We ventured out on a cold and windy Saturday evening to NCB. We were greeted immediately and ushered to our table. Cameron our waiter was great he explained the specials for the evening and took our drink order. I ordered a Bacon Slaw burger my wife ordered the Shrimp Tacos and our daughter had the Pulled Chicken Sandwich. Now I to say I've eaten at NCB several times and the food just keeps getting better. Have been North Channel Brewary numerous times. The Beers are good as is the service but their food has a long way to go. They advertise their speciality is barbecue but everything we tried has been fatty and way over spiced. Other items have been mediocre. Very disappointing. read more

Sucked, I took my mom and step-dad out for dinner here once and won't be back. Service was very slow and we waited FOREVER for our food. I ordered shredded chicken tacos and they were absolutely horrible, cold and didn't taste good at all. I keep describing the taste as "someone had a taco 20 years ago and then tried to remake the flavor with whatever spices they had in the kitchen." It's also VERY loud. Like I kept wincing from the volume kind of loud. We could hear conversations from across the room because the place echoes so much but could barely hear each other over everything else. It's wasn't even that busy! Was really cold to for whatever reason, it was summer and I'm sure the a ac was on but I don't get cold easy and I had to put my sweater on. read more

We were super excited for this place and we weren't disappointed. There is a creative menu of bbq, tacos and sandwiches. There are some unique things too. It's not cheap but it's not too expensive. We can tell the servers are getting used to the place and the menu. But it's totally understandable how new the place is. The beer is fantastic. We recommend the Drawbridge DIPA. read more

So glad to see this place finally open! As we live in the Chicago area, I've only been twice so far but each time has been very satisfactory. I love that it is located near to, but not right within, the main downtown area/River Street as it is a bit quieter and with plenty of parking. The beer is great as far as I'm concerned, and I like that they are also already selling it to-go in attractively designed cans, making a nice little presentation to bring back to the cottage. I did not get what I expected at all. I am a pickle connoisseur and enthusiast . I have tasted pickles from all over the globe, but this takes the pickled flavored cake. After going into a 2 week depression of nonstop eating pickles in my pickle-scented apartment while scrolling through my countless online dating accounts, I decided to finally give up pickles. I came to this place and ordered a burger. I lifted up the bun and I saw.... a glorious pickle. I took a bite expecting it to be a regular restaurant pickle. I am now a regular. I stay from 11am-11pm (when they're open) and order burgers just for the pickles. I begged them to tell where they got them from and they never will. Send help. God-tier pickles. read more

We were super excited to try this place but were so disappointed. Waited and waited to be waited on and then even when we flagged someone down we still waited some more even after we watched the hostess go tell the waitresses that we needed help. I could understand this if it was a busy night but the only place that was busy was the bar area and even then there were open tables and seats at the bar. We were then told we would probably have to wait for our food because the kitchen was backed up. All of this might've been forgivable had the food been good but we had a variety of things and none of it was outstanding. I had the cheese soup and it was awful. The Romain salad was decent. The burger was OK and the brat was just OK as well. Might come back for the beer but there are other places nearby that I already prefer. Atmosphere was cute. Overall a major bummer. read more

Wish I could give 3.5 stars- this was our first and only visit bc we are just passing through- highlights for me- beautiful space and branding/visual identity, and an excellent IPA. My husband and I were looking forward to a date night but were seated in the far back room directly next to two tables with babies and toddlers. Hostess walked us past many empty tables and sections to seat us there. It was weird, I felt like we weren't local or "cool" enough to sit in one of the other sections? Kind of a crappy way to start. Our table was wobbly and ours and a couple other tables in the dining room had been "fixed" with big wads of napkins under the feet. Menu seems a bit too ambitious and not really focused. My brisket tacos were tasty but not hot at all, and the meat didn't really have a smoked flavor. Also, I'm all about that lovely, melting smoked brisket fat, but each one of the tacos had some gross slimy bits that I didn't eat- for the tiny bits of meat on each of those tacos, seemed the meat could be picked over a bit better. My husbands burger was good, but for a $3 upcharge, fry portion could have been a bit more generous. A couple of the beers we requested were unavailable and I heard the table next to us having similar problems with food and beers they wanted to order. Our server was adequate, but not exceptionally warm. I think a friendlier start to our visit would have made a big difference, maybe tighten up both beer list and food menu? read more

Not a good experience. It was a Saturday night at 6pm we were a table of 7 adults who were all drinking beer and ordering food. The service was horrible. Our waitress disappeared for a solid 45 minutes. Asked for water with lemon the lemon never came. We ordered appetizers, 2 burgers, and 1/2 chicken. 1 hr and 1/2 later food still had NOT arrived. No communication from the establishment. Finally said something they claimed the food was just coming out. It did come out and EVERYTHING was ICE COLD. We did not stay to eat. CanNOT and would NOT recommend. If I could give 0 stars, I would and would certainty be earned. read more

Stopped here on a road trip up North. Beer was great, food was terrible! The bacon on the BLT is fatty, greasy and not crisp. Pulled pork still had pieces of membrane to pick out. They were out of both chicken and Caesar dressing for the Caesar salad but offered to replace it with ranch (lettuce and ranch dressing for $10, anyone?!). Great atmosphere! Lauren was our server and oriented us well, being we were new to this establishment. She was efficient and helpful. Our family came here on our way back south from a traverse city weekend. We had heard many positive comments about North Channel so we thought we'd give it a try. We all loved the cider, particularly the blueberry mixed with cranberry. We also loved the spicy bbq chicken quesadilla. The chicken had a delicious smoked flavor. Stopped here for the first time a couple of weeks after their busy opening weekend and had a terrific experience. Sampled a flight of four beers: Manistee IPA, Sawmill Stout, High Bluff Porter, and Drawbridge DIPA... all excellent and reasonably priced. The space is very cool. When they remodeled the old furniture warehouse they did it right. Lots of windows and light, cool steel and warm wood... A modern shipyard warehouse vibe with a nod to Manistee's freighter history. Would you believe we even saw one of those giant ships make its way through the channel while we were sitting there enjoying ourselves? It was right there, right out the window! The staff were friendly, enthusiastic and well trained. The food was very tasty (we had a tender and flavorful brisket that could have been maybe a tad more lean, but very good nonetheless) and the Tex-Mex menu has a lot of variety to offer. Very nice new place in Manistee. Not full bar, but mainly self crafted beers that were reasonably priced. Not big menu, but what they have is pretty good. I had the brat with sauerkraut and it was tasty and there was plenty. Only one wine selection at $6 and it was ok for a house wine. Great place to meet and greet people. Noisy, but active and just very comfortable. Not a fine dining place, but they aren't trying to be a gourmet restaurant. For that go to Blue Fish or Glenwood in Onekama. read more

Made from scratch and topped with julienne cut carrots and cucumber, fresh jalapeno slices and homemade red onion straws that were amazingly light and tasty. Drove home from the cottage with a planned lunch stop to try out NCB. Great decision! Morgan, our waitress, was friendly, knowledgeable and gave us great service. Bacon wrapped meatloaf sandwich was delicious, cob(that's how they spell it!) was delicious as well. Salty blonde beer and blueberry cider were great accompaniments. As a person with food allergies, I would have liked to see a few more GF choices, but I was able to navigate the menu just fine. We will definitely spread the good word with our Manistee boating friends. read more

Sadly I'm giving two stars strictly on the merit of the food. My family and I visited North Channel several times when they first opened a year ago and would have given them 5 stars then. They haven't grown with their business. The food while still very good is overshadowed by the terrible service and OK beer. We vacationed in Manistee last week and stopped in multiple nights. We had a steady decline in service. First of all each visit was a very long wait for our food. No attention to detail such as water refill, napkins, or on one occasion silverware! The last visit was a super long wait just to be greeted by our server, who apparently was not the server we were supposed to have and seemed to have a chip on her shoulder from the start. The Manager/Owner? came over finally and noticed we had been waiting a very long time. Once ordered the whole experience went down hill. I was overcharged for identical side items, my son made the mistake of asking for a cup of coffee and was told (across two tables) "who drinks coffee in 100 degree weather, that's crazy"...it was a 70 degree evening, but who cares - not really an issue...say we aren't willing to make a pot. After sitting with empty glasses forever and really being done with the whole experience , the manager/owner came back, asked how everything was and as I attempted to answer honestly, she brushed me off with "yep foods good, beer is good so enjoy." Ummmm, nope. You are getting our hard earned money. The cap of the night was the waitress cussing at us when she brought the check without asking how to divide it and we asked for 3 separate checks. She turned to me and loudly said "Shit!! I didn't expect that. Really?? Not her business, but my sons are adults and responsible enough to want to pay for themselves. And yes, I did not tip her...not sorry. It's a tip, earn it. I've worked in the industry too. Bottom line good food, so-so beer, terrible service. Manistee doesn't have much to offer and this doesn't help. Side note: Bathrooms were filthy every visit. read more

Tried the brewery for the first time while visiting over Christmas. I really wanted to like it as there is not a lot of options in Manistee. It was incredibly adequate. My husband tried two beers. He said they both tasted the same. I had the regular cider and our guest had the blueberry cider. My cider was fine. She did not like hers. We ordered the fried pickles and the Queso and chips to start. The fried pickles were quite good, especially the sauce. The chips were good. They say they are house fried. They may be, but they are not made in house. The Queso was VERY thin. I had the cheese soup for dinner and it was thicker than the Queso. Both were pretty bland. The cheese soup has some chorizo sprinkled on top that was bitter. The rest of our party had the Quesadillas. They were fine. Nothing to rave about. The menu said they came with house made chips. Our waitress at first told us they didn't. When we pointed out the listing on the menu, chips were provided. I don't know if we received them because we asked or if they are normally provided. In either case, they were not good. They were cold and not crispy. If you are going to go to the bother of making house made chips, they should be served hot and crispy. We ended up taking them home and heating them up in the oven. They were better then, but not great. Service was OK. I'm hoping they improve. We will try again next summer. read more
