My elderly mother is a resident of St. Louis Park and was confronted with a serious land dipping which lead to terribly large sink hole, unleveled landscaping, improper relief and consequential water drainage issues. This issue happened over the past 20 years. I had stepped into help mom find a contractor to fix the issues. We solicited 4 different bids and wound up choosing these folks. Rupert's bid was not the lowest one in the group. They were in the middle. But the owner Jake impressed me so much with his candor and attentiveness to what we wanted done that he was impossible to overlook. We were also clearly not a big money-making gig for Rupert's. They do mostly paver patio work and stylish retaining walls. But our issue was something Jake said they could address and they were able to squeeze us into an already tight schedule. Jake arrived with a small crew of 3 and finished the job in the amount of time he said the job would take. He used all of the materials and had no remnant soil. He actually saved us some money on the delivery fees by consolidating land materials into one type. Most important, they fixed the issue in my mom's backyard and left our property without any mess. Through it all we were made to feel just as important as any larger account. I have posted a few before and after pictures. If you can get on their calendar, I would recommend Rupert's Landscaping. It's a fair price paid for quality work.

I called to inquire if this company worked with areas of a yard where pavers had shifted over many years and were becoming hazardous to walk on. A third company had over reacted by my needs and kept stopping by when I was not home. Rupert's returned my call, we set up a specific meeting time and the owner Jake came to see the area that needed to be repaired. He suggested different ideas that I might consider and assured me that he could re-use the existing pavers, a significant cost savings for me! Jake and his team of 3 total men would remove the patio and walkway of pavers, reinforce "no shifting" with a border around the whole project, followed up by sweeping with a poly sand to keep pavers in place and weeds out. His team arrived as planned, began to work immediately and explained the steps they would be taking. Throughout the day they were diligent in their work and very knowledgeable of how to complete the task safely and efficiently. The project was completed in one day thanks to the heart and soul of these three individuals. Jake suggested my using a dark shade of mulch that would make the patio and walkway stand out....great idea as I have already had three neighbors ask for his company phone number. We hired Shades of Green to build a patio in our back yard. We explained our budget and what we…read morewere hoping for.... They put together a nice design for us. But we couldn't afford to do all of it at the same time (Like $15,000 was the total, but our budget was $5,000). Patio looks nice - but we counted a little over a dozen bricks that have rust stains from where ever they were stored. For professionally installed, we weren't thrilled with this - but live with it. They also built a small sitting/retaining wall for us. It was the end of October 2016 - and when they cam out to finish forgot to install one brick.... (so the sides were uneven.) we were fine with waiting until Spring 2017 for them to come back. We discussed that we were not going to pay our remaining balance until the job was completed. Fair, right? We paid over 75% of total bill already..... Now that Spring is here, we would like to build up our retaining wall a little more. But everyone at Shades of Green is suddenly CRABBY at us.... and I'm not sure why. We have been nothing but nice and friendly, even though they forgot a brick last year. And now they would like to do add a bit more - it's like we are bothering them. Not like we are having them do anything for free - we are still paying them, so whats the problem. Honestly, I would NOT recommend SHADE OF GREEN. For the amount of money we did end up spending, we are disappointed in the stained bricks in our patio. You expect better from professionals. We also didn't appreciated the lack of communication between their sales staff and their installers. Not sure why they were so "GRUMPY" with us either..... We waited 6 months for the job to be finished. Signed purchase agreement in AUGUST 2016 - now it is APRIL 2017 and we are waiting for them to come back and finish.

The aeration did not leave any earth plugs, just slight indentation. We were left with having to thatch several spots by hand.
