A very tender batter. Fresh calamari and sweet and hot peppers was delightful with a hint of heat. House made tomato sauce for dipping was tangy and sweet. The mussels were steaming hot for a while too. The coconut and curry were light, the mussels perfectly cooked and cleaned. Yes, it matters! We ended up taking the salad back to our room and it was tasty as well. Large slices of fresh strawberries, sliced roasted almonds, feta cheese and a dressing that wasn't too heavy, tangy or tart. When walking into Fords i waited a few minutes to be seated in a semi full restaurant. That was no big deal until they proceeded to tell me if there might not be a spot for me and my brother tonight. I said no problem. We waited a few minutes and as we were seated after five minutes, it took us nearly 15 minutes to get the server to come over. We immediately ordered our food then waited another 25 minutes for 2 basic appetizers. I am shocked by the wait time and service of this restaurant. I wouldn't come back. While on a road trip from Boston to NYC my wife and I were staying in Mystic for a couple of nights and found this gem. Not a very big place so I had made reservations just in case. Let's start by saying I am a "Foody!" My family and I like good food and don't mind paying for it but this place needs to be called out! The menu is unique with some of their dishes but its definitely way out of line for what they provide and the service there is absolutely probably the worst I have experienced in years! We started with Lobster cheesey fries for $32.00 which they basically poured some or there lobster bisque soup over some fries and were very skimpy on the lobster that was definately claw and knuckle meat only! The fries were soggy and they may have been better and they were served separately! My wife's main course was the scallops with rosotto. The scallops were good but I have never seen portions so skimpy and cheap in my entire life. The scallops were super thin approximately a half an inch thick! The cut normal scallops in half and then grilled them! Technically, you are getting 2 and a half scallops with rosotto for $40.00! They won't get me back twice for this dish! The shrimp scampy flat bread for around $22.00 was the best food we had there. The ONE DISH that totally made us say we would never return to this restaurant for their featured Lobster Bomb which they highlighted on their instagram post which was a carved out 6 inch loaf of bread with lobster claw meat only which many pieces were gross and rubbery with lobster bisque poured over it which was very mediocre at best for a whapping $62.00! I nearly came unhinged when I saw the bill. We never saw a bite of food for 50 once we were originally seated. It took someone 22 minutes to come over and offer us water. So overall, I apologize to the readers but this is my second trip to this restaurant and I was trying to give it a second try but this time the service and food disappointed so much that I wanted others to take notice! The food was good, and the ambiance was okay, but the service completely ruined the experience. Our waitress, Karie, had a lousy attitude that made the dinner much less enjoyable. When I politely asked, "When you have a moment, can we get a side of ketchup and ranch?" her response was, "I only have two hands." That level of sarcasm was completely uncalled for. She never checked in to see if we needed refills or anything else, and it was hard not to notice how kind and attentive she was to the other tables around us. My husband ordered the lamb chops. Four quarter sized chops...certainly not enough to make a meal out of. I will say the fries were good and the actual little bread bowl was tasty! New to us location, we had been several times to Fords Lobster which we love Great menu at Black and Blue, with options to sit in the bar area or a dining room area. Our waitress Kerrie snapped at my wife when she asked for side plates to come with our muscles starter plate, then we never received them. We had good service and very good food at our first visit to Ford's Black & Blue. Cold weather makes this a decent choice for those who love Ford's but not the cold! The menu of course is entirely different, as is the ambiance. It looks like they are still in the process of putting things together but it is clean, comfortable and well run. The menu is much less lobster-centric and initially that was a disappointment, but my mom had the fish tacos and loved them, and I had the baked cod and loved it, so at the end of the day this is now one of our favorite places to have dinner when I'm in town. I'll be back for certain and will continue to update my review, but for now I highly recommend the fish tacos and the baked cod. I think the New England chowder was decent as well. I'm sort of a chowder (and lobster) snob and I thought it was pretty good. I think most people will love it! Went there for a birthday dinner on a busy weekend. Had to make earlier reservations but worked out fine. It's a smaller place, with a 1/2 level of additional, elevated seating. Very well laid out, with little echo, so it was easy to have a conversation. Hostesses and waitress were very attentive. The menu provides plenty of variation for everyone. It's the 3rd time here, all with different dishes and this time didn't disappoint. I tried the seafood Newburg after wrestling with the specials menu--too many good options. My son ordered the blackened ahi special. Both dishes came out promptly and perfect. The blackened tuna, seared tataki style, with rice and asparagus was a nice portion even for an appetite. The Newburg, usually a heavier dish, was lighter than expected (butter sherry cream), yet had the body to hold up against the lobster, shrimp, scallops and fettuccine. Both were awesome. I went to dinner on a Sunday night. Sat at the bar. I've eaten here before and it was always good. I Ordered Noank clam chowder, ceasar salad and lobster bomb. Bar tender was great but food was not so great. Chowder shows up fast, halfway through my chowder the salad shows up and before I finish my chowder the lobster bomb shows up. So I had my salad for dessert. Just poor service. The Noank chowder was a clear broth with too much pepper. We're huge fans of the original Fords but needed a place that had reservations. (We had a big group of 9.). Fords Black & Blue (FBB) made it super easy to make reservations on OpenTable. It's much more spacious here so it made it kid friendly. There's separate bar area and dining room area. Parking is in/around the building. Service was great. I know FBB is also a steak place but we went for the seafood. Started off with fried calamari and the garlic butter shrimp. The calamari was fried well and super delish with the fried hot cherry peppers. The garlic shrimp with that butter sauce - yum! It was decadent. The cherry tomatoes in it was the perfect acidic bite. For entrees, the lobster avocado grilled cheese is my go-to at the original Fords so I ordered it here. It was perfect! The Texas toast was crisp and great ratio of lobster, cheese, and avocado. We also had lobster risotto (2 of us had that), hot buttered lobster rolls (2 others ordered this) and one fish and chips. We finished everything. No complaints at all. Solid meal. For desserts, the bread pudding was dummy but the blueberry compote cheesecake was divine! Get that if you can. read more
