This company is completely unethical, the worst case of taking advantage of the consumer I've ever seen. They are essentially preying on customers who are unaware of their despicable tactics. I switched to them originally from a mailer solicitation, which promoted a more reasonable rate. After the initial period, the rate skyrocketed. Unfortunately, I did not notice or compare to see how high it actually was, which is my bad. Their rate was $0.1699/kWh vs $0.069 at Pepco, hard to imagine how they can get away with charging so much. Fortunately, I was able to cancel them quickly through Pepco vs. it taking a couple business cycles through NAP. This is an expensive lesson learned and hopefully there are more lawsuits against them to right these wrongs. read more

Stay FAR away from this scam company. They cost me and my wife more than $20,000 over the past 6 years! I called today and found out they are charging me 17.99 cents per kilowatt and have been for almost 6 years, when RI energy charges 7.81 cents per kilowatt currently. What they do is they offer a slightly better rate than your current electric provider for the 1st year. Then after the 1 year contract expires they send you a renewal notice in the mail. If you fail to respond to their renewal notice (which they are banking on), they continue to service u and they gradually increase your rate over time so you do not notice it. I'm so upset I did not call in sooner and have been paying these scam artists well over double the rate that RI energy would have provided me. This company is such a scam. I would give them -1 star if it is available. My bill jumped from $120 to $340 paid over $1200 last 4 months. When I called the representative, I found out my contract was over. When I tried to cancel the service, he told me that I have to email them info and then I can get the cancelation letter by mail. Also he was angry when I asked him why I can't get confirmation number right away(I need to call national grid) saying it was in the contract. Probably fine print. Received a fixed rate notice since my term was nearly completion. The October 2021 fixed rate is 13.99 kWh. The paperwork states that Eversource has a fixed rate of 15.99 kWh. I called Eversource who were amazing and they told me that currently my rate with North American Power is 9.79kWh! This would have bumped me from 9.79 to 13.00! Eversource's rate is 8.26... As of tomorrow my supplier is Eversource. Also set me up with a nice monthly budget based on my usage over the past 12 months. I'm hoping to clear a few things up not listed here. I'm an Eversource customer, and while I have not had an issue with North American Power, I would tell anyone to proceed with caution. If you watch your money and bills like a hawk, it might be worth it to you. NAP makes it sound like you will save a huge amount of money, you won't. It is a little bit, but you need to keep an eye on your contract, when it ends, and how to update it or get out of it. If you can't do that, or aren't the kind of person who looks closely at your bills each month, do not sign up with them. As of today, right on Eversource's website, there are providers offering a better rate than NAP, some by a fair amount. At least through Eversource, you can opt out of your third party contract with NAP (or another provider) fairly easily. However, you must make sure that there is no termination fee, or other hidden fee if you do. NAP's is $50 as of this writing. Logging into NAP and finding out any information about your account with them is something I have yet to be able to do. I don't like calling people like this as there is no paper trail, so expect to be on your own here. Eversource has a video on YouTube I recommend everyone watch before considering a third party supplier. It's called: RECOGNIZING AGGRESSIVE MARKETING TACTICS. NAP was once a MLM company, they are no longer, I'll give them that. I have not been ripped off by them, but I do trust the people on here that claim to be, to be honest. As I look at NAP, I can easily see how someone could be burned by their system. Final line, if you are the kind of person who watches your bills like a hawk, and NAP offers a better deal than others, go for it, and keep your eyes open. If you don't catch it in your billing you're screwed. I ended up losing hundreds of dollars because I didn't catch the billing change for three winter months. I too was NOT notified when my contract was up and paid for several months double my rate before I noticed. I called them and they said my contract was up and now my account was subject to the variable rate. So I switched to new company and sure enough I got a call from them with a lot of promises. I am already capped in with another company for a year and I am not paying a penalty to cancel contract. In my opinion they are an extremely disreputable company. I am more mad at myself that NAP for getting screwed by them as I should no better. Saved a little money over ConEd (local provider) when I signed up. I lost track of when the contract ended and never saw a notification from them. Checked today and their rate is 55% higher than ConEd. That is ridiculous. I would not complain if it was 10 or even 15% higher, but they really put the screws to me. They got me good. I received the standard letter about the contract coming up for expiration along with the standard disclaimer/warning that it will go to "market" rate if I don't respond. So, I shopped around and found several offers for between .05 - .06. North American would only offer .08+ and wanted a 24 - 36 month lock-in. Here's where I got screwed. I got a letter that it would take 2 billing cycles to convert to the new supplier. North American jacked up my rate to .11 for July and August (the highest usage months). Any money that I saved by locking in a low rate for 12 months went out the window in one month due to the ridiculous 2 billing cycle trick. I called North American Power, the new provider and the distributor (Commonwealth Edison). They all ran me in circles, pointing to the other .....all the while agreeing that I'm getting screwed. No satisfaction. I now believe that it's better to just stick with Commonwealth Edison's variable rate versus trying to save a few pennies by switching around to the lowest supplier because they'll screw me one way or another and I have no recourse. read more

This company charged me double what my electric company was charging because their parent company, Champion, switched my account to them. They said that because I didn't have a contract with them, my rate was higher. Well in the letter where they notified me that they were transferring my account they said I didn't have to do anything. I will never pick this company to supply my electric and don't recommend them because what they did is unethical, overcharging time without offering me a contract proactively when they made the switch. read more

I'm a JCP&L electric company customer in New Jersey. A year ago, I got one of the best deals around with NA Power. Fixed for 12 months. A month ago, I got a letter in the mail saying that my promo rate is about to expire, and that I could choose a new plan online, give them a call, or let the rate go to a variable. Pretty straightforward. The rates online were more expensive, so I called and told them that I would have to shop around to see what others could offer. They then basically matched my existing rate, and locked it in for another 12 months. The total time of the call was about 5 minutes. I'm satisfied. No surprises, friendly people. The only reason why I went into this amount of detail was because of the negative reviews I see here. My experience was completely different, and I wanted people to know. read more

This company is a traditional bait And Switch operation. Much is done by phone very little in writing. They never told me the truth once in my entire relationship with them. For example, when going solar they would not purchase any power back, and said I had to pay 10$ per month in order to cancel a long term contract. that would have been 240$ at that point. I escalated through two more persons with endless scripted sales none sense. Finally after confirming I was going to the utility commission of my state, they changed the terms of the termination to no more than 50$ which they now claimed was what they were limited to. This company start off with rates a little lower than your primary electric company, but if you forget to re-signup at the end of your contract be prepared to have your pockets picked. Your rate may go up 50% to 150%. And you can forget about being notified of the pending end of your contract. You won't find a reminder from NAPower. That's right, they will jack the rate up way beyond what is being charged by your primary electric company. Their variable rate for me was over 100% more than what was being changed by my electric company. And when you try to cancel it take months. First, I cannot believe that in order to place this review I even have to give this company one star!! Please count this as a negative one star... Got a bunch of calls a 18 months back about saving money on my electric bill (PSNH -- now Eversource) by switching suppliers. Wow, I can switch suppliers?! I thought it was a monopoly. So the energy delivery is a monopoly controlled by Eversource, which charges us almost $80/month even if we don't use ANY electricity whatsoever -- a total hosing for all NH residents in a certain area! Yay us! So this company North American Power & Gas LLC is offering rates that are half that of PSNH, so I sign up! The contract runs for a year and then promptly ends. I ask if there are any other savings offers from North American and they say no. So I figure I'm back on a PSNH plan, but no, I'm still with North American Power and they've been slowly but steadily raising the rates. Now the gas bust happens and gas is super cheap everywhere -- except in my electric bill! How else do you keep up profits when prices fall through the floor? Keep charging a high rate, that's how! All these energy suppliers are (for the first time in recorded history) losing money selling cheap electric because gas prices have fallen so low, but North American is charging it's hold-over customers a double rate. So I receive another promotion from another company and sign up in January of 2016! They are offering a rate that is like 7.89¢ and I find that I've been charged 15.99¢ for who knows how long! That's more than double!! Little do I know, even though I have given my approval to switch to this new company, North American can control my billing and hold on to me for up to TWO FULL BILLING CYCLES!! Yes, that means that through the entire end of the winter I've been paying the over-twice-as-much rate!! So I call Eversource to tell them that this has been done in error and can they please credit my account and make sure that I've been switched to the new company I signed up with? Long story short, no they can't. They have nothing to do with who supplies my electric, they are merely the delivery agent! Can't even tell you how livid I am at this point! And the regulations that the electric industry got approved contain that in the fine print! Thanks to the Congress & Senate for passing that tasty bit of legislation on to us. So I've been paying the highest rates during the highest usage period and I have no recourse! Perfect. Honestly, I don't know exactly which company I'm slamming at this point, but none of them can claim to be customer focused. Face it folks, we're all screwed with these monopolies that don't have to do anything to retain customers, just mail out inflated bills and pass you through to collections when you fall short. For people who think government is a bad thing, remember that government is essentially created to be of, by and for the people -- that's us. Regulating these bloated industries is one important and essential function of our government. And it's not just electric, it's also cable tv (broadband internet), cell phone service, you name it. Okay, I thought I was going to tell you something new, but same old, same old: DON'T FORGET TO RENEW YOUR RATE, or you'll pay them back double what you saved. My rate expired 2 months ago, and I didn't notice, until this month's bill came in at double the rate and double my historic high in electric bills. When I called American Power Customer Service to plead for an adjustment, a rep kept me waiting 15 min. before telling me the manager was busy and would call me back. Well, he hasn't, so I'm writing this review instead. If I had stayed with my local electric company, BGE, instead of shopping for bargains, I'd be well ahead of the game. As is it, American Power managed to trap me for ONLY 2 MONTHS in a rate twice BGE's, and managed to get back from me ALL MY SAVINGS WITH THEM and MORE BESIDES -- all CONCENTRATED in just ONE! A door to door salesman visited me recently to sell me NAP's service. Because of his accent, I thought that he was doing some sort of verification about my utility service. It wasn't until about 5 minutes later that I realized that he was selling me a new service, so against my better judgement, I decided to go along and sort it out later. Their introductory rate is 25% less for electricity and 89% more for gas than what I'm currently paying. Between their rates, unconventional marketing methods, and the fact that they don't even have the good sense to hire salesmen and phone representatives who can be clearly understood, I decide to rescind the contract within the allowed period. They haven't responded to my email. Also, one of Yelp's reviews says that they have an A rating with the BBB. I checked, and the BBB says that they have no rating. Based on my experience, and the other Yelp reviews, I'd say to pass on this company. read more

Wish I could give zero stars. These guys are a pack of thieves. The first rate is competitive, but they will not notify at the end of term and bang you with a variable rate. Every other outfit's variable rate is below the fixed rate currently for obvious reasons. These rip-off artists variable rate was 66% higher. Ya'll should do yourself the favor and switch to another supplier. If you don't mark your calendar, and miss the window by a month, you'll wipe out any past savings you might have received. Several class action lawsuits claimed that North American Power & Gas (NAPG) made misleading statements about the company's rates. In addition, plaintiffs allege NAPG's rates were not based on market related factors or prevailing market rates as promised in their contracts to consumers. The North American Power & Gas class action lawsuits alleged that after hooking customers with a low introductory "teaser" rate, the company then charged "exorbitantly" high premiums despite telling consumers that their rates after the teaser period would be related to prevailing market rates. read more

The company did well during the contract period. When the contract ended they stated I would be on a variable rate. It was higher, but still affordable. I began to look for the best company to sign a new contract with for a lower rate. When I found a new company, they sent the transfer notice to North American Power to let them know I was ending service with them. North American Power proceeded to more than doubled my rate that very month. When brought to their attention they stated I was made aware of the variable rate. Variable rate really meant, gouge you once you make a decision to leave. I have reached out to the BBB as well. I would highly recommend staying away from this company. read more

Average NA Power+JCPL Delivery rate was 0.1993 $/kw-hr. Got a 25% electric bill reduction with just JCPL Generation and Delivery. read more

Not even worth one star. They use all kinds of tricks and gimmicks to convince you that you are benefitting from a more competitive power market as well as becoming more environment friendly. They only save you money for a limited time and then switch their costs by month. They claim their bills are easy to understand and help save money, but they organization of costs just makes it difficult to compare what you would have saved by staying with your previous provider. I gave 2 stars because customer service was nice considering I never enrolled in the first place. I live in Ohio and when they knocked on my door I started to sign up and then changed my mind. I told the guy at my door I wasn't interested and he said he would discard the paperwork. What really happened was he enrolled me anyway under a different phone number and probably had the VISA gift cards sent to himself. I noticed when my bill almost doubled. So, upset, I called to cancel. I spoke with Jacob who said they would start an investigation as to how and why I was enrolled and would waive the termination fee for cancelling early. He was very apologetic and I can't blame this guy for what the other guy did. I won't be answering my door to this company again though. I'm out a couple hundred dollars because the knocker did not do as I asked. read more
