Love the implying soup but so far every dish I have tried has been good. Owner spends time out with the customers which is also nice to see

As I dug deeper, I read Jando's glowing review word-for-word and found myself salivating. Well, I ventured out to S. Mason for lunch, found the place easily, appreciated the ample and free parking, and walked in. I had read before that they used to be closed on Tuesdays and Saturdays, but now they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays but open for dinner on Saturdays. (See my photos.) Anyhow, we walked in and found the place homey. Nothing fancy - just a nice, clean, homey Malaysian restaurant. Not too big, and not too small. We placed our order of roti canai, stir fried flat rice noodles, seafood sizzling tofu, and topped it off with a Malaysian milk tea. Oh my - we were satisfied and stuffed as a party of 2. We ended up boxing up almost 40% of the meal. The roti was near perfection - crispy, hot, flaky. The dipping sauce was perfectly seasoned with the right amount of heat. It included chunks of chicken and potato. You must absolutely order this one. I love me some stir fried flat rice noodles so we got that one with chicken. Overall, it was excellent. Portions were a tad smaller than I would like for the price. Also it could use a little bit of hot sauce so we asked for a side of sriracha which they gladly and quickly brought. The sizzling tofu - OMG so good. I can't even explain it. I just love it so much and the portions are huge. I'm not sure what the vegetable flavor would taste like but we tried the seafood one and have no regrets. Lastly the milk tea was just because we felt like splurging and it was also a great decision. The tea flavor itself is deep and the overall drink is very nice. We got it iced. And an honorable mention - we ran into Uncle Chin (at least we assume it was Uncle Chin) and told him his food was amazing. I think he really appreciated it. He seems like a super nice guy and I want his business to do really well. If that wasn't Uncle Chin then we talked to a random person and raved about the food... Many thanks for Jando for the raving review that convinced me to try this place. Loved it and would absolutely come back as soon as possible!

It gives the place a very homey feel. The servers were all super friendly and attentive and the owner was also very kind and checked on us a few times. The food and drinks were all delicious, good portions, and prices were reasonable. Everything came out in a timely manner. The drinks took a little longer, but it wasn't a big deal. We also ordered a noodle dish that I forgot to take a picture of. One thing to note: I wouldn't recommend using the restroom if you can avoid it. My little one really had to go and it wasn't clean at all or well kept which was a bit of a downside especially with a kid. Overall, we had a great experience and I'm glad we finally tried it.

The waitress immediately said no, just like that -- she didn't even ask or check. We told her, 'Can you please ask the kitchen? We just want onions on the plate. It's not that difficult.' I've worked in restaurants for many years and it's ridiculous that they wouldn't put onions on a chicken dish. She finally went to ask because we insisted that she ask the manager, and the manager said no. We were so confused, like, what? You can't add onions? She didn't say they were out of onions or anything like that -- just NO Then my husband said, 'Let us speak to the manager.' The manager refused to come out and talk to us and said he was busy. But we could see through the curtain that he was just standing there doing nothing, and he instructed the waitress to say he was busy. He wouldn't even face us. He clearly doesn't care about customers or whether people come back or not. Very, very bad service. We left hungry, and it was a horrible, horrible experience. We will never return to that place. I do not recommend it !! They are very, very rude. They do not care about their customers at all. She didn't even greet us. No 'hello,' no 'welcome,' no 'can I get you something to drink?' She just said, 'What do you want to drink?' and that was it. Absolutely pathetic service."

Located inside of the 99 Ranch Market (#1) along Mason, it had so much potential but struggled with foot traffic. As a result, it closed for good several weeks ago. With only a handful of tables, the setup was casual and completely unpretentious. The restaurant transitioned from over-the-counter ordering to a self service kiosk, a practice that has become commonplace amongst many Asian eateries. Prices were reasonable for the area, with plenty of options under $10. The menu featured a number of classics true to Shanghainese cuisine, including their stir fried udon (上海粗炒麵), scallion oil noodles (葱油拌面), min purse wontons (小馄饨), and even braised wheat gluten (烤麩). All of these items delivered in a big way, even their steamed dumplings (水餃) was silky and plump. Unfortunately two Shanghainese staples fell short: soup dumplings / XLB (小籠包) and pan fried buns / SJB (生煎包). The XLB was doughy, unstable, and the broth lacked depth. The SJB suffered from a similar doughy texture, with very little crisp at the bottom. These were not issues initially, but over time the decline in quality became noticeable. There is a part of me that hopes for a revival in a new location. While there is no shortage of soup dumplings in Houston, Shanghainese cuisine remains rare. ___________ (#1) 99 Ranch Market - Katy: https://www.yelp.com/biz/99-ranch-market-katy-2

The xiaolongbao were literally the best I've had in the Houston area. The wrapping was thin but didn't break when we picked up the dumplings, and the soup inside was flavorful.
