I did not receive the side salad NOR any gravey for my Chicken Fried Chicken dinner tonight!

I loved this place and regularly stopped by for lunch and dinner. Still trying to figure out what has changed, but the service is abysmal now. Long wait times to get seated. Messed up food orders. Cold food. Sadly, bad service isn't unusual. Stopped by the other day and left after waiting 10 minutes for someone to seat me. Not even an acknowledgment or a "we'll be with you soon." On another recent visit, the waiter forgot to turn in my order, and on another recent breakfast visit, they forgot the beans, which should have been included with my breakfast tacos. One mistake is excusable. But after four bad visits in a row, I'm not returning. read more

I like the homestyle comfort food, whether breakfast or lunch. The cafe deco is filled with old country, Texas and/or Dallas specific articles. My breakfast go-to meal varies but it will always include biscuits. Chicken fried steak can come with breakfast or lunch. read more

This is such a cute little cafe. Can't believe I have never tried this gem before. The inside of the place is like you're in a video game, it's so neat and so much to see. The food was so delicious!! Daughter got the double cheeseburger it was so much food. I got the grilled chicken salad, wow! Well portioned meals. They are not cheap on their food which is great!! Better to have much more then less. The service was mediocre, but it's ok cause the food was amazing!! We will come back to try the chicken fried steak and some pie! Great place!! read more

Husband and i came to this location.. First time.. Carmen was our waitress she was very sweet we never had to ask for anything she was there to refill our drinks with no wait... We tried the Chicken fried steak with sides everything was good great portions. She brought out bread and cornbread as we waited the biscuits were huge very delicious... Would coming back. read more

Normas has been a staple in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex for years. I was especially excited for the anniversary a few months back. I also just attended a social media influencer event and I often go just to be a fatty! So when it comes to Norma's, there's nothing that's stopping me from entering that building apparently... I'm a huge fan of the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans I also like the buffalo bites, chicken fried steak fingers and macaroni but again these are all go to items that every review has mentioned before. I can say the one thing that keeps me coming back is the family atmosphere and the all-around great comfort cooking that's provided consistently! And you can't get to Norma's without having a slice of pie right!? Not as good as it used to be. I imagine they've been hurt by COVID like a lot of businesses. It seems that they've lost some of their regular staff. The result is that the food isn't as good as it used to be, but the prices are more expensive. It used to be a great value which was why we ate there regularly. Now it's just expensive and "meh". We spent $60 (not incl tip) for my wife and I and three little kids, and believe me we didn't order anything extravagant. We used to be in the $40-$50 range but the food and waiters were much better. Is it worth going? We'll give it another try, but if it continues to be expensive and mediocre, we'll probably stop going and find a new place. Mgmt: I suggest you improve the quality of the ingredients and your cooks. I'll put up with a lazy waiter if the food is great. If the food is so-so and the waiter is sub-par, well then what's the point of going? Sorry :-( read more

My spouse and I eat here once in a while and typically never have any problems, but after yesterday I will have to rethink ever coming back. So, we had dinner and I had a bacon cheeseburger & dessert afterwards. My spouse had something different than I did. First, the menus were so worn, most of the writing, including the prices and a lot of the item descriptions were too faded to read. Fortunately I had been at Norma's many times and knew the menu. Friday evening dinner very slow service. Server kept apologizing saying the kitchen was backed up. When food eventually arrived, I had ordered the meatloaf which is usually one of my favorite dishes at Norma's. They have changed the recipe and it is horrible. They used old cornbread for filler. It was sweet tasting and large chunks of cornbread were visible. It was clearly more filler than meat since the taste of any meat product was absent. If this is the new standard, I will know not to order the meatloaf anymore. read more

What can you say Norma's is just a wonderful diner in the heart of Plano close to Richardson and Garland. The decor is fun and connects to all of us who call Big D and North Texas home. The help is friendly and courteous. We went at 2:00 PM on a Saturday and the place was still very busy. You will wait a bit to get seated and served but this place is well worth it. They are good about getting your drinks and bread out for those who want to chow down quickly. I ordered the country breakfast with chicken fried chicken and pooched eggs. My sister had the meatloaf and my brother in-law ordered the pot roast. Everything was great. The veggies are fresh and homemade. If you want a real diner experience Norma's is it. I have to say that Norma's is my go to place for fast, consistent, above average food. I have tried 3 of the 4 locations, and the Plano location has more seasoned and quality servers. Diners are disappearing in this country as the corporate entities drive the independent owner's out. Community Coffee is a big pull for my morning breakfast trips. There really isn't any below average menu items. The Chicken-Fried Chicken is waaaaay above average. Old school pies and cobblers satisfy the sweet cravings. This family owned business has set the standard in the Dallas Metroplex since 1956. I eat here 2-3 times a week. read more

What happened to Norma's!?!? Used to be a really great place that was always full with a line out the door. Portions were large and the food was tasty. They had a blackboard of daily specials and okra was always among the available sides. The pies were delicious and about a mile high. The last two visits, portions are small, food tasted bland, no specials - blackboard gone - and okra is no longer an available side. Pie slices are no longer a mile high and bland in taste. That was yesterday. No more lines out the door, just a few tables taken up with customers and the kitchen does not pay attention to orders. We had to send one back. With two consecutive disappointing visits, we're done. We won't be goingIt's just not the way it used to be. Stopped in over the weekend with the family for breakfast. We were greeted by a very friendly hostess that seated us promptly. That was a great way to start our visit! We all ordered different things and everyone was pretty pleased with everything. I ordered the country breakfast, 2 eggs over easy, country fried steak and hash browns. The eggs were cooked PERFECTLY! Sometimes with over easy it is hit or miss, but these were spot on. The country fried steak is something the size you would expect for dinner and not a breakfast, but it took up a lot of the plate and was very good. The only hit on it was the crust really didn't seem to adhere that well to the steak, but that didn't stop me from eating the entire thing, lol. The hash browns had that crispy exterior but soft and perfect middle that I love! The biscuits here are huge and those with gravy would be more than enough for a filling breakfast. Our server (Starlight) was very friendly and attentive as well. As were the other staff members too. We always had someone checking on us and refilling drinks. It's always a pain to have to try and track down a server but this was not the case here. They are wonderful! The interior has a classic diner feel which just makes you feel good. This was a great way to start our day and I know we will be back. We didn't get a chance to try dessert, which we heard is very good, so that will be next on the list. read more

I'm not sure what's happened here, but we had a really long wait for food and then had issues with service and our order. Our waitress spilled salad dressing on the table when setting a plate down, disappeared for several minutes not to return with paper towels but with extra dressing. We had to ask for something to clean with and only then she brought some napkins and a washcloth out. My dinner was disappointing and partially correct (soup instead of carrots) and my daughter and husband had cold food. We saw another family complain about the wait as well. They left. I wish we'd done that sooner. We had originally arrived thinking we'd ask for some pie after dinner, but honestly, just wanted to leave. We waited on our ticket and asked at register but since our server (Ariel?--not sure maybe she was cashier...this was the name on the receipt)wrote on her hand, it wasn't there to ring up--so even more waiting. Every city needs a Norma's Cafe. Great breakfast food (Order the Norma's Cafe Favorite). Great service; wonderful, experienced ladies skilled in serving breakfasts. Great atmosphere - you could be sitting next to college kids or the Plano City Manager - surrounded by multiple business meetings, or retiree's gathering or friends joining up. Crossing another food gem off my list. I decided to give Norma's Cafe a try this morning. If I could give a half a star I would and that would be for the food. The three stars is for our long 20 minute wait for our waiter after being seated and our waiter being a tad "off". After being greeted by the gentlemen, he seemed to get a little better. I ordered the Chili Cheese Fries, Mac N Cheese Burger and the Chilli Cheese Burger They all got 4.5 stars in my book. Very huge portions so be prepared!! Chili Cheese Fries - is french fries coated with chili, jalapeños, onions, and cheese. they were fairly good the little portion that I ate. Chili Cheese Burger - is a double patty burger layered with chili and cheese. It was mouth-watering. Mac N Cheese - Double patty burger with load of elbow mac n cheese. DE-FREAKIN-LISH. I have been to Norma's only a few times and have loved it each time. We went today for lunch, and, unfortunately, I was underwhelmed. First off though, the service was GREAT. Very kind and attentive. No issues there. We always get the 'Texas sized' chicken fried steak, but it was considerably smaller than in the past. And not enough gravy (claims 'smothered', nope). It was more breading than steak. The green bean side was great. The Mac and cheese recipe really needs to be recreated. It was like what I would imagine a Golden Corral or some crappy buffet mac and cheese to taste like. The mashed potatoes lacked seasoning. I took the rest home and added salt, pepper, butter, green onions, and it was great, but did I need to have to do all that? The buttered corn tasted like it came out of the can, liquid and all. I'm willing to give another try, but not anytime soon. read more
