I recently dined at Mario's Italian Cafe when I visited my family in Indio California. It was my first time eating dinner at this location. We all had a very pleasant experience. We were greeting with a smile. Our server was very attentive and friendly. Our food was very tasty, plentiful and hot. I enjoy drinking wine with dinner. Mario's offers $5.00 glasses of wine. Happy Hour a glass is $4.00 until 5:30pm. We did not feel rushed. The restaurant was full. I noticed many carry out orders as well. The music was enjoyable. There are also several TV's in the restaurant. I recommend Mario's Italian Cafe in Indio and look forward to returning on my next visit to California. My grandparents insisted on taking us here for dinner and the experience was great! We arrived at 5 (grandparents!) and were quickly seated, but by the time we left the restaurant was packed! Classic Italian place, nothing too fancy but definitely warm family vibes. Our server was attentive, everyone enjoyed their meals and we all even opted for dessert and coffee! I especially liked the date, feta and spinach pasta - enjoyed trying something unique for an Italian restaurant. It is a family friendly restaurant. The food is comparable to Olive Garden, but greasier. I give it 4 stars for the food, but overall it is great. I am hooked on their torpedo sub. It had a good portion of Italian meats. The bun is fresh and slightly crunchy on the outside. The tomato and lettuce were topped with a splash of Italian dressing. My friend loves the pastrami sandwich. We tried their bruschetta appetizer and we liked it. The meatball is a good size and comes in a bowl of marinara. I heard the italian sausage is good too. I've use this business every couple of years to supply the dishes for an RV dinner. My experience this year was as great as in years past. I sat with the assigned person and she helped me choose dishes that would give my group some veggie, chicken and meat options. The food was hot and ready to be picked up as arranged. Placed an order for pick up, The person that took my order said it would be 45 minutes. Granted this was a late Saturday night, so it was understandable...Went to pick up my order... pizza was cold like it's been sitting there, lasagna was over sauced with big chunks of sausage. The food is great but the service is better! I was fortunate to have Nancy be my server. She definitely is an A+ in my book. The moment I walked into the dining room her welcoming smile and fantastic attitude made me feel as if I was eating in Italy. Her attention to detail was even better- not once did I go thirsty and her recommendation for the chicken salad did not disappoint. And to my surprise, she brought me spumoni. Mario's has several location around the desert area. We prefer the Hwy 111 location in indio. It is always neat and clean with a very attentive staff. Shown to our choice of tables quickly, given menus and drink orders promptly taken and received. They have a really nice extensive menu. The usual pastas and pizzas, but also a nice assortment of seafood and chicken dishes also. Hubby ordered the lasagna. Huge portion, piping hot and really good. A great amount of filling and meat to the noodles. And a really great red sauce. My usual order is their lunch special spaghetti. Again a very large serving (i end up having lunch for 2 days with the leftovers!). Both meals came with tossed salad or soup and garlic bread. Very good hot fresh food. The atmosphere feels really authentic. Red booths and tables and chairs, the Italian music piped in and those wonderful aromas.
