I'm going to update my review since recent visits haven't been great. When the pandemic started in March 2020, I still tried to go here but no one ever wore a mask even when it was legally required. Then once restrictions eased in 2021 I tried to return and call in an order for my usual saves - Dosa and Chole + Bhature. The guy on the phone is like "we don't sell that". Wait huh?? "We don't sell South Indian food." He was super rude, and wrong as hell. All I can assume is a different family bought it but didn't change the name of the store. This is definitely one of the best, if not the best, for true, traditional, Indian food. It is not only a great place to eat, but a great place to pick up all of your Indian food making supplies and ingredients. You can order up front and have a seat in the back to wait for your order and they will bring it you. There are a ton of vegetarian options and the spices are incredible! If you're not used to spicy food or flavors, make sure to mention it and they will help you pick something milder. The puffy bread is awesome, and so are the lassis, which are basically fruit smoothies. read more

Expect LOTS of spices and ingredients in this store. My husband and I picked up cans of jackfruit and some chutneys for home. We also ordered the pakora, which was tasty, and ate in the small room adjacent to the store. The food did take a bit to come out, so I would not recommend ordering food if you are short on time. read more

This is real authentic Indian food. It's located in a strip mall at Emerson Ave and Stop 11, inside of an Indian Market. There are tables in the back of the market to dine in or you can order to go. Everything is vegetarian and there are no descriptions on the menu, so you either have to ask, google it, or already know what the menu items are. I went in not knowing what any of the items were, so I talked to the clerk and told him what I like and don't like and could he help me decide. I went with the Chole Bhature, which is a chick pea soup with puffed bread. Even though the soup portion was very small, it was very filling. I also ordered a Mango Lassi to drink, which was delicious. It's like a mango smoothie. I would definitely recommend dining here, especially if you're looking for authentic Indian cuisine. read more

This store, though not a big one, caters to grocery as well as serves as a restaurant - a dual amenity indeed. Off and on we go there to buy our requirements of Indian/Pakistani foodstuffs and household supplies. We found its customer service good and the staff cooperative. I love this place! I haven't been able to find yellow split peas (Chana Dal) in commercial grocery stores, so here I am. The variety of dried beans was awesome! I was also impressed with the selection & prices of the spices. I also got some lunch carry out. I ordered the Chana masala, dal makhani, parantha with onion, and the garlic naan. Everything was SO flavorful. I was especially in love with the dal makhani. That is my new favorite Indian dish!! It did take about 15 minutes to wait since the naan and parantha were cooked fresh. Next time I know to call ahead. While I waited, I was given a free cup of chai. How thoughtful! It was so delicious! Creamy and sweet. There is a small amount of fresh produce available that felt more affordable than Kroger (50¢ for bell peppers!). I can't wait to return to this spot and try more dishes. read more

I haven't sampled the food, yet, but the proprietor stayed open late specifically to let me shop -- and the place is spice heaven. I've had the hardest time getting good Indian spices! Green cardamom pods, fenugreek leaves, black mustard seeds, garam masala, spicy curry... I went primarily for the food although there is a market. This is a fairly new store which is exciting. The food menu (vegetarian) is on the wall in the market. You also order in the area. The one difficulty is they don't have descriptions of the menu items for those not familiar. The staff were very helpful in making a food choice. We ordered and paid for or food I the market and walked across to the separate restaurant seating area. The food com s out fresh to order in styrofoam or plastic. They have a complimentary water machine in the restaurant area. Overall the food was amazing. I especially enjoyed the homemade garlic naan. The food was priced affordable for quantity. Some places you just can't wait to review. Ever since I heard about this place, my yelper feet were telling me to go here.. This is an Indian grocery store and Kitchen. Let's begin. It's been only 2 months since they opened. It's fairly new. The store is well lit and the kitchen is not in the back or looks sketch at all. The grocery store is on one side and the seating area is on the right behind the billing. What I liked about this arrangement was that it was very separate and seemed more private than the ones I have been to. The ongoing shoppers won't be looking at you eating while moving from.one aisle to the other. There are a few tables set up for group of 4 or two on the other side. Talking about the grocery shopping experience, one thing I think they could do better is in the moving space between the aisles. I posted a picture. With a shopping cart in there, it's kind of tight and you risk bumping things off the shelf. Hence I dock one star off. In terms of variety, they have a lot going on. First store where I found jack fruit. Kudos. Then they have both varieties of popular ramen noodles- Top Ramen, Maggi Noodles. Their spice collection is good too and is comparable to other grocery stores as well. Their frozen section has similar variety- idlis dosas, parathas(stuffed flat breads), frozen veggies etc. Plenty going on. One thing I felt that some veggies/fruits were priced slightly higher. Thai Guava was almost $5 a pound. I guess exotic fruits are expensive everywhere. Not too bad I guess. Coming to the menu and taste of food. We ordered 3 masala dosas. I made the mistake of take out in this freezing weather, which made the crispy dosa a little soggy, by the time I got home. For those who don't know what a dosa is-rice flour crepe, salted. It came with 3 sambhars- spicy lentil soup with veggies, 6 chutneys. What I liked about them was that they actually gave sambhar separately for all three parties and not stuff it up in 1. Chutneys were a tad bit spicy but nothing too adventurous for someone who likes to indulge in flavor. Dosas were decent, their mashed potato stuffing didn't really have a lot of spice other than salt. All in all food experience was good. I think the next time I am here I am going to do a dine in. I wanted to try Southern Indian food today because none of the other places in the south side offer it on their menus. My next binge eat session will include the "Thali". It's very reasonably priced. Look forward to it. Plenty of parking available and there is a lot more in the area. The outside could have more lighting I guess. I am giving 4 stars..why you ask, I had a great 1st shopping experience, the owners were very nice and recommended food options to try from their menu. Explained how their kitchen is managed too. Small Indian grocery but they pack a lot in to the limited space. The workers are nice and willing to help out and answer questions. Good selection of spices, lentils, grains, flours and a small produce section. The real gem here, however, is the restaurant/kitchen. It's nothing fancy but the taste and quality make up for that. They serve up dosas, a delicious vegetarian Punjabi curry, rajma curry, chole, bhatura, paranthas, samosas, pakoras and drinks like chai tea and lassis. This is the kind of place that excites me! Hole-in-the-wall small international businesses. This is a small Indian market with a kitchen area, which offers a few tables and chairs for you to eat or you can get it to go. It is extremely casual and is not meant to be or is not trying to be a stylish Indian restaurant. No, this is a tiny market with tables and chairs basking under the warmth of fluorescent lighting. One wall is lined with boxes or bags of various Indian staples like basmati rice. There is no menu, but in the market portion, there is a white board above the cash register with menu options. You order here. If you don't know the food items, be prepared to look them up on any device you have handy because of possible communication obstacles. There is no spice level options, and likely no substitutions: they are not designed with the American palate in mind but likely the Indian community so keep all of this in mind. The fact that they refer to this portion as a "kitchen" and not restaurant is both telling and appropriate. You are in someone's kitchen, and you don't typically make these sorts of demands. So why 5 stars? Well, despite the fact that this isn't a restaurant that many of us are accustomed to (this is not an issue for me, but I know it is for many)the food is really good! Think street food but in a small kitchen. I had a samosa and a Dahl, and both were delicious! Be warned: what I ate definitely leaned on the spicy side. This would be an ideal spot for a lunch, I think. I wouldn't suggest it for a date night. Would I recommend them? If you like Indian, Absolutely! BUT only to those who are comfortable with ordering street food in another country. Again, I love these sorts of places, but I also feel comfortable because I've worked with adult ESL students for over a decade and often find myself being the only native English speaker with American dialect in a room( FYI, Most Indians speak English fluently but the dialect and, of course, accent is different so it's less about the language and more about these that make communication an obstacle for some.)
