I went here for many years and I really appreciate everyone who worked there. I went this year and it was a whole different crew and they were very rude and disrespectful the main one was Margo the manager I took my glasses in due to one of the arm had been broken so the girl at the front informed me that they had framed in the back office as my framed and that it would be 30$ so when she returned my glasses I informed her that something was different that my glasses wasn't fitting me right so Margo informed me that they can stretch them to fit I told her that the frame that they supposedly had switched to had one short arm and one long one and that I would like to have them refund me my 30$ back and if they were going to charge me for what I guess it was a joke to them by putting a short ear arm on my glasses and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. I ended up going to another eye doctor and I had them to examine my glasses and the doctor put it in writing that the piece didn't fit and that that the frame had never been replaced so I returned and Margo was very rude by slamming a frame on the desk telling me she was not going to refund my money and for me to take the frame and leave the store I left the frame on the desk and left due to the way she was and had treated me as if I dirt which really made me feel like beating her but I'm better than that and a person like her and her staff don't need to work with the public . Till today my glasses are the same as they fixed them I have called trying to speak with someone other than Margo but was told she's the only one person. I have not called for over a month hopefully my review can catch the eye of some one higher than Margo and reach out to me all I want is some one who knows how to treat their customers. read more

The optometrists are very nice, so they're the saving grace of this review. I feel that quite a few of the office staff are rude and unprofessional. When I checked in for my last appointment, two of the front staff were speaking very negatively about a patient they had on hold... while I was standing there. I've worked in medical settings for the past 10 years and was very disappointed to see that kind of behavior. The floors were dirty and there were pieces of trash. I brought in my current glasses to have the lenses replaced with my updated prescription. They said it would take 2-6 weeks I believe, which wasn't a problem. When I'd called for a status update on my glasses, it was nearly impossible to get ahold of anyone. Every time I left a voicemail, I received an automated text message asking me to text back if I needed assistance. The text did communicate that the office had experienced a flood, so they had moved to their sister location in Carlsbad Village... but they didn't specify what the sister location was called, the phone number, or who to contact. I called multiple offices and heard that I wasn't the only patient who was trying to locate this sister office. Eventually I got in touch with someone via email and they were kind and helpful. They said they found my glasses, but the frames I ordered were on back order. I appreciated the update, except for the fact that I didn't order any frames as I had given them my usual ones to replace the lenses. They said they might not have the frames I'd left at the office, but they would be willing to order the same ones for me if needed. After another couple weeks I finally got a call from Village Optometrist to come pick up my glasses. Good news is that I have received my frames with what I presume is my updated prescription. Bad news is that they told me the frames didn't come with a case... again, I had left my glasses IN MY CASE with them when I dropped them off. The lady said they were probably in the flooded office. I asked for a hard case and she gave me one. It's a roller coaster at this place. Too hard to get in touch with people and not great communication. read more

I should have gone to Lenscrafters. At least they guarantee their frames. I've been here twice. The only reason I came back was because the doctor was so knowledgeable but that's not reason enough anymore after this last time. I had an appointment and I was late to it by 10 minutes. The girl at the counter had a real attitude; she is newer but not the newest girl. She said my appointment had been given away to the next client and I should have called. She said this in the bitchiest tone possible, I kid you not. Like, I don't know how she's in a front-facing position with that kind of attitude. She said I could come back for another appointment in a week. SO i made it and left. I return a week later and I made sure I'm early. This time she says, "Since you're so early, you're going to have to wait a bit," again in the snottiest way possible without going overboard. While I'm waiting, an older couple walks in. They want to have their glasses remade because she broke them. She said she paid a lot of money not too long ago. She was refused because her prescription was expired. And guess who was serving the sweet lady? The snotty girl. Like, I get that the client doesn't have a lot of options here but there are nicer ways of giving her alternatives and she couldn't even do that. Like it was literally, "Sorry I can't help you. Bye." How do you expect the business to serve the community like that? I should have walked out here. I got done with the preliminary stuff and I'm waiting for the doctor. I could hear yelling and screaming coming from the room next to me. I can identify the voice is of the doctor's and the snotty lady from the front. I can't exactly make out what was being said but I have no doubt it is because of this young lady's attitude. I'm left waiting for 10 extra minutes because of this debacle. I miss my 2nd opportunity here to leave. I choose my glasses and pay like $500 out of pocket and this is even with good insurance. Fast forward a month later when I receive them and the frames are so heavy they leave indentations on me. I call and ask if I could not return but exchange them. They said no and the best they can do is adjust them so that they don't leave indentations. Well there really isn't anything they could do for me regarding the weight unless they reweld it. I can afford a new pair of glasses, even if it costs me another $1000. What I can't afford is to waste my time on a place that offers no real solutions and subpar service under the guise of being of service to the community. At first I thought the doctor had hired a bad employee and maybe he did. But direction usually comes from the top down. Perhaps he's not as nice as I thought. It's something to question. Don't let them waste your time! I am a student at the GIA, I made an appointment at the Oceanside location and was texted the day of to let me know a pipe burst and they needed to reschedule me. I was ok with that, but then received a text asking what insurance I have. (I found them on my insurance provider network)I responded with my insurance and they ghosted me. No further messages, no reschedule, no responses, no explanation of a problem with accepting my insurance. SO UNPROFESSIONAL! Had a great exam yesterday. Loved the Nikon optometry retinal camera clarity. Both the assistant and Dr were exceptional.

Very competent and caring optometrist. Comfortably accommodated me bringing my infant and 8-year old in tow to the exam room. Exam was comprehensive and pleasant. I asked that my prescription be emailed to me after the exam. I assumed that would happen the same day. I emailed a day or two later with no response. I called a week later and left a message. I received an email within a few hours of the voicemail with an incomplete prescription and no acknowledgement that I had been inconvenienced. Staff could use a training on completing tasks, thoroughness and general customer service. I doubt I will return, which is a shame since the location is so convenient. Update: adding a star after a follow up message attempting to resolve my complaint. Perhaps the customer service challenges will be addressed by the time I need new glasses. read more

First off, if you are a Medi-Cal patient you are considered a second class person no matter what race you are, the He will always try to charge you $30 for an 'extra special' eyeball Exam Scam, then you can only pick from the cheapest made frames oh and ugliest by the way! Then the last set of glasses broke right off out of the frame and guess what they tell me ... those frames didn't fit your prescription WTF? They fucking literally told me to pick out of the 5 kinds of Wellfare choices...And then now I have to go without glasses for 5 weeks until they can fix this. Not good at all. Had a bad experience where the first glasses that I got I had to look sidways to see clear. It was a bit of an challenge to get them to acknowledge the problem but they finally sent me back in to go through entire process again. The front desk girl was very rude and short and argumentative to the point that I actually walked out at one point. The second time which was just a couple weeks later they told me I had a stigma now and changed my prescription. The second set of glasses that I got were not the correct prescription as things were a little blurry now and the first pair was better just had to look sideways to see clear. Alot of complaining got me into my third pair of glasses that were fine. That was many years ago and after loosing my glasses this weekend I thought I would give it another try with North Coast. I have called over 3 days and left 3 messages and no one has answered the phone yet. I have yet to get a call back and Im just moving on to another optomotrist as I really need some replacment glasses. They do have a nice massage chair in the waiting room is the only good thing I can say about North Coast. read more

I was having trouble signing in because it said I wasn't coming up in their system she raised her voice at me really loud which caused a bunch of people in the waiting room to kind of stare.. Dr. Rosa is a gem! His office was able to squeeze us in for an emergency appointment when my son got debris stuck in his eye that was causing pain and extreme irritation. Dr. Rosa was everything you could hope for - he methodically and painlessly removed all the debris, then thoroughly checked my son's eye for abrasions, etc., and he still had plenty of time to answer all of my questions and concerns. If the doctor is this patient, thorough and attentive with a little kid he probably won't see again (none of us wear glasses) I can only imagine how amazing he is with "regular" customers!! I been going here to North Coast Optometry for many years - always professional and I have no issues with any of the doctors - however, this year I had a different insurance carrier and I got zero customer service from the front desk. Two optometrists I saw in this office are fantastic! Dr. Rosa was very attentive and nice. However, one of the front office clerks had little patience when checking me in and even less when offering us insurance covered, cheap frames. I don't like to write reviews like this. I always try to be positive. However, when I called to make a vision appointment, I was asked to hold. 30 minutes later, I was still on hold. I used my cell phone to call in and said "Do you realize you have a call on hold for 30 minutes on the other line?" She apologized and asked how she could help me. At this point I just said, no thank you. I will take my business elsewhere. I am still on hold with the original call, they never came back to answer or check on that line. And finally at 42 minutes they casually picked up the phone and hung up. Didn't even check to see if someone was on the line. Good Job. read more

The Doctor was trained, professional, and conducted a good exam. What I cannot stand are businesses that misrepresent their hours. When your website and all public facing materials state that you are open until X time, you should be open until X time. People adjust their lives to run errands, the least you could do is take five seconds to adjust your website that SERVES the public. Then the prescription wasn't right glasses were blurry they didn't want to refund they didn't want to do anything to help me set it was the prescriptions fault. My family has gone to this optometrist for the past couple years and they have always provided excellent services. They have a wide variety of glass wear and the doctors have always been quick and helpful to prescribe my son. We have had no problems scheduling appointments and the staff on hand is always so kind and helpful, whether you schedule an appointment or just walk in to seek help. To summarize, our first and only visit resulted in formal written complaints to the FTC and the California Board of Optometry. As for the quality of the eye exam, Andrew Rummel seemed rushed and absent-minded. Most questions were met with generic or lazy answers. For example, when I mentioned that my retinal photo had a large blank/blurry spot on almost half of it and perhaps the photo should be retaken, he simply told me that must be where my eye meets my brain and that's probably why it is blurry. This makes no sense and no further elaboration was provided. He just closed the photo on the computer and walked us out. This was the least of my concerns though. The doctor and his staff offered to sell us eyewear on the spot with no problem. However, when we declined and asked for our prescription to take elsewhere, suddenly they stated they don't provide prescriptions unless we pay upfront (over $300) or wait until they received final payment from insurance (which can take weeks or more). We had provided all insurance information (TRICARE) and the exam would be fully covered; we even offered to call our insurance and let them confirm our benefits on the spot. The answer remained "no" in regards to releasing our prescription, but they were more than happy to sell us their own eyewear at inflated prices, and yet still wait on insurance payment (proving upfront payment is not normally required unless you want your prescription). This is a violation of the Federal Trade Commission's Eyeglass Rule and when I called them the next business day to inform them that they are in violation of federal law, I was simply told that is policy and to "have a nice day!" When I asked to speak to the office manager, I was told she wouldn't be around for a couple of weeks and there is nobody else to talk to. Essentially--tough luck. I sent an email with my complaint and no response was ever received. So we had to remain without glasses, with no prescription or means to obtain new glasses, because we did not want to buy from them. Essentially, they hold your prescription hostage until you cough up the money. Even once they did FINALLY fax our prescription to an eyeglass provider quite a while later, the prescription was far too strong for both my wife and I, resulting in a totally useless prescription. I suspect Dr. Rummel writes purposely exaggerated prescriptions to get you to buy his eyeglasses, as opposed to being honest and telling you perhaps you may not need glasses right away. Perhaps this is just for TRICARE customers since Dr. Rummel knows the military community is easy prey--afterall, with TRICARE covering only one eye exam every two years, and military members moving frequently, he can scam and take their money and most likely never see them again or have to worry about earning their repeat business. Total predator and con-artist of an optometrist. Awful experience from start to finish. read more

Dr. Lundquist is an excellent doctor who was recommended to me by one of the best eye specialists in San Diego. He patiently answered all of my questions during the eye exam and is quite knowledgeable. I have seen him twice and he was very helpful both times. The staff are friendly, as well. I didn't purchase my prescriptive glasses on site; however, as they were on the higher end of the market and my insurance just didn't cover enough of the cost. read more

Went in for an appointment/eye exam today and the optometrist that saw me came in to see me and said I appeared sick and he needed to make the visit quick because he didn't want to risk getting a cold because he was going on vacation lol he made a half assed prescription for me because the visit was so short and the whole time his arms were in front of the lens and I couldn't see any letters. He seemed more worried about his vacation than his service, not coming back because the prescription he gave me isn't correct. This is probably why his office is so low key, due to not being able to afford a better facility and poor salary he has lmao. Acted like he had so many appointments in the future but there was no one in his facility lol. Low budget place wouldn't recommend, Wal-Mart has better service. I have been a patient of this office for over 6 years and I will say that these guys have helped me out with quite a number of things. They did not charge me to replace a nosepad on my old glasses. Another time I was wearing an old pair of contacts and they gave me a pair of contacts while I waited one week for my boxes to come in. Needless to say, Ive gone to COSTCO and LensCrafters and they have said "you have to wait for your boxes" and "NO, we cant give you a pair in the meantime." SO I will say that I will continue to recommend this office to others. After reading some of these comments, the bad ones have to deal with people not familiarizing themselves with their OWN insurance and costs. As a retired Insurance biller, I will say that some people try to get things for free and when they dont succeed, they have to YELP! Why not call before you go to ANY OFFICE? read more
