I love that they are so thorough in their vetting process to weed out anyone who doesn't have the proper environment or skill for a bully breed. Very disappointed with communication and inappropriate action of whoever is running their social media's. Hopefully someone who actually cares will see this. After messaging, they blocked me... so the message was just to harass me, not for any benefit of the animals. Update: By the look of how many comments and pictures saying the same thing about the company and owner, I can assure you it's a "you" problem. Furthermore anyone that is getting a fraudulent feeling about your company the way I am can report it online to the California Attorney General for a AG investigation, from reading others "negative" comments as you would say, it seems you are only interested in helping dogs that you can middle man for (you not actually having a location) and make a profit from. read more

I'm not sure if this lady is just an angry person in life or what. She literally called me to dog shame me. That was the entire purpose of her phone call. Extremely aggressive tone from the get go. She seemed to get more frustrated as I wasn't matching her energy over the phone. You can tell that she is angry about the cycle and situation of dogs in our community. (I get it) But that doesn't give you the right to call people who inquire about your "rescue" and harass them. I never took on a dog, and would not in my current situation. Instead, my mother had a stroke and is no longer able to walk. She had a pit mix. As a family we are trying to navigate this new reality and I was tasked with dog placement. She should honestly take down her website. Clearly it triggers her mental health anytime someone reaches out. She doesn't take on surrenders without a $5000 donation. Apparently she has 12 dogs in her home. ‍ Anywho, hope you get the help you need. Maybe try putting all that energy into making a positive change rather than calling everyone who emails you and yelling at them. Good luck on your quest. read more

We adopted our dog from this rescue almost 7 years ago and the horrible experience still feels as fresh as yesterday. Leslie was unprofessional, rude and even went as far as to say that she hoped the dog we adopted would end up back in a shelter so she could take him back (she refused to let us change the contact information on his chip). Why would she adopt a dog out only to wish for him to end up in a shelter? I would never recommend this organization. read more

We adopted our good boy Meatloaf from NBBR and have also fostered for them (Tofu!). Anna is fast and supportive in responses, clear on expectations and realities, and super committed to dog safety and dog success. That means all dogs involved and all humans, too! We also know a really fabulous dog rescue person who works closely with NBBR and that helped us to trust them and get involved, ourselves. But Leslie and Anna are rad no matter how one gets connected to them. I rarely go out of my way to post of review but this has been a terrible experience and I am still trying to understand the response that I've received from this company. DO NOT WORK WITH THIS ORGANIZATION They stated that we could not adopt a frenchie because our toddler might fall on him. I would totally understand if this pup did not like children, or if there were concerns about stairs, getting up and down from furniture but this just felt like they didn't want us to have the pup. I might be more prone to trip over the pup with the height difference - that would make more sense to me. Sharing what I shared with the agency directly: Thank you for your response. I find it concerning that Eleanor was specifically advertised as being good with children, yet you're denying our application because we have a child. This seems contradictory and misleading to prospective adopters. Your concern about "what if your child falls on the dog" appears arbitrary without any supporting examples or incidents. By this logic, wouldn't adult owners pose similar risks? We could trip over the dog, and given the height difference, potentially cause more harm. Additionally, if Eleanor currently lives with other dogs who engage in play and roughhousing, the inconsistency in your risk assessment is puzzling. What's most disappointing is that our extensive experience with French Bulldogs was apparently not considered. We've demonstrated exceptional care for our previous Frenchie, including: -Fresh food diet and premium care - Never crating or leaving her outside - Carrying her up and down stairs to protect her spine - Providing acupuncture for arthritis - Understanding frenchie care with anti fungal shampoo and wipes - Comprehensive cancer care through her diagnosis We approached your rescue organization hoping to provide another dog with the same level of devoted care. When we first applied for a dog, they came out to do a site visit on our home and meet us to ensure we would make good dog parents. After meeting, they told us that we could adopt the dog that we'd applied for, but they had a very special dog they'd like us to consider instead. They paired us with the best, the sweetest, most wonderful dog! The care that they take in placing their animals shows just how true to their mission they are. An amazing rescue! They responded quickly, set up meet and greets, yard checks and even provided a trainer to introduce the dogs and provide training and integration help. All around such a wonderful rescue and experience with them. We rescued Remy, a 7 year old Frenchie, and he was the perfect addition to our home and for our 9 year old frenchie. Not sure if the person responding to this rescue's emails is on drugs or what but rather than provide any type of compassion I was judged harshly for not responding instantaneously to this person's email. Then once she received the information SHE requested, she threw more attitude and insults. I wouldn't trust ANY pet at this rescue as long as Anna works there because she doesn't appear to have the heart or professionalism to rescue animals. We had a wonderful experience with Leslie and her "Foster Mom" who took care of our new baby until we found him. Leslie was honest, caring and informative. She answered all of my questions and got back to me in a timely manner. I am sad to see negative reviews, mostly from people who did not even adopt one of her animals. After confirming that I was in SF, I was told they don't adopt that far due to house checks. I reached out to NorCal Bully Breed Rescue about a Boston Terrier they had available. I live just outside Auburn California and see their posts shared often in my Boston Terrier FB groups. It turns out they *only* adopt to Sacramento area. So, I suggested they adjust their name to Sacramento Bully Breed Rescue as NorCal is very misleading. I said I'd unfollow them because I'm not an eligible owner. I wasn't being snarky or pouty, just honest. But the person who responded misread the tone of my message. Apparently, you aren't allowed to own more than one dog to be considered by them. My FB page shows me with our four Boston Terriers, but what it doesn't tell you is that THREE of them have died in the past FOUR months due to old age. Our hearts have been broken in the worst way and we're still coping with our grief. I tried to respond to tell them that, but they decided to be petty and hurtful in their response, then immediately blocked me. Maybe they just don't like the look of me? I wrote to this organization in desperate need of help looking to rehome my dog or for some resources. I understand my case is difficult because I have a dog with human aggression but he is just puppy and I believe he can be rehabilitated with the right people. However, with my living situation I know I cannot provide the right training and rehabilitation for my dog. I was met with a condescending response. Unfortunately this interaction happened on Facebook so I couldn't see who responded. When they let me know they would be uncomfortable networking my dog (which I understand), I asked for resources and they said to Google how to safely rehome a pet. Obviously, if it was as simple as a Google search I would not be reaching out to organizations. Then I was just blocked. Whoever runs the Citrus Heights location (Anna and Leslie) should not be in this business. This company has multiple foster homes in different cities. That couple, especially Anna, think they live in "Mean Girls" when they are too old to be playing high school games. They got a behavior check and didn't like it. Anna reached out to me to apologize but all she was doing was trying to justify the behavior you will read about in the picture I have attached. An apology should be just that. All the community wants is a behavior change and for this couple to do their actual job and care for the animals and the humans. Fowl language and behavior is not a part of that. I was going to block Anna because she searched for me on Facebook. That's creepy. She could've directly responded to the review I left on Chrome. I didn't leave a Facebook review. You can see when people are still typing and I asked her to stop. She blocked me after laughing like a child. Yeah, that's very mature. She's still the same. Very sad for this company. This business is rude to potential and current fosters. They delete all of the negative reviews and comments from their social media before people can screenshot the fowl language that comes from this business' mouth. Here is evidence of a 0-star foster company. There are so many better ones to go to. This company is so bad that they offered to give back donation money to someone they didn't agree with. The donor never asked for money, just for a behavior change. That money could've been used for the pets, but this couple, Leslie and Anna have too much pride and no compassion. I reached out to a couple of pitbull/bully breed rescues in the Sacramento area recently to see if they had any resources around a defensive/resource guarding dog. I was looking for possible trainer recommendations, as I want to keep my rescue dog, but she has become a danger to herself and those around her. Leslie from NorCal Bully Breed Rescue started out curt but helpful, but that quickly morphed into something unprofessional and then just outright rude. Asking for more information on a trainer before forking over money isn't outrageous. It isn't a waste of time and I find it laughable that 'hundreds' of owners have been helped but there isn't a written review anywhere that she could link me to? It would have been easy to say 'Hey I don't have time right now but here's the trainer's website/phone/email and you can reach out to her for more information!' Instead I was told that no one had ever asked these questions before (what???) and when I said the questions I was asking were common sense questions Leslie replied with a snarky "Maybe you should be googling dog trainers...Just a thought. And when you find that they are thousands of dollars for the same work, don't bother writing back." Who would just give someone $300 without hearing anything about the trainer that "usually fixes the problem on the first visit." ? I do more research on who does my nails, and this trainer would be dealing with a loved family member! I can see why they have so many 1 star reviews. And I'm sure I'll be harassed for this review, like so many people before me. I found a dog who they assisted me with while I fostered him years ago which was amazing and I am grateful he got a happy ending. Shortly after finishing that rescue process they asked me to assist with another dog. The message was sent on my birthday and initially I responded saying I could help but was out of town, and had additional travel coming etc. Thinking about it further I got overwhelmed with the idea and didn't respond to them further about helping the other dog as I am not someone who is good at saying no and was still in the midst of my travel. Yes I should have just said no, but I didn't at the time, and I can't change that years later. Today I saved a dog running in traffic and sent over an email with photos informing them I found a dog. They immediately respond in the previous email chain from years ago being extremely rude. A simple no we can't help you would have been the professional thing to do, or even ignore my email if that makes you feel better for my lack of response in the past - however she emailed back and forth with me with screenshots and all caps and nasty things to say - and ultimately told me to dump the dog at the shelter if I can't care for it. I understand if they do not want to help me or this dog because of my past behavior but a business or organization should not engage like this. I can't add screenshots here but here is the copy and paste of the exact emails: NorCal: "you could have responded. That was the least you could do considering how much we helped you. Regardless, it's over and done with. You can take her to the shelter if you're not able to help her. " Me: " I will always be grateful for the help you gave Henry, but that is a shameful answer and not a route I would ever take for a dog. Good luck " NorCal: "Shameful? What's shameful is saying you'll help a dog then completely falling off and not even having the decency to say "never mind, I can't do it". Shameful is having the absolute AUDACITY to reach back out to us after you did that. And shameful is expecting someone who you treated like garbage to help you again. Sorry we can't all just "panic and shut down" . Some of us actually have to behave like adults. Good luck to you as well." Me: " Yes, your behavior is shameful. I can't say good enough things about NBBR. Leslie was very communicative and our pups foster Dad was amazing about keeping in touch with us, giving us updates, and letting us do some meet and greets and spend time with Cricket. We had to deal with shutdowns (Vet closures) amid this whole pandemic thing so we had to wait longer then our excited lives wanted but it was worth it. Our little girl was left in a prison yard/grounds when she was only 7 weeks old and NBBR took her in. She's now a joyous/fun loving part of our family. You do have to make sure you have a secure area/fencing. NBBR will do a house check. The people I dealt with were on time and super nice. You do have to fill out an application and make sure you follow-up with the correct vet stuff (i.e. rabbies, bordetella, etc.). We did in our case as she was still young. Frankly we would have done that with any dog so no biggie for us. They will also make sure you are a good fit for the dog and vice-versa. They have to...some of these poor pups are left in pretty dismal condition and the last thing they want is to re-home a dog that has already been homed. We are incredibly thankful that people like NBBR staff are out there to save these pups. They do great work and are so lucky we have Cricket now. Thank you NBBR. read more

I inquired if the dog could handle stairs and more info about the cost and the owner was incredibly rude to me. He was so rude when I questioned him about the inflated cost. This is supposedly a rescue and not a breeder...I have my doubts that they are not turning a huge profit. This person was was dismissive to me and ended up blocking me because i asked him not to talk to me in a rude way. Do not do business with these guys. Before I begin my scathing review, I would like to first apologize to the individual I was emailing with for my use of the C word. I have used that word maybe five times in my life and I'm not proud of it, but it was deserved. Now onto my review: I inquired about a specific dog, noting that it would become an ESA service dog. With ESA the word 'service' is loosely applied. An ESA dog is an emotional support animal, and they are the very epitome of a companion animal! In the email response I received from someone with the rescue stated they don't adopt out their dogs for service, only companion. The ignorance of that statement is egregious. I also had pointed out I'm a retired law enforcement officer and I was accused of being entitled. With the law enforcement vile hatred going on with my sisters and brothers in blue was extremely rude. They are being ambushed, shot and killed, and I have close friends out there risking their lives every day, and to have that awful attitude towards me was unforgivable. Clearly, that person hates the very people who will give up their life in the line of duty to protect him/her. My new puppy dog will be an ESA "service" dog so he can go where I go, always by my side. Uh oh, here I go with my "entitlement!" As an ESA pet I'll be able to rent without having to put up an animal deposit, reduces costs at a vet and reduced pet insurance. Those "entitlements" are for every ESA pet! It has nothing to do with me being a retired Leo. Lastly, my POINT in stating the ESA aspect was to ASSURE them the dog will rarely if ever be alone! Every application I've filled out all ask how often the dog will be alone. So excuse me for trying to let them know the dog will always be with me. Shame shame on this rescue. I am disgusted and extremely disappointed for a rescue to behave in such a way. The fact that they are a 501(3)(c) makes their attitude even worse. Hmm...I wonder how their books look. I've a friend who is a special agent with the IRS. Maybe I should...nah, I'll let it go because I don't want to be at their low level. I have found some awesome dogs that would be a wonderful addition to our family, but by the time I find them they're adopted and that's phenomenal. The dog that I was interested in with this rescue group have many wanting him, so clearly this group is successful with adoptions. It's sad they failed so horribly with me. read more

We had a great experience with NorCal Bully rescue. We thought we wanted to foster at first. We realized with our wheelchair pup that would be to much stress in our house at this time. We saw Simon get posted for adoption. He was 5 months old, and had been returned for " being to much of a puppy." When we saw him we new we had to meet him! It was great match. Our two other pups love him. Simon even helped our fat beagle Lou, lose some weight. They play play play. Simon has been a great addition to our pack. For anyone considering adoption, give it time. Simon took 4 months to adjust to crate training since he was home at his foster with people that worked from home. After he understood his crate, he just settled In. It took Simon about 8 months to be 100% our pup. He had a couple quirks snd behavior things ( minor) we had to give him time and a solid schedule. He is overly comfortable and spoiled like the other two now. He is such a great guy, and we love him a lot. Adopting will be our only way forward we add to our pack. Thanks again. read more

I'm so disappointed with the unprofessionalism of this rescue. If you aren't from the Sacremento area, good luck adopting from them. Although in the name of the rescue says Northern California, you cant adopt if you aren't from Sacramento. I simply said in the email that maybe they should change the name because it's pretty misleading, am I wrong though? The response I got was very upsetting. Here's email proof. I'm so grateful to the AMAZING people at Nor Cal Bully Rescue. From day 1 they helped us find & bring home Keto. They were so thorough & honest, & amazingly patient. We are seniors. I have MS. We had been looking for so long. We learned all about Keto & his Foster parents were/are so helpful. I have had several rescues over the years. But I have NEVER dealt with an organization & people like those at Nor Cal. I can email or call any time if I have any questions. They truly go above & beyond. I can't thank them enough for letting us adopt Keto. He'd been beaten & left & they all worked tirelessly to get this sweet boy healthy & a home. He's got one with us & I don't know how we ever lived without him! TY so much for changing our lives & bringing so much joy to our home! I found a pit and reached out to their rescue for help. I could not foster the dog. That is all they wanted me to do. They sent me info on how big of a commitment fostering is and when I said I couldn't make the commitment, they were of NO help. Their 503 (c) should be revoked! Please beware of this so called rescue. They are extremely rude and unprofessional. This will be three reviews with one star each. This alone must say something for their lack of service and compassion. read more

Take this as you will, this was just my experience...my experience started at a local pet store where Norcal was showing off some dogs. While my girlfriend and I were at the event we met the sweetest pup, we instantly knew that this pup was the perfect new addition to our family. We didn't even leave the parking lot before filling out an adoption form. Later that evening we were contacted via email saying they wanted to come do a yard inspection. That week we had the yard inspection and the lady felt this would be a great home for this dog. A few days later we were contacted by the foster mom of this dog to set up a meet before the adoption was finalized. During this visit we were told that the adoption application was approved and we would be able to adopting this dog. We were also informed that this dog was brought into the shelter with a very bad ear infection that was now under control, but they wanted to take the dog to the dermatologist to determine if the infection was allergy related, but we would be able to still adopt her after her appointment on 4/29/19. The day of the appointment the foster mom texted saying the dermatologist went home sick and the dogs appointment would be pushed out two more weeks. We did not want to wait any longer to get her so we asked if we could take her now and take her to the appointment ourselves. We were unsure of who would incur the cost of the dermatologist visit due to the fact that the appointment was made prior to us wanting to adopt her. We were more than prepared to pay the adoption fee, but less prepared to pay an unknown amount of money for the dog to have an "Unnecessary appointment". At this point, the foster texted the owner of Norcal about the situation. The owner then responded to the text saying that she is worried that due to us not being able to afford the adoption fee and the dermatologist appointment and she is now worried that we would not be able to afford everyday care for the dog. A dermatologist appointment is not a everyday care situation. The owner texted the foster stating we now may not be a good fit due to financial obligation it would take to care for this dog. I then asked the foster if there was a way that I could get into contact with the owner instead of texting through a third party. I also stated that I could borrow some money and take the dog to the dermatologist appointment and that they could check that I took the dog to the appointment. The foster texted and said we would have to wait until the dog went to the second dermatologist appointment and would keep us informed with no mention of if I would be able to talk to the owner to explain myself. At this point we have still not spoken to or texted the owner. The foster contacted me on 5/7/2019 to let me know that they were able to get the dog into the appointment in early and stated that it is a long process in order to find out what was causing the ear infection and suggested a maintenance plan of a weekly flushing of the ear. I informed them that I would still like to adopt her and asked what I would need to do to finalize the adoption, in which the foster texted back and said that she had mis-spoke and the stated that the medication alone was $100+. The owner sent the foster the bill and she then forward that bill to me, stating that the the dermatologist appointments would need to be a monthly visit up to a year+. She stated that if the medication did not work that the surgery for her ear would be upwards of $6500+. And due to the fact that I mentioned earlier that I would not be able to afford the adoption fee and the first initial dermatologist appt that they were not confident that I would be able to care for the dog and all of the medical responsibility that would come with this particular dog. I still was not given the chance to explain what I meant when said that I could not afford the dermatologist appointment. I called numerous dermatologist and vets to see what their process\cost would be with a dog with an ear infection. They all said that they check to see if the infection is viral or bacterial, then prescribe medication. If the medication did not work they would get a culture to see if the dog is allergic to anything. All the vets and dermatologist states that the culture takes about a week for the results. I even spoke to the dermatologist that they took her too and they said it would only be about a week to determine the cause of an ear infection, not a monthly visit. Despite our experience we still want to adopt this dog, we were told she was ours, then after a judgment made by the owner who had no communication with us, she took away that chance. If she really wanted to get this dog out of foster care she would have given her to a loving home, who wanted to take care of her and her medical needs. We did not name the dog out of respect of the dog. read more

Had great interactions with Leslie. We were interested in a smaller dog (which is obviously hard for a bully breed rescue) but Leslie still came and did a home check for us. She met our tripawd Doug and said she would let us know if any dogs came up that she thought would be a good fit. We told Leslie we were working with other rescues as well and she said to tell them to contact her if they needed to do a home check, as she would vouch for us. We ultimately adopted from another rescue, but Leslie was awesome and this rescue is truly an amazing operation, as they mostly only take in dogs in extreme situations. I have donated to them in the past and will continue to do so in the future. read more
