I recently fell in love with the heatwave pattern in the linen garden suit. Brands like Nooworks are ordinarily way, way out of my budget but I wanted to celebrate a special accomplishment with a special one-time purchase. They were out of my size, XL, and said that they didn't have anymore of this fabric so they would not be restocking it. I thought I'd lucked out when an XL became available due to a return. I immediately ordered it. Fast forward, it is as beautiful as I'd imagined. However, it came with a super strong perfume fragrance all over it. I cannot tolerate fragrances due to migraines and other chronic illness conditions. Additionally, there were a few very minor snags in the fabric. Both of these issues suggest that the item was worn, returned, and then sold to me at full price. To the credit of Nooworks' customer service they offered me the choice of a free return (usually there is a $10 fee) or 10% off. I love the jumpsuit so much and there are no others available in my size , so I took the 10% refund. Now I've thoroughly hand washed twice and the fragrance is less prominent but still strong. I recognize that Nooworks made a concerted effort to right the situation and it was my decision to keep the item. At the same time, I believe they should have been more cautious about inspecting the item and cleaning it before sending it out. I was told they can't accept a return now that I've washed it, which I understand. It is super disappointing that better care wasn't taken in the first place, though, since I may not be able to wear it if I cannot get the fragrance out. I'd initially ordered a few other items to try that came in a separate package and one of the items also had a very strong perfume odor. I get this doesn't bother many people but when I buy clothing new, especially at a premium, I expect it to be free of fragrances. It's one of the reasons I spend more for new items when I'd rather buy thrift, resale, etc. Long story short is to check your items thoroughly upon receipt. If you're sensitive to fragrances, you might want to pass on purchasing from this company. read more

I love the aesthetic of their accessories and prints. The staff was so helpful and friendly as I had questions about sizing, and I got to try on a bunch of different pants for fit. I'm so glad they have an in-person location to see and try on clothes without dealing with online returns and hassle. I love love their collaboration and empowerment with artists, and the rotating approach to constantly releasing new items and prints/collabs. read more

Love that Nooworks is a women owned business. Their clothes are so chic and quirky, I love! They also have cute stickers available to purchase. I ended up getting the linen catalina pant "roll out" pattern, size xs. The pants fit so well! (I'm like 5'2.) I had a slight issue, where I felt I wasn't welcomed in the store. This happened during my first visit. I always knew about their clothes online, saved items I wanted to get. During my visit, I didn't get like a "welcome in" or a "hello". Like any [friendly] recognition would've been nice. Only when I asked to get a fitting room, (which also took a long while to wait), did I get any sort of recognition. I even tried to get a little friendly banter at the register, but the interaction felt awkward. I'm not sure if they felt too busy. I don't know. It's not such big store where you couldn't miss anyone. Maybe another visit would be a better experience. Who knows... I think I would stay with online ordering for now. read more

I am absolutely obsessed with their clothing and wish I could own everything that they make. This is a women-owned, women-ran shop in California with unique, colorful, expressive clothing made for many body types xs-3x. Firstly I want to say that I have been following Nooworks for awhile and have been saving to purchase a few items. Their advertising and general vibes are so dope and I was so so excited to finally purchase a jumpsuit and work dress -- the patterns, styling, and story of this brand/company are all so top tier. When my items (totaling $350) arrived I left work to wiggle my fat body into them. As I took them out of the packaging and saw the patterns my heart fluttered a bit because they were so fantastic and at the sight of them I knew they wouldn't fit. I tried them on anyway and I was heartbroken when both weren't remotely close to fitting. I share because the brand advertises as size inclusive (while being very financially challenging) has some room to grow. As someone who is Fat and a very normative "small" Fat, my body is not included. A moment that was originally so full of excitement (and lots of American USD) sent me into a bit of tailspin about how my body is too big for the big girl brands. I left a short note in my return package and I am hopeful that one day they'll expand their sizing. read more

I (genderqueer but mostly male presenting) came into the store with my partner and it definitely felt like we were unwelcome here from the staff. I understand that this store is for women*, but it was a little bit of a let down to know that lgbt indentities are only validated by the store staff if you pass :( Bought a really cute buttoned shirt and upon the first usage it immdiately started threading. If it's not online-- it's probably here at their store. I love Nooworks, and find their bright prints and clothes to be spectacular. They are starting to expand their sizing range; which I really appreciate, and there are more sizes (up to 3 or 4XL that I saw) in store than available online. The salesperson the day I went there was extremely helpful and started a dressing room for me, and was helpful the entire time. Yes, the clothing is pricey but they are a small business, made locally and is quality. When they have their semi-annual sale, I would definitely check it out because I got the circle dress in an out-of-stock print (originally $110) for around $20 bucks, I believe. That's... unheard of discount. I recommend going in person to see the wide variety that they carry! Some of the prints in person are not available online. read more

The other day, my boss and I were talking about how people shop at the same stores and end up with the same clothes. Just after we had that discussion, I saw a colleague wearing a skirt exactly like a dress I own. Oh dear. Enter Nooworks. This Mission shop carries such gorgeous clothes, and it's super terrific that artists design the fabric that is printed, cut, and sewn into flattering and stylish tops and dresses and leggings. And it's all done in California! The colors and patterns are so vibrant, unique, and cheerful. I love the attention to detail in the clothes: pockets in dresses, covering up bra straps, zippers that end right where it's hard to continue zipping up unless you're an octopus, etc. The dresses are kinda expensive for me but I was okay with splurging for a frock that was well-constructed and just plain rad. My Nooworks top and dress have been picking up the compliments right and left. Love this place! read more

I received my Catalina linen pants in the "Party Time" print. Fast shipping. (But average transit of 5 days via USPS from CA to NJ). Saved for 2 months 2 get them because they were expensive, for me, at $98.00. Love the print. Looking forward to wearing them. However I will never purchase from Nooworks again. These cropped pants cost $98.00 plus approximately $10.00 for shipping as there is no free shipping option. For $100 I expected the craftsmanship to be impeccable with no missed or loose stitching. I could have sewn my own pants for $30.00 but I'm too lazy 2 pull out my sewing machine. I get it...woman owned company, made in the U.S., blah blah blah. I would return them but I'd have to pay to ship back. read more

I love this store. The clothing they sell is beautiful, unique, and flattering to lots of different body types. The dress I bought there looks and feels like it was made just for me. I have seen some reviews that the clothing there is pricey. The price for a dress there is about $140, which is a stretch for my budget, but it's really worth it when you consider that you're getting a beautiful, quality garment made locally by someone who is probably paid a fair wage. I love this shop. I will be back. The owner Jennifer was there the night of my birthday when I (at the very last minute) dropped by for the first time to find my b-day going out-on-the-town dress. She was so helpful in sorting through the best shapes & colors for me which was great since I didn't have much time. She even gave me a hand zipping up. The clothes are all locally designed, and I think they are sewn in Oakland from what I remember. There were lots of very flattering shapes including curvy, and the sizes were a good range too. The fabrics where of nice thick forgiving quality and showed a good range of vibrant hues to classy neutrals. The patterns were mostly geometric graphics (maybe with a western flair?). Make sure you check out the website to see how the dresses & clothes look on. The pics will give you great ideas and inspiration as to how to accessorize (like high boots with the dresses.) I have to admit, since moving to San Francisco last March, I have been a bit underwhelmed by the boutique offerings I have found. Ambiance, the arguable Queen of the SF boutique Scene, has great variety, but lacks the more edgy, LA, casual, stuff that I was used to in Sacramento at Sugar Shack and Krazy Mary's. Yesterday, after grabbing some coffee at Four Barrels, I stumbled upon Nooworks and have found my new favorite boutique. It is almost like someone designed a store just for me: I LOVE wrap dresses and screen prints, and this place had both! Wrap dresses are the best items to have in your closet because whether you are 10 pounds underweight, or 50 pounds over, they make all women look feminine, curvy and gorgeous! All of their stuff is made in Oakland, looks very unique, has great patterns and fits beautifully. I foresee a lot of money being spent here. read more

I've built up quite a collection of Nooworks gear, and have become friendly enough with several of the staff members that they recognize me now when I walk in. This makes me happy - I like supporting local businesses, and also enjoy breaking down some of that urban anonymity. I've also learned a few new things: - They print a new cat pattern every season. Awesome. I have several instances of the jungle cats from this summer, and now a couple of pieces with this season's kittens. - At least some (possibly all) of the patterns are created specifically for Nooworks. I love this - it's fashion + art, and I'm pretty unlikely to run into anyone else wearing the same dress that I am. - In my last review, I stated that I fit into smaller sizes than usual... actually it's kind of all over the map. It seems to depend on the fabric, and the cut. - I'm quite fond of their leggings! They're well-made, using interesting fabrics. They work well under dresses and such, and if I wear a tank top underneath it's a seamless transition to yoga class. Kitten leggings at yoga FTW, amirite? Verdict: I heart Nooworks. If you appreciate quirky prints and unique, limited run styles, I strongly urge you to drop in as well. read more

The owner Jennifer D'Angelo is not only a genuine sweetheart, but she's incredibly talented. Check out her work! What is better for a mother-daughter relationship than matching outfits? I know: super adorable psychedelic matching outfits! That's what we got at Nooworks, where the spectacular, creative prints come in a range of adult *AND* kid dress styles. My daughter got an incredibly cute alligator-meets-choo-choo-train dress, and I got the same print in a very nicely cut T-shirt. The downside: sizing. Even though the adult dresses come in a range of styles and I'm a size 10/12 in most stores, I've had a very very hard time fitting into even the largest dresses at Nooworks. And their kid sizes cut off at age 8, so the only reason that my nearly 12-year-old was able to find a dress is that she's really tiny. So if you are a funky, pocket-sized mom with a funky, pocket-sized daughter, then this place is heaven. Otherwise, don't let yourself fall TOO in love with the fab print dresses until you try a few styles -- because you may find that the only things that fit are the leggings and scarves. read more

Such an amazing new store location! I am so happy with the level of customer service now the Gwen Lutz is now working and Managing this store. Not only is Gwen the epitome of fashion and style, she really knows what she is doing when it comes to helping anyone (body type) shop in a boutique enviroment. Nooworks has the best customer service! Whenever I go into the shop, the very lovely sales persons help me pick out styles, designs, and sizes. Always have a smile. I went in last week when the shop was in the middle of a huge sale. This did not make a difference in the customer service. Still very friendly, accommodating. Their dresses are beautiful. Best thing about them is that they can go from casual, work, to cocktails. They are of such fabulous, classic designs. The fabric is usually cotton with a blend. Good details on all the patterns. Many of the dresses have pockets sewn into them. This is so great. Whenever I wear any of the dresses bought from Nooworks, I get compliments galore. I was randomly walking around in the Mission (actually on my way to Four Barrel, just a couple stores down), and I saw a unicorn dress in the window and had to go in. It was literally a unicorn dress because it had unicorns on it, but also a unicorn in the sense that it fit perfectly and is a unique, locally crafted piece. They get artists (local and other) to contribute textile designs, and it also appears that sometimes the artists visit the store as well. The staff was working hard, gearing up for their semi-annual sale starting the following day, but they said I could get in on the action today and were happy to let me do so. They were helpful, started a dressing room for me, asked if I needed any swaps as I tried things on, and told me a little bit more about the store. But weren't sales-y or phony in the process. As for the clothes, I am obsessed with dresses (they have pockets!) and it was hard to not want to buy everything off the racks! They have probably 10-20 textile designs that are sewed into a handful of flattering cuts; i.e., you can get the same dress cut but of all different designs or the same fabric but different cuts. They also have shirts, leggings, kids' clothing, jewelry, and accessories. The sizes are XS-XL and seem true to fit and are constant between pieces. The fabric is high quality versus something that's going to rip in the wash or ball up after a couple wears. I went during their semi-annual sale, so they had $20-$80 racks and a 20% off rack, but "normal-priced" dresses were $100+ so come prepared. I will definitely come back when I need to treat myself or just want to see some clothing art! read more

This boutique is awesome. I have some curves which makes finding dresses that fit them impossible but the way they cut their dresses is perfection. Just enough cleavage and just enough leg. Many dresses with pockets which makes them perf for my work and play. The fabrics are made in Los Angeles and sewn in oaktown so when you're dropping dollars knowing your supporting local peeps lessons the blow. I always check out their sale racks in the dressing room area for sweet deals. read more

hipster threads win! This is after one foray inside of this place after window-shopping leering several times after-hours. This small stretch of Four Barrel Coffee-influenced hipsterville has spawned about 4 unique shops consecutively located on this strip of Valencia, and me and my BF have consistently gravitated most strongly towards Nooworks because....the dresses are just so danged *cute*! I at last tried a few on last weekend and they were adorable, reasonably priced, locally designed and colorfully supplemented by the backstory provided by (sadly I'm forgetting her name) woman in the shop who had some role producing them (and sadly I was more focused on how they looked on me vs. grasping the manufacturing details). She was nonetheless super friendly, always offering to be on hand to do the zipping & unzipping. Even though we passed on purchasing, this was primarily a reflection of our un-flushness rather than how compelling the sale would have been. I love this store! I randomly found it while longboarding around the Mission. I bought the adult jumper with the deep v in the front. It is super comfy!! And with the magic of breast tape you can get some really great cleavage.The jumper I got has the purple cheetah print. Definitely the coolest print they currently have. I'm going to be coming back to check out more of their prints as they get new ones. I really wish they sold male button up shirts in their prints!! It would be a super cool gift for my male friends. Welcome to the neighborhood awesome little store! This place is SUPER cool and aside from their quirky hours, i love them. They make almost everything onsite at the workshop next door, which makes you appreciate their clothes even more. While most of the dresses there aren't really my style, i LOVE the tshirts. They are soft and have really great graphics on them. They also make cool little bags and baby clothes if you're into babies. The girl who works there is also really friendly and answered all of my annoying questions about their shop. I'd go back for sure. There clothing is a little pricey but you pay for what you get. All their prints are submitted by local artists and they make their clothes locally as well. The fabric they use feels a lot sturdier than something you would find at a department store. They were also really nice about getting me the sizes I needed when I was trying on items.
