Norfolk Coffee & Tea is my "go to" place for my coffee beans. I'm what you call a Coffee Snob. I buy whole beans, and grind them right before brewing to taste the essential oils that are released. They roast their beans in-store. Some days when I come in they are actively roasting, and it smells amazing. I enjoy a good flavor added to my coffee beans as well. Norfolk Coffee & Tea has hard to find flavors, as well as more common flavors such as vanilla, hazelnut, and mocha. Every one I have tried has been delicious. Norfolk, coffee and tea has become a staple in the Norfolk community. I've been coming here since I was a kid and my dad got coffee here. I'm lucky to be calling Norfolk home for the last 30+ years. They are located across from Doumars. If you love, coffee and tea or just wanna visit the shop I highly recommend this place. Before stepping into the place, you can smell the coffee roasting as soon as you step out of your car. Talk about some free smells right there. I'm a huge fan of their seasonal loose tea and most recently I had what is called Sleepy Hollow which is a pumpkin spice chai tea. This particular visit was to pick out some teas. My sister-in-law would enjoy. She's a huge peppermint fan. I went with this candy cane loose tea. She also enjoys Matcha and they had like three different types of Matcha powders. I went bold with a blue-raspberry Matcha powder. I enjoy going into this local shop when I get a chance. This family owned place happily assists in all my coffee and tea adventures. read more

The tea here is great. Service is not, the owner and cashiers don't care about integrity of price. I paid with cash and they owed me $15, but we're more interest in closing up shop than making sure everything was even. Used a long day as an excuse but I just got off a 12 hr night shift. I've had this gem on my radar for a really looooong time Bc they supply the Aldo's blend to, you guessed it, Aldo's in Virginia Beach and I asked them where they get their amazing coffee. This is the spot! They have their own parking lot with spots and I easily parked and walked inside. No one else was here when I arrived on a weekday morning. The friendly owner greeted me and bagged up my Aldo's blend whole beans which they will grind for you if you ask. It's cheaper if you pay with cash and I also purchased two 16-serving k-cup boxes which he gave me a deal on since it was my first visit! He gave me their card, pointed me to follow them on Instagram and said they've been family owned and run for many many years and I can read about them on the website. They also have loads of loose leaf teas for sale, a whole wall of them, and an espresso machine where you can make a fresh cup and can grind your beans. The inside is small - with only the first portion dedicated to customer space while the magic is happening right in front of you in the back. It's a local spot with some seriously good stuff. Noms. Y'all this place smells so good inside!! With all the different coffee beans roasting and the fresh brewed coffee, I mean this is the best smelling place bed. It's an old school spot very familiar with the locals. It's behind the Cook-Out and KFC off of Monticello. As many times I've been on Monticello who knew. They sell everything from fresh loose leaf, coffee beans, coffee tea accessories, to spices. The beans are sold by the pound and the tea by the ounce. Chris, the owner is the grandson of the original owner and there's a lot of history in the place. They have signed pictures of famous people who have stopped in or they'd tried the coffee. He's very friend and helpful as my first time in. But they have so many fresh coffee and I'm sure you will find one you will like. I cant believe I havent purchased beans from here sooner. I like to pull my own espresso at home, so fresh beans are vital to a great espresso based drink! If ever wondered why your coffee never tastes as great as your local coffee shop, start with fresh roasted beans and grind them yourself. It is a world of difference. I used to buy Three Ships Coffee from wegmans and Prescription Roasters beans from coaster coffee. They were so overpriced and not nearly as fresh as buying directly from a roaster. Three ships coffee charged $21.00 for only 8oz of beans and they werent even fresh! Norfolk Coffee & Tea roasts in house and have a large selection to choose from! I recieved a huge bag for only $10.00. The owner created a special blend according to my preferences and added a little extra for me to enjoy. The beans had been roasted the day prior allowing for the beans to degass. I pulled them the next day and they were so good. I cant wait to come back and try more. My wife and I have been coffee drinkers for decades, me ever since I was in high school, and while we have tried many national and local brands, NC&T is the best we have found. Their coffees are always of the highest quality and at reasonable prices, and the taste never disappoints. Introduced to them by my nephew who is a naval retiree, we have been buying in person (on visits) and through the mail for the past few years. Service is great, and did I mention the reasonable price? Oh yes, I did, but it demands another mention. From their traditional beans to the flavored versions, their coffees are excellent (we love the Xmas style for the holidays... and other). We shy away from any other brand in our house (unfortunately we get gifted coffees - none the match for NC&T). Give NC&T a try, especially if you are in the area. The shop is a great place to visit, but their online ordering is quick and simple: get some for yourself and some to give as gifts to the coffee drinkers in your life (they also have tea for those who don't know better...LOL... and I've heard they are also of excellent quality). So before I tried this place I was drinking Three Ships Coffee. Nothing against their roast, but I prefer this place much more. The owner has fresh roasted beans in addition to flavored whole bean coffee! The first pound I bought was a hazelnut blend. I grind my own coffee so to find a flavored roast that was still whole bean was awesome and new to me. Once I tried a cup, I was hooked! I forgot about my beans that I bought from the other place. Went in to Norfolk Coffee and Tea the other day and met its lovely owner. He was so nice and helpful, but also kept me take my time and browse. I went there for the tea, and the variety did not disappoint. The owner said they were restocking the next say and had even more. I got 4 types of tea (watermelon oolong, cucumber melon green, mint chocolate, and a masala chai) and they were so good. The fruit teas are very refreshing and I like to make them iced as well as hot. Haven't tried the others yet but I'm sure they're fantastic. Ahh, Norfolk Tea and Coffee, I miss you so! Ok, so the location is shady, it is a complete speakeasy for coffee. You really have to know that they are serving coffee, and not, say, moonshine, before you head in. But once you do, the aromas of the exotic coffee beans will intoxicate your senses. They sell coffee by the pound or half pound, and every type has been wonderful! Their Christmas specials are particularly wonderful. I have purchased Earl Grey tea from this company before and it was good. I have also tasted the brewed coffee and it was alright. But this review is mainly about the business owner's conduct. Norfolk Coffee and Tea Co. is situated directly next to a Thift Store. Between the two businesses is a tiny parking lot. A few spaces for the coffee business. A few spaces for the thrift store. On the side of Norfolk Coffee's building, there are multiple signs stating something like "Parking for Norfolk Coffee and Tea Co. customers only! All others will be towed!" Due to the very limited amount of parking spaces between the two businesses, finding an appropriate space to park is an issue. Many people who intend to shop at the thrift store will park on Norfolk Coffee's side. And end up getting towed. That is alright. I respect the signs. I always park on the thrift store side when thrift store shopping, so that is not a problem to me. The other day, my husband and I were picking up furniture that we had purchased from said thrift store. (We had our vehicle parked on the thrift store side, of course.) The owner of Norfolk Coffee and Tea Co. stepped out and stood on his side of the parking lot, bitterly glaring at us as we were loading our furniture. He must have mistaken us for thrift store employees, because he started shouting at us. "YOU TELL YOUR PEOPLE TO STOP PARKING IN MY SPACES! THESE SPACES ARE FOR MY CUSTOMERS ONLY!" We looked around, confused and trying to see who he was yelling at, but there was nobody else around and he was looking right at us! So my husband replied, "Sir, we don't work here." The owner didn't listen and just continued shouting at us. "YOU GO IN THERE AND TELL YOUR PEOPLE TO STOP PARKING ON THIS SIDE, YOU ARE MAKING THE TOWING COMPANY A LOT OF MONEY! I'M SICK AND TIRED OF YOU GUYS DRIVING AWAY MY BUSINESS AND HOGGING UP MY PARKING LOT!" We again tried to tell the man that we were not employees, but he wouldn't listen. He continued to rant and yell and glare. Needless to say, I wanted to get away from this nut as soon as possible. I find the owner's behavior appalling. I used to hold a favorable opinion of Norfolk Coffee and Tea Co., but I feel very uncomfortable doing business with a company that is run by such an unpleasant individual. From now on, I would buy my coffees from aLatte Cafe, Bean There, Cure Coffeehouse, Pasha Mezze, or Elliot's Fair Grounds. Small businesses run by friendly and respectable people. First of all, I've heard they're closed, but I've not seen this first hand. However, it kills me when I asked Siri where to find great coffee nearby, this place came out on top. First of all, they are/were a wholesaler, not a coffee shop, and secondly, the coffee is/was like fresh-roasted Folgers. There's nothing rich or tasty about a cup-- the beans seem cheap and the roasts are flaccid. They all had that 'pencil shavings' taste of cheap coffee. I tried several different coffees and all were incredibly mediocre. Also, they are/were not even set up to really handle customers. I just am baffled by how anybody could rate this 5 stars unless they're an owner, employee, or relative. Believe me, any Starbucks roast is superior to anything they make/made, and that's not even saying much. I have no idea how this place survives/survived all this time when First Colony died. Although FC had no retail, their coffee was FAR superior to this place, and they were right around the corner for the longest time. Ok, before you go you have to understand that this is not a coffeehouse. It isn't Starbucks with a barista. This store is ran and owned by two brothers whose family founded it back in the early turn of last century. With that said the coffee here is seriously profound. I have a habit of only writing reviews when I'm either really happy or really disappointed in a place and with that said the coffee here doesn't in anyway have a bitter or waxy taste that you find everywhere else.
