I'm obsessed been going here for dimsum regularly 10 years and haven't been to a better Cantonese restaurant since. Seating is fast and complimentary hot tea while you wait for food. Most importantly the food has no msg and many options on the menu. My favs are 1. Shui mai 2. Pan chive dumplings. It's right outside the ranch 99 mall so you hangout or grocery shop afterwards too

A place to bring your family or a big group gathering. I enjoy their salt and pepper pork chops, walnut shrimp, Hong Kong milk tea. It's a bit pricey but the food is good so it's worth it. We only ate inside 3 times, and service was ok. There's usually not much workers. Parking has been easy lately sometimes it's super packed here cause it's shared with the other stores like Ranch 99, happy lemon etc. Overall, if I'm not eating here, I stop by to get my ice Hong Kong milk tea.

Been here a couple times and have always enjoyed each experience. The portions are huge, you could feel a whole family for a good price. We've gotten the duck each time because it's just that good. The restaurant is large inside and there's fish tanks so I assume the ingredients are very fresh. Service is straightforward, order from the sever and your food comes out at whatever pace. Hot tea is always at the table.

Been coming here for more than 2 decades and the food is still legit. There's one guy ( server ) that truly goes above and beyond every visit. He always has a genuine smile, is incredibly kind, and makes everyone feel welcome. No matter how busy it gets, he stays attentive and professional. With over 20 years at this restaurant, his experience really shows -- and it's a big reason we keep coming back. The restaurant is lucky to have him! Authentic Cantonese dishes. My favorite is the炸醬麵。 Authentic Cantonese thin egg noodle with a delicious pork and mushroom meat sauce. Huge portions as well. One dish lasts me two to three days. The BBQ and roasted duck is a must- try! I've tried just about everything on the menu, and honestly, it's all delicious. You really can't go wrong -- it just comes down to your personal preferences and what you're in the mood for. Everything is well-prepared and consistently good. Daimo has been around for decades, and for good reason. The food is consistently delicious, and the service is just as great. It's the kind of place you can always rely on -- everything is well-prepared, flavorful, and satisfying. The staff is friendly, attentive, and makes you feel welcome every time. Longevity like this doesn't happen by accident, and Daimo truly deserves its reputation. Their hot chilli oil is ONE OF A KIND. I love it so much. Must-try!

Daimo has been here forever, but in dire need of a renovation. Food is pretty good and they open early for dim sum and congee. We ordered the following: - fish and thousand year old egg congee was very flavorful and delicious. Work order again - bbq pork noodles with bok choy - just ok and the bbq pork was half fat - steamed bbq pork buns - normal - shrimp rice noodle - good, but noodles were over steamed Overall food was decent since there's not a lot of dim sum locally, but a bit expensive. Also, the restaurant is more run down than I remembered. When we came in Sunday morning for breakfast, they were still mopping the floors and cleaning the restrooms. The floors were wet and slippery and there were carts of dirty dishes lining the wall to the bathroom.

The hong kong milk tea is bomb!

I love you Daimo because you have the best Wontons and bbq pork is delicious and it's me and my families favorite.

Amazing ? Understatement. By far the best Chinese food I have had in a very long time. Everything was delicious and fresh. The pork belly is tender and super seasoned. The deep fried prawns and pork chops were a 10/10. The menu is vast so there's much to try next time. The service was excellent. Yen was super nice. She didn't think I'd like the pork belly but I knew I would and sure did! You can this place has been around for 20+ years but it's still clean. They have the fresh tanks in the back for crab, trout and I think the other is sea bass. I tried not to look too long since the sea bass tank has some big floating unalive fish in it. Overall, a 9/10- will definitely be back

Our full meal with a coke and tea $40.

June 3 2025 We are still coming back after all these years. Hong Kong style crispy chow mein and deep fried tofu. Both served piping hot. Service is consistently pretty good and they have many flavorful food items. These days too many resturaunts close between lunch and dinner but not Daimo. They are always there and ready to serve.

It's been a while since I've had dinner here and it is still as good as I remember! Dinner was so good tonight and excellent service as usual. Not sure what's up with the negative reviews, but I have been eating here for years and the food is still consistently good and tasty. We always order a variety of different main dishes and they are fresh and taste good. Generous portions.

    Yummy!

Came here for New Year's Eve dinner with the parents. Everything we ordered was super yummy! Fish maw soup - piping hot and they even added cilantro when I asked! There was also snow crab in the soup which was delicious. Usually when there is crab in this soup I find it super fishy but at Daimo they nailed it! Lobsters x 2 w/ ginger and scallions - $55 what a bargain. Steamed whole fish - steamed to perfection, not over, not under. Haven't had fish so perfectly steamed in a long time. Steamed surf clam - yummy, and the seasoning was perfect. Steamed yellow chicken - a little salty but very delicious and meat had a good mouthfeel. Sautéed pea shoots w garlic - gotta have the veggies! They gave us a humongous plate!! Soy sauce noodles - again, another huge plate, packed with yellow chive, bean sprouts, and scallions. They also added shiitake mushroom which was new for me, but hey, was yummy an no complaints there! Most of all, our server Amanda, was the nicest lady I ever met at a Chinese restaurant. She made the whole experience a really lovely memory I'll always remember. Thank you Amanda! All the workers there were cheerful, making jokes, friendly, and attentive. Thank you Daimo! Will def be back soon!

Do they serve dim sum at dinner or only brunch and lunch?

We serve dim sum all day from 9am to 11:30pm

Is Daimo permanently closed? I called several time between 8pm - 10 pm, nobody answered. Drove by at a bit past 10 pm...totally dark.

I just went to have dinner with friends tonight. the restaurant did not have enough employees only two waiters, one cashier, three cooks. Shortage of employees problems are all industries

I was worried it might be one of those gimmicky spots with overpriced, low-quality food, but I was totally wrong. Upon entering, you can tell this is the kind of restaurant where people host weddings, birthdays, and special events. They even have private rooms you can book with karaoke! They also showcase their crabs and lobsters in tanks at the front, which looked incredibly large and fresh. Similar to another reviewer's comment, there wasn't a hostess available when we walked in, but someone came by quickly and seated us after only a couple of minutes. We were so happy to be seated right by the window, though honestly, most perimeter seats seem to have a great view. We enjoyed our meal as the sun set, and I'd highly recommend arriving or making a reservation about an hour before sunset to fully enjoy the vibe. They have a massive menu with plenty of traditional Southern-style Chinese dishes and dim sum options, so it took us about 10 minutes to finally decide what to order. I'll start with the mentaiko seafood fried rice, which was something I hadn't tried before, but I love anything mentaiko. The fried rice came out as a generous family-style portion. It wasn't bad, but I do think it could have used more seasoning - like a lot more seasoning. More mentaiko, more seafood, and stronger salty-savory flavors would have done the dish justice. As is, it's probably a good option if you're sharing with a young child. The crab crystal dumplings were a nice step up from traditional har gow, which I enjoyed. The salt and pepper fried tofu was exactly what I was hoping for: crunchy and salty on the outside, light on the inside, and not too filling. The squid and green beans from the specials menu were a bit of a gamble, but they turned out delicious. I'd definitely order that dish again. We also noticed they have a weekly specials menu that changes every day, and we're already planning to come back--specifically on Thursday because that menu looks delicious. Overall, Hong Kong East Ocean exceeded my expectations. The ambience and view were breathtaking, the service was efficient, and the food was delicious. I know some people mentioned the pricing being high, but I actually thought it was very reasonable for what it is. Compared to Chinese restaurants in downtown Berkeley, you're paying about the same, but the food is better and the view is unmatched.

It's actually a popular, higher-end Chinese restaurant in downtown Berkeley, and judging by the number of people waiting to be seated on a weekend only 30 minutes after opening, it clearly does very well. One note: I often see long weekend lines forming even before opening, so I'd definitely recommend making a reservation or arriving early. We came here with one thing in mind: Peking duck. It was prepared beautifully, with the exact nostalgic flavor and crispy skin I was hoping for. I also loved the way they presented the thin pancakes--half-folded and slightly overlapping each other--so you didn't have to worry about peeling each layer apart and accidentally ripping them. The dipping sauce and green onions were provided on the side, though I do wish they included thinly sliced cucumber to complete the experience. My husband also ordered the fish, which turned out soft, delicate, and delicious. It was a nice complement to the duck and rounded out the meal really well. My only real critique of Great China is the pricing. You're definitely paying a premium here, but the food does taste authentic and well-executed. Given the limited competition in the area, I can see why it feels justifiable if you live nearby. That said, it may not be as worth the splurge for people who already have easy access to more traditional, old-school Chinese restaurants.
