I heard about Dr. Friedlander through a friend who had a procedure done with him. Last August I had a consultation with Dr. Friedlander about my stomach area to find out if I was a candidate or not for vaser liposuction for my abdomen, flanks and neck. I am diabetic and take a lot of insulin to help control it the best that I can. My goal was to find out if this could help control my diabetes better. I also told two of my doctors at Kaiser about the surgery and they suggested getting the surgery if I was a candidate. Before the surgery I also could not lose the weight but could not gain more weight. It was like I stuck with how my body looked. I had my surgery on March 10th. I do not remember that much because I was in what they referred to as the "Twilight Zone." I do remember having a conversation with them at the beginning and then waking up hours later to find out it was completed. I returned two days later for the first of what would be many post-op appointments. The first thing I remember from Dr. Friedlander was him telling me, "Well the love handles are gone." That was when I got a look at myself and I was amazed at the results. It has now been almost three weeks since the surgery and I have had an opportunity to see before and after pictures. It is like night and day. You can easily see the difference and it will only get better with time. It was like I lost my "dad bod" and now have a "beach bod." But more importantly my blood sugar levels are lower, better controlled and I am taking less insulin. I have talked to one of my doctors at Kaiser about the blood sugar readings and they are happy with the results. After much thought I feel it's important to say that IMO surgeons should not ask for a $1000. deposit for a procedure to be done many months in the future. In most businesses, like contractors for example, this is illegal in CA. Better to charge for the office visit, and ask for a deposit much closer to surgery, perhaps a month out. I've had surgeries in the past and no deposit was ever requested. So consider carefully before you give them a deposit. read more

An $11,000 mistake. I recommend going to a board certified plastic surgeon instead. I have had three prior procedures with a board certified plastic surgeon and was extremely happy with each. I even participated in a promotional insta for one of them. So my first mistake was not choosing another board certified plastic surgeon. My second mistake was not having Dr. Friedlander draw out a picture of the areas he will treat. On my procedure day, posterior legs became posterior calves and the other area I indicated on the back of my leg was "thighs" which are not part of posterior legs. My third mistake was not clarifying what exactly was involved in the four week post-op care consisting of "massage and ultrasound". This turned out to be ultrasound to the lymph nodes to the back of the knees and manual expression of fluid through my incisions by running his thumb?/hand? down the back of my bruised calf so fluid and fat could be pressed out of my incisions. This was off the charts painful. I thought about it and decided I had signed up for one liposuction procedure under anesthesia. After the post-op treatments without adequate pain control, it was more than I could bear. Once I said I was not ok with this to continue or for any needles injected to extract fluid, I was told I could leave and direct my own care. There was no offer of maybe topical lidocaine? or any other solutions to make it bearable and I was afraid of infection with my wounds being reopened in this way. I've always worked out regularly but unfortunately there were certain areas of my body I just simply couldn't reduce. Nearly a year ago now, mine was a $16,000 mistake! Please don't go here for your surgery, read on to find out why. It was my mistake for not paying attention to my gut reaction because when I read the rules about blood pressure I was extremely uncomfortable and had a call with them where I was pressured to go forward with the procedure and found out my money was not refundable! Initially I went in for a consult and felt rushed to sign up for liposuction on the spot, was told my quote was for a limited amount of time. I was looking to have the surgery soon and to reserve my quote I had to pay $1000. To reserve on the surgery schedule I had to pay the full balance. I thought it was refundable but found out its not and once you schedule, that money is lost. Dr Friedlander doesn't allow you to take your prescribed meds prior to surgery, this includes blood pressure medications for essential hypertension! On top of this, if your blood pressure is 160/90 after NOT having taken your meds, he reserves the right to cancel your surgery on the spot, and NOT refund your money! I feel this is bordering on negligence/malpractice. On my surgery day - First I was made to wait almost 2 hours while they repeatedly took my blood pressure hoping for it to decrease. I have had many surgeries and I have never been treated this way. My BP did decrease a little, surprisingly, and since the anesthetist was there, they did decide to go forward. Once they decided, it was all rush rush rush and I was lead to the surgery table, naked, and made to lie on my stomach with my arms forward over my head while the anesthetist inserted the IV in this position! The IV was painful and puffing up all over and when I told them, they asked, "are you sleepy? The discomfort will go away when you are sleeping"! When they woke me many hours later on the surgery table, they had me stand beside it and get dressed and then ushered me by wheelchair right out the door! There was no recovery period. One of my drains was gushing fluid and the Doctor even emptied it at the car before we left! We had to stop three times on the hour ride home to empty the drain! If I had been given a recovery period, perhaps this drain could have been allowed to slow down prior to leaving. I feel this is ridiculous and bordering again on negligence/malpractice. Back to the "sales" appointment (because that is what it felt like), I made a mistake not having the Doctor draw out the treatment areas - abdomen, back and inner thighs. On my procedure day, abdomen became upper abdomen only with spot treatments to lower abdomen - my waist and lower abdomen were essentially untouched, and inner thighs became only the treatment for skin tightening and no lipo. On my back I asked him to make sure and feather/blend the liposculpture onto my butt so that my butt didn't appear larger. It makes sense to blend the areas doesn't it? He said, "we aren't doing your butt, people pay money to have butt implants and lifts". If I had been allowed a refund, I would have cancelled on the surgery day - the ridiculousness of it all. Again, I feel Dr Friedlander and Norcal Liposculpture border on negligence/malpractice. It was obvious post op, simply because of the lack of pain, that all the areas I paid for weren't done. I DIDN'T GET WHAT I PAID FOR, I WANT A REFUND! The post op period is very strict but I was committed to the best results possible so, twice weekly appointments for "massage and ultrasound", which consists of an ultrasound wand being pressed to your groin for 5 minutes by the aide, and then Dr Friedlander would come in and run his thumb/hand down the center of my upper abdomen area extremely hard, presumably so that fluid could be pressed down toward the drains? Painful! I followed the post op requirements religiously despite the hour drive each direction where my husband had to take time from work to drive me twice a week, including appts to a massage therapist to assist fluid removal. Drains were removed when they were still draining 30 - 50 ml per day. Recently I had an MRI for other reasons and the radiology report commented on "free fluid" visible subcutaneously over my abdomen and low back!! This again, evidences negligence/malpractice. The compression garments left a lot to be desired. Even though the company providing them calls to get measurements and one is provided by Norcal Liposculpture, (another is sold to you during this fitting call) although a fitting call takes place, the garments are so tight I was always uncomfortable, unable to sleep, hard to breathe and required a second person to get into and out of the garment. All things considered, you need to have a 100% committed partner in this surgery experience, which I did. Think twice before committing here. I wasted my money and it feels horrible. My abdomen and inner thighs were priority for me, my back priority for him. Seriously thinking about calling a lawyer! read more

I had an amazing experience at this office. Dr. F was absolutely wonderful, and the other nurses and staff are amazing, too! I had lipo of the chin/neck, and am so happy with the results. Genetically that's an area where my excess fat tends to deposit, and after the procedure it looks like I lost quite a bit of weight. The care I received felt very personal, and I was happy with my experience every step of the way, including my regular ultrasound appts with Shelby after the procedure to assist with healing. I rarely write reviews because I'm rarely motivated by the outcome of services in any area of life but that's not the case with Dr Jack Friedlander and Tara, RN (surgical nurse) at NorCal Liposculpture. They are outstanding in every aspect from the consult forward esp in taking time evaluate your case to ensure you are a good candidate and to answer all your questions. I must say I was a bit skeptical after the consult as to the Vaser and Renuvion (a newer technique) combination proposed to obtain neck and chin definition largely in part bc I had my neck done about 5 years ago from another plastic surgeon and got a poor result from a standard lipo procedure. I always do my due diligence even in checking with the FDA and Tara was available to answer some additional questions prior to my decision. I committed to the procedure which was done without general anesthesia. Amazingly it was painless and I experienced minimal discomfort during recovery. Post-op care was well worth it to help the swelling to subside quicker and Dr Jack was readily available to assess my recovery progress and reassure me that I would see a nice outcome esp several months down the road. I am currently right at 5 weeks post and the results are very apparent in terms of a very lean, tight looking neck and more defined jaw line even though there is still some minor swelling which is quite normal. Dr Jack advised me that the results will only improve as collagen is regenerated due to the Renuvion. So I am very pleased so far. Hence I will post some pics in a couple of months to show the final result. In 2015 I went to a place called New Body MD for liposuction and it was one of the worst decisions of my life. The doctor, who was based in San Diego, botched me horribly. He left a huge dent in my arm and dents in my upper inner thighs as well. There was absolutely no skill or artistry in how the fat was taken out. I followed up 6 months later as I was instructed and I was totally ignored and the issue was never rectified. The patient consultant was so unsympathetic and wanted me to pay to have another doctor fix it because the original doctor was no longer affiliated with the facility. Not even at reduced fees, but at the same cost as I paid before! I was so hurt, I just gave up and went into hiding for the next 2 years. I felt like a freak. When I decided to seek help, I went to several doctors for consultations. They all told me that it was too risky and might make things worse, not worth attempting, or were just downright condescending. I was so close to breaking down, but I stumbled upon NorCal Liposculpture and scheduled a consultation with Dr. Friedlander. When I met him and his surgical assistant Tera, I felt like I had found what I was looking for. She sympathized with my story and he was very attentive. He told me he could help make improvements. He listened and didn't make me feel like what I was asking for with the revisions was unattainable. The other doctors I had met had me thinking I was stuck with these horrible irregularities. I came across Norcal Liposculpture and Dr. Jack Friedlander while researching vaser lipo online. After reading all of the positive reviews, I was amazed and I made a free consultation. As per other patients' feedback, Dr. Friedlander is a knowledgeable, skilled, confident, caring, and kind doctor that truly deserves all five stars. During my free consultation, I first met with Tera who gave me all the information about my surgery, financing options in addition to do' and don'ts. I went to see Dr. Friedlander in September 2017 for my initial consultation. I had already decided to have the surgery as I had extreme saddlebags and two big huge piles of fat hanging on the sides of my body almost all my life. I am now in my late 50's. The saddlebags have always been a source of grief and embarrassment. I have lived my life hiding the saddlebags (lots of girdles, long tunic tops, etc.). I had finally really just got tired of hiding my body and I wanted to be able to wear just a normal pair of pants that hang properly. So in September Dr. Friedlander got to peek at the saddlebags and suggested I should take care of my stomach and flanks as well. I agreed. Dr. Friedlander and Tara (his wonderful assistant) made me feel very comfortable and explained the surgical process, the recovery process and then let me think about having the surgery. I have never done anything like this before and was a little scared, yet I went ahead and scheduled a surgery date for late January. The surgery, for me, was around 8 hours. It is now just a little over two weeks post-surgery. I am still recovering, I am still a bit swollen, I still have a few post surgical drains and I am wearing my compression suit (all normal stuff for my recovery). And I have to say it has so been worth it. The results are more than I could have ever hoped for. The change in my body is totally unbelievable. It boggles me how Dr. Friedlander had me on that surgery table, on my stomach with this big pallet of fat in front of him and he was able to sculpt a normal body. It's truly amazing. I now have smooth thighs "No Saddlebags" nothing sticking out like before, I have a waistline and a very lovely shape. What is even more amazing is the results were immediate. A week after the surgery Dr. Friedlander showed me a before picture taken the morning of the surgery right next to an after picture taken one week after surgery. i would not wast a dime here, or anytime at all. i paid 7,500 for armlipo with jplasma. i wish someone would have told me to save my money & go somewhere else. not worth any of my money i wish i could get my money back. i rejected the post op care because the post op care was literally 10-20 minutes of nothing while im driving 2 hours there and 2 hours back home only for 10-20 minutes, also the first day after post op i got there extremely late because my dad is a slow driver, (my mistake)i wasnt greeted by my doctor he literally came in angry and said this cannot happen again! while i was just a day post op feeling vulnerable. im thankful for jackie at front desk she is the only person who made me feel welcomed. i'm 8 weeks post op arm lipo. my surgery was six hours & i see zero results..... maybe the slightest bit results, yet thats not my main concern at this point, my elbows are in extreme pain, i went to the emergency room to see if they could take x-rays they said there was no fractured bones, because the only way i can describe my pain is that it feels like there is fractured bones my elbows feel like they are broken. i'm pretty positive this is just nerve damage. i just want to know how much longer i will be in pain i went to see the doctor friedlander who did the surgery said that the pain is not from him ......? so i just feel really vulnerable now... i paid 7500 for zero results and for extreme pain he claims was not from him..... im a young mom of two kids and i cant even properly hug my kids because of my extreme elbow pain that friedlander claims was not from him, he specifically said you rejected our after care so where else did you go? the place i went never went near my elbows because they know how bad my pain was. my whole arms were in pain so i didnt notice the exact elbow pain until 2-3 weeks thats only because my arms started feelg better so the pain focus was on my elbows. he said if it was 2-3 weeks after it was not from him. i said everything hurt so i didn't notice it was only the elbows until 2-3 weeks common sense right? i've had a broken toe before and didn't notice the pain from my broken toe until my whole foot felt better so that's the only way i was able to understand why the focus wasn't on my elbows at first. please save your money & your time. read more
