Formal Complaint Regarding Our Experience with Norse Atlantic Airways I want to share the horrific experience my wife and I had while flying with Norse Atlantic Airways from Rome to New York, a flight of approximately nine hours. My wife is six months pregnant, and as you can imagine, sitting for an extended period of time has become increasingly uncomfortable for her. I had originally purchased a Premium ticket because I was extending a business trip, and my wife decided to join me. As a result, she was traveling on a regular ticket and was seated toward the back of the aircraft. Before boarding, we spoke with the staff at the gate and were given the option to upgrade to Premium, which made us aware that there were Premium seats available. Once I boarded the aircraft, I explained our situation to the flight attendants. I specifically explained that my wife was six months pregnant and would likely become increasingly uncomfortable during the nine hour flight. I asked whether, if there were unoccupied Premium seats after takeoff, she might be permitted to move up so that she could be more comfortable. Instead of showing any understanding or compassion for the situation, the flight attendants immediately focused on charging an additional $350 for her to move to Premium. At the time, there appeared to be approximately 6-8 unoccupied Premium seats. I understand that airlines have policies regarding seating and upgrades, but the complete lack of flexibility or consideration for a six month pregnant passenger was extremely disappointing. I had simply hoped that the crew might show some compassion and allow my pregnant wife to sit in one of the clearly available Premium seats if the seats remained empty after takeoff. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Immediately after takeoff, I switched seats with my wife. A short time later, I wanted to check on her because I knew she was becoming increasingly uncomfortable from the swelling and pressure associated with sitting for such a long period of time while pregnant. As I attempted to walk toward the front of the aircraft to check on her, I was stopped by the flight attendants and told that I was not permitted to go to the front. I simply wanted to check on my pregnant wife and make sure she was okay. Rather than showing any understanding, the flight attendants became increasingly stern and unprofessional. I was ultimately given three options: 1. Return to my original seat in the back. 2. Pay an additional $350 to upgrade. 3. If I did not accept either option, they threatened to involve the authorities. I found this response completely disproportionate to the situation. I was simply trying to check on my six month pregnant wife during a nine hour international flight. The situation became even more disturbing a couple of hours later. Because we had left our respective bags at our original seats so that we would not have to repeatedly disturb other passengers, my wife came to the back of the aircraft to check on me and retrieve something from her bag. As soon as she did, a flight attendant yelled at her and ordered her to return to her seat. Shortly afterward, the same flight attendant followed her to her seat and told her that she had better have gotten everything she needed from her bag because she would not be permitted to leave that section of the aircraft for the next eight hours. The flight attendant spoke to my wife in an extremely rude and aggressive manner and threatened that if she got up again, the authorities would meet us at the gate. My wife was so upset by the way she was spoken to and threatened that she began to cry. This was particularly disturbing given that she was six months pregnant and was simply attempting to retrieve an item from her own bag and check on her husband. Her food was also with me in the back, and she was unable to access it even though she was pregnant and hungry. In addition, we couldn't eat the plane food because we keep kosher, so the food was a necessity for her. We were essentially prevented from even checking on or assisting one another because we were seated in different cabin classes. The entire flight crew was made aware of the situation, and I was treated as though I had done something seriously wrong simply for trying to make sure my pregnant wife was okay. I was effectively singled out by the crew for the remainder of the flight. There was also no Wi-Fi available, meaning I could not even message my wife to check on her. A great deal is you travel lean. I thought I got a great place but the luggage fee was just as expensive as the ticket. Also, when I checked in, I found out there allowance for cabin luggage was very limited. I had a backpack and it did not fit their requirements. Another $85 fee. The airline sent a notice saying our flight times changed and if we wanted a full refund we could apply for one. Talked it over and the change totally threw off our plans given we have small children. I went to the site and it kept booting me out. Called customer service to claim my refund and thats when the nightmare began. They said when I went to the website their records indicated I confirmed the reservation change. I explained I did not and wanted a refund. After going back and forth with the rep, he put me on hold and came back that he could process the refund for a fee of $250 .... I used Norse Atlantic on a recent trip to Europe. This is a budget airline where anything you need, you'll have to pay. You want to bring carry-on luggage for the overhead compartment? You have to pay. You want to select your seat? you have to pay? You want a meal? You have to pay. You want drinks? You have to pay, including for water. A couple of practical tips: - They don't have an app, so you can't check-in online; you'll have to get the boarding pass in person. - If you want to use the entertainment center, bring your own wired headphones. They don't give out headsets, and if you have a pair of wireless ones you're screwed. They fly from JFK Terminal 7, which is one of the worst terminals in a bad airport. Don't expect many amenities or food/bar choices while you wait at the gate. My trip was uneventful, which is good. You really see how good/bad an airline is when there are problems. Just flew them Premium Economy from JFK to Berlin and back. It was EXCELLENT! We must remember this is a budget airline, so don't expect them to have lemon for your ginger ale. But the value and comfort are tremendous. The seat - the only real thing that's important about a long haul flight, was so comfortable, more of a "business class lite" before most business class had fully-flat seats on long flights. But the seat is MUCH BETTER than anything any US airline flies domestically, by far (except for JetBlue MINT). Much better than their "first class" seats which are awful. Anyway, the attendants were great and even the most was mostly tasty. DRAWBACK: currently they fly out of Terminal 7 at JFK which is a nightmare due to construction which will tear it down and replace it. Had to take a bus from the plane on the tarmac to the terminal, and no UBER pickup! Get ready for a rickety old NYC taxi. But the airline? Flew with these guys again recently entry. ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. Paid 450 bucks for an upgrade and basically got nothing. Broken seat. No meal available. Asked for refund. There is literally no way at all to ever speak to a human being about any issues that you have. Everything must be done through email which they don't exactly rush to respond to. They refused the refund and told me that none of the amenities supposedly part of the upgrade are actually guaranteed. Of course, they only informed me of that when I was asking for the refund no one told me that beforehand. I am now taking them to small claims Court for the amount of money they owe me. If you're going to fly this airline at all, do not waste money on an upgrade. read more

I would give negative starts if I could. I bought a ticket 3 months in advance and paid extra for seat selection $75 each for my family of 4 to sit together. Well they ended up selling one of our window seats and splitting us up in different rows with zero explanation. The guy who took my window seat said he purchased his ticket 5 days before the flight. Still waiting for them to respond to my emails. So they had two people pay for seat selection for the same seat. Have a flight booked for April 10th, got an email today saying we got are rebooked for the 9th? I contacted customer service to see what was going on and they said they contacted us on January 4th to tell us about the change in flight which was false. They also informed us that there is no flight on April 10th which is a lie as that's what we had booked. Now it seems we need to find another night at a hotel if our flight even make it's since all i read is horrible stuff about this airline. I do want to tell people if you're looking to save a little $$$ don't do it. It's not worth the stress and confusion. Fly with bigger trustworthy airlines like Delta. Norse Scam- "Too bad, it's more when you go home! "I had to fly Norse with a tour to Norway that I booked. I sent several emails to Norse and the Tour company, Exoticca to inquire about my luggage, if it had been paid and I received no answers. I brought a small suitcase and a nylon purse which met the requirements LAX-Oslo. On return, I was scammed. The same nylon purse, that fit int he slot was determined not to fit because (get this) the side of the purse touched the metal when it was in??? The Gestapo Dressed Agent who determined this said, "The sides of the purse can't touch anything". This makes no sense as then Norse is saying that a small purse must be two inches smaller when inside of metal thing? I felt as if I was on a hidden camera show, the purse slid in and came out . The female check in person said, "Too bad, it's more when you go home" and inferred that if i wanted to go home, to pay. $250 for a purse and small check in bag.... I really only use Yelp to write positive reviews but my recent experience with Norse has been horrific. Yesterday, prior to flying from Rome to NYC (FCO-JFK), we received an email to arrive to the airport as early as possible due to an Italian workers strike that was taking place at the airport. When we got to the terminal, we waited in line to check in for over two hours. We were pretty patient and understanding, figuring this was not the fault of the airline and that this was due to uncontrollable circumstances. We had no idea what the next 24 hours would look like. Shortly after checking-in, our flight was delayed, but only by one hour. Again, this really didn't effect our group and we were happy to spend the extra time grabbing snacks and hanging out by the gate. Right after we boarded the plane, everyone was informed that we would be sitting at the gate a little longer because only one of the two air conditioning units were working and they were working on fixing the other one. Four hours and 90° later, we were still sitting in the plane at that gate with no answers. People were undressing, all of the safety manuals had become fans and a pregnant woman had fainted and been removed by ambulance. Though many passengers had been begging after hour one to be allowed off the plane, the pilot didn't find it necessary until this point to do so. I will note, however, that all of the flight attendants were extremely patient and accommodating, asking the pilot and above staff for updates so that we could have some information. By the time we were disembarked, the terminal we had originally entered the aircraft on, was closed. At this point, they had to shuttle us by bus from the plane to an open terminal. Once we arrived there, all of the passengers had to go the TSA once more, just so that we had somewhere to sit and wait for the bus back. 30 minutes after going through security, we were informed that the AC was fixed and that we would be able to get on another bus back to the original terminal and board our plane. While our original departure was 6:55pm, it was now 1:00am. I will say, the rest of the flight was smooth sailing. It was a long flight (9 and a half hours) but pretty comfortable and seamless. After landing, U.S. customs took another hour to get through- again, not the airlines fault, but you could imagine our frustration once we got through, assuming we were finally "home free", to find Norse had lost our luggage. Still trying to stay positive, I assured my boyfriend, who had now gone 24 hours without food and had just been on a plane for 15 hours, that everything would be okay. That this happens all the time and once we file our claim, we will be contacted with the information about the bags whereabouts and would be able to have it shipped to us. That was before I found the website below, which is a domain purchased and dedicated to all of Norse's past customers who had their luggage lost by the airline and never saw it again. A few months back Norse emailed me that the return flight was moved to 10/28 which altered my entire short trip, and cost me money to change my other flights and hotels. Today I got another even more ridiculous change! My return flight was moved to 10/25! What on earth!! How am I supposed to fly out from Boston on October 25 - overnight and return on October 25? Like another recent review, I too was on Flight N0401 from FCO to JFK on 9/29. I can confirm it took two hours to check in for this flight and that the line to Norse stretched halfway across the airport, unseen for any other airline in an incredibly busy airport. I can confirm that we were kept on an airplane that reached truly horrible temperatures over the course of four hours and that multiple people experienced varying degrees of distress, including one pregnant individual who was removed and taken by ambulance after losing consciousness. I can confirm that we were disembarked onto a tarmac, taken across the airport, put BACK through security, and herded like cattle from gate to gate until we were finally re-boarded. I can confirm that this flight took off more than 6 hours late after we were repeatedly told by the captain "just another 30 minutes." I can also confirm that Norse has ignored regulation EU-261 regarding compensation for delayed flights, and that they have ignored multiple emails. Absolutely the worst flying experience of my entire life, and the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I would truly walk to my destination before booking a flight with this airline again. read more

I haven't left a Yelp review in years, but Norse airlines has earned a login worthy one. I'm going to run facts from my experience with this airline, listing reasons I'd never consider flying with them again...and would never recommend or risk booking with them for any clients through my travel agency. -they're an overseas low budget airline comparable to Spirit -they advertise as low cost but will charge you for any and everything that normally comes as complimentary, especially for a long international flight. I attempted to add meals prior to boarding but had issues with checking in ahead online as well as adding meals. Come to find out after being inflight you must pay for all meals. Nothing is complimentary, not even water lol. Be sure to eat before boarding or bring food and water from the airport. The food options don't look so appealing especially for the price. The couple next to me bought a few food items because they had no choice, only to find out at the last hour of the flight all food had now been dropped to 50% off smh!! -I travel quite a bit and have been to many countries, therefore have flown with different airlines, Norse is the first and Most High willing the last I'd run across that'll charge you for your carryon as well smfh. If you pay for your luggage before check-in online (the only thing I was successfully able to do on the site while buying the flight other than paying for a seat) carryon is 40 euros and standard 50 lbs luggage is 70 euros. Only other airline that does this bait ish is Spirit airlines. As I said earlier, they'll manage to make you pay for any and everything, whereas you may as well book with a better, much more reputable airline off top if we'll ultimately be paying the same price smfh. And get this...the night before I was supposed to be flying out with Norse but missed my connection (which I'll explain more about later) a Norse rep was attempting to charge me a total of $250 for my carryon and checked standard luggage which was absolutely bogus!! -As stated before they're a low budget airline, so that comes with a small team of airline reps at the counter and short operation times. They literally don't open their checkin counters until about 4pm, this could only be the case with Paris, and they close their checkin 1 hour before the boarding of their last and really only flight of the evening/day. Checkin closes at 7pm sharp. Hince a big factor in me missing my connecting flight from Royal Air Maroc to Norse in different a terminal. BTW, don't count on the on-site reps to help you with anything, concerns or missed connections all has to be done via email or phone smfh. Before 4pm and after 7pm Norse is a fn desert town, not a customer service rep in sight. -The staff isn't the most friendly, not expecting most airport employmees to be. But Norse's staff is just cringe lol. -I missed my first connecting flight due to a 3 way shared issue between Royal Air Maroc, Hopper and Norse. Royal Air Maroc because they were late 20 minutes taking off from Casablanca Marocco, I hadn't arrived inside Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport until close to 30 minutes after landing waiting for the aircraft to find a place for us to deplane, deplane and transfer to a shuttle bus, shuttle bus to the terminal, go to the carousel to grab my checked luggage in order to recheck with Norse, go through immigration to be stamped, rush out of terminal 2B to get to terminal 3 via airport train, walk a bit to get to the actual terminal 3 with luggage in tow, find Norse's tiny area of counters to recheck my bag, to find out I just missed the cut off whereas the flight wasn't taking off for another hour. HOPPER-Swears I had enough time considering all of these factors to get to my connecting flight, although I purchased connection protection they managed to avoid compensating me for this chaos and paying to rebook my next flight. So I spent 24 hours in the airport having to wait the following evening to catch Norse's next flight home after purchasing another ticket. Norse wouldn't reimburse me, they marked me as a no show although I was there they just closed an hour prior to takeoff, which is unheard of. Prior to this flight, I had never heard of Norse and I really wish it would have remained that way. They're a 1 and done never again for me and I would never recommend them to family, friends, clients or strangers lol. I had a great round trip flight from Miami to London premium economy for about a thousand dollars less than any of the other airlines and since premium economy is their highest level they really treat you like royalty on board! The only issue is that they only fly into London Gatwick airport which is about a 90 minute drive from the center of town. My friend and I loved our Norse Atlantic flights, but we hated the check-in process in Los Angeles. That needs profound improvement! However, after tackling the check-in we boarded our flight and found the flight attendants to be very nice, very attentive, kind, funny and helpful. Worse customer care experience, starting with the guy on the check in line to the computer ones. They are so rude and greedy. They always lose passengers baggage and lost my carry-on because they said it was a low-weight checked bag, when it clearly was small enough to be put in the overhead cabin as a carry-on! They charged me $345 for 2 checked bags of 50 lbs and 70 lbs and 1 carry-on, and had the nerve to lose my luggage afterwards. You have to pay for EVERYTHING, even a cup of water you don't get for free on a 9 hour flight. read more
