They are thorough in assessing and informing if they see something they believe you should consider but only if they believe it is important for your cars safe and efficient operation-- not because they see an opportunity to make an additional sale. She gave me a fair quote and assured me that the job was going to take less than 2 days. Others shop estimated "at least 2 days" of repairs. That means large labor cost. I dropped off the car on Tuesday before the shop closed and the car was ready by Thursday morning. This was my first time with this shop and it was positive experience. I stopped at A1 Auto after my mechanic said they were too busy to take me that day. A1 got me in ASAP ... then get this -- they actually escorted me into the shop and showed me the issue with my car. Seriously? Am I on Hidden Camera? It turned out to be a problem stemming from a recall the dealer fixed a month prior. They charged me a small diagnostic fee, and my car is now at the dealer being fixed FOR FREE. They could have just fixed it and changed me, and I'd have never been the wiser. DONE! Just had the same experience as Elena in her review. Came to drop off my friend and thought I'd see if I should take my cars to this shop based on his recommendation. Guess I shouldn't have arrived in my old truck that I use for yard work around my house. The lady running the office must have seen it and decided I wasn't worth her business. I asked if they work by appointment only and she said yes. Her initial response was curt but not overtly rude and I figured that it was a good sign that they are busy. So I asked if I could get an appointment. She was hilarious...she gave me the side eye and asked the year of my truck. Once I told her the year, she switched to her condescending voice, said they don't work on cars that old, and walked away to run my friend's payment. I'm okay with the fact that they don't want to work on old cars but no need to be rude about it. I have two other nicer and newer cars at home that also need work from time to time but I guess she couldn't see those. Maybe she was just having a bad day, we all have those from time to time. I felt like I was in an episode of Seinfeld with the Soup guy. Anyway, based on their generally good reviews, she's probably nice if you come in with a newer car so hopefully you won't have the same experience. The end. read more

I gave the auto shop across the street a chance... It's literally across the street from me. I see it everyday as I leave for work, maybe 100 feet away. I needed my brakes done STAT - and I was able to drop off my car and walk the 12 seconds home. Two hours later, my car was ready to go. It was almost too convenient. It's definitely a mom & pop shop. Upon walking into the office w/ sliding glass doors, family pictures line the back shelves. Black and white local Carlsbad & San Diego photographs hang on the back walls. This place is family owned, and you can tell: the staff here are genuine & knowledgeable, and I have never felt taken advantage of. Plus, they have easy discounts: I have their license plate holder, and I get a discount on all oil changes. When I went in for the first time with a nail in my tire, they patched it for free! Let me start by saying that I am really not a Yelper and I have never written a negative yelp review in my life but I thought the community should know this information that was quite upsetting to my family. We have been going to this shop for over 20 years and we have always loved and trusted them to do professional quality work. The shop used to be owned by this really nice man named Jimmy and now it has a new owner the past few years but still has been a fairly good experience until now. I have always told anyone looking for a shop to go here and recently referred my boyfriend there to fix a problem on his 98 Corolla. It's a really old car and the body is in awful shape but it still runs fine with only 140k miles on, so she still has some good life in her. After going out of our way to have the car towed to the shop to be fixed, the new owner Kevin decided call my bf to belittle and patronize him about his shitty car and basically tell him the car is too ugly to be worthy of their business. He asked if we're sure we even would want them to work on it and claimed they only work on high end cars. Again the car is really low on miles for its age and it was most likely going to be a pretty minor repair so it's not like it wasn't gonna be worth at least looking at. Also the family cars we have been taking there over 20 years have never been high end so I'm not sure where that bs is coming from. They have always been so nice to me I was shocked and disgusted that they would treat someone I recommend to them this way. We were so offended we immediately had the car towed out of there. If you don't want our business we can find someone much more appreciative and kind to do the job. I just find it extremely unprofessional and unkind to belittle people and judge them about the appearance of their vehicle. Totally unnecessary. If they didn't want to work on it they could've just said hey we're way too busy for this job and recommend a different shop instead of being so rude and trying to make people feel bad. Especially given the fact that he was recommended by such a loyal customer you would think they would make an exception and just shut up and do the job. I have no interest in giving my business to a place that treats people in such an unkind and patronizing way, so my family and I will sadly no longer be giving them our valuable and loyal business. This review is definitely about customer service and not the quality of work. I know they do a good job but it doesn't mean much if you treat people like crap and don't appreciate your loyal customers. I have an idea A1, how about you stick to your job, fix peoples cars, take their money and keep your unwanted opinions to yourself. I went here for the first time after being referred by a friend of mine. It's so nice to know that I've found an honest auto shop...as a young woman, you never know if people are going to try to tell you that you need unnecessary things done, but that definitely didn't happen here. It's a family-run shop & the people are super friendly. I got my starter fixed for a measly $125 (it was installed incorrectly, so they had to take it out & re-install it) & they rotated my tires for free, since I was a new customer & told him that I also needed that to be done. He checked the fluids in my car & did an inspection since I have a road trip coming up & was happy to hear that he wasn't going to tell me that I need to have 101 things done to make my car safe for the ride. The whole thing only took about 2 hours or so. I'm definitely going to recommend them to everybody that I know. read more
