Stopped by here last month for the first time. Sign on the door said "must have FOID Card to enter store" or something like that. I figured that was Illinois law. Took mine out and rang the doorbell, as the door was locked. Was buzzed in. Was greeted immediately by salesman behind the counter. There were a few salesman working at the time. One was free. I received friendly, excellent customer service from James. He answered all my questions and let me handle a number of the firearms they had for sale. I ended up purchasing a used model at a very decent price, which came with a case, holster, all the documentation, and 7 (seven!) magazines included. Three day waiting period, so picked it up later. Again, very professional service on my 2nd visit from the gentleman behind the counter (forgot his name, sorry, beard & glasses.) After showing proper ID, he handed me my case and I was on my way. The staff themselves seemed cool enough though I only mostly interacted with one kid that seemed a little smug... but he was super young, and will learn - so it's all good. No issue there. I came in looking to see if they had a small Ruger ccw gun like an lc9, ec9, security, etc. Didn't need anything fancy this moment. Unfortunately, I didn't look up the exact pricing per model. I knew they ranged from $250ish to $500. They had one in the store, was $399. It was an EC9s. I bought it. Later when I got home, I went online to find a ccw holster that fits it well, and saw the EC9s for $269. Got the call to pickup today, went down to the shop and asked the same kid who sold it to me if he'd check the price for me because i think there was a mistake and that it was priced off another model. I was thinking maybe it could have been mislabeled, or there was something different. But I checked again, and it was a basic stock EC9S. When I asked, he basically blew me off and said different models have different prices. I said its the same EC9S with an MSRP of $299, and he said "well the prices are the prices". Well, OK then. Knew i wasn't going to get a better answer. In the end, this is ENTIRELY my fault for not checking the exact price before i went in, checking on my phone before i bought, or trusting that i won't be charged a 25% premium OVER straight MSRP FULL RETAIL pricing when there is no shortage of this readily available model. Live and learn. Give or take a $100 isn't going to change my life, but i am also not a big fan of getting screwed. What I can do, is leave this review and let everyone else know to check your prices well before buying, and that I won't be back. Would never again trust any company that gouges people over RETAIL, especially as we are finally ending a pandemic. Other than that though, everything was smooth and easy enough. I purchased a Springfield XD-S MOD.2 OSP 9MM with CTC 1500 red dot from them, along with a box of. 40 FMJ, and two boxes of 9MM JHP. They mounted the red dot in the store. When I tried to zero the dot, about 10 days later, the reticle wouldn't move or adjust. I went back to SSG to have the gunsmith try, to no avail. He discovered the red dot was defective, and instead of exchanging it in store, told me to contact CTC for a warranty replacement. He refused to provide any replacement in store, even when I offered to purchase a more expensive more and pay the difference. Meanwhile during all this, I was checking out other 9MM pistols, to purchase that day. Needless to say, I did NOT purchase another firearm from them that day, and PLEASE BELIEVE, they'll NEVER get ANY of my hard earned $$$ again. They cost themselves literally thousands of dollars in future sales from me, and, going forward, I'll tell all my gun loving friends to steer way clear. read more

I have used this place a couple of times for tranfers and have left everytime with a unwelcome and unpleasant feeling. They do ask to see your FOID card the second u walk in. Not a problem but to not even be greeted first kinda rubs you the wrong way. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful but the owners son( I believe is in charge) Is very arrogant and rude. They have been in business a very long time and Im sure have their loyal customer base. But as said in another review other options do exist out there. You dont want to go somewhere and leave with a bad taste in your mouth. I understand that the son may run things now but Should not be on the floor interacting with customers. The dude that helped me out was respectful and helpful made sure if I had any questions he was there to help. Should be getting a call tomorrow about the background check! I've recently started going to Suburban Sporting Goods. It's a small store but they have a variety of firearms and supplies. Staff was very helpful and although they didn't have the Glock 19 I wanted they were able to order it for me. They called me 3 days later when they received my order and it was ready for pick up. One of their employees stole the optics from the rifle I ordered. When I wrote an email to complain, they said I was lying or confused. When I said I wanted to return it (as I have no use for a rifle without sights) they said I would have to pay a 25% fee. Then they said they do not want people like me as customers. By chance, I was driving by Suburban Sporting Goods one day and decided to stop in. As a firearm enthusiast, my expectations are high and my goal is to stop at any firearms dealer I encounter. Perhaps this is not the best use of my time. In short, this is a small shop with minimally trained staff. They stay in business apparently, due to the store's proximity to Chicago city limits. When I go into a gun store, I expect salespeople to know *everything* about the products they are selling - the alloy of barrel, performance of particular loads, etc. Not the case here. STUDY ON YOUR OWN TIME, OFF THE CLOCK. STUDY! STUDY! STUDY! The sales staff at Suburban Sporting Good should know ever detail on every product -- even if not provided by the manufacturer. Have used these guys as FFL a handful of times and they have always been helpful and friendly. It's a family owned the store and sometimes you can catch the founder (I think his is the father to the brothers that run the store) hanging out. He is a really nice man with a funny personality and tons of knowledge. Their transfer prices are a bit more $$$ then some others but they are worth it. You don't have worry about tracking some guy down that is an FFL "on the side". These guys are always available, during operating hours, to answer questions and concerns. Im highly disappointed in my gun purchase on November 12th . I went in and felt instantly judge based off my looks. When the purchase was finished i was given paper work to come back in a few days to get my gun. Which i paid in full $750+. I went on thinking in a few i would receive a call from here. And never did therefore on December 7th i called and who ever answered me said another party was looking over the paper work or wat not and if i wanted more information about it i can call them. Which made zero sense because i made the purchase from this place not to talk to a 3rd party. My money was taken and cleared from my bank account instantly no problem. But i still have no gun. This is my first gun purchase and I wouldve wanted it to be a good and enjoyable purchase maybe even memorable. I then took it upon myself to look at reviews for this place, and to now see all these reviews makes me even rethink my purchase and maybe i shouldve took my business elsewhere were more communication was going to be. Its been well over a month and i still have yet to receive something i already paid for. I would appreciate it someone to call me about it. I left all my information there. This place is fantastic! Don't let the surroundings fool you. It seems like a sketchy strip mall, but this is a quality gun store. They really know their stuff, but they're not dicks about it. I'm a first time gun buyer. I've been shopping online for months before finally deciding to pull the trigger, please forgive the pun, and buy. I chose this place because they had the best prices in the area. I bought a gun on their user friendly website and came in the following week to fill out paperwork. After a couple of weeks I hadn't heard anything, so I shot them an email. They responded right away and were incredibly helpful. It turned out the pistol I had ordered was on back order with the manufacturer. Jim, the manager, told me he would be happy to refund my money, or sell me a different gun, or I could wait. I went into the shop and found a really great pistol. Better than the one I had ordered. Everyone in the store was incredibly helpful, and informative. I've heard horror stories about gun shops, so I was really nervous about going. They could not have been nicer or more helpful. I felt so comfortable, not rushed, not talked down to, it really was a great experience. I can't recommend this place highly enough. Best prices and best people. Went into the store to pick up the firearm I ordered online, the guy assisting me said 4 words the whole time I was there, asked me for my FOID Card and sign here. I told him I wanted to examine my fire arm before leaving with it, he just leaned back onto the counter and start looking at his phone. He did offer me a holster a target nothing. Friendly service with these guys. However, i purchased a used handgun which on the sticker stated comes with two magazines. When i picked up the gun it was already packaged in a cardboard box. I repeatedly asked the sales person if both magazines were included. Once i unboxed the firearm there was only one magazine included with the firearm. As well, i purchased a blackhawk holster from them that was at a price of $45.95 only to find out the screws to the holster were pre-stripped as if it was a used holdter with wear marks and all. Moral of story... inspect everything you get from them because once you leave its on you. I did however amend this review as Jim personally contacted me and rectified the situation. Holsters are shipped new to location and Jim was willing to send the holster to manufacture for review. read more
