They have really good pizza.... That is after you wait an hour for it. The reason for the 1 star is the owner. We were seated near a table he was sitting at and he was sitting with another guy and could hear them talk. He would call waitresses over and he was very rude to his own staff, seemed very arrogant. I'm not sure if he was just pretty drunk or if that's the way he is. My server was ok, nothing bad to say about that but nothing noteworthy either. Food was decent. Our server was decent, not memorable. I actually prefer Domino's pizza over theirs. So, I wouldn't drive out of my way again to have their famous "Detroit" pizza. I found their $8.00 burger slightly too expensive. It only includes a single pickle. If you want fries or chips it is extra. Went on Friday evening and I was told by server they are understaffed. I should have left then. We worked with 2 different servers and 1 looked like she hated her job and never said a word. The other was so rude not sure I have experienced service like that before. Chicken wings cooked dry to the bone. Reminded us of the turkey from Christmas Vacation movie. And there was a crowd wait to find spot, we weren't willing to fight for a table once one did become avail so after 30mins of waiting we took our business elsewhere and won't likely be back to try it. Great food, poor service. We've eaten there 4 times, the food is always great! This time we brought a group of 20, our table 1/3, sat without ANY SERVICE AT ALL for over an hour and left without eating. Our friends at the other 2 tables ate and drank. Two things make this place outstanding - their Detroit style pizza (think long, square deep dish with half the sauce on top but double the toppings) and their nachos, which are consistently nachos I crave every few months! Be prepared to often wait for a table as this place gets busy in the evenings, but they have a great beer selection, pull tabs, and arcade machines to pass the time. read more

This review is only for ambience and service. Clearly this place is not set to handle groups. In town for a softball tournament and in between games the team came by to grab a quick bite. Once we found an area to sit, the server came to tell us it would be a minimum of an hour to get food, but maybe will be able to get pizzas in 45 minutes. We did order some pizzas to go since the girls need to eat! We went to play the bean bag toss and realized there were no bags, so put the games back up and one of the girls were yelled at for taking the stands down because we didn't have the bags. Then the bartender continued to the group to tell us "we don't move tables, you need to move it back". Went there for breakfast to find fingerprints all over table and dirty table. No big deal but service slow that day, and they weren't even busy. I got the impression from my view that the kitchen was small and trashy from small view. They need to hire more staff and the manager needs to be present or care. Food was just ok, but massive quantity. Mine was overdone. The food for the quality is way overpriced. We had a white glob in our coffee, caused hurling for real, which more likely cultured old creamer packet. The placed seemed a tad dirty and the bathrooms really showed that, yuck! The staff were caring, young, and eager but the boss puts all the work on just a few young kids, which isn't right for them. We won't be back. Wake up boss whoever you are. Waitress/bartender was not very friendly. Acted like she was in a big hurry when there was barely any costumers there. She didn't write the order down therefore messing up my husbands order. (I'm old school, I wish people would write things down. They can never remember it but pretend like they are some great waiter if they can). She then forgot the dessert for the kids' meals (that we had forgotten about too since we aren't used to kids meals coming with a dessert, and we remembered just has we pulled out of the parking lot. Although we live in San Diego, we visit the Buffalo area often and have been to Norm's probably 10 times. The service has always been adequate and the food is generally pretty good. Our last trip, however, was really disappointing: - We arrived for breakfast this past Saturday around 9AM - The waitress said they were understaffed - okay - understood - After multiple tables around us had arrived after us and had been served, we got the "it's coming", etc. - now it was it was about 9:50AM and one of our guests had to quickly just get some fruit to go. - At around 10:20 or so, I asked about our food and then the scurrying began - Each of the 6 people at our table were served partially what they ordered and each arrival of food was about 5 minutes apart - Eggs arrived and then the pancakes 10 minutes later (burned and had to be returned), but now the eggs were cold - They missed a bacon order and quickly brought out a plate of soggy, partially cooked pile of fatty bacon - Coffee refills were rare, the waitress was rattled, we were very nice - Norm was there and didn't look too happy as we saw him personally returning plates of food to the kitchen - Probably an off day by all, but we have noticed the service slipping the last few times in the restaurant - We never beg for or ask for refunds (partial or entire) as we believe it is up to the restaurant to "do what is right". I asked my wife to pay the bill so I wouldn't say anything. However, after 2 hours to get breakfast with the final product being mediocre to poor at best, there wasn't even a sniff of an apology let alone an offer to take something off the tab. - We will be in again due to the proximity, however, with a lot less enthusiasm. I sincerely hope this Yelp helps provide feedback that is needed and is taken constructively. When we are in town, we are usually treating 4-8 people at the restaurant. read more

A great place, can't wait to go again. Good food, good music, good prices and fun. A restaurant has been at this location since my older brother was a kid, and danced for other patrons for peanuts. About 50 years. The location had the kiss-of-death form many years. But I hope Norm's is here to stay. We were there last Saturday night, the wife and the boys. They got a Pastrami sandwich and a couple of the cheese pizzas off the kid's menu. I got the messy burger, we got fried pickles and a side of onion rings. Good food and good portions. I love spicy food, but the messy burger was too much, sweating, watery eyes and gut ache. They had a band, usually regrettably with two small kids, and no longer in my 20s, but the Everett Smithson was wonderfully different from my single days. American Roots music, not to loud and the boys were fascinated and the wife tolerant. My kind of music. Mark your calendar for March 11th. I would have gave it 5 stars had I been offered a mucho picante version of the messy burger and if we would have gotten a broken down bill, but the bottom line was okay. read more

My girlfriend and I went in on a weekday evening. It was not what I expected to see inside. It's more of a 1990's sports bar theme. Very low budget, boring, unappealing. I ordered the fried chicken dinner. The batter used for the chicken was 80% salt. I took a big bite of the chicken breast and then spit it out. Let my girlfriend try a piece. Her eyes bulged. I told the waitress the issue. She said "that's terrible, i'm so sorry." She then proceeded to walk away. Did not see her for the next 25 minutes while I ate from my girlfriend's plate. GREAT pizza. Absolutely delicious. But the place was super crowded and the service was absolutely horrendous. I was there with a group of 8 friends before we went to see a show. Many of us never got the drinks we asked for, it took a very long time to order, and then there was much confusion with the food. We ordered cheesy bread, fried pickles, 2 pizzas, and 3 burgers. When the servers brought us our food, they only had one pizza. She asked who had the pizza. I asked what was on it, since we ordered 2 pizzas. She was very rude and said "well, there's only one pizza" I said "no, we ordered 2 pizzas, and we don't know who gets this one until we know what the toppings are". She acted like it was a huge inconvenience to tell us what toppings were on the pizza. She told us our other pizza would be back. Several minutes later (my friends were almost done with their pizza by this time) she came back and said "my bad, I forgot to put the order for your pizza in." She didn't apologize beyond "my bad", nor did she offer us any sort of a comp. WE didn't get our pizza until everyone else at the table was done eating. Again, we never got an apology, and more drinks that were ordered never came (my friend gave up and went to the bar to get her own drinks) It took well over 10 minutes to get our tab. She came back several times, asking who had what and how it was to be divided. I understand that we had a larger group, and we were asking her to split the bill. If this was a problem, she could have told us she couldn't split the bill and we would have taken care of it between us at the table. However, instead, she kept disappearing and then coming back and asking once again who ordered what. After waiting 10-20 minutes, we finally went to the bar to get our tab, because it was getting very late and we had a show to get to. Our server finally found us and basically blamed us for the delay/mix-up with the bar tabs because we had asked for them to be split up and the computer would only do it a certain way, etc. She made no effort to apologize, and placed the blame on us. (Again, had she told us they couldn't do separate tabs, we would have taken care of it amongst us at the table. But by the time we realized what a challenge this was for her to split our bill, it had gotten very complicated, we were running late, there were several different tabs that were completely mixed up, and it was a huge mess) We were offered $3 off our pizza (that they completely forgot to make and didn't bring to us until the rest of our friends were done eating) but I had to ASK for a discount. Really, really horrible service, which is too bad because the food was phenomenal. read more

Went to Norm's Wayside tonight for the first time. What a disaster!! Happy Hour drink prices were great, but that's where the good time ends! We watched as the inept waitresses messed up EVERY order around us, then 20 minutes after we were seated a very frazzled waitress came to ask if we were ready to order (we had to get our own menus from the bar area). I ordered a 1/4 pound burger with cheese and lettuce/tomato (each .75 extra). On the menu there was a choice of cheese, I wasn't asked which I wanted. Hubby ordered a pizza, hand tossed. Another 20 minutes passed and our order came. Everything.Was.Cold! My burger didn't have lettuce/tomato, and had american "cheese food" rather than real cheese. The menu said all burgers were fresh, never frozen. WRONG! This burger was a food service burger if I've ever seen one. Not good at all. Really bad in fact. Hubby's pizza was cold as I've said, and MUSHY. Just really bad. All during our meal we watched as one inept waitress after another screwed up other peoples orders. Table next to us with 6+ people ordered 3 large pizzas. EVERY SINGLE ONE was wrong. The waitress really didn't know what she was doing. There were a gaggle of unsupervised children running all over the place, nearly knocking down both staff and customers. They were throwing the rubber darts at the dart boards as if they were throwing baseballs... seemed like they were trying to break something, and at one point, I thought they had. One of the waitresses had left her drink on the railing next to the dart boards for some strange reason. While it sat there, I watched these wild acting children put the darts into the drink, put their "who knows how long ago they washed their hands" fingers in the drink, pulling the lime in and out. The waitress then walked over and picked up her drink, the kids said nothing, only laughed. The waitress proceeded to drink that nasty concoction of filth. Ewwwww! While we were waiting for our bill, one of the previously mentioned waitresses rushed by, slammed down a receipt and a few dollars and some change as if it was our change after paying our bill. Had I not had my credit card in hand waiting for someone to come and take it so I could pay and get the he** out of there, she would have left it and rushed off. So sad. We had been talking about going to Norm's for some time but just never got there. I think back now and wish I could get a re-do on the last 120 minutes of my life. I certainly wouldn't drive to Buffalo, MN and eat at Norm's Wayside. It was a waste of my time, money and brain cells. Needless to say, we will NEVER be back, and will certainly tell everyone we know to steer clear of this establishment. read more

I am not sure what happened to my review I posted earlier this week. But here goes again. I visited this establishment a few days after they opened. The service was horrible then and just as bad today. After having to seat ourselves and after 10 mins, we were finally approached by a waitress to take our drink order and provide menus. We waited another 10 mins while we watched our waitress clean the table next to us not bothering to look our way to acknowledge us or take our order. That was enough for me. If you are looking for great food and good service this is not the place to go. The food is good, but the service is horrible. The bartenders don't even look at you when you go to get your drink because the waitress hasn't came around for a half hour + since we walked in! Took us 45 mins to get a drink and had to go get it ourselves. The place wasn't that busy and there were 2 waitresses and a bartender, maybe 30 people there. There were seven of us and we all spent approximately $75 each sat outside because it was a beautiful day but had to go in and get our own drinks and then when our pizza came out the waitress told us it was inside and we had to go get it ourselves. Nice place Norm, we are glad that you are trying to make a go at. But the service is the worst in Buffalo. If you are gong to offer patios and outside fun, you need to have service outside. read more
