Well it's been another year so I get another free meal for birthday recognition from their loyalty club. Overall its was very good except for two items. It was 14 deg outside and was very cold inside until I asked for heat to be turned up. Which it was but I shouldn't have to ask. The chicken fried steak wasn't very good as described by another review. Drop them to 4 stars. Too much and hard fried batter on outside and meat was too tough. Need to work on it. I posted some new photos. The waitress uses a handheld device to take your order and to pay the bill. Neat feature. I like them as we don't have to stand in line waiting to pay cashier. read more

Chicken fried steak: Perfectly breaded and not overcooked. Tender with perfect breading. Gravy was spot on perfection. Dinner salad, chicken noodle soup and home style mashed potatoes (like mamma used to make) Corn bread hot and fresh. Not too sweet but large and tasty. (Sometimes I like a dense cornbread but these were wonderful). Fresh hot rolls, wow! The best. Beef tips & gravy: Beef tips perfectly seasoned and not too much salt (most places hide lower quality by overcooking and over salting). These were soft, tender and done exactly the way you would want. Caramelized onions in the noodle base. Noodles not over cooked (big points) held up well to the meal. This was an awesome dish. Hot fresh brewed Community Coffee: It was so good. No cream or sweetener. Really good coffee can stand on its own. Only regret: Too full to partake in the most beautiful pies I've seen in a long time. Will have to do a reverse meal here next time. Very very long day at work and I just wanted GOOD food to go so I could sit down and eat at home. I've never ordered from plano location but I am so happy I did tonight! The manager (I think his name started with an M) was SOO freaking efficient I couldn't believe it. He was holding the door for an older couple when I walked in, took my order while helping another person check out, while also getting a delivery driver his order, and had my order out & ready in about 60 seconds. Dinner was great, and meringue pie slices were only$2! Great ending to my day. I'll be back for that level of customer service and quality. read more

We were shopping in the area and got hungry. We literally looked around and saw this cafe that we pass by everywhere but never tried so we both agreed today is the day. I like everything bout this place. The decor, the hostess was real sweet,she had to seat ppl before us but she managed to say she will be right back and help us out. I mean I dunno about you but hospitality has taken the wrong turn in my opinion, anyways I felt her attention and it made me feel welcomed. The service was also top notch, since we never been there we asked her whats her favorites were. She also told is about their specials, I haven't heard about one of the pasta dishes she mentioned and she literally came back with a little sample. Which was very very tasty btw. I'm not sure what's happening with normas . It's always been our go-to for comfort food. Today. The fried mushrooms have shrunk, the onion rings were white neither the traditional golden brown. I ordered the southern fried catfish my fav. Every time I tried to pick up a piece it fell into tiny inedible pieces. With all the closings in that area we always depended on normas. The manager was too busy on his cell phone to speak to us. We watched him outside on his phone. We of course returned our meals for a refund and for once left Normas hungry. What a shame read more

When you first walk in you see this wonderful glass case full of the prettiest pies! All sliced and ready to be eaten with your meal. Lots of great looking pies with generous slices. I met my friend here and we were quickly moved to a booth. I noticed the "kips big boy" or "Shoneys big boy". Depends on what part of the south you grew up in. Nice memory jog!! Seating for two in a booth was awesome. I dislike being seated for a party of two in central seating. Glad they set us in a booth so we could visit and not be rushed. On Sat 11/9/24 I had a group of family meet at Norma's on 15th Street in Plano for a lunch together. We reserved their private room. There was 21 of us. I cannot tell you how wonderfully it all went. Norma's out did themselves. The food was perfect. The friendly service and the timing of the meals was done to perfection. This was the smoothest gathering ever. Would give this place 0 stars if I could Came during the anniversary day special Sat down and ordered the chicken fried steak special - debated ordering mozzarella sticks but waitress said the chicken fried steak would be out faster than the mozzarella sticks would be. So we waited, about 40 minutes later we're still waiting and our waitress tells us that they are out of chicken fried steak and that they have chicken fried chicken. We said okay sure that's fine and we wait 10 more minutes until our waitress told us that the fryer is broken and that they had meatloaf or chicken over dressing. We wasted 50 minutes sitting at a table just to be told that we could either have meatloaf or chicken over dressing. We decided to bid our waitress farewell, who was extremely slow to tell us about updates regarding availability of food or the fryer breaking (we overheard other waitresses 5-10 minutes talking about the issues before our waitress told us). I could have killed a cattle, harvested the raw steak from its carcass - cooked my own chicken fried steak and ate it in the time we waited for absolutely nothing. Poorly executed anniversary special - fryer breaking - apparently they had run out of the cake special 3 hours before we came in. Very under prepared and me and my two friends left extremely hungry and angry. Would post a picture of the food but because I didn't get any I have nothing to post. I was dining here with two of my colleagues. I have to say that the service was quite uninformed, and there is a clear need for better training for their chef. I ordered a Ribeye Steak, which arrived looking pale, resembling boiled skin. It was loaded with inedible fat. They prepared another steak for me, but it came out just as pale, if not more so, looking boiled. It was also fatty, thin, and not cooked evenly. When I inquired about the lack of sear marks, I received a vague "I don't know." The steak was tasteless and far too chewy. My colleagues opinions; one ordered pot roast, which was somehow dry and overcooked, while the potatoes were undercooked. Even with gravy, the meat remained dry. The broccoli and carrots were completely unseasoned. The chicken fried chicken was nothing but breading. Additionally, the salad they served me was inedible due to the abundance of soggy and wilted lettuce. This establishment does not reflect the quality of Norma's at all. read more

But... my 1/2 burger was about 1/4 pound short on beef. it had 2 patty's about the same size as a normal fast food burger, looked very much like a Burger King double meat cheeseburger which would have cost much less. a half pound burger is more than a big bun and lots of condiments, it still needs to have half a pound of beef (less some fat loss). This clearly did not. Update: Upon getting my review, management reached out to me and apprised me of the actions they are taking to remedy the issue. They were more than helpful in securing my satisfaction. Action taken when there is an error is definitely what I want to see from a place where I do business. This is the first time going to the Plano location. We normally go to the north Dallas location. My husband got breakfast and he was pleased with his meal. Unfortunately my LAST visit to this Plano location. In my experience, the quality of the perishables has declined significantly over the last few years. My order was not always prepared as requested - simple requests. Bacon "soft", toast COLD, eggs cooked sunny side up (specifically requested "over-hard - NO runny eggs) RETURNED the order ... no thanks, Once upon a time menu plates were delicious, and on point ... sadly not so much now. I will visit the Trinity Mills location now, it has been awesome every time I've visited. And the manager is always on the floor interacting with the people. Tonight we ordered take out. Buffalo wings, chicken salad, meatloaf and chocolate pie. It was way below average, the most pathetic slab of mush passing for meatloaf. My salad was missing cheese and onions. The bread was hard and our pick up time was 705 but it wasn't ready until 7:30. We pre-tipped but that didn't help. Decided to try Norma's for breakfast after dropping my dog off for a bath. Spent a few minutes looking at there reviews and saw some mixed feedback and figured I'd roll the dice. Pros: Despite it being a seat yourself venue, the wait staff noticed quickly and was attentive. The food comes out quickly. Pancakes are great! They're massive and they still have the crispy edges. Cons: first impressions the place feels like a dirtier Johnny Rockets. The floors were sticky and everything else kind of "felt" sticky too. Coffee is extremely watery, definitely need to fix that brew. Another helper commented that the breakfast combos don't come with eggs, and just confirmed it with a short stack bacon combo. Little weird, not a full con but maybe others might feel differently. Bacon was mediocre at best. The microwave bacon from Costco's frozen section is better. The bacon had almost a jerky consistency coated with oil. Wasn't crispy, or anything just chewy and salty. Personal gripe, but the "syrup" is just high fructose corn syrup. The pancakes are amazing and I think offering real maple syrup would go a long way. Like some other helpers said, maybe breakfast isn't it here. The lunch and dinner menu do look great. Monday night was my first Norma's experience and I really enjoyed myself! Solid American comfort food at an affordable price; portions are huge, and I also really enjoyed the complimentary rolls and cornbread that come with your meal. The chicken fried steak was wonderfully breaded and had great flavor -- not too salty, but definitely seasoned well. The fried okra was also great. I got a cup of peach cobbler to go and ate it the next morning and it was delicious as well! Would definitely come back for the chicken fried steak and also to try some of the other options on the menu. read more

DELICIOUS! I FINALLY was able to eat here after hearing so many people rave about it. We ordered two entree's and split it all! You enter the establishment and are greeted by a sign stating you need to wait to be seated. This wasn't the case as a waitress told us to find our own table. We find our table and our waitress greets us fairly quick. She was incredibly sweet, was on top of it, ready to serve and was accommodating. She was knowledgeable about the food and even informed us when orderIng the fried pickles that they were salty. (Thanks for the heads up!) The food came out fast. Super flavorful, nice and hot and SOOOOOO MUCH FOOD!!!! The patty melt was really good but the show stopper to me was the Fried pickles and the Chicken fried chicken. As a chef, I'm always looking for a restaurant that provides outstanding food, friendly prompt service, and an inviting ambiance. Normas missed the mark... First, our server took our order and was having trouble with the machine. After placing our order, we sat for 20 minutes before getting our beverages.... Another server told us, "Your server just quit. Did he put in your order?" He took our order but never put it in. Then another 20 minutes for a chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken, and some veggies. Food comes after 52 mins in the restaurant only to get an overcooked breaded hamburger patty they called chicken fried steak... I guess they use cooked chopped sirlion steak. Cold food. Sadly, bad service isn't unusual. Stopped by the other day and left after waiting 10 minutes for someone to seat me. Not even an acknowledgment or a "we'll be with you soon." On another recent visit, the waiter forgot to turn in my order, and on another recent breakfast visit, they forgot the beans, which should have been included with my breakfast tacos.
