What a gem of a coffee shop in ocean view! Stopped in on a recent Friday for a morning pick me up before venturing through the tunnel. I love this area of the city - feels a little small town/a little suburban. I have the coffee passport and was excited to try this new-to-me spot. Mudita sits just off Ocean View Ave practically on the beach. On this visit, there was ample street parking, but I dare say it is tricky on weekends and during the summer. It is in a pedestrian-friendly area, which is a plus, so it's easy to walk to. They do make a point to remind you not to park in the lot belonging to the adjacent shopping center or risk being towed. When I stopped in, it was empty except for one table. I let them know this was my first visit and the staff was happy to tell me about seasonal specials. They have a variety of teas and coffees. I do wish they had a sample of their food menu where they take orders. I didn't notice it until I picked up my drink, so I'll have to return when I have more time to peruse it. For my first visit, I wanted to try a seasonal special drink and opted for the Vietnamese Egg Coffee. It was described as an Americano style drink with egg custard foam. They offer decaf which is a plus so I selected this. It was ready in about 5 mins and was absolutely delicious. The only downside was the size. I wasn't expecting an espresso sized beverage for the price, but probably because I'm used to a Starbucks Americano which is bigger (even for a tall) and has slightly more hot water. The flavor was impressive and I much prefer the espresso Mudita uses! Overall, a great experience. I don't often venture out to OV, but I'll definitely stop back in when in the area! read more

I love this place early in the morning when I'm off or on a Saturday or Sunday morning. It's very low-key by very Becky. I love the fact that they have a full war in the morning. Just in case you want that breakfast and buddy Mary today after for a avocado too which is on Rosemary for Kosher bread I added the egg and the bacon and a diced tomatoes which was the perfect touch. And then I did a espresso, but she did a little design for me, which I loved a little touches. This is an amazing place. I always buy myself here in the morning. Cause it's a very low-key vibe. Love to try new places especially in area I'm not from, so that was the case here. Came with a group of my bfs friends the morning of their friends wedding to eat some breakfast. Coffee is so good! I appreciate how their syrups are homemade. The vanilla iced latte was delicious. We got a wrap and a bagel; the bagel was just a store bought bagel you could get anywhere. It is served on their waffle-like bun with bacon, egg, lettuce, tomato and their special sauce. It is terrific. Sometimes the best finds are the ones you just stumble upon! After a workout, I stopped by Mudita in Ocean View, mostly because I was craving a smoothie and didn't feel like making one myself. The place is huge! Way more space than I expected, and has a really chill vibe. I went with the Monkey Bottom Smoothie, which has banana, almond milk, peanut butter, and chocolate. Added protein powder because, you know, post-gym logic. It was creamy, not too sweet, and actually tasted like real ingredients instead of some weird artificial blend. For $7, it felt like a good deal, especially since smoothie prices everywhere else are creeping into "is this rent?" territory. The staff was super friendly, welcoming and happy to be there. That's honestly reason enough to come back. I could see myself making this a regular stop, whether for another smoothie or to just hang out. DELICIOUS coffee!! Tucked away in a side street shopping strip across from the beach, Mudita coffee house crafted one of the best lattes I've had in the area. I will say, however, I was not a fan of their Mudi-Cuban. It was decent, but did not hit the spot as a Cuban should. The service was friendly and the seating area of the cafe was very cute and cozy. We visited Mudita cafe earlier this week. The staff were kind and we were able to place our order within a few minutes of entering the cafe. Despite the busyness that morning, they served us our drinks & food quickly. The bombon coffee was excellent. I also enjoyed the breakfast sandwich. The matcha had a flavor that was strong and earthy, though I personally would have liked a bit more sweetness since it was a latte. Yelp asked what went well. Everything went well greeted as soon as I entered. The place is very cute. I went for a candle making class. The cafe was all set up for the event. The ticket for the event included a drink so I got a espresso martini suck my thing I love espresso martinis the owner who happened to be there made my espresso martini and she did a great job visually it was beautiful and as good as it looked better. I also had her make a tiramisu espresso martini for our instructor because she informed me that it's her favorite hers looks so beautiful that I ended up ordering myself was just as good if not better than the first one . They have a menu. It's a small menu for some food like snacks and sandwiches. I would definitely come back again to enjoy coffee and a pastry. Or even a cocktail. I really hope that they do more classes in the future because I definitely would come back . FYI, if you decide to go, please know there is on Street parking and there's also a shopping center directly across the street. Even better than downtown parking is free. I'm always on the lookout for cute coffee shops, and had bookmarked Mudita. Hadn't been to Ocean View in a minute, and leaving the airport was the perfect opportunity to drive through the area from East Ocean View to West Ocean View, all of which is definitely in the process of change. Mudita is located in the first two blocks of First View St. in West Ocean View. Mudita shares the block with a relatively new location of De Rican Chef and a yoga studio. Across the street is a strip mall that's been there forever, with a Harris Teeter where there was once a Farm Fresh, a dollar store, and several fast food places. Not upscale by any means, but evolving. I say all this to say that I expected a much different vibe. The area is diverse and a little gritty and I've always felt comfortable in OV. Many decades ago there was a small amusement park that we were taken to as kids. Over the years, I've passed through the area as a commuter and walked on various OV & Willoughby beaches, all of which makes my experience at Mudita stand out, but not in a good way. They have outdoor seating in the front, which I thought was cool. There were about 6 people outside who had already been served. Inside was spacious and didn't appear to be busy at all. There was one woman seated at the bar. I approached to view the specials board and stand near the register to wait to be acknowledged. I then moved to another area of the bar, hoping to get the attention of the solo barista, who was engaged in conversation with the customer. The customer *moved her bag closer to herself* as I approached. I've been on this earth for a minute, but quite honestly, am still shocked at overt displays of racist behavior. Because what about me screams I want what's in your bag? Or that I have even significantly registered your presence? As this point in life, as a middle aged woman, I found the customer's behavior especially ludicrous. Because if I look like someone who is going to grab your stuff and run, you must be somewhere in the range of not a good judge of character/your surroundings or an absolute fool. I ignored it, and spoke with the barista. The Eastern Asia Spotlight that was on display was intriguing, and of course I asked about the specials. I love Yuja, Thai iced tea, and Vietnamese coffee, but had never heard of a Vietnamese Egg Coffee. I got it to go, and it was quite delicious. I loved the definition of Mudita on the wall, a Sanskrit word describing one of the four boundless states in Buddhism - delighting in the happiness of others without envy. I saw no evidence of South Asian ownership of the place, nor did I feel particularly welcomed as a brown person, or just a human being, which was odd, given the deep spiritual meaning of the concept of Mudita. Service and vibe were meh. In retrospect, I wish I had also ordered the Oliang/Thai black coffee, as I doubt I'll return. I wonder how long this place will be in business. Like I said, I've always felt at home in Ocean View (despite being taunted and laughed by two separate local denizens in trucks when, tired from travel, I drove over a curb in the parking lot across the street) so I'll always come through the area and check out whatever comes next. I'll bump up from a 2 to a 3, based on the quality of the Vietnamese Egg Coffee. It was really well done. read more

The ambiance is fabulous and I love when they have live music and the booths for people to sell their wares. Drinks are tasty and they have different specials weekly (I have not tried the food. There seems to be few gluten free options/my vegan friend tried the humus and said it is very good!) Service is friendly. On our multiple trips we're had several espresso drinks (I always try the mocha at least once when I'm somewhere new and it was wonderful!) We tried several breakfast sandwiches, and you can get these GF! A win in my book! This trip I enjoyed a white wine sangria and my husband ordered the affogato as a late afternoon treat and it didn't disappoint!. If you are in ocean view check it out! I love this local coffee shop! It's close to the beach and close to home, so that's a win win situation for me. It's in the low seventies and the sun is beaming perfectly on the outside part of the cafe. Aside from the small ants outside, it's nearly perfect for enjoying a midday coffee and snack. I'm currently suffering from pistachio withdrawals, and as such, I'm in need of a replacement flavor. The Ube vanilla has a distinctly unique taste- rich but not overwhelmingly sweet. I'm having mine with almond milk, which is why it's blue and not purple. The waitress was thoughtful enough to heat up some coffee cake and chocolate pastry, which were infinitely better than Starbucks. I'll definitely be back soon! read more

I'm not sure why I never wrote a review, but this place definitely deserves 5 stars. Mudita has been my second home since it opened. I have loved the people who work here. Lucy has the best matcha, and I truly thank her for supplying my caffeine addiction. I love this little shop. The bathrooms are always clean, and have a place to change your babies. That's a big plus. There's plenty of space for you to do homework, charge you devices. Most days it's quiet, and filled with muted chatter and coffee sounds. It's the perfect place for you to meet with friends, or read a book in a cafe. I enjoy the events they throw, and I recommend if you're in ocean view to give them a stop. We found Mudita after searching for local events to attend. Mudita was to host a brunch time Open Mic, so we drove up to enjoy some local poetry. When we arrived it was about 5 mins to show time and the place was pretty packed. We lucked up on a table in the back near a window and were both elated. We love a window seat. We didn't come to dine so we ordered 2 teas ( French Kiss Pur'er), with almond milk and a plain bagel with cream cheese. The tea was smooth, and had the tinest bit of fruitiness. The bagel was decent, but I should have requested it be toasted. They have a menu of Breakfast, Lunch, Coffee, Smoothies, Tea and some alcoholic offerings, wine, beer and mimosas. The Café itself is spacious, with comfortable seating and speciality lighting, that really added to the Open Mic performances. Mudita is LGBTQ friendly, and a safe space for the community. read more

I have visited this place many times prior to my visit today and have always had good encounters. Today however, I cannot say I had a positive experience. I struggle with severe social anxiety when I'm out on my own which makes ordering a bit overwhelming. I came in with the intention of ordering a single espresso shot in a cup so I could prepare it myself at home. I looked over at the laminated menu at first just to see if anything else caught my eye. I opted out and asked for an espresso in a 16oz cup, the woman at the register then gave me a look and said "a latte?" I repeated that I wanted an espresso in a 16oz cup and again she continued to repeat a latte, then said "there is no espresso 16oz" With a mocking look and tone. That shot my anxiety up completely and I became overwhelmed. Feeling flustered, I gave in and asked her for oat milk. I felt defeated into getting a latte due to her persistence. She then laughed and said "yeah that's a latte" I'm sure if I wanted a latte I would have asked for a latte to begin with. I may just be feeling a tad emotional today however I do feel like the woman at the register could have been more considerate in how she asked for clarification on my order. I also over heard my name being repeated multiple times between the staff as I waited. Not sure if it was just out of simple communication or if I was being talked about but given the uncomfortable feeling I was already experiencing, it only added to my anxiety. The coffee is great and the shop is clean, welcoming for people who would like to study, work or read. I hope that if I decide to revisit in the future, the service is redeemed. All I ask is for staff to be more considerate of how they speak to people. read more

My fiancée and I are always happy to take part in their local events, community efforts and live performances because their quality never wavers. The folks who own and operate this establishment do it with love. Their workers seem relaxed and are always friendly and patient, ready to answer every question. There's plenty of seating, both indoor and outdoor, with an accent wall for any instagrammable moment. I'd rather support this local small business than its corporate competitors any day. Came here within a week, got obsessed with the affogato with vanilla ice cream, you've got to try it. They're open even on this weather alert night! My friend had been raving about Mudita, and I was finally able to visit today. It was just as amazing as he claimed! The coffee shop looks rather small and quaint from the outside, but once inside it is very open and welcoming. The staff are very sweet and friendly. And told us all about the monthly specials. Now about the cofdI tried the spiced orange latte it was just the right temp not scalding and not cold lol. It tasted sooo good we walked over to the beach and enjoyed the surprisingly warm weather it was just perfect. Great place to sit and enjoy a good ol cappuccino and get some work done. The inside is so beautiful and even has a selfie station that's decorated in lights and leaves. If you would like to sit outside (weather permitted) there is outside seating. They have some small breakfast and pastry options as well. I loved the avocado toast! The cappuccino flavors are definitely unique. I forgot the name of the one I had but it was coffee and ginger and by far was delicious. Mudita also sells merch like coffee mugs and bags of coffee beans. All the employees were extremely nice and even suggested what to pick in terms of coffee. I visited the bakery around mid-afternoon when it wasn't too crowded. The selection was a bit limited at that hour, but everything still looked fresh. I picked one of the simpler cakes, and it turned out better than expected moist, lightly sweet, and not artificial at all. The space is clean, no strong smell of butter or sugar in the air. Stopped by on our way across to the peninsula today and it was a great experience! Upon walking in, I noticed a really retro and fun vibe, and definitely would be somewhere I'd want to hang out. The staff was also really friendly and taught me about the menu (which was a little hard to read, but whatever). I got a seasonal special of a gingerbread latte with oat milk (half sweet) and it was really tasty. I am glad I got it half sweet tho, it definitely would've been closer to Starbucks level sweetness.
