I go here when I'm looking for something I can't find at eureka natural foods, and always find it. They have a really great selection of organic produce, two favorites are purple sweet potato and fresh Hawaiian turmeric. They have good house made dips, but I haven't had their soup or salad bar. Also, the employees are always SO nice. It is a bit hard to find if you aren't from the area, but nothing a gps couldn't help with! read more

This place reminds me of Whole Foods in San Francisco. Great for a health nut. However, it is expensive and the cashier is slow.

Just returned from grabbing lunch at the Coop. I absolutely love the Deli Staff who are always eager to assist, very informative, and friendly. The store has a wide variety of items to choose from. I could care less about the friendlieness of the cashiers at the front of the store. They hold no interest in the customer and seem as if they only care about conversations they hold with other cashiers as they holler across register to register. read more

This is crazy but I am moving back to Humboldt after 10 years and there still isn't a trader Joe's?! its a depressed area we need it come on I'm begging you bring tj's to northern ca! We shop here almost every time we go through Eureka (about 4-5 times/year), but only for the products. Most of the staff are useless. They turn around when they see us coming and we are pretty average looking people! Some of the checkers are friendly, but to most it is just a job. We have belonged to our local food COOP since its founding in 1973. Ours is not as big, but if the help is not friendly to the customer (the reason for the store!), they go down the road. read more

I absolutely love this store! It's got such a family feel! The employees get to know your face and are always smiling. The deli is the best! A huge variety, fresh and clean! I wish I could transplant this place to Oakland! I didn't have to deal with a total lack of customer service (*cough* Farmer Joe's *cough*) in order to get local, organic food at decent prices! My partner and I stopped in for some road food on our way out of town. We ordered some half-sandwiches at the deli, grabbed some chips and juices, and were on our way. The employees making sandwiches were patient, attentive, warm, and seemed pretty happy doing their thing. I ordered a turkey, havarti, and cranberry sauce on sourdough. It was fresh and memorably delicious. It was really nice to have some simple "home" food during our road trip. read more

The co-op should be five stars but I have to say that if there is something here that you can get anywhere else (besides ENF) it will most certainly be cheaper. That said let me tell you about service. The staff at deli, meat, and produce counters are very knowledgeable and even more helpful. I like to ask the produce guys what's new and good and i'll be darned if i dont leave with something i didn't intend on buying. The meat counter is amazing offering not just the typical beef, chicken, and pork, but also buffalo products (elk in the freezer) the deli is all kinds of good for sandwiches and soups and salads and coffee and breads or most anything else you can think of! The beer and wine selection can make even a beer snob like me stand in awe. If you want truly high quality food the co-op is the place to go in Humboldt. read more

I love natural foods stores... I swear any town I go to I will end up finding one to check out and the Eureka Co-op is one of my favs. Some of the staff here are SOOOO nice... They will go out of their way to help you pick out a new vitamin or probiotic or face wash. They have a great selection of produce and bulk items.. My two complaints are that the baked breads don't get there soon enough from Arcata- I love the walnut thyme. And that there are not enough fresh vegan baked goods... Otherwise I lovelove this place! read more

Their deli is great, especially their sandwiches. However, a lot of stuff is very overpriced. I only go here for items that other stores don't carry (or sandwiches), simply because other stores will offer a lot of the same items for significantly cheaper. It's also great for produce, if you're looking for fresh and delicious produce. read more

I like the CO-OP for its diverse foods. The meat is great and the produce is as local as you can find. They have the absolute worst checkers I have ever experienced. They are slow and dim-witted. They have no focus on customers waiting in line while they chat endlessly. One checker (DEE i think) Is absolutely RUDE. After complaining about this woman, she still seems to be rude and have a job there. I try to avoid her line at all costs, but sometimes its the only line open. The CO-OP needs to do itself a favor, get rid of these employees that think they are too good for the customers. read more

The Spoon sandwiches are especially wonderful. They taste better then any sandwich ive had before! There is so many organic and non-organic options. The CoOp is a great place to shop for all specialty brew's and there is a huge wine selection as well. It's always nice to be able to pick out a beer that fits your personality and taste buds that particular day. read more

Expensive!!! I've lived in this community a long time and what I see is prices going up and quality going down....WAY DOWN! Why isn't the deli buying local produce anymore with the exception of 1 or 2 things? Why is half the stuff I used to love getting in the bakery gone now? Why are all your employees so unhappy? Even the employees who used to be so kind and conversational are getting a little less so. Why are the meat department cases always half empty, if I can even find someone to get me anything. They cut my membership discount from 10% to 5%. Even though they haven't made enough money in years to give me any return on my membership! Not to mention the staff doesn't seem nearly as knowledgable as they were before. I have in the past stopped by the deli in arcata for help with cooking. When I went in there the other evening, I was informed the chef that I used to get advice from was no longer working there but was told the new manager was available. When I presented my question to the woman who presented herself as the manger she looked at me like I was crazy and said she had no idea cause she doesn't eat meat! It was an extremely BASIC question! Why is there a deli manager that can't answer a basic cooking question? I stopped going there pretty much after the membership discount cut, but I recently moved closer to the Arcata location and thought I'd give it a couple more tries.....it's worth the walk to Wildberries to have a more pleasant, less bitter experience. read more

We were traveling and I was wanting a little something for lunch, so as we drove by, we decided to stop here. No - didn't find the salad I wanted as the store had had a mechanical problem, and all their refrigeration had gone out - so LOTS of empty shelving in dairy, freezer section, etc. We felt so badly. They did have a lovely produce section - looked like a super place to shop. I was able to get a wonderful organic veggie sandwich - so was happy. The clerk was so pleasant and having such a positive attitude about the major problem. The food in the refrigerated/freezer areas was donated to the food bank, so that was super! read more

Meat department knows meat! They listen to customers unlike the other natural food store in town. Pork is away from other meats making it easy to keep dietary requirements! Because of the better meat market staff and the cleanliness, I've left the other market (after 5 years) and staying with the co-op! Thank you co-op! read more

I love the co op and am a happy healthy vegan who comes here for things I can't get at win-co, and generally always spend a long time browsing their fairly extensive frozen section and usually only leave with a few things due to the higher prices. I have no issue with this company, products, or employees. The only reason I am leaving 3 stars is because me and my girlfriend were both followed extensively by the security guard for the ENTIRE time we were here. He stood in the aisles next to us and watched us in his khaki knockoff sheriffs uniform as we browsed with items in our hands. I'm not sure what I did to deserve this treatment here but I seriously hope it changes as it's very unnerving and distracting to customers. read more

The Humboldt Bay Micropolitan Area is blessed with a wealth of amazing resources for wholesome, organic, local foods: Many Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farms (like Redwood Roots and Shakefork); the Arcata Farmers' Market; Humboldt Creamery dairies; Cypress Grove Chevre; the list goes on. Add to this no fewer than FOUR first-rate organic/whole foods markets: Eureka Natural Foods, Wildberries in Arcata, and the Arcata and Eureka branches of the North Coast Co-op. We go to the other whole-foods stores too, and to Safeway for some things - we're not fanatics. And we get most of our produce and grains from CSAs. But the Eureka Co-op is our market of choice. Great produce, most of it organic and much of it local; an excellent meat counter with local organic meats; a good deli; a wide range of bulk items including a great selection of bulk spices; great local products like Brio breads, Cypress Grove, Loleta and Rumiano cheeses, and Roy's pastas; and wonderful hard to find products (like Apollo olive oils from Yuba County and St. Peters organic real ales from England, easily among the best bottled beers in the world). Add to that a friendly, helpful staff and responsive buyers who will make every effort to get want you want, and you have a truly wonderful resource for those who care about what they eat. read more

I really like the store. Beautiful, friendly staff. But we went in for coffee & snacks and our coffees were TERRIBLE. The barista had absolutely no idea what she was doing. My mother in law ordered a 16oz blended caramel latte and we were standing there waiting for it, and watched the lady put a couple scoops of ice, two shots of espresso and caramel syrup in the blender. Blended it up and the cup was just barely over half full! I ordered a 16oz white chocolate mocha, and it tasted horrible. At least my cup was full.. but after choking down my entire coffee, there was a huge chunk of GARLIC in the bottom of my cup. So ridiculous! The rest of the store is great, but I would recommend staying away from the coffee shop. There is a Dutch Bros down the street, and plenty of other coffee shops in town. read more

I love the Eureka Co-op. I buy mostly vegetables and specialty food there and appreciate their wide selection of organic produce, some from local farmers. They also have a huge selection of supplements and herbal remedies. The store is always clean, and the staff is super friendly. I'm very grateful for their electric shopping cart which I often have to use due to a disability. read more

While on a road trip we stopped for fresh tasty food. What a disappointment. The house made baba ghanoush was awful. The bakery epi bread was stale and should have been on a day old shelf. Here's how to fix the baba ghanoush: this isn't eggplant pico de gallo; skip the raw onion and raw garlic; add more tahini and olive oil; tomatoes distract from entire dish. read more

Great selection - CUH-RAZY over priced, but I don't subscribe to the all natural, all organic lifestyle. I patronize on occasion when I forget to pack lunch or need something to substitute my lunch. That being said on 1/7/2015 - they tried to charge me $3.99 for 1 honeycrisp apple - they've lost their minds. But that's what you're looking at with a specialty store. read more

i love this place. i stop here every time i drive through Eureka, and buy a sandwich that fills me for the 4.5 hour drive home. they have a great selection of beer and sodas to pair with the delicious sandwich. The choices here are optimal, the people are friendly. its got a similar feel to Berkeley Bowl, which is in, well, Berkeley. =P read more

I shop at the Co-op even though the produce selection at ENF is better, because I like the staff more. It's expensive, like all natural food stores, and anything available at other local grocery stores will be cheaper there. Yes, supporting a local independent business is better, if you have the disposable income to pay twice as much for the same item. I get the stuff here that I can't get at chain stores, and their bulk bins and olive/salad bar/cheese/deli area are great! read more
