Told them that I wanted a full diagnostic on the number of nagging issues and was interested in getting this car back in shape. They took a couple of days, went over it fully, researched options for me, and came back with a prioritized list of items to address. Having worked with them before, they covered a few of the services under warranty to save me a few bucks. I decided to get most of the recommended work done. Expecting they would need it for a week, they said give us 3 days, it was done in just over 2. Test drove it with Mike in the passenger seat to make sure it was all up to snuff. My experiences with North County Auto Service started in 1996 when I was an insurance auto appraiser. When I worked with a shop it was based on businesses who have outstanding customer service, integrity, and the ability to trust that the shop can get the job done right without a customer having problems or a "come-back". In 2003, I bought a Honda Van which had to go to dealer for warranty service. I got used to my service advisor so just stayed with them up until recently. My Honda is 14 years old, has a 150k, and still a great vehicle. But in a dealer's situation, they don't fix, they only replace. I had no symptoms or problems with it. I didn't screw the gas cap on like you are supposed to and it will cause the engine light to turn on. When I took it to the dealer to turn the light off, they told me that I needed a transmission. I took it to a reliable, local shop for thorough check out. There was nothing wrong with my transmission. I then realized I needed to change my service shops. I saw on Yelp that North County is still the great business I remembered and had them do a thorough safety check before a long trip that I will be taking soon. What I appreciate most in any repair facility is when they truly listen to you, repeat it back, and give good suggestions for what you need. Rex did all that. I have had experiences where a vehicle will just sit on a lot and you have to call them for status. Not so, with Rex and North County Auto Service. They kept me apprised the whole time my vehicle was there. It was finished when they promised it would be. When I picked up my vehicle, it had been cleaned inside and out. It felt like a new vehicle driving it and I wouldn't want to replace it because it is a great vehicle. But, it will only be a great vehicle if you have the right people maintaining it for you. I trust that North County Auto Service will be the only shop I go to from now on. My wife took her 80's Bronco here, window regulator change (part supplied) remove steering column cowl and fix one wire, a rear axle w seal and fix spongy brakes. They broke the handle of tilting passenger seat, threw it in console, the steering now has a rubbing sound in it, the brakes are so bad she hasn't even drove it since she got it back from them. They charged her several thousand dollars for the work, most of which needs to be re-done properly, but she can't even drive it anywhere to get it fixed. read more

I suggest you bring cash if possible, they often offer a cash discount. Also if you need a tow, call them up first and ask if they can send their favorite tow company. I have taken my car a few times over the last 4 years and they are ok. They had my car for almost two weeks at one point, I spent over $5000 to do major repair to the engine, and it still is not fixed. I am so tired of trying to find an honest mechanic, everyone I go to tells me it's something different and I end up paying a lot of money for things that weren't even necessary. The owner, Mike, is really kind, but he doesn't always follow through with his offers of help. He will schedule to meet with me and then he's not there and there is no way to get ahold of him. I think the worst thing about this business is Rex, who answers the phone. He has been there for years and he is so rude to customers, it's kind of shocking. More often than not, he puts me on hold the second he answers the phone without saying anything, so you aren't even sure you called the right place. When I do get ahold of him he is short with me and often hangs up before I am done asking questions. I try to be polite and remind myself they are busy, but it's really not ok to treat people like this when you are charging them so much money. He seems very irritated that he even has to answer the phone. I am appalled he is still working there after all these years. He clearly hates his job. If they had fixed the issue with my car, I could let the poor customer service slide, but because they can't seem to do that, and the Rex is an angry person, I think I will do business elsewhere. Let me review this shop based on the first phone call... Let me just emphasize how stressful car problems/repairs can be for anyone, let alone the cost of a new transmission. This is my first time with this issue, and I am very well prepared to pay the most reasonable, not cheapest, amount to service my car. I called in for a quote, as would anyone. He simply said, "I need to see it." this I understood, their diagnosis could be different from an other . I asked what time they closed. He went on and on about dropping the truck at a decent time and that I "can't just drop it off at 4pm and have to fix it" he had an unpleasant tone. He didn't give me the chance to say that I would gladly MAKE AN APPOINTMENT that accommodates both our schedules. the "service" over the phone was so disappointing, their business must be doing so well they don't mind losing a potential new customer. 1 star for the person who answered the phone probably having a bad day. read more

First things first. NCAS is great in keeping you informed of their findings and giving you the cost. It is great to have a place to be able to get your vehicle in and out in a timely manner. Brought our vehicle in already expecting the actuator/blender and the oil level sensor would need to be changed, checked & charged the AC and had additional electrical traced. Our bill came to slightly over $840.00. Maybe I should have left the electrical alone as it wasn't affecting the performance of the car and this would have reduced the bill approximately $200 (I believe they charge $120 hr for this service). Other than $$$ spent, I plan on bringing my vehicles here for service. Just wish there were a few more specials - Summer (A/C, Tire & Hose Checks) & Winter (Heater, Wipers, Tires & Hose Checks) - Basically making sure the vehicle is road worthy. read more

I took my car into North County Auto Service for the first time about a month ago for an oil change. Following the oil change, I noticed my gas mileage had decreased substantially. I ended up discovering they had overfilled the oil, which was causing the decrease in gas mileage. You may be wondering why you see five stars for my review... ...the way Mike Perkins (the owner) responded when I contacted them to report the issue has been amazing. He apologized profusely, stated that my time is valuable, and then said he'd do another full oil and filter change plus buy me a tank of gas to rectify the situation. In speaking with Mike, it was obvious he runs an incredible business with steps in place to prevent these issues 99.99% of the time. Oddly enough, this issue has made me more confident in deciding to use North County Auto Service from now on. Mike seems to be a man of integrity who runs a wonderful business. read more

If I could give TEN stars, I totally would give them TWENTY!!! Mike (the owner) and his dad Sandy provided the BEST customer service one could ever ask for from an auto repair shop. North County Auto Repair is LEGIT!!! My 2004 Nissan Xterra had been out of commission for about 2-3 months. It took me so long to get my car fix because the scmuck at EconoLube (my biggest mistake) quoted me $900+ for repairs on my transmission, amongst other things he was throwing at me. Now keep in mind, im a typical girl who doesn't know much about cars or maintains her vehicle. So after given that quote, I had to put off fixing my car and drove it down to the ground...that's when my car went kapoots! I perused through Yelp for an auto shop that had great reviews, and stumbled upon North County's 5-star rating. I called up the shop and Mike answered. I explained to him my car problem and he took my car in that morning (via tow truck). He gave me options of either riding with the tow guy, or having the tow guy drop off my car and he'd call me to confirm its arrival and inspection. I opted to just send the tow guy with my car. Later in the day, Mike calls me to follow up and he shares with me the concern. I'm thinking about that $900 quote from Econo Lube, but when Mike explains the issue were my belts and quoted me $500 plus, I was shocked and surprised that I had Mike jump right into the repairs....WHAT A RELIEF!!! My car was ready the next day! Not only did they fix my problem, but they also replaced my wipers (which were already very bad) and washed my car! They replaced the fluids and checked everything else in between. I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH THEIR SERVICE!! I plan to continue business with them, and so should you!!! From the time I dropped off the car to when we picked it up in the afternoon I was pleased with the customer service, the provision of information and the level of detail in which they inspected the vehicle.
