I purchased a firearm online and selected North American Firearms from their list of FFL's that were local to me after I sent over a quick email confirming the service and fee. Communications were handled via email and everything went as smooth as it could. Bernadette and Jeff are some of the friendliest people that I've met in this community and I will certainly be doing business with them again in the future. One thing to note - some FFL's will start the waiting period at the time of sale as described by the Illinois State Police as it relates to gun sales and transfers. Some FFL's will start the waiting period as soon as you fill out the Form 4473. It's neither here nor there as to who is doing this correctly but at the end of the day, your FFL policies is what you end up following. North American Firearms starts the clock upon filling out the 4473 so just keep this in mind. Best bet is to make the online purchase, head over to fill out the 4473, and by the time your firearm is received by them your background check should be clear and you're good to go. read more

PLEASE READ- YOU DON'T WANT TO LOSE YOUR FOID CARD I have relatives that live in the area and visited them for the holidays. We decided to go to this shop since Article 2 was fully booked at the range. Upon walking in, we were shouted at to close the door by a heavyset guy who said he is the owner but the then pointed and said the "real owner" is over there. She was an older woman with bleach blonde hair. She said she was the janitor, as she walked around telling us to stop putting finger prints on the glass encasements. My nephew asked to see some of the inventory and the heavyset guy who was also eating on the glass encasement where I was told not to touch ask for our credentials. My nephew gave his FOID card and I gave my license from out of state. The so called heavyset owner asked me if I work for law enforcement and I said no. I thought that was odd! I told him that I'm a radiologist and he laughed and said, "oh so you think you're hot stuff." He then asked me a bunch of random questions. This place is the most unprofessional and unwelcoming shops I've ever been to. Upon doing my research and reading previous reviews. The shops previous owner(Blonde woman) lost her license and therefore had her son, the heavyset guy acquire a license to operate. They were doing illicit transactions which caused her to lose her license. This place is TERRIBLE!! Stay away. was hoping this review would not have to left and I would be able to work things out with these people, but unfortunately here I am... I used to consider Jeff and Bernadette friends. If they are comfortable with screwing over a homeless vet with a super rare disease whom they've done business with for two decades, they'll screw you too. Unfortunately since September of last year they have done nothing but screw me around while admitting verbally, thru txt message and emails of blatant malfeasance. Below is a copy/paste of the complaint I just filed with the Illinois Attorney General. I also now have my local Navajo County Sheriff, their local Lombard police, the Illinois State Police and the ATF getting involved. If they force me to due so, once my SSDI claim is approved, I will return to Illinois and sue them in court for everything we can, even if it costs me. Here is the complaint: I am a homeless vet. I suffer from a very rare neurological disease. As a result of the VA's inability to properly care for me nor 'Community Care Act' reference me out of the system for proper care I was brought to the brink of suicide on August 10th of 2024. As a result of the subsequent 4 day stay at the VA hospital I was red flagged in the beginning of Sept of 2024. As soon as I received that letter, regardless of my disagreement with that law, I brought all of my firearms to 'my friends' at North American Firearms in Lombard, IL to be immediately sold. By this time I was also in the process of moving out of state on the recommendation of my doctor. I am now homeless in the desert of AZ. In the almost year since I've been gone, N.A.F. has sent me 3 checks. One for $250 & two for $500. The 2 $500 payments have only very recently been sent and I still don't actually have on hand.... I dropped off over $8,000 of firearms, ammunition and accessories. They are now telling me most of the firearms are sold, but for far less money than was agreed too, & THEY'RE NOT EVEN SENDING ME THAT. They have acknowledged both to myself and my sister who is still in the area that they quite simply don't have the money due to their recent unexpected forced move... So they're acknowledging to me they sold my firearms and used my money without my consent to help them move. When I asked for the sales records for the transactions, to confirm what's actually been sold and for what money, because to be blunt I no longer believe them, they told both my sister and myself THAT ALL RECORDS OF MY FIREARMS TRANSACTIONS HAVE BEEN LOST. They cannot lose these records They have to maintain them for the Illinois State Police & The ATF FOR TEN YEARS. They are either lying to me about the sales or they're lying to me about the loss of FFL paperwork. Which is a federal crime and a bold strategy. My doctor told me last year to stop working, keep your stress at zero and relax Well that's pretty hard when people you considered friends are lying and robbing you while I'm homeless and was counting on that money to get me thru my ssdi claim. I have been in contact with both the Illinois State Police as well as the ATF, and although those balls start rolling slowly, they are rolling I have also filed police reports regarding the incident with both the Navajo County Sheriff's office,pr#2507-0282, per the direction of the Lombard Police as well as a police report with Lombard, Illinois, pr#LOPC25004111 I have to assume that Illinois does not want their firearms dealers conducting business in such a fashion. Everybody says they care about homeless vets. Well I need somebody to start caring about me real quick. JUST STAY AWAY. ****CAUTIOUS****PLEASE READ I'm been in the firearm industry as a collector, enthusiast, and as a proud American for over 30 years and have never seen such an unprofessional and unethical business like this. Upon doing due diligence on the owners, there have been several violations that mandated a transfer or sale of ownership. The previous owner Bernadette was selling firearms before background checks cleared and therefore the ATF pulled her FFL license and in which she then transferred the business to her son(Jeff). She claims to be the "Janitor" and her son Jeff said she's the real owner. Secondly, upon being in the establishment twice, they WILL NOT call you if your firearm is ready for pickup. YOU have to go there in person to confirm it was delivered and cleared the mandatory gun periods. They WILL NOT answer the phone either. I've been in the industry a long time and this place has the most unprofessional, lazy, and rude staff. The on paper owner(Jeff) was eating a beef sandwich from PORTILLOS on the counter then inspected my firearm and got it filthy and smelling like hot gardinera. I asked for him to wipe his hands first and he then replied "Well if you want your firearm, I have to inspect it or you can tell me another FFL to transfer it to and you can wait another week." UNPROFESSIONAL, RUDE, & PURE DISRESPECTFUL. Lastly, the first time walking in to sign my paperwork, the so called "Owner" (Jeff) sold a gentleman a 50rd box of 9mm ball ammo for $150. That poor guy didn't know a damn thing about guns or ammo and you can tell it was his first gun for protection. When he left, the staff joked and how "STUPID" people are. I was appalled and never said anything. I REGRET not standing up for this man. It's sad to see law abiding Americans get ripped off by businesses and people like this during harder times. North American Firearms is everything a great gun shop should be! It is a great place for new shooters, old shooters, hunters, collectors and anyone interested in firearms. The staff is knowledgeable, understanding and caring for everyone that stops in. I've seen them help customers find a better deal online than the one they were eager to purchase when they walked in (some places I've been to are greedy and simply want you to fork over your hard-earned money for the highest price out there, this place is much more down-to-earth and talks with the customer and really tries to help get the customer what they want at the best price there is). They respect all the firearms in their shop. I cannot stress enough how important it is that the firearms themselves are handled with care (not just by customers, but by the staff). Many places I've been are staffed by idiots who have no idea slamming a revolver cylinder shut or excessive dry firing can really mess up a firearm. The people at North American Firearms understand how to care for and handle with respect each and every firearm in their store. I feel good purchasing firearms from them knowing my purchase has been cared for before me. If you're thinking about stopping in do it! It's worth the trip just to see some of the cool things they've had for sale in their shop. I cannot say enough good things about this place. I have used them as an FFL and have ordered guns directly through them. While the staff may seem a little rough around the edges they are unbelievably friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Best prices around, especially if you don't plan to pay with a credit card. Small local store, that treats you how you want to be treated. The kind of place that will remember you over a year later. They are alway happy to answer questions for you. Great place to go if you're unsure about what you want and are too intimidated to ask for help from the grump old men you find at most gun shops. And as far as comparing this place to a Bass Proshop or Cabela's, it's not even possible, NAF blows those places out of the water. I walked in, place is not as updated as some other stores, but at the end of the day, level of service was top notch. This does not apply to North American Firearms. The second I walked into the small family run shop, I felt welcome as a customer, and even going through the process of filling out the paper work, and completing a transfer for a Firearm I purchased online, they made me feel comfortable, the process as easy as they could make it, and as I watched their interactions with other customers, I picked up this is a really great business, that truly cares about all of their customers, old and new. This was, hands down, the worst retail experience I have ever had. After doing my research and trying out guns at ranges like GAT Guns in East Dundee and Article II in Lombard, I decided on the gun I wanted. Now, it was a common handgun that I could have gone into Bass Pro Shop or Cabellas for but I was trying to support a local business so I gave North American Firearms a shot. I spoke with Bernadette on the phone and came into the store to fill out the paperwork and pay for the gun (in full, which I assumed was typical). She told me it would be here in 3 business days, shook my hand, and said "thank you for your business." I was feeling pretty good about the transaction, and had the story ended here, they would have probably gotten a 5-star review from me. But no, this was just getting started. Business day three comes and goes, and I hear nothing. I place a call the next day but no one answers (the first of many such calls). I stop by the store after work at 6:30, but it is closed (hours say till 7pm). My aggravation level begins to rise. I continue placing calls, leaving messages and getting no response. The next week I get through to Bernadette's son and he says they will email a tracking number so I know when it is coming in. I never receive the email. I go on a business trip for one week in which I still hear nothing from them. Upon my return I redouble my efforts in placing phone calls that continue to go unanswered. I also notice the have cashed my check. At this point they have taken my money and I still have nothing. Now I understand that there can be problems with suppliers, and shipments can be delayed. But at the very least I would have liked at least one attempt from them to CONTACT ME and let me know what is going on. I was sincerely worried that I had just been conned out of $750+ and that is a really crappy feeling. By business day 20 I had enough and went into the store to get my money back (I made sure to go in during the early afternoon to make sure someone was there). Bernadette didn't even come out of the office; she wrote the check and had her son bring it to me. She didn't even have the guts to come out and apologize to me, or give me the opportunity to give her a piece of my mind. Also there was an unidentified woman visibly sobbing in the office; I have no clue what that was about. I then immediately drove up the street to Article II. Not only did they have the gun in stock but they gave me a better price on it. They told me I could pick it up after the three day waiting period, and I was not required to pay in full up front. I am kicking myself for not going there first. To summarize, North American Firearms is not a business, it is a family run s***show. They violated all of the following standard business practices: -Answering the phone during business hours -Being open during stated business hours -Alerting customers to any problems with their order -Giving any form of apology or attempt to contact a customer even after repeated phone messages. How this place continues to function is beyond me, especially with large outdoor retailers (Bass Pro, Cabellas, etc.) and another far superior gun store and range just up the street. read more

I can't even begin to say how amazing this business is. Bernadette and Jeff are fantastic, knowledgeable, professional, and just downright awesome people. They're always more than willing to answer any questions we have and go through everything we'd need to know. It's a family business so you definitely get that 'family' service, it's much better than going to any of those large chains. Bernadette is always more than happy to order anything she doesn't have in stock, they also offer gun cleaning services through another individual as well. Also, if you do find something online that you want to order from another dealer you can have it shipped to her store too for a fee, which can be extremely beneficial if you find something for significantly less. It truly is a 'one stop shop' for anything you'd need, if she doesn't have it she can get it or she can point you in the right direction. Her prices are extremely reasonable and on target or less than what you'd find in the area or at other local gun shops. Bernadette and Jeff truly love what they do and it shows. They treat you with respect and appreciation, especially if you're a LEO or military. I honestly sometimes like just going over there to hang out and see what's going on, Bernadette has great stories and always seems to know about all the local 'happenings'. I've also never seen this place empty! I think everyone who has ever gone in there shares the same sentiment as i do. Oh and the prices listed are the cash prices, if you want to use a credit card it's an extra 2% so you're better off bringing in the green. This place is great...I was a first time gun buyer with moderate knowledge from my past experience in the Marine Corps. Bernadette and her team made me feel very comfortable and were extremely patient with all questions about the different calibers and brands. Let it be known that she takes care of Veterans as well. They also recommended a great instructor for me to apply for my conceal carry permit. I highly recommend this shop regardless if you are a first time buyer or looking to add to your collection. Oh please! I have read fake reviews before but there is no way possible this place received the reviews listed on this site. The positive reviews have to be from friends and family. I walked in to the extremely small, dirty and disorganized store to look for a gun. There was an old guy sitting on a stool with his legs spread out to the middle of the floor talking to 3 employees. Not one said hello or anything. I looked through the gun cases but couldn't look where I wanted to since they were gathered in front of the case I would have looked at. Never occurred to them to move when they saw me looking at the case next to it. Finally, one of them said "what you need dude". I decided to tell him exactly what I was looking for. He said let me see your FOID dude. I showed him and he tossed it on the counter and walked away. Came back from the back room with the model gun I was looking for. I looked at it and noticed it was used and abused. I mentioned this and they guy said, "hey that's what I got. If you want a new one I'll have to order it". so as he sat down to look up a price a customer came in to pick up his gun, after the 3 day wait period. The you kid who helped him asked the guy who had been looking up a price for me to check the records for the customer and make sure he was ok to pick it up. Off the salesman went. I waited about 15 minutes and decided to leave. The customer was talking to another guy who was texting on his phone. Heard that he was the owner. This same guy heard, and knew I was waiting for a price and did nothing but text on his phone. Keep in mind the store is only like 25' x 20" so he had to have heard. As I walked out not one of the other two employees nor the owner even looked up or said anything. A total waste of time. Went elsewhere and bought the gun. do yourself a favor, go in for yourself. North American Firearms has probably the most friendliest workers and great customer service around in the firearm industry that I have ever seen. Bernadette and her son are always so friendly and professional as you enter into the door. Although I live in Chicago, I don't ever mind making the trip to Lombard since I know without any doubt that I will be treated great and fast service. ****PLEASE READ**** The staff is very rude, unprofessional, and very shady. When you make a transfer, they DO NOT CALL you to pick up your firearm, but instead I had to confirm delivery via the carrier. They do not answer the phone either because they say they are busy, yet when I go there, the so called "owner" comes out of the back room with a sandwich and is touching my firearm at the same time. *****Bernadette the blonde haired woman said if anyone asks, to tell them that she's the janitor. Her son Jeff is the so called owner listed on the business cards put upfront because of their poor business practices not to mention illegal. Seems like that had previous violations and ownership had to be changed in order to stay in business. They charged me $50 for a transfer and when I went back in to pick up my firearm, they charged another guy who didn't seem to know much $75. This place is small and very dirty with a terrible selection of firearms. If you want a better option locally, go to Article 2 instead in Lombard. Was never a fan of them, but way better than the shady and unprofessional business practices that come out of here. read more

I love this shop. It's a no-BS business where you can usually find something a little out of the ordinary. Prices are better than any box store like Bass Pro and very competitive with smaller shops. You can buy, sell, or trade. They have a very large following of regulars that frequent the place and it's especially good for women buying a gun because being female owned, they don't talk down to you or tell you what you need to buy. read more

Went to this place about 2 weeks ago just to look around (since I love visiting gun shops) and a gun caught my attention. I was helped by Jeff. He was very friendly to me. Gave me all the information I was looking for. Gave a deposit and went back to pick it up when I had a chance. I asked Jeff if he can teach me on how to dissemble the gun and he did. The environment in this place is very friendly. They talk to you like if they've known you for Years. I loved this gun shop and will continue to come here for guns.
