This is a cute little noodle and tea house that really hit the spot. I was craving noodles, and they definitely delivered. I ordered the Canton Seafood Stir Fry, which came with plenty of seafood and fresh-tasting noodles. The portion was generous, and everything came together really well. My husband ordered the Sweet & Sour Chicken, and he really enjoyed it too. It even came with rice, which feels like a nice bonus these days! Another pleasant surprise--they serve wine, too! I was looking for a decent Taiwanese beef noodle soup and decided to give this place a try. I ordered the Taiwanese beef noodle soup, which came with beef shank, baby bok choy, pickled mustard greens, and scallions. Unfortunately, I wasn't very impressed. The beef shank was tough and difficult to chew, and the broth didn't have the rich, balanced flavor that I expect from a good Taiwanese beef noodle soup. I wouldn't recommend ordering this dish. On the other hand, I also tried one of their house specials, the Jiangxi Stir-Fry. It featured rice noodles with beef flank, bell peppers, baby bok choy, and spicy chillies. Update: Thank you for your response and for taking this seriously. I only remember that the man was an older white male driving a white car, but unfortunately I didn't notice the make. A friend of mine was also stopped by the same person when driving through the alley before, so this doesn't seem to be an isolated incident. I had previously been told that he might be associated with the restaurant, so I appreciate the clarification and your willingness to look into it. Original comment: I've been a regular customer at Noodles Fresh for a long time, and I've often entered through the Kearney St. entrance to pick up food. Tonight, at around 8:45 PM, I was simply walking through the small alley next to the restaurant's back entrance when an older white man in a car, who appeared to be associated with the restaurant, called out to me and told me that it was a "private parking area" and that I should not walk through there. His tone was unnecessarily rude and confrontational, especially since I was just passing by and had done nothing wrong. If pedestrians are not allowed to use that area, there should be clear signage or some kind of barrier indicating that it is private property. If there is an open walkway with no clear notice, I don't understand why someone should be spoken to so rudely simply for walking through it. We are the only customer when we arrived. Very pleasant not overpowering jazz mood music plays. Our server has a very pleasant demeanor. We have Taiwan beef noodle soup. Nice and hot the way it should be. Perfect to my tongue textures of the beef cubes and egg noodles. The beef broth was amazing. At the end of our meal I was full. Too full to the point that I almost cried that I couldn't drink the last gulps but it was too small a portion to warrant taking home. Our Kung Pao chicken? Delicious. Chock full of chicken bites and delicious vegetables. Somehow the plentiful peanuts set my taste buds acraving. Wow wow Pao tasty. The only miss with this was that it was brought to us on a coldish serving plate. A common mistake. We didn't get to try this dish hot. We are now wanting our bill. Seems like long time wanting. They host community events like Autumn festival and Chinese New Year, tea ceremonies, host local musicians, support the local schools and community are a huge asset to the area. Most of all, they have delicious food. We love to eat in the restaurant, especially the secret VIP room for birthdays, but when we are busy, we get our favourites delivered to our home. Oddly, we've been going here at least once a month for the last 5+ years for lunch and we've always been able to take our two small, well-behaved dogs in carriers and without any objection from the staff. Suddenly, the less-than-friendly new waitperson wanted to see their paperwork certifying them as therapy dogs. When we told her we didn't have the paperwork with us, she left and asked the owner to come over. The owner essentially said that we needed to provide the paperwork in order to have them in the restaurant. This is the same owner who has come to our table more than once while we've had the dogs there and has said absolutely nothing about their presence being disallowed. She did say that we could stay and have lunch that day (the restaurant had only one other diner), but not to bring them in the future. Since that is entirely illogical, we decided to go elsewhere and not spend another $50 there. I'd like to make it clear that I don't operate in public with a sense of entitlement, but the fact that we had been permitted to bring them for so many years and without being told otherwise, makes this action all the more perplexing and irritating. Sadly, we are adding this to the list of restaurants that we will no longer be patronizing. I really enjoyed eating at this restaurant! There are lots of menu options. I ordered the hot and sour soup which was delicious and large enough to share with someone else or eat over multiple meals. I wish it was just a little bit spicier but, otherwise, it was cooked perfectly! Food here is also very affordable. The owner came by people's tables after dinner, which was really sweet. The dish was bland just like the other dishes above. we had to smother it in chili sauce to get any flavor infused in it. West Lake Dong Po pork belly - do not expect a dish as described in the menu (ginger and soy sauce braised pork belly). The sauce was basically a watered down version of the americanized, red sweet and sour pork flavoring. overall it was very disappointing. I had to apologies to my guest for the quality of food. To share, we got the spicy chao shou dumpling. These gave me more wonton vibes than dumplings. Ironically, the appetizer came last and the noodle dishes came first. Not a big deal. I really liked the Taiwan beef noodle soup. Good amount of tender beef and noodles. Soup was hearty. It's truly a comfort meal. My friend who got the beef tendon stew said it was also good but could've used a little more flavor/kick. The dumplings were overpriced and just ok. We re-purposed the chili oil it came in to add some spice to the noodles. The only times we interacted with our server was taking an order, dropping off the food and multiple attempts to wave down for the check. There were maybe only 4-5 other tables seated. Water was never refilled. My ?? moment was the fact that there were only 3 of us in the party and the guy put all the dishes at the end of the table and told me to push each dish towards the respective person. This place is great. Authentic Shanghaiese food perfectly prepared, great service and two locations though we find the Berkeley location more convenient. (They also have a newer location on southside near Cal). The menu is varied but avoids the everything but the kitchen sink lengthy and overly ambitious menus typical of so many Chinese restaurants. Instead, they have a one page menu with great but reasonable variety. Whether you are vegetarian or a meat eater, you can't miss. They also offer excellent tea options. Was craving noodles so I got take out from noodles fresh. They have a lot of variety on the menu from sweet to savory noodles, rice dishes, and appetizers. I tried to braised pork belly and two different noodle dishes. The braised pork belly was sweet and gingery, very juicy and yummy! I also thought the black bean noodles were flavorful and savory, loved the thick udon noodles it came with! The stir fried noodles were good but we asked for spicy and it didn't taste spicy at all. First time I came with my son we ordered a stew and mapo tofu food took longer than expected as there was only 1 waitress on the floor. 1 person in the kitchen. Got the check and it's was over $2 for a bowl of rice. The visit same thing but it was busy and this time there were 2 waitresses and 2 people in the kitchen We ordered mapo tofu and Kung pao chicken. The mapo tofu tastes was off. Nothing like before so asked waitress to tell chef to taste to make sure it was done right. It came back out with some green onions sprinkled on top. lol. Same off taste. Nothing like before. Not happy sent the dish back. Kung pao chicken had hardly any chicken and it was dry. They should call it Kung pao veggies with dry chicken sprinkled on top. lol Service was super slow. One of my daughters' favorite places close to our home in El Cerrito. Usually has parking in back entrance on San Pablo northbound or off Central one way street on Kearny southbound at the back. Owners are nice and wait staff are kind and hardworking. My girls not GF get the green onion pancakes. basically a crispy outside lightly chewy inside very thin. They get the Southeast Chicken soup with only chicken and noodles. The reason I don't like going here as a Facilities Manager is I always judge a restaurant on how clean the restroom. They haven't fixed the leaking men's urinal for what feels like years which is a no go for me and they use the same soup bottle since they opened. They do have a GF menu and do not use MSG. read more

This has got to be one of the best chinese restaurants in the Richmond/El Cerrito area! For starters the inside is beautifully designed and very spacious. The atmosphere is very calm and relaxing which makes for a great dining experience! The menu is pretty big so deciding between dishes can be pretty hard! I have come here a few times and can personally say the West-Lake Dongpo pork belly rice plate is amazing! The Hunan hot & sour is also pretty good and very filling! Very accommodating to dietary restrictions (vegan, gluten-free). They use corn oil and filtered water. We chose the following: -Taiwan Beef: comforting noodle soup, the beef was super tender and the broth was tasty. Only wish the noodles were hand-pulled. Probably one of their most popular dishes. -Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings: comes with 5 crispy flavorful portions -Sichuan Chau Shou dumplings: house-made pork, shrimp, fish, eggs and ginger in a flavorful savory tangy spicy sauce. Get this! -Garlic Prawns: cooked well with fresh garlic, snow peas, bell peppers and onions. -Green Tea: served in a fancy teapot and was pretty strong. I swapped out the noodles for the ramen kind since I was skeptical about the GF one. I would've liked more chicken as it was extremely noodle heavy. I appreciated the little containers of soy sauce and chili sauce to customize the flavor but it creates a lot of plastic waste which is terrible for the environment. First, this is a family-owned [Chinese wife & Caucasian husband], restaurant, and they very clearly *care* about both their guests and the quality of the food they serve, which is both authentic and delicious. The menu consists of "greatest hits" from many different regions of China, and yet the chef seems to have mastered them all, despite the enormous range of cooking techniques, ingredients, and spices involved. Bravo, Chef! In stark contrast to most authentic Chinese restaurants, here the lighting and ambience are very relaxing and pleasant---no harsh, bright-white, operating-room LEDs here! :-) When I complimented the owner on this point, she instantly beamed and told me that she herself had designed every aspect of the restaurant, including the warm lighting! She was genuinely friendly and welcoming from the moment we entered. I should also note that the restaurant is impeccably clean, again in stark contract to many other authentic Chinese restaurants. TOP DISHES FROM TONIGHT'S DINNER: 1) Cold spicy cabbage--balanced, rich, mildly spicy sauce on fresh and crunchy cabbage. Great! 2) Cold Nanjing salted duck, which is *very* hard to find! No beauty to look at, but just shut your eyes and you will be rewarded with a uniquely delicious new take on duck! 3) Xinjiang lamb bowl: wonderfully light, delicate, and pure-flavoured broth with a hint of sweetness from the goji berries. 4) Xinjiang cumin lamb: unusually large pieces of lamb (not overcooked!) instead of the usual thin slices, with intense and delicious spicing. This place is dope! Just look at this Taiwan Noodle dish. Ramen noodles and a light and deeply, beefy flavored broth with an almost consommé clarity. There may be star anise in the broth and the aromatic vegetables (mirepoix) may have been caramelized somewhat. I like how it was delivered because it was easy to make sure the soup was balanced and well presented in one container were the noodles topped with perfectly cooked, truly baby, baby, bok choy, and very tasty, finely diced pickled vegetables resting on the top. In the second container was the soup broth with the beef. Very tender and delicious. I like it so much. I ordered it less than two weeks later for delivery again. Just as delicious as the first time! Came here for dinner a while back for dinner with my sister. We arrived and parked in the back (there was plenty of parking available - the parking lot in the back of the restaurant was convenient considering that it is along San Pablo Ave., which is typically busy with limited street parking. When we entered the restaurant, it was nice to see that the place was spacious and clean. Lighting was a bit dim, but we were seated pretty fast. I was excited to try the Dandan noodles and Taiwan Beef Soup since they are some of my favorite dishes (also because the person I used to get this homemade from moved out of California, so I was looking for a nearby place to find the dishes instead of traveling over 30 minutes to get some), and my sister also threw in some dumplings to try. The Dandan noodles weren't as spicy as I thought they would be; it was quite underwhelming to be honest (I'd say a 3/5 stars at best). The beef noodle soup was light and brothy, but had a bland flavor to it compared to the homemade ones I loved or other restaurants I've had it at (also 3/5 stars). Dumplings were pretty good - I think it was made well and had a good texture (3.5/5). I was kind of sad since that the food was just okay, especially after seeing so many good ratings. Dishes here are a bit more pricier than other places. I wouldn't say this is my go to place, but if someone offered to take me out and pay for dinner here, I wouldn't contest it. read more
