I'm not sure how a place like this gets so many tourists, unless everyone's using Yelp?! Over half the cars here were rentals or from or is state. Lots of the eaters were visiting their kids at the local military schools and installations. It's a cute, traditional diner, with solid service and good food. Three of us had omelets, one a scramble. I popped into Norm's on a whim while visiting New London (my dad went to the CGA and is named Norm, so it seemed appropriate ). Very divey, greasy spoon feel...but the service was amazing, the food was great, and it's clear that it's a popular spot for locals...had a bit of a Cheers vibe going, everybody knows your name. We were visiting from out of town, I checked my phone for breakfast near me. Norm's Diner came up with a lot of good reviews. We went there for breakfast. I got blueberry berry pancakes, my boyfriend got something that was stacked, I can't remember the exact name, eggs, sausage, an English muffin, and a bowl of grits. Our waiter Peter was awesome! Ah the classic diner...a piece of Americana. Norm's is the epitome of that. Having been stationed at the New London Subase since the 1985, much has changed but the one constant has been Norm's. This is classic diner breakfast at its best. There is limited seating but it adds to the homey feel of the diner. Staff was amazing from the second we got there, it was clean and felt really safe. The perfect diner setting and atmosphere. You could hear the sizzling on the grill and it smells like heaven. Then the coffee came, perfect temperature and strong. The food was delicious. We ordered 2 hot cakes with bananas to share, great ratio of pancake to banana. I got the scramble and he ordered the mexican omelette. Portions were big both with potato and toast. Highly recommend Norms! read more

4 stars on Yelp?! First time coming here for breakfast with the boyfriend even though he lives 5 mins down the road. Yelp said this place was 4 stars and since I make every food decision based off of Yelp now, we came here. I ordered my usual breakfast plate: 2 eggs over easy, home fries, wheat toast with a side of corned beef hash. Eggs and potatoes were good, a bit on the greasier side but I expect this from a diner. Toast is generic store brand stuff but came pre-buttered. Not a requirement for me but always a bonus! Corned beef hash was mushy and salty. The meat definitely came from a can, not deserving of 4 stars. My boyfriend got the Mexican omelette. He said that it was ok but later I found out he thinks all breakfast food is consistently "ok" and that he's never had breakfast that he would describe otherwise. Thus, I don't know how much weight his opinion carries on this one. He also got a strawberry milkshake which I tried and that was creamy, sweet, and fabulous. We sat at a booth with clear view of the cook. Service seemed kind of rushed, even flirting with the line between acceptable and rude. The place didn't seem busy but maybe she was preparing for the lunch rush by trying to clear out the booth seats. My boyfriend didn't seem surprised that I was unimpressed with this place, he said that most places in the area are rated high because people feel "nostalgic." Judging from other reviews (ones that mention the workers by name), that is probably the case with Norm's Diner. However, I'd come back for late night munchies since it's open 24 hours on Fridays and Saturdays. Not the worst place to get food at 4am and tbh, probably the only place in the area. read more

Nice little, classic diner! Pure stainless steel building and interior. Simple, good food and lots of it. Everyone was engaging and friendly. Breakfast served fast and hot. The coffee was really good. My full breakfast of a 3-egg cheese omelette, home fries bacon and coffee came to $12, reasonable for the amount. No one rushed me. Found Norm's by accident and went in on a whim - Best greasy spoon food I have had in ages. Biscuits and gravy was incredible, Reuben was absolutely delicious!! And then... Cook came over and we had a fun conversation. Talked about baseball, his tour of duty in Germany, and then in the middle of discussing history, cook refers to Italians as the "G" word. My fiancé, who is Italian, informed cook that he is Italian. Cook says "I'm sorry" and continues to talk about the "G" word Italians. We were so mortified we just got up and left. We had been planning to return in the morning for breakfast, but forget it, Norm, your cook just cost you a customer. We don't expect to go out to eat and be subjected to ethnic slurs from the cook. Horrible experience in that respect. Overshadowed the whole evening. read more

This used to be a good little greasy spoon, now it's a great little restaurant!! I come to Groton a couple times a year and Norm's gets better every time. In the last few years they've really cleaned it up from the previous owner It's very small, max occupancy is 44, but they've made some great efficient improvements. They staff are awesome; Gayle was right there with everything we needed, truly concerned when asking how our food was and stayed long enough to actually listen to our comments. As someone who has never been to the Groton area, going to Norm's was a first. And boy did it impress. The owners (brother and sister) were running the place together, with the brother cooking and the sister waitressing. The brother is an absolute joy to be with and was talking to our party as soon as we walked in. Made us feel at home. Waitress was wonderful as well. BEST SERVICE I HAVE EVER HAD. Food was amazing. I got the western omelette with sourdough and home fries. Our party of four all had our food within 5 minutes of ordering it. Unsurprisingly it was hotter than a midday rock in the California sun and absolutely delicious. It happened to be my birthday and the brother made me a little confetti pancake with whipped cream and a candle. Sister was caring and focused. Best home fries I've had. EVER. Owners knew locals by name. They knew the "usual" orders each one got. By far the best experience I've ever had at a diner. It's a classic local home diner. You will get sass, you will get laughs, you will get love. The food tastes great, the service is always phenomenal, and the hardest part about the meal is often getting in due to how busy they are. After going every so often for years the only thing I would say is to make sure to go about an hour before closing or they will not accept you and to also keep a friendly spirit. If you ever have any problems or say you find something wrong they will always be happy to fix any issues. Also make sure to look at the special board as some are absolutely phenomenal. read more
