misleading and disappointing, It is by far the worst experience and lunch I had ever paid for. The pork tenderloins were extremely thin and dry and completely flavorless. I truly am not much of a complainer and I could tell our waitress was a younger sweet a little more shy girl. I honestly didn't want to trouble her so I didn't say anything until I was checking out and I was asked how everything was for the first time I told her I wasn't really happy with it, that it honestly was disappointing and that it was our first time here, but I left it at that I left and decided to call instead of everybody else over hearing me so I thought I was doing them a favor... but I was mistaken I guess because I called to speak with a manager/owner. They had the owner call me back. He did not care at all... A man by the name of Mike, who straight up told me that they do not season any of their food and that is the traditional Illinois valley food that there's not much flavor pallet to it And that next time we could ask for some seasoning if we decide to come back. The burgers were dry and had absolutely no seasoning but my baby and kid ate it so I wasn't going to ask for a refund for food that was eaten, and for being pork even with no seasoning it was the driest flavorless food I have ever paid for honestly... I can't even begin to explain my disappointment. We paid $5 for a few raviolis in a plain broth $5 for a cup.. the rest of the food is priced ok. The chili was horrible all beans and very bland. From all the rave about it online and seeing reviews that their award-winning and to be excited to try it and that's what we ate, BY FAR THE MOST DISAPPOINTING WASTE OF MONEY. I was so excited to go to a Sunday lunch with my family after we seen the TikTok come across our feed of the best diner in Illinois. I promise you if you go there with high expectations you're going to be extremely extremely let down. We got food to go from here (ate in our car, though they currently have some dine-in; it's just a pretty small space) while in Peru. Very tasty! A single burger was almost slider sized so if you're hungry get a double, or a couple. Onion rings were perfectly crispy and the onion didn't slide out when you bite! My parents went here on their honeymoon. Back then, they had car hops who brought food to their car. I love places like these that are steeped in history. I had the root beer (delicious!) and the tenderloin. I love that my root beer came in a real frosty glass and that my sandwich was wrapped in paper and stuck with a toothpick. Simple. The tenderloin was delicious. Maybe it's because I haven't had one in years, but the Igloo tenderloin just might be my new favorite food. We also shared a plate of fries. They seemed to be hand-cut (not sure) and they were tasty. Everyone inside was super-nice and I love the maps on the wall where you can pin your hometown. People from all over have eaten here! Igloo House is a Peru Illinois favorite among the local community. I wish there were more food options but going with local eateries is always worth a shot. The overall atmosphere matched that of both the warm community and a family owned diner. I came here on a recommendation and left very pleased. The food tasted so fresh and probably the healthiest greasy food that I have ever had. The pork tenderloin and the fries were perfectly cooked and I enjoyed how crispy each fry was made. A little birdie told me that they make most, if not all, of their food from scratch, so the fries were freshly cut! My only feedback for this place is that there should be more sauce options for the pork tenderloin As a tip, you can get immediate service sitting by the stool area. I did not try the root beer, but heard only positive feedback from my dining mate. Also, they make their own flavored soda (cherry 7up). Overall, I would recommend this place. The Place The Igloo is a true classic restaurant. Why? because I grew up eating here as a kid. It was alway "the place" to frequent. Times have change but the Igloo is still a great place to eat. The interior has had new chairs, tables and booths added. The interior is clean and the restrooms have been updated. The Menu The menu at the Igloo is a on par with most diner offerings. Burgers, Hot Dogs, Barbecued Shredded beef, Chicken sandwich, Fries, Soups, Salads, and then was always the amazing pork tenderloin. We had a little of each at this visit. Couple hot dogs, couple cheese burgers, shredded beef, pork tenderloin and a plate of fries. Overall our meal was good but I was disappointed in the pork tenderloin. This was always my favorite thing to get, especially with cheese. Now its appears smaller, thinner, and less flavorful. The Experience/Service/Value My grand kids enjoyed my old hangout. They quickly ran through their quarters in the arcade. Our service was good and food pricing represented a good value. I was raised in Peru - in fact I lived in the apartments across the street from this restaurant until I was 3. The Igloo has always been the place to go for a pork (pork tenderloin sandwich), hand cut fries and chocolate malt - a trifecta of delights. My mother and I used to take walks that ended up there... she with a bowl of chili and me with a pork and malt. I have so many good memories of this restaurant. The same family has owned it for decades. The interior hasn't changed since I was a little other than the owner is a little more gray . The menu is limited, everything other than soup and chili is served on paper and it definitely isn't ideal for a dieter. In fact, it's pretty much heart attack food. But it's GOOD heart attack food. Every time I get in the LaSalle County area I have to go to the Igloo. It's a must. I have brought many of my Chicagoland friends there and they all are hooked on the porks. I brought a co-worker who was Aleut (Indigenous Alaskan native) and they definitely were NOT insulted by the Igloo mascot. They thought it was funny and a slice of Americana indicative of the time the place was opened. During holidays this place has lines out the door. The pork sandwich and the pop are highly recommended and I would agree. You can get "the works" on the sandwich which will add ketchup, mustard, pickles, and onions. Our family stopped for a bite to eat after an afternoon drive during the coronavirus semi-shutdown. So, we ordered by phone from the parking lot, went in when it was ready, and ate in our car in the parking lot. From the short time indoors (to pick up the food and pay) it looks like it would have been way more fun to eat inside--very diner-like, with the red checkered design, swivel stools at the counter, and VERY friendly man and woman (I'm guessing owners) behind the counter. We got pork tenderloins done western style (with BBQ sauce and I think pepper jack cheese, grilled onions, etc) and I was happier with mine than my partner with theirs. Without all the goodies on it, it would have definitely tasted kind of plain, so I'd be a little wary of the basic plain version. Even with everything on it, it the pork tenderloin was oversized for the bun so we were getting multiple bights of breaded meat with no bun and very little on it. For sure you won't finish up hungry. We also had a hotdog, cheese burger and fries and they were better than average. GREAT chocolate malt--perfect flavor, and if you like it super thick you'll be in heaven--ask for a spoon! I was in nearby Starved Rock State Park and heard about this place. I decided to give lunch a try. I had the pork sandwich. I asked them to garnish it the way most people get it done. I only asked this, because I have never tried this sandwich and wanted to get the full experience. I wasn't given any suggestions. I ended up getting it with only with mayo and tomato. I figured this would give me a chance to really taste the pork. I felt the sandwich was smaller than I thought it would be. When I ordered the sandwich I wanted to get the fries with it. Unfortunately I didn't get the order of fries with the sandwich. I ended up getting the sandwich to go, so I couldn't correct the error. In the end I realized I didn't pay for the fries. The taste of the sandwich was OK. It didn't blow me away. I thought there would have been a little more spices and flavor to the pork. The price was a bit much for the size of the sandwich. Not to get us drinks, not to order our food. They came to every table around us. Tables that entered after us got their food, and still not one person came to our table. So we left. Now I understand. I work in a restaurant and know what its like, so I'm probably more understand then most. Hi folks! I lived in Peru for a summer a few years ago (moved there for work). I weighed about 175-180 when I got there. When I left, I weighed way over 200 LBS. I blame this restaurant! The burgers are fantastic, as is the grilled cheese. This is the only restaurant I have ever ate fries (I REALLY REALLY NEVER EAT FRIES, BUT HERE I DID) and milkshakes at consistently. Prices are great and the servers are really friendly. It's a cute little diner... It gets a 4 simply because it's so good..... but it's seen better days. It obviously was the place to be in the 50's, 60's, and 70's, but the decor doesn't even try to remind of those good old days. The jukebox is a nice touch with a nice selection.
