Eight of us came here for lunch on Saturday and everything was delicious. I ordered the brisket grilled cheese and it came with fries and coleslaw. The brisket was actually very flavorful. It had a smoky flavor and I really enjoyed it. My cousin and his wife really liked it also. Two people had the chicken tenders they were big and delicious. My fiancé and grandma ordered the turkey avocado club and loved it. My dad liked his burger. Service was great. The younger guy was really friendly and helpful. This was the only restaurant/bar on the block that actually had a server that greeted us outside warmly, asked if we wanted to view the menu and welcomed us in rather than the two across the street that huffed at us rudely or ignored us altogether. Our service was outstanding and the place was very clean and comfortably air conditioned. Even though not listed on the menu our server said they did have gluten free bread which was a nice surprise and stopped me ordering yet another salad which is usually the only safe offering for me in a bar and grill type place. We stopped in for a late lunch midweek and it was not crowded at all. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. We sat inside and enjoyed the relaxed feel. They offer a nice selection of craft beers along with sandwiches,salads and homemade soups. For dinner they serve steaks,seafood and pork chops. Expect to wait for your food to be served as everything is made to order. I had Monterrey Chicken sandwich which I ordered fried topped with bacon, Monterrey Jack cheese and Parmesan ranch dressing. We were meeting family from different points across the country and converged on Canal Port. I called ahead to let them know, and they were able to set us up in their back room. Everything about our experience was fantastic: service, food, and the visit. Stopped in for lunch on a weekend after a long day in the car. Was hoping the place would have a nice historic vibe because it's called "Canal Port" but upon walking in we discovered it was just another sports bar with big TVs and video slots. Not the vibe we were looking for, but figured we'd give it a shot. Ordered a burger and a hot sandwich. Very meh. Server was uninterested in tending to us and refilling our drinks. Very suspicious place. A group of friends and I (all 18), asked the man in the front who was wearing a pennywise shirt if the food was good. He said "its the best food in Utica" and took us inside. Always had great food and service here till may 31st. Ordered a Norwegian salmon as I like crispy skin. Came out no skin and rosemary potatoes had nothing at all on them. The were cooked with no rosemary no nothing. The 6 pieces of Asparagus were great. GF ordered blueberry pecan salad. It came with no blueberries or pecans at all. Fine orders screwed up. After a long day of hiking, their food really hit the spot. My husband ordered salmon.... but what he got was a white fish, so maybe the kitchen messed up? Either way, he said his food was delicious. I had the chicken oscar. It was very fresh, tasty, and a good size portion to feed a hungry hiker. My kids had the mini corndogs and grilled cheese. Good fries. Visited on a Sunday evening about 5pm. Plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. Full bar and nice clean indoor area. Outdoor was clean and nice but the thing the restaurant cannot control was present in force: flies and a few bees. We started outdoor and went inside. Not their fault. The whole street was like that. The service was friendly and quick and attentive throughout. She offered a description of the specials. We went with the cod sandwich special/homemade chips and the Monterey chicken and diced potatoes. Both were very good! The chips were excellent. As were the potatoes. The chicken sandwich was decent but was a fairly small piece of meat. The cod was breaded and served on a bun. We almost never eat the bun when it is moderately or heavily breaded. This one was moderately breaded. The cod was the thickness piece I've seen and was delicious. The Harp beer was ... Harp beer (you either love it or hate it) and my wife had a mixed drink special of a combo of peach and whiskey variety that was tasty and refreshing. I have to say this was one of the nicest staffs I witnessed. They held doors, smiled and I heard the bartender really provide great customer service to the folks at the bar. Utica has an envious closed off street that other communities should mimic (...cough, cough..Mokena...) The canal port restaurant has old school charm and some tasty food on this quaint street. If you spend the night or weekend in North Utica, there are limited options without driving 15 minutes out of town. It was interesting for us to see 90% of diners eating outside at Skoog's and Joy & Ed's, but hardly anyone at Canal Port Bar & Grill. We ate at Skoog's (like everyone) on a Friday night, and it was okay. Food was just okay. And the flies, everywhere and biting! So we tried Canal Port Bar on Saturday night primarily to escape the flies (!!) and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. My wife got the blueberry walnut salad and I took a risk by ordering the crab cake sandwich. OMG, it was absolutely delicious! On par with what I've eaten on the East Coast. We sat at the bar and the bartender was friendly and offered quick service. Not sure why this place is rated so low on Yelp!, but in my opinion it's a great find! I'll start by saying the food, when we eventually got it was good. Our waitress, said she was new, was very nice and attentive. The kitchen service was awful. We started w/ a crab cake appetizer which arrived 30 minutes after we ordered, and didn't come w/ the roasted red pepper sauce it was supposed to have. Which we didn't care that much so said nothing. 45 minutes after we ordered, our waitress came out to tell us they were out of the blue gill husband ordered. So he ordered cod. Literally, at least 6 tables came and went before we got our food. 90 minutes after we ordered, the food finally arrives but didn't come w/ the sides we were supposed to get. Our waitress came w/ the check and said we were getting 2 of our beers for free (we each had 2). I made clear to her, we know this isn't her fault but we wanted at least one meal comped. long story short, they had to call the manager to get permission and manager said no, "give them $10 off". Great selection of bar food with a twist. We were specifically looking for somewhere to eat where we could bring our hiking pup and the patio here was perfect! We opted for the fried cauliflower appetizer and the chicken bernaise....portions were hearty and delicious. The servers were extremely attentive to our GSD. Found this place for a tasty lunch after a sweltering day of golf at nearby Senica's Oak Ridge Golf Club. Ice cold beers with ice water chasers gave us time to check out the many options on their menu. I got the Turkey Avocado Club with coleslaw and it was perfect after a hot round of golf. The croissant bun was tasty but didn't hold up well with the toppings of the sandwich. My buddy got the bluegill sandwich with their homemade pub chips and he was very pleased with both. Casual open bar setting with lots of natural wood. We have eaten here 3 times over the last 2 years. Once was a Friday afternoon for lunch when they were not busy. The other 2 times were Saturday evening dinners when they were busy. Before getting into my criticisms, let me first say that the food is "pretty good." It's not going to blow you away, but at the same time for a bar-grill type of place, it's probably better than average. Also, they have a large beer and whiskey list and do have some craft cocktails as well. All of that stuff I would consider positive. Now for the negatives though... On all 3 occasions the time it took to get the food was extremely slow. The dinners both took about an hour and 15 mins or so from the time of the order until when the food started to show up at the table (yes, you heard that right). On both of those occasions we had to specifically ask what was going on. The one time we had lunch there, that took 45 minutes or so as well and they were not at all busy at that time. So, if you go to Canal Port, prepare to wait. You might not want to go there with young kids who will get bored while waiting. In addition to slow food though, the mistakes that get made at this place are like nothing I have ever seen before. On our first time eating there, one of the kids ordered the hot dog from the kid's menu. After our group was already about AN HOUR into waiting for the food, the waitress came out and told us they were out of hot dogs and asked the little guy to order something else. Being out of something is fine, but why did it take an hour to realize that? This most recent time we ate there we had 10 people in our party. After waiting well over an hour to receive our food, they then bring out 8 of the 10 dishes. The 9th dish comes out another 5-10 minutes later. The 9th dish was a pasta and when it came out it was missing it's bread on the side. When we asked the waiter about the missing bread, he said they were still working on that. Huh? Still working on a piece of bread? That should be the easiest thing on the entire order. Even after receiving the 9th dish though, there was still nothing on the 10th dish. Still nothing! When we ask where the 10th dish is, you could see on the waiter's face that we caught him off guard and after another 15-minute wait we finally received the 10th dish. It was clear as day they forgot put the order in for the 10th dish or the kitchen just flat-out forgot to make the 10th dish or something. The best part though? When they did eventually bring the 10th dish out, it was missing its side. So then we questioned where was the side and after another 5 minute wait, they finally brought the side out for dish #10. At this point, the waiter did apologize for all the insanity and said their cook was brand new. By the time person #10 was able to start eating, we were probably pushing an hour and 45 minutes since the order was placed!! An hour and 45 minutes?!?! All the kids were all done eating and wanting to go leave before dish #10 was even brought out! The people in our party who were courteous enough to wait for the 10th person to get their food were now dealing with cold food themselves. Just a total disaster. Finally at the end of the night, the check shows up and none of the drinks that were ordered were listed on the check. No beers. No cocktails. No lemonade that the kids ordered. Literally no drinks were on the check. Some people in our party suggested that maybe they removed the drinks as a courtesy since our experience was such a disaster. I don't buy that though. Normally when a business makes a courtesy adjustment on the bill, the manager comes out and offers apologies and explains that he/she made an adjustment to the bill as a courtesy. So, I don't believe they did this as a courtesy since that never happened. My belief is this place is just soooooo incompetent from a service standpoint that this was yet another mistake that they made, but luckily that mistake worked in our favor. read more

Food was not bad but this restaurant has a serious fly problem. No other restaurant in the same strip seems to have this problem. Maybe it's bc their sidewalk is full of food scraps? Could not enjoy a meal, employees must have swatted an army of flies dead in front of the door. Owners not apologetic and making no effort to mitigate the situation either. No fly traps anywhere just a location excuse. Harp was flat. Service left something to be desired. Local health department says they are aware of this restaurant fly issue. Not recommended due to unsanitary conditions and a sandwich full of flies on top of an extremely condescending owner and manager making the experience one worthy of avoidance for the price point read more
