Located in a very renovated spot from many years ago. It's quite nice inside and well lit. The service was prompt without being pushy. They were also very helpful since it was our first time there. We tried the bolognese, baked manicotti, a meatball sandwich, and some pesto. It was all very good. We also took a pizza home for the little guys. We enjoyed Norma's. This was our first time here and we came with another couple who are local to the area. It was a Wednesday evening at 6 PM. We got the last 4-top but other tables did turnover while we were there. Blanca was our server and she was very kind and took great care of us. We shared a bottle of wine and they brought out a complimentary bread basket. The bread was 'okay'. It was like a dry focaccia bread. I tasted rosemary in it. It was served with butter and there was oil, vinegar and grated Parmesan on the table. My wife and I shared the large wedge salad and beef ravioli with marinara sauce. The wedge was actually cut up romaine. Not a wedge but that was fine. It was dressed properly with dressing, red onion, tomato and bacon crumbles. The ravioli was the star of our meal. Ample serving size and tasty sauce. I really enjoyed the beef ravioli. I saw a nearby table with the chicken Parmesan and it looked fabulous. I'll try that on our next visit to the area. Very generous portions of pasta and seafood. Delicious and well prepared. linguine with mussels linguine frutti di mare House wine (chianti) is also a generous serving. Prices were incredibly reasonable at low $20's for pasta and under $8 for house wine. No reservations are taken but we waited less than 5 minutes for a table on a weeknight. Service was friendly, helpful but seemingly a little short staffed. Ambiance is lively, though decoration is a little stark and lighting is bright. This appears to be a new 2nd location of a Rancho Mirage Norma's. So far, so good. Will definitely return and recommend. read more

Great food actually tastes homemade not prepackaged ingredients..loved the lasagna and my husband ate his whole meal of the veal piccata which doesn't happen often, it was that delicious! We have been to Norma's in Rancho Mirage a few times, food is flavorful and delicious. The restaurant was busy on one visit, and our server was very attentive. We enjoy their desserts, I order the tiramasu, my husband orders the Classic cheese cake. read more

My wife and I went to Norma's with another couple for the first time over the past weekend. Opinion was divided about the quality of the meals. Our friends had the chicken Marsala and ravioli. They both enjoyed their meals and they were committed to at some time in the future. My wife had fettuccine Alfredo, her favorite, but she left half of in the bowl. I had the eggplant Parmesan. The serving size was massive. As I dug in the overall flavor was mush. The meal was tasteless. I added Parmesan in the hope of adding a little flavor, but that didn't happen. The restaurant has been extended from the old La Quintq Bakery, but the ambiance is stark and anything but cozy. Consequently the noise was pretty loud. After the entrees we looked over the desert menu. The list of three items was considerably different from the online menu. I was looking forward to a cannoli that was featured online. The waitress told us that the menus are shared and between the La Quinta and Rancho Mirage location and that they have cannolis at Rancho Mirage. That was no help. No deserts were ordered. The service was good. The wait staff tried hard. My wife and I won't be back. We'll go to Enzo's instead. read more

So happy Norma's took over the space of the French sandwich place. The food is top notch. Fresh and delicious with a huge menu. House wines for under $8 a glass. My "small" Asian chicken salad was perfect for a full dinner. Eggplant parm with pasta and veggies was delicious! Service was delightful. They have only been open for just over a week and a half, so I am expecting that they will transition slowly from a French sandwich place to a classic Italian restaurant. The lighting was a little bright and harsh, but it was actually really nice because everyone chatted with each other from table to table. My recommendations would be to dim the lighting, and to save the pounding of the chicken breasts for a time when diners are not in the next room enjoying their meals, because it was about a half an hour of loud pounding that did get in the way of the ambience. Called to get a reservation for 5, and was told they only take reservations for 8 or more. When we got to the restaurant, we found out the reservations are for 6 or more, not 8. We got seated and right away we had a waitress come and take or drink orders. About 20-30 min. later, they came to get our food order, it did not arrive until ONE HOUR later. The food was not tasty, in fact, it lacked flavor. We were add ing salt, balsamic vinegar and spices in order to give it some flavor. The staff was pleasant. I come here 1-2 times a week. It is the best italian food I have found in the desert. The service is great. The bartender is awesome and knows what I order at this point which is that little extra step that elevates the experience. I walked in and asked one of the servers if their phone was not working because I tried to call them. She acted like she couldn't care less. So I preceded to place my order with her as I'm ordering the women in the back kitchen are eating and touching customers food at the same time licking her fingers and touching more food. I should have left then.. I ordered Greek salad which I threw most of the lettuce out as it wasn't good. I ordered mozzarella sticks not fresh not hot. The pizzas were nothing but a pile of cheese not even cooked all the way.. definitely NOT A AUTHENTIC ITALIAN FOOD!! Don't waste your time or money The ambience was nice while I was waiting. Although a young kid running around assuming it was one of the waitresses kid. The kitchen staff needs direction and training on what not to do. Very disappointed as I made reservations ahead of time, once we arrived we were not seated in the restaurant area but back by the kitchen where everyone was coming in and picking up takeout. Beware that there are two locations, the phone number listed here is for the Rancho Mirage location about ten minutes away! I'm hoping this issue is resolved...yelp you failed me, I ended up driving to pick up my order at the rancho mirage spot, driving to the second location, picking up food, then back to La Quinta added about thirty minutes that I did not plan on wasting tracking down my food! read more

Ouch! I thought we were going to LaQuinta Baking Company for a special Friday night dinner. I was informed that has gone away, and replaced by a mediocre replica of an Italian restaurant. Outstanding meal at Norma's! The mushroom soup was absolutely delicious and then I enjoyed the cannelloni and my husband the spaghetti and meatballs. The sauce on the cannelloni was superb, definitely a lovely home made flavor and I enjoyed every bite. The spaghetti was a huge portion, more than enough for leftovers the next day. Sadly the restaurant was not busy the night we were there, and I am here to tell everyone to run, dont walk to Normas for your next Italian meal. You wont regret it for a minute. admittedly a month ago we went at 7 o'clock and the place was virtually empty. Service was glacially slow. My cannelloni itself was ok but it was drowned by a sea of average red sauce. The chicken in my wife's chicken marsala was OK but it was hidden in a mass of pasta enough to feed 4. A Scotch was overpriced.
